"Next up: Maison G.H. Mumm, where a group tour descended into the earthy-scented caves to learn about the region, Champagne making, and of course, tasting some (several) glasses on the patio before returning to the car, which certainly felt more like a privately booked transfer (my bags were safe inside) than your standard Uber." - Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner

I chose the perfect time to visit, as it was 30 degrees outside and pleasantly cool in the cellars. The tour was very interesting, the guide was mainly interesting and described well all the issues of the champagne production process. She was happy to answer all questions. What surprised me was that the tour took place amongst the actual maturing champagne bottles. At the end there was a tasting and also a short description of how champagne should taste.

Google
This was an exceptional experience. The tour took us down the cellars and explained their process. The tasting was even better as I was shown what to look for in a worthy champagne. Our guide was really good in explanations. She pointed out odd things to look for when gently sipping the champagne. We enjoyed the experience.

Google
Cool visit of the cellars! We enjoyed the detailed explanation of the guide and tour around the cellar. Tour ends with a trip down memory lane (& future) & tasting. Recommended to book in advance.

Google
It was really impressive experience. The tour guide explained details in English and I learned overall historical change method how to produce champagne. I love champagne but I never tried to drink Mumm before. This is first time to drink RSVP and I strongly recommend you to visit Mumm to know champagne and enjoy tasting.

Excellent tour & tasting! Ava, our tour guide, was friendly & knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

Google
Maison Mumm is one the biggest in the champagne world. Their visit will give you an insigne of how champagne making has evolved in the length of more of a century and how that apply to Mumm philosophy. The underground structure typical of the champagne regions is here less impressive than by other houses. The guide compensates with a more in depth explanation. Tasting is in line with the other houses, basically is drinking what you ordered inside or outside in the main court. Overall is less impressive than other but offered at a lower price point.

Google
Very interesting tour , had a little trouble understanding the the tour guide with the acoustics of the cellars and the accent

Yelp
We had a food and wine pairinng at the Restaraunnt since we arrove a lilltle late in the day to book a tour. The food was fantastic as were the Champagnes. The service was friendly, efficient, and attentive. A gem.

Yelp
$70 for the tour was way over priced & over rated , definitely not worth it And only 1 pour of the vintage champagne

Yelp
A great experience learning about the key role that Mumm has played in the development of champagne over the last couple centuries. I highly recommend the tour, which takes you through the caves and goes into depth of the production process. I also recommend that you spend the little extra for the version of the tour that includes a double tasting at the end. Otherwise, you get to taste just one of their champagnes.

Yelp
Tour was nice and the scale of their cellar is impressive. Tour guide was welcoming and knowledgeable. Their champagne is fantastic and the tour with two tastings is worth while. I want to rate the whole thing higher but on balance it felt a little austere though I cannot compare it to any other champagne tour.

Yelp
Maison Mumm was an excellent champagne cave visit. Out of the several caves we visited I thought Mumm was one of the best especially regarding the educational experience of champagne making. Our guide was very friendly and provided detailed information about each stages of the champagne making process throughout the tour. The visit lasted over an hour for the regular "Mumm experience" at 23€. The guide took the time to explain all the variety of grapes used from the surrounding region to make champagne. She also went over all the steps from Fermentation, removal of sedimentation, bottling and more. The visits usually have groups of 10-12 individuals at a time. At the end of the visit you get to taste a glass of the cordon rouge champagne (their most popular champagne.) That day we were also offered a complimentary extra glass of rosé champagne for tasting! It was a great experience, we definitely recommend maison Mumm as one of the must visit champagne House in the region if you have the chance to go!

Yelp
Amazing experience and it makes you appreciate the delicious champagne even more. This place is of industrial size. They were not allowed to tell us how much champagne they produce per year, however based on the size of facility I would say a very large number of bottles. Some special batches are handled and processed by hand, most by computers and automated equipment. If you have an opportunity to go to the Champagne region of France, I am highly recommending this place.

