"This blink-and-you-miss-it French takeout window in Melrose Hill is a very unassuming place to grab a sandwich, but if you’re craving straightforward, high-quality fillings on baguettes that are baked in-house each morning, you won't regret lunch at Maison Matho. Our favorites include the jambon-beurre, made with curls of shaved ham, creamy yellow butter, and crunchy cornichons, and the spaghetti squash, which comes cooked in a fragrant French-style curry blend and paired with pickled pomegranate, celery, and hazelnuts." - brant cox, sylvio martins, cathy park
"Bresaola "I grew up eating bresaola, which does not get the love that it deserves. It has such a distinct flavor. The closest thing to it is prosciutto, but [bresaola] has no fat on it. For a sandwich spot to put something on their menu with such a [hard-to-find] ingredient really shines a light on the quality of it, and that they believe that people are gonna order it because people are gonna start talking about it. I think it works really well because of that cold cut with the baguette they use. They don't overdo it with ingredients. You can really just taste the bresaola." - brennan carley
"Maison Matho is a neighborhood sandwich shop and French cafe in Melrose Hill. Start with one of the best croissants in town, before trying one of the baguette sandwiches. The only downside is that the restaurant is takeout only, so diners will have to find somewhere else to dig into their jambon beurre." - Rebecca Roland
" Valentine’s Day is on a weeknight this year, so you might be considering a lunch move. Something quick, casual, but still worthy of bragging to your coworkers about afterward. Meet Maison Matho, a French walk-up window in East Hollywood making simple, well-executed sandwiches on warm baguettes. From the prosciutto and cornichon to the decadent curried spaghetti squash, it’s the quality ingredients and thoughtful balance of flavors that make the sandwiches here sing. Don’t forget to order a box of flaky almond croissants or brioche apple buns for later. " - nikko duren
"Noted for a well-liked jambon beurre that pleased the reviewer." - Bettina Makalintal
