Maistra Select Island Hotel Katarina

We recently spent a week at the hotel. Getting the boat over to the mainland and back is easy, with reliable timing. And it makes for fabulous views of Rovinj. There's a large range of food at the buffet breakfast, and we found the staff at reception, the lobby bar and housekeeping friendly and polite. The pool looks great but we only used it once as it's unheated and freezing cold. Instead we went in the sea a few times, and there's a great roped off bit by the beach bar for this where it's easy to walk into the water (with water shoes on) and it feels safe. We had a Superior Room. The rooms are where the hotel could really do with spending some money on improvements. We've stayed at some really lovely hotels and were hoping for something a bit more plush than this, for what we paid. The room was pretty basic and old-fashioned. Having said that, it was large and clean with a comfy bed and plenty of storage room. The hotel could also do with a better bar area. The lobby bar isn't a great place to sit, as it's just in the reception foyer. And the beachside bar was only open until 4pm. There are a couple of disused buildings on the island that could be turned into a great bar/restaurant. What we did love was sitting on the sunloungers on the paved rocky areas by the sea. When parts of the island were very windy, there were some lovely sheltered parts to sit and read and listen to the waves and watch the lizards run around and the boats go by. All in all, a very good island and hotel that just needs a bit more investment and TLC to make it great.|

Excellent hotel. We absolutely loved our time at Hotel Katrina. We had to give feedback after the first night and I mentioned lack of kettle. After less than a hour, a member of the housekeeping team bought us a kettle. We were so impressed by the attention to detail. We would both love to visit the hotel again and would certainly look at the chain of hotels when we visit Croatia again. Hopefully 2025. The location was perfect and we woke up each morning to a view of the Old Town. Would highly recommend 👌

I fully understand the need for your guests for peace and silence. What was bothered to me is that you have no live music, music for dancing more often. The quality of the musicians I heard in two weeks of stay is not good enough. Maybe someone could do the piano to make an evening more pleasant. I am not interested in sports activities, but for those who are, the offer could be richer. It seems to me that the guests are left to cope with themselves, maybe sports animators could improve the offer and impression. You have no offering of an excursion. I had to get rid of myself, and I succeed, but I had to drive, find parking, lunch restaurants, buy tickets, I'm on vacation and I want to enjoy it. What I missed was organized excursions to the Postojnska jama, to Brioni, to Pula, Rijeka, Opatija, Motovun, Goli otok ... Breakfast at 7, boat at 8, bus at 8.30 and let's go. There is Venice on offer for a day, and it's a Kompas company offer, not yours. The trip to Venice could include sleeping one night in Venice and visit the Murano island or something else. It is not easy to organize, due to the departure or return by boat, the bus would take away a lot of time and effort. Try in agreement with the Kompas to go and return by ship. It seems simply to interview the guests before arrival and you have an offer based on that. I hope you will appreciate some of the remarks. In any case, save the island, restore and save the hotel, paths, facilities, improve the offer. No glass and concrete, who wants it, there is across the street, on the other side of the bay. We'll see you next year.

We loved our relaxing week here. The whole ambience is relaxed and laidback. Staff all first class too-we had an issue with our room and got moved to another one, no problem. The fact that you’re on the island, and it’s just a 5 minute trip from the town, (ferry regular and dependable) adds to the charm of staying there. It feels like a lovely oasis of calm after the hustle and bustle of the gorgeous but busy town. I was worried about selecting this over one of the other 4 or 5 star hotels, but I am so glad we did. Always places to get plenty space (peace & quiet) to sunbathe, whether on the beach or the grassy shaded areas-pool area busier but still totally fine! Great selection of spots to sit and have a drink and a snack/lunch. Breakfast brilliant. Didn’t try dinner as did not like sound of buffet, and there’s so many gorgeous restaurants in Rovinj. We will be back.

This hotel is ALL about the location! Stepping onto the island with it's trees and stately architecture feels like stepping into an EM Forester novel. The island is a blissful oasis of calm and nature, we loved walking around it, finding little coves to lounge in, checking out the wildlife, and sitting on our balcony just enjoying the view. We were pleasantly surprised by how easy and efficient it was to take the hourly ferry into town anytime we wanted to explore there, or have lunch or dinner (though the on island food is also tasty and prices were not too bad). The guarded parking lot on land was good and the shuttle back and forth to the ferry dock ran often so we never really waited for a thing. The room itself (we booked a suite) was fine. It was clean and reasonably comfortable, but definitely dated and had no feeling of luxury. It's just an old-style bathroom with a plain tub with shower head and a shower curtain, semi hard bed, not particularly comfortable sofa, etc. However, the large covered balcony was the saving grace and where we spent most every waking minute that we were at the room. There is a fridge, which we really appreciated. The pool area was relaxing (it is just one pool area with three pools all together, one just a wading splash pool for little kids). Pool towels are not provided and there is a 5 euro per person fee to use them, which was just annoying. Breakfast buffet was very good with lots of options. Overall, I wish the rooms would be upgraded a bit (especially the bathroom) and that the pool towels were not an upcharge, but the idyllic location overcomes these issues and we are already dreaming of a return visit.

This place is a hidden jewel! The nature, the privacy, views, peace and non crowded beaches that is a real privilege and luxury here. We dont need fancy designed hotels and modern furniture, the real quality is in surrounding and opportunity to have contact with nature, but in a same time have on necessities you need for a comfort vacation. Quick 5 min boat ride and you are in the center of the city, if you want to enjoy walks through the old town, shopping or food. I just hope this hotel will stay in this price range, and I know I will return here many times. It was a beautiful vacation.

We loved everything about this beautiful hotel! The large room, the amazing breakfast and dinners at the buffet - one of the best we’ve ever had! The views to the old city of Rovinj from the island this hotel sits on were wonderful! It was fun taking a taxi boat to the island - they handle loading and unloading your luggage- and the water taxi runs frequently. We never had to wait too long for it to go back and forth to explore Rovinj. The beautiful grounds, walkway around the island, pools snd amenities were great! Would definitely recommend and stay here again. ❤️

The Island is a paradise! Lovely hotel with beautiful surrounding. The staff was really nice. Good selection of food which was very delicious! Older rooms but very clean! I liked the hotel gardens the most. Hopefully will be back in the furure! 💚
