We’re a husband-and-wife duo in our 30s who’ve traveled to about 20 different countries, always seeking a balance of comfort, value, and memorable experiences. We provide a bit about ourselves so you know where our expectations come from—what matters to us might not matter as much to a family with kids or a retired couple looking for a more leisurely experience.
For this trip, we stayed in a Grand Lotus room for two nights in February 2025 at a stunning property built around a small pond. Check-in was smooth… eventually. There was an issue with booking through the website, and I somehow ended up being charged twice the actual rate. Fortunately, the owner was incredibly sincere and forthcoming about the mistake, and before I could even start questioning my life choices, it had already been adjusted. As an apology, they offered us a complimentary dinner—which, let’s be honest, is probably the best possible outcome of a booking mishap.
The room itself was spacious and beautiful, with an authentic design and pristine cleanliness. However, a word of caution—if you’re wearing socks, prepare for battle. The floors were shockingly slippery, and I came dangerously close to taking an unplanned acrobatic tumble more than once. Another thoughtful touch? They provide earplugs, which, as we quickly learned, were not just a cute gesture. The hotel is near a temple where monks begin chanting in the early morning, which is a peaceful, cultural experience—unless you were hoping to sleep past sunrise. Additionally, we happened to be there on a weekend night when a wedding took place. For those unfamiliar with weddings in this part of the world, allow me to enlighten you: they come with loud music, heavy bass, and a celebratory energy that does not believe in volume control. The music continued until about 10 PM, which, to be fair, isn’t outrageous, and the hotel explained and apologized in the morning, which is really all you can ask for.
Despite the minor noise disruptions, service was exceptional across the board. The staff were attentive and genuinely warm, and the meals were terrific. We didn’t use the pool, but we certainly didn’t skip out on the food, which was excellent.
Would we stay here again? Absolutely. It’s a luxurious property at a fantastic value, and the overall experience was charming, memorable, and well worth it. Just maybe leave the socks at home and pack a good set of earplugs—because monks and wedding DJs have schedules of their own.
