"On the corner of Place de la Cathédrale, the four-story Maison Kammerzell could rely purely on its history (some of which dates back to 1427), but its traditional fare, reasonably priced menus, and reliable service are equally as impressive as its backstory. It’s tempting to dine on the terrace, but the lunch and dinner menus offered inside are much more extensive, plus you’ll get to marvel at the Léo Schnug Room, with vaulted ceilings, arched windows, and allegorical frescoes from 1904, or the Cathedral Side Room, with a series of stained glass windows and wood paintings that detail Germanic mythology. While the menu features such delicacies as foie gras and escargots, it’s the choucroute (sauerkraut) that really stands out at this local institution. In fact, the iconic Choucroute aux Trois Poissons dish, dreamed up by Guy Pierre Baumann in 1970, is known worldwide."

Beautiful historic spot for a meal in Strasbourg. You can feel the history in the dining room, with its beautifully preserved wood interior and walls covered in photos of famous guests. The traditional choucroute was perfectly cooked—we tried both the classic version and the house‑special fish choucroute, which was originally created here. The service was friendly and efficient, but you definitely need to book ahead. A great place to taste authentic Alsace cuisine in a truly historic setting.

Visited on a Monday for dinner around 6pm and it was not too busy. We were seated right away for a table of 4 on the 2nd floor. The sauerkraut and three fish was absolutely delicious. We saw many reviews highlighting this dish specifically and ended up ordering 3 for our table. I don't generally like sauerkraut, but this was a bit more mild than normal and paired very well with the fish and sauce. Service was also very good and the white wine our waiter recommended to us really complimented the meal.

A classic and historic dining experience of traditional Alsatian dishes. Arrived around 6pm and we were seated immediately on the second floor. The sauerkraut with three fish is excellent. The wine recommendation was also wonderful. We were able to eat and chat over good food without feeling rushed.

Very historic and beautiful restaurant. Food is wholesome! Atmosphere is warm and elegant. Tables can be more spaced out more though. Loved seeing the picturew of rhe famous people who visited and overall feel and little details on the plates - even on the chocolate.

What an wonderful dinning experience in Strasbourg. I went to visit Alsace because my great grandma is from there and it was a great experience. I had the 8 meat Choucroute and it was a delight. The coleslaw was very good. You can see all the German influence in this city. Quite historic as well, and the dish shows it. Great service, very friendly staff. Had a great time

It is a beautiful place located right next to the famous chapel. It is a bit upscale, but worth it because the food is really nice. I also noticed that many famous people have visited, as their photos were hanging along the sides of the staircase.

The place is absolutely beautiful inside, with charming little hidden corners to sit and relax. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced for the quality and presentation. The chicken dish was fantastic — tender and full of flavor, served with an incredible wine sauce and perfectly cooked spätzle. It all came together beautifully. I can definitely recommend this restaurant for a celebration dinner or any special occasion!

We came here to try the foie gras and the sauerkraut… No way to park in this area as it is a huge Christmas place with a lot of pedestrians and tourists so we got our ca in a garage and walked there. The place is fancy, I noted that they have a lot of celebrity photos all over the wall. The staff is great and super friendly, also very elegant and I can notice how elevated the service is here. At first…. Then it just felt snobby. We got some drinks as well came in and it was five in the afternoon and they only serve food at six. So we stayed in and waited till we could order food. I wish that was more clear since we had no idea and nothing anywhere in the food said they don’t serve food till that time. So we kind of waited one hour that we could have delayed the dinner or went elsewhere. We were asked to pa out bill for the drinks after they were served under the guise that they are changing to dinner shift. I told the waitress that I wanted to order another drink. She said she would come back… she never did… I kept seeing a lot of drinks coming out so assuming that they didn’t stop service she forgot. We felt like we were very neglected. We told our waitress we wanted to order food. Once it was quarter to six, we saw a few other tables ordering food and our waitress didn’t come back to give us a menu… A brand new table came in and the first thing they got was a basket of break and full dinner set up… yet we were waiting to order another drink round of coffee and food for over 15 minutes…. She finally came to get the order and was really hurrying again she pulled a bill for us to pay… even after I told her I wanted the dinner menu and people around us were getting breads and dinner table set up… Once our second drink order came in I asked the runner why we kept getting bills…. Instead of a dinner menu. He told us that for drinks only we have to pay upon drink service…. BUT WE WANTED TO DINE. Finally at 17:50 we get the menu. And takes another ten plus minutes for someone to come get our order…I am not sure if this is a cultural thing that we need to wave the wait staff but again it was frustrating to see the amount of time and how much this dragged. Here is the order and my thoughts to *Escargots- the escargot was as expected for the dish. They do have table bread basket so I dipped those on the melted butter after eating the snail. *Foie gras- this was pretty delicious. The fig jelly really gave a special touch to bring the appetizer together. The annoying part was that we didn’t have any appetizer plates rest the bread while we had the appetizers and that was pretty annoying. They also didn’t clear the table from used and empty trash or cups that were done being used. Also our food took forever! A whole hour from ordering and the main dishes were not on the table. The main dishes took so long to come out that we had o ask for the an by the time they came we were already so full. The main dishes took was no longer enjoyable. *choucroute au confit- this dish left me with miser feelings but very decidedly I did not quite love it. The duck was pretty tasty, but looked very unappealing. The bacon looked on and tasted as expected, the sauerkraut was very very sour, almost too tangy, and the potatoes were ok…. Overall felt and looked like all was boiled in water, at the same time… and the vinagre like smell of the sauerkraut made me sick. Maybe is because I was already full and very annoyed with all the service but that’s how I felt. Though I must say the dinner staff and manager were much better and were more keen to notice things, the manager for the dinner shift is very observing and on point. If he was our manager from the start I’m assuming things would probably have been different. I will not come back.