Yelp
We stopped by this place during a two night stay in Reims (there for a women's World Cup match). The day started out awful. It was pouring rain and Reims is devoid of Uber/Lyft so we had to walk around 15-20 minutes in the downpour. (Poor planning on our part and the weather gods). We arrived 10 minutes late because we got lost and there are two "locations" across the street from each other. When we got there, the people were so kind and thoughtful. The next English tour was not for another 1.5 hours. One of the guides, Sophie, looked at her watch and said that she would do the tour for us. We accidentally ended up on a private tour! The cellars were amazing and vast! Sophie had an amazing command of the history of the house and of how champagne is made (some of it blowing my mind). At the end we got a champagne tasting and walked away with two bottles (which we purchased) to bring back to the US. Advice: bring a light sweater because the cellars can get cold.

Yelp
The reception area of this place is just a gem and credit to the huge conglomerate that owns Mumm for not just leaving it "as is" to be an institution, but also for having a great tasting area with friendly and helpful staff. I got an impromptu lesson on the proper way to uncork a champagne bottle (hint: it's not letting the cork fly). There's also a good deal for a gift in the gift shop: a bottle their Cordon Rouge with two glasses included for 30€. Deal, definitely. Book ahead, if possible.

Yelp
This was the highlight of our champagne tasting in Reims. Mumm is located within walking distance of the train station, and it is required to book in advance for your tour in the language you prefer. I had booked in advance on their website, and within a very short time received a reply, with very helpful information attached describing the tour in more detail. Once I confirmed a time and date, and requested information on how to locate Mumm, they immediately sent me a PDF file with a map and additional information. The customer service was beyond what I had expected, and very informative. Upon entering the Mumm establishment, you feel as if you are entering the site of a working winery. You enter the reception area, and are warmly greeted, pay for your tasting selection, and wait on some comfy chairs for the tour to begin. All the tours are 45 minutes and the price determines which tasting you want to take with your tour. We choose the 28Euro option for two glasses to taste of their Grand Cru, great deal concerning the price per bottle of these two options. The tour starts out in a room watching a 5 minute video highlighting the history, and overview of the champagne process at Mumm. Very informative and great to have some visuals. The tour guide was extremely friendly and took our group on a tour of the Mumm chalk tunnels. This tour vs. Pommery felt more intimate, more personal, and they provided great visual displays along the way. You could tell the tour guide was very passionate and knew her stuff. At the end of the tour is a very interesting museum of machines used to make champagne at Mumm from it's early years. At the end of the tour, you are taken to a special tasting room with some comfortable stools to sit on in a elegant intimate setting. We had the chance to talk more with our tour guide about what we were tasting as well, which was a bonus. The champagne was incredible. Overall had a fantastic experience, and would definitely return in future visits.

Yelp
A long, long over-do review. Mumm, not to be mistaken with America's Mumm Napas a large scale winery and tasting room in Reims. Little did I know, how much more I would appreciate champagne after a trip to a place such as this. There are no flights or tastings, you must do the tour. Tours are about an hour long with a predetermined amount of tastings at the end. Our tour was in English, (thankfully) but our guide had a thick accent and was extremely hard to understand. Add in the echos of caves and you have a clusterfuck of frenglish with repeated syllables. Despite the language barrier, there were plenty of cool things to see and tons of history to learn. We even got to see the stash of vintages dating back over 100 years, nice. They keep them to reference and maintain their authenticity thought the years. They also explained and showed us how they hand turned the bottles, etc. At the end of cellar there is a long corridor of machines in there used the yester years. Finally, at the end of the tour you go to a small bar and get your tastings in a slightly more intimate area. I think I got to taste three champagnes, with the addition of the grand cru. I'd say most of them were above average. I brought home an excellent bottle of Rose that's still begging to be consumed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Note: Champagne houses are elitist, and a bit greedy ! They don't operate quite like winerys in the US. I had anticipated on paying homage to Dom and Moet & Chandon while in the Reims area. You know how many I got to hit? Nada ! With the exception of wandering around and taking a few photos outside. They don't do flights of tastings that I'm so familiar with in the states...no.. they push you to do the whole entire tour with X amount of glasses at the end. X increases with the euros paid. Oh and did I mention you need to make reservations for such tours at least two weeks in advance. What?! I started planning which ones to hit on a whim, 4 days prior while in another country.

