Maison Perumal Hotel & Restaurant – CGH Earth

I stayed at this wonderful heritage bungalow for 2 days and loved the experience right from beginning to end. The staff is very friendly and courteous. We got a good welcome and we were briefed about the activities and the places we should visit in Pondicherry by Bharthi. It is a very homely place. You feel so good there. The food is tasty, and the rooms are decorated nicely. The best thing was the Munias and Sparrows visiting the trees in the courtyard. I would visit this place again.

This is a lovely hotel, situated on the edge of the French quarter of Pondacherry. The building is just like Moroccan Riad with garden in the centre.|Our room was well appointed with large bed. Our tea and coffee making facilities were the best I had seen for some time. We had a cafetière with good strong ground coffee, plus a good choice of loose leaf teas - Top Marks.|The restaurant in the courtyard served tasty breakfasts with a good choice of European delights as well Indian staples. The evening meals were equisite flavoured curries.|This is a small hotel with very helpful staff, who went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience.

We spent 2 weeks travelling from Pondicherry to Kochi staying in 7 hotels all 5 star. Many had attentive staff and amazing food BUT Maison Perumal was far and away the best. I had been disappointed that Palais de Mahe their sister hotel was fully booked but so glad it was. We had cocktails in Palais de Mahe and while the service was excellent, the building beautiful and it has a pool Maison Perumal was something else.||Maison Perumal feels and is run like a household, where you are family member who has come after a long time to be welcomed back. It is an oasis of calm with a beautiful courtyard. The food was outstanding, the service impeccable and we felt at home. We loved every minute of our 3 days stay. The romantic dinner on the terrace was a highlight of the trip. ||I would strongly recommend anyone coming to Pondicherry to stay here. You will not be disappointed.

What a fascinating hotel..in an equally fascinating city. The beautifully restored historic Tamil house is well situated near all the sights and the sea. The restaurant is in a courtyard and the food is interesting and served with a warm welcome. The staff could not do more to make any stay a delight.

Reviewing the courtyard restaurant. Had a wonderful experience, the ambience is extraordinary, food is heavenly, and service is exceptional. The house itself is charming, felt at home and happy. This is now our go to place for delicious, homely Tamil food.

Very scenic & cozy hotel. Wonderful management & staff. Nice room & dining rooms. In the heart of town. The manager showed us a good route to walk to the French Quarter, which was not too far away. Good service & food. I asked for masala tea tea at breakfast & they made it

The hotel is a certified heritage property with attention to every detail. To convert such a house into a 10 rooms hotel is not an easy task. Here are the highlights:|- Lush green, artistically done hotel with comfortable rooms with all amenities|- Rooms equipped with coffee machine, tea makers, variety of tea leaves, milk, etc|- Clean hotel that is very well maintained|- Excellent service and staff is polite - always ready to help and serve the best|- Manager Elby is always leading from the front and his team is efficient|- Food is also a highlight as breakfast with hot, fresh bakery items, eggs to order etc|- The restaurant is quite popular and worth trying for meal or South Indian dishes||Cycles really helped us move around Pondicherry and explore comfortably. They have valet parking for car. You can use the pool at Palais de Mahe which is a convenient arrangement. ||Overall, worth a stay and multiple visits !!

I can only review the restaurant, where I went for lunch midweek. I arrived very early because I didn't have much time. They were very welcoming and served me a drink while waiting to open. The menu sounded lovely but I couldn't decide on one dish so I chose the non veg thali. Seems the price has increased a lot from reviews below (1200INR). Anyhow it came with fish, prawns, fish curry, chicken curry, dahl, curd, rasam, pickles, poriyal, 2 types of rice, pappads, chapati and some sweet thing. A lot! The grilled fish and fish curry were stand outs, although slightly too salty. Everything else was good but not amazing. Of course the surrounds are very pleasant. Sadly it attracts lots of people coming for a special treat, taking heaps of photos and selfies, chattering loudly etc and it detracts from the serenity. More like a tourist attraction than a fine dining experience. Service is good when quiet, but the waitstaff are quickly diverted once more people arrive and not attentive to any one table. I wasn't even given a water glass for a long time into my meal. I'm glad I tried it, but I wouldn't say it's a not-to-be-missed experience. I'm not too price conscious but I would say it's a little overpriced to be fair. You're definitely paying for the reputation and not so much the food or service.