Yelp
This is an old timey place filled with old timey people. We went on a Monday and were the youngest people in the room by about 30 years which added to the ambiance. The place is like a cave, with paintings of battles and old timey stuff all around. The food was traditional and good. We had a plate of fish with sauerkraut that was good but maybe a bit salty. The paté was awesome (if you like paté) and the escargot was delicious. Desert was good but skippable. Prices were fair and they seem to have good deals. All in all, this place is an experience worth having! Go and get your old timey self some good food!

Yelp
Come here for the vibes of an antique historical building with views of the cathedral, but the food we ordered was just ok. We had the vegetarian lasagna and baeckeoffe and were not impressed. Service was good. The ambience does leave a great impression though as the restaurant is beautiful!

Yelp
We had breakfast here in the outdoor seating area twice on our recent trip. Both times I had the Petit Déjeuner Français: a large piece of baguette, sliced in halves, butter, jam, a croissant and hot chocolate. Lots of carbs, but a good start to my day. On the second visit, my wife and I split a small omelet. Service was ok (sometimes hard to get hold of), but the ambiance of sitting across from the cathedral was remarkable.

Yelp
Maison Kammerzell. A more descriptive name for this restaurant would be Maison Cancer Du Poumon (House of Lung Cancer). This place has surely mastered the art of mediocre food and complete disregard for their patrons' health. As soon as you approach (not even enter) this establishment, you are greeted by a fragrant cloud of cigarette smoke. "No problem. I can just sit inside!" you think? No dice. They refuse to sit you inside, treating your concerns with a delightful blend of indifference and negligence. Now, if you're going to increase my chance of lung cancer by 20-30%, at least make the food worth it. But nope, the food was mediocre at best. The steak was bland and overcooked. The only redeeming factor was the opportunity to try Béarnaise sauce, which I've never had before. But since I have nothing to compare it to, I can only conclude, from the pattern of the other food, that this sauce wasn't spectacular either. Dear reader, if you're seeking an exquisite dining experience that involves lackluster food, a side of carcinogens, and a staff that excels at disappointment, Maison Cancer Du Poumon is the place for you.

Yelp
This is a must visit restaurant in Strasbourg! But you probably have to book your table weeks in advance - from the pictures on the wall it appears that whoever is anybody in France has dined here! The food is representative of Strasbourg geographical closeness to Germany so choucroute Strasbourgeois is the must to order if it's your first visit - every o else is equally excellent

Yelp
Got recommended by a tour guide to come here and it's absolutely beautiful from the outside but we got here at 11 am and were the first people in here - however I believe there was racial prejudice as the place filled up and every single other table got their food except ours, we finally got our meal at 1:15 pm - after all the tables around us got their meals. Also, they were not nice at all to our table (full of Asians). So if you're Asian, maybe don't come here. If you're white - I'm sure they'll treat you great

Yelp
This place was incredible. I had the three fish plate. It was to die for. I ordered a bottle of white and ref wine as well as the green pea gazpacho. The last fish was little salty for my pallet but the experience was well worth it. I recommend this place for anyone. Oh and the desserts ... speechless. Try the brandy ice cream.

Yelp
When we first arrived, we had a little bump in that they could not find our reservation even though we had an email confirmation. That aside, they were kind enough to offer us a table. The food service was very polite, and the food itself was brought out quickly. We tried the foie gras, and while I have nothing to compare it too, it was a popular hit among the family. I had the vegetarian dish they offered on the Christmas menu, and while it was very good with a wonderfully poached egg, the portion was a bit small compared to the other dishes at the table. On another note, the desserts that we ordered on a whim were beautifully presented and were quite delicious.

Yelp
Historical restaurant with a small dining area and requires advance reservation or a bit of luck during the winter period. Pleasant ambiance and unique character to the whole place. You're sitting right in the shadow of the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral. It was quite entertaining to see people peeking through the glass windows from the outside. The portion sizes were definitely larger than your average French dining experience. However, the service was the poor, slow, inattentive, burdensome, and sub-par for such a reputable restaurant.

