Yelp
This is a visually stunning resort in the Playa Mujeres area.
We came here for spring break. This is a family-friendly hotel that has a kids club, but only 30% of the rooms are for families, and very few families use the kids club. Otherwise, the resort is mostly for adults, and there is loud music playing for most of the waking hours.
We stayed in a one bedroom suite. The suite was a good size, and I liked that it had 1.5 bathrooms. The sofa bed was one of the more comfortable sofa beds I've experienced in a hotel. There was also a Murphy bed in the living room, but the kids preferred to share the sofa bed because the Murphy bed was made up without a blanket. The king bed in the bedroom was way too firm, and the air conditioning did not work as well in the bedroom, so my kids slept better than we did. The suite also had a good sized balcony with a jacuzzi that we enjoyed.
One qualm I had was that the Elegance Club was only available for adults, and there was no option to upgrade just my husband and me for when the kids were in kids club. It would have been nice to have the option of non-buffet food for breakfast and lunch.
There are 5 pools available to the families. I don't think any were heated, but that was okay in March. The kiddie pool was connected to some of the swim up suites, and I appreciated that it had a swim up bar that served both fancy non-alcoholic drinks as well as some alcoholic drinks (if you wanted certain higher end liquors, you might have to go to a different pool bar). Miguel, the bartender at the Glee bar, was over worked but very friendly and happy to make oreo milkshakes for the kids and passion fruit margaritas for me. I did appreciate that all the fruit drinks were made from real fruit puree, complete with seeds.
Service is an issue here. They need more bartenders and waiters at the pools and beach. Service was great in the buffets and restaurants, though (especially Cristian at Bistro).
The entertainment staff worked hard to get people to participate in the dance and exercise classes (kudos to Gio and Isabel), but I think most people preferred to lounge around. I enjoyed my short Bachata class as well as the aquaerobics. The yoga class was excellent.
Food was fine. As I mentioned above, unless you were in the Elegance Club, room service or buffet were the only options for breakfast and lunch. For dinner, we could eat at any restaurant, and if you were willing to eat earlier, there was no wait or difficulty eating at any of the a la carte restaurants. Only Bistro and Kabuki require reservations, and those are pretty easy to get too if you book on your first day with the concierge. I enjoyed the Bistro experience but found the rest of the food standard AI food, which is to say, below average.
My kids (age 5 and 7) generally enjoyed the kids club. It's a small club with max capacity of 12 kids, but there were never 12 kids there. The club was very well organized, and I felt safe having the kids there.
I've been to 5 different all-inclusive resorts in the Cancun area. I'd put Majestic Elegance above Riu and Sensira but below Atelier/Estudio and Paradisus Playa Del Carmen. The setting is beautiful, but the beds are too hard. There aren't enough waiters at the pools. The music is too loud by the main pool, and we can still hear blaring music after 10:30PM most nights. The food isn't very good other than Bistro. I will say that I appreciate that Majestic really is all-inclusive. Other than bottles of wine, you aren't asked to upgrade your meal for extra money, which does happen rampantly at Paradisus. There is no timeshare sell scheme like at Paradisus. But the food and service were better at Paradisus.
