Cute, petit little inn hidden near the end of Front Street, back to and has full view of the ocean. Morning waves roll into the seawall and afternoon sunset are the sound and view to die for. The room was recently remodeled so it’s like a brand new mini condo with everything accommodated just like those brandname hotels minus daily room service. Side notes: the lower level unit could be disturbed if there were “lead foot” occupants on the upper units. The entire complex and the unit are well maintained, the property is clean and all spaces are usable. Parking accommodations are sufficient; larger vehicles may struggle to maneuver. Property management team has been very helpful and friendly. Cost is relatively reasonable. This Inn is a hidden gem.

We throughly enjoyed our stay here it’s a great location, walking distance to the shops and restaurants on Front Street. The sunset is stunning to watch at night from the outdoor patio, and you’ll always see atleast 2 Sea Turtles in the water! The Inn also has a very sweet and timid black stray cat that wanders about the property, who could use fresh water and food every so often, the cat is very small and undernourished; however, with some love I’m sure it’ll be in great health!

Wonderful little Inn right on the Ocean. It is an older Inn for sure, But clean it and inexpensive. We have really enjoyed our two weeks stay. Sit on our patio and watch the sun come up as we eat brought breakfast each morning. The ocean is about 10 feet from our patio. The staff has been super friendly and helpful. We would definitely come back here again. Beckie & Charles

I visited Hawaii solo for a month stay from the UK and my week-long stay at Makai Sunset Inn was wonderful and memorable. I can't recommend it highly enough as an authentic Maui experience and an antidote to the larger over-priced resorts - you even get to use of The Royal Lahaina resort's pool and classes, so get the best of both worlds! My room (deluxe suite) was gorgeous - spacious, modern and spotless and well stocked from the toiletries and fluffy towels to the coffee and equipment in the kitchenette. Staff are really friendly and present in a helpful, but not intrusive way. I loved listening to the ocean waves crashing as I drifted off to sleep (in a massive comfy bed) and the sea views and front row seats on Maui's incredible sunsets were a huge bonus. The location is brilliant, walking distance to everything Lahaina has to offer: shops, restaurants etc. and baby beach. So glad I found this place and will definitely book again if I'm luckily enough to visit Maui a second time. Thank you!

If you want an intimate experience while staying in Maui, this place is great! My mom and I didn't want to stay in a heavily commercial resort and this place made us beyond happy. Most resorts or hotels, you are too far away to hear the ocean waves. When I say you can throw a stone out the window from the bed, I am not exaggerating. (Look at my photos!) Julio, the property manager, was extremely kind during check in and gave us some great tips on things to see in Maui. I will definitely be back.

The property is old and needs a lot of work. The location is great and it is clean and quiet. There was a TV in the room but it was not hooked up to cable. Fortunately, we had brought a Roku stick with us for those rare times we did want to use it. Staff was helpful. It was a "good" experience and the price was right.

My bf booked this place and after reading the reviews I was very skeptical. But the place turned out to be amazing! Stayed 3 nights here (Queen bed no direct ocean view - good choice as you can just walk to the backyard to see the ocean view + less sun shining in so not too hot) Room and bathroom was clean, no rust like others mentioned. Water pressure on room 26 is great! Apparently new owners took over so rooms are getting work done 👍 service was friendly as well, we asked for new towels and beach towels daily and was greeted with a smile 😊 The inn is a sister hotel with Royal Lahaina, was told we could also use their amenities as well, but we didn’t have time to check it out. Location is convenient! 1. Right by the ocean (had sea turtle neighbors the first day) , sleep to the sound of the waves 2. 5min drive to two plaza full of food choices and grocery store (foodland, Starbucks, kihei caffe) 3. 2min drive to local restaurants (star noodle was so delicious! No reservation so we waited 1hr in our room then drove back) 4. 10min drive to the Lahaina dock for whale watching and down the hatch. 5. Not far from black rock beach for snorkelling with Bob’s snorkel rental on the way too! Cons: - saw 3-5 mini ants in the washroom - mattress was too soft for my liking - AC is old and LOUD but it cooled down the room no problem. Overall the cons didn’t affect my experience to deduct a star since my expectations were pretty low from the beginning 😂 Would recommend this Inn to others staying in Maui for a few nights.