Yelp
I'm only giving this place two stars because of the history- being one of the oldest establishments in Strasbourg. Everything about this restaurant was a disappointment to say the least. I made reservations a few weeks ahead of my trip and received email confirmation. However upon arrival they had difficulty finding it. We came for the Christmas Eve prefix which was listed as €65 pp on the website. The menu listed it as €78 pp. The wait staff stated that it was last years menu. Seemed like a bait and switch to me! Moving on to the food. We had the salmon starter as well as the duck foe gras. Both horribly average. For entree we had the pork sausage and three fish sauerkraut that so many reviews mention. Both were very disappointing. The pork sausage was honestly better at the Christmas Market outside and 1/3 of the price. The fish was BAD. No flavor. Very oily. Way too much sauerkraut. The service was impeccably awful. From limited English menus to unhelpful waitstaff and having to ask for water refills. I would've been better served serving myself! Overall would NOT recommend this place. Furthermore I'd recommend coming only to say you've been and leaving before ordering. Easily one of the worst dinning experiences I've ever had!

Yelp
This restaurant is overrated. The location and setup is great since is a historic building. Service wasn't good . The server rushed us to order our food and everything we asked he was just rushing to answer and we did not get what we wanted . When we ordered he keep saying yes yes but the food was completely different. Both of the food we ordered didn't taste good maybe we eat a small portion of it. Very disappointed since we were hopping to have something real good on our first night in town. Do not recommend this restaurant and won't go there again.

Yelp
The service people were rushing around but. It for us, it took 30 minutes to get to place an order and then another hour to get the food. My friends steak was way over cooked, my duck was tough. My friend said she was allergic to mushrooms so her appetizer was ok but the main dish was covered with mushrooms. So then it took another 45 minutes to get the chicken without mushrooms. And then when we complained they defended themselves instead of saying they were sorry, do not go here if you want good food, good service or attentive wait staff. The walls of they place are nice to look at though.

Yelp
From the beginning "eye roll" from the hostess to the mediocre service to the bland meal everything was a disappointment. I am generally a lenient reviewer but the meal was just bad. The salmon with sauerkraut was tasteless. The wild boar with chestnuts was dry. The bread was hard and the bar snacks on the table didn't say a lot for an overpriced meal. Save your money and eat anywhere else. Yes, I was that disappointed.

Yelp
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. I am giving this place one star because I have to give it a star in order for my review to be posted. I'd never have gone there as it looked liked a total tourist trap. But, my son's prof at the university recommended that the students go. So, off we went. Interestingly, the clientele is largely French and/or French speaking. Why!?!? The food was nothing short of awful. I can't think of the last meal I had that was this dreadful, if ever, in any country. And, certainly never in France. The desserts. Yuck. Shame on us; what were we thinking to even order dessert! What makes the place truly despicable and lacking in integrity is that the waitstaff and the maitre ds (yes, one on each floor; 3 floors in all, the place is a factory of slop) are surly, and just downright awful. Years ago there was an old school dairy restaurant on the uws in Manhattan, NY will surly waiters. At least the food was good. Not my first choice of food, but definitely good of its kind. These folks have no business being ill humored and so overtly hating their jobs -- the food can't make up for them, and the cost is way too high. Speaking of, the maitre d basically ripped my credit card out of my hand at the end of the meal -- I was reviewing the bill and didn't see him approach, when he just pulled the card from my hand. I wish I could say that the place is only a tourist trap, but the diners were predominantly French speaking, as am I. I don't know what more to say. Oh yeah, they should be embarrassed. Go anywhere but here. Actually, at a 2 min walk in the Xmas market, there is an amazing Lebanese food stand, with the most amazing babganoush ever. Head there!

Yelp
Over all the experience was a solid ok. I think people go to experience the history of the old building. The service was great super friendly but the food was nothing to write home about. We sat outside because it was a beautiful evening. I wish we had sat inside to experience the history of the place from 1427. I would have only given 3 stars but the service made up for the just ok food.

Yelp
This is a gem in Strasbourg. It is also in an excellent location. The food was exceptional and the staff was great. I will recommend this to friends and family.

Yelp
The Three fish Sauerkraut is one of the best meals I've had. A complete discovery as I've only ever had regular meat Sauerkraut. The place is beautiful, ideally located and the waiter was adorable.

Yelp
The interior of this restaurant is beautfiul, it's meat heavy and if that's what you want than you can have all sorts of varieties here. Big on butter. It was good -- but I wasn't knocked out of my seat.

Yelp
Very good restaurant. You can eat different meal. Try Sauerkraut with fish it's excellent

Quiana S.

Yelp
I wasn't blown away by the meal but it was good. I had to send back and over cooked filet but it was fixed. Service was good and prices reasonable. Foie gras was excellent as well as the beef tartare. The portions were huge if you like that sort of thing.

Kim K.

Yelp
Our food was ok but neighbouring table were complaining loudly. But we got the worst service I have ever experienced in a French restaurant which spoiled the experience quite a lot. It was very obvious that we were placed in the tourist trap on first floor where the unexperience staff could serve the stupid tourists. Prices fair compared to the quality of the food. Been there, got that t-shirt.

Robert G.

Yelp
Wonderful place. Exceptional food at decent prices. Several smaller rooms for eating which keeps the noise level down. Service was also good. Conveniently located next to the big Cathedral. Amazing interior... spend some time looking at the wood work!