Yelp
A great winery/cellar tour of the Mumm champagne. The tour guide was extremely informative and patient when customers asked multiple questions (most of which were probably repeats of what she already said). You get a glass of champagne at the end which was very good. Mumm is also the only winery thus far whose champagne is bottled in a bottle that has the Cordon Rouge etched/carved into it, and which is only sold in France so far (this is the 2016 champagne). Overall a wonderful experience. We did not have a reservation and they were very accommodating and allowed us to partake in the tour anyways.

Yelp
I visited Mumm with a tour to the Champagne Region, and would give it 3 1/2 stars. We also visited Moet & Chandon, which in a way is unfair to Mumm since I now have a basis for comparison. While I enjoyed the Mumm tour, particularly the caves and learning the process of making champagne, it's hard for me not to compare it to Moet & Chandon, particularly since both tours were on the same day. Although the Mumms tour was fine and there was nothing bad about it, it simply wasn't as impressive as Moet & Chandon, which seemed to just be on another level and added a bit more class and sophistication to their tour. I would still recommend the Mumm tour to others, but it may pale in comparison if you've already done Moet & Chandon.

Yelp
This tour is an absolute MUST do when in Reims. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgable and made our tour so special. I loved learning about how champagne was made and walking through the caves. After learning the full process, I savor each sip of champagne a little more than I did before. I cannot suggest this tour enough. We even purchased a bottle of champagne that they don't sell in the US! I wrote a full review with photos of our experience here https://goo.gl/N6o7XM We will be back!

Yelp
This was an ok tour. The tour lasted about an hour which is approximately the right amount of time. The guide was rather difficult to understand and not that interesting. The tasting at the end was ok but neither the brut nor the demi-sec bowled us over, although the demi-sec is by far better. We were part of a group tour and it was nice to see the countryside and a small town.

Yelp
AMAZING. We toured a number of these in Reims and Esperney,, This was the best experience.. they cared, the champs were delicious and it was my highlight from this whole region.

Yelp
We booked in here for a tour and tasting and it was an interesting experience. Mumm is one of the larger Chanpagne houses in the region and they run a very commercial style tour and tasting. it cost 20Euro for the Grand Cru tasting tour which gave you 2 glasses of bubbly at the end of the tour (one of the premium Grand Cru and the other a rose). There would have been about 20 people in the tour group and the guide walked us through the chalk 'caves' after a 10 minute promotional video. Although shown through the cellars the tour was rather limited compared to others we went on - and rather pricy considering. However we were with good friends so drinking bubbly out in the sunshine on holidays - can't go to far wrong!

Yelp
Definitely worth every penny! Got a very in-depth and interesting tour about champagne and the process it takes to make it. And, of course, the tasting was excellent!

Yelp
We had a wonderful experience at G.H. Mumm as part of a tour package from Paris. When you pull up, you don't feel like you're in a champagne house, but once you go inside, the experience livens up immediately. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable about this craft of champagne making. The guides take you through a host of extravagant tunnels and passageways where the creators of Mumm champagne have stored and made champagne for years. Our tour started with a video providing a little background - ours was presented in English as most of our tour were Americans. Then our guide led us through the different levels below street level and provided us with excellent commentary on the champagne making process. We got to see tunnels and nooks for the storage and transport of champagne as well as reserve bottles that have been stored there for years. Our tour finished with a champagne glass of our choice between a demi sec and a brut. We were given an opportunity to peruse through the store and purchase our own bottles as well.

Yelp
This was the highlight of our champagne cave experience. I know it is a big, commercial winery but the tour was great and the staff was very friendly. We arrive right at opening and were asked if we had a tour reservation - we didn't. No problem! We sat in their luxurious waiting area until the English tour started a half an hour later. Our tour guide Brian was excellent, very energetic and informed. We toured the caves, which are miraculous, and got an overview on how champagne is made. It was honestly, the most interesting winery tour I've ever been on. There is even a special part of the cave that is only accessible to the cellar master; it holds vintages from the last 100 years, so that they can be consistent with their brand. Imagine getting the keys to that!! And the best part, is the champagne tasting at the end. Something about truly understanding what goes into making the champagne, made us appreciate it that much more. Definitely worth a visit here if you are in France.