Out of the three different places we stayed at, during our Maui vacation, Makai Sunset Inn was unquestionably our favourite for many reasons. At an affordable price point, we got a neat and clean 1 bedroom apartment with attached bathroom, a kitchen, living and dining room. But what makes this an unbeatable stay is the views outside. The ocean is mere feet away from your room that the sound of the waves is clearly audible from anywhere in the apartment. Please note that there's no beach access. But the premises are so gorgeous and this Inn has multiple nice outdoor seating areas that are perfect for watching sunsets. We initially had plans to go to other popular tourist spots to catch sunsets but this was so beautiful that we didn't want to leave. I, who am not a morning person, woke up every morning we stayed here to watch the sunrise that lights up the neighboring island, Lanai. The abundant sealife in these waters were an additional plus. Without costing an extra penny, you can watch sea turtles, fish and other wild dolphin like creatures throughout the day. Makai sunset Inn also have rooms that come with private balconies from where you have unobstructed views of the sea. The location is also super convenient and in walking distance of many popular restaurants. This Inn also provides beach equipment from beach chairs and umbrellas to boogie boards and pool noodles, free for use. Laura, the office manager was very attentive, made our check-in and checkout a breeze, made sure everyone had fresh laundered beach towels for use at all times and also gave us great tips for touring Lahaina. We had one parking slot within the gates of the inn. We won't be looking for another place to stay for our next trip to Maui.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Makai Sunset Inn for five nights. I had booked the hotel through Southwest Airlines' website, and received Southwest Rapid Rewards miles for staying there. Maui is the most expensive of the Hawaiian Islands and we wanted something somewhat affordable that was a step up from a youth hostel. We are too old to be sharing bathrooms! Here are the Pros and Cons to this hotel: PROS: 1. The hotel manager was very kind. We were checking in late, so he taped an envelope with my info on the office window. He also repaired our shower drain, which wasn't draining properly. 2. Our room had a full kitchen. 3. Great location, in walking distance to a few restaurants. 4. Laundry facilities available on site, for $1.00 to wash and $1.00 to dry. 5. Ocean views from second floor balcony. 6. Cozy sitting area near sea wall. 7. Free beach equipment (boogie boards, coolers, etc) to borrow, as well as beach towels. CONS: 1. No A/C in our room. I didn't think that would be a problem, since there were nice ocean breezes, but our room got very hot, even with a ceiling fan and a floor fan blowing. I had a hard time sleeping. 2. Very thin walls. We could hear our neighbor in his bathroom at 5 am. 3. Tiny bugs in the kitchen and bathroom. They were everywhere. 4. Tight parking spots. Luckily, we had rented a compact car. 5. No beach access. That being said, in Hawaii by law, there are no private beaches. Every hotel and resort must provide a specified number of beach access parking spots. We visited the beach at the Hyatt Regency Resort and parked there for free. 6. No TV in the room. This didn't really bother us, however, since we were too busy to watch TV most of the time, anyway. Overall, we had a good stay, but we will splurge for a hotel with A/C next time.

Yelp
You know those charming little hotels in Paris? Where you have coffee in the courtyard and croissants? But can also hear your neighbors banging around on top of you and walking in. Makai Sunset sun is just like that. If you want to wake up early and bring your coffee outside to greet the day (coffee from your little kitchen) come here. Not crowded. Green curtains with orange poms. Chairs by the sea wall overlooking the ocean. At night you can sleep with the windows open, listening to the ocean. Pros: charming and really close to the ocean. Kitchen with a refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, hot water maker, dishwasher and tiny stove. Microwave. Cons: road noise and people noise although a lot of the people staying here seem to be older and they're not super noisy. No pool on the property.

Yelp
This inn would have been good accomodations had it not been for the ongoing construction that starts 730am every morning and continues until early evening. The workers are LOUD! The noise is pretty constant. There are also ants and roaches everywhere so good had to be kept in the fridge. We left some persimmons out on the chair to ripen and the ants were on them within 10 minutes. Since we had planned to take them back home. Each fruit had to be washed and inspected. That being said, we can see Lanai from the inn's backyard, which was nice. Honestly though, had we known about the construction and ant problem beforehand we would have chosen a hotel.
