Makulay Lodge & Villas

The staff are really nice. The service was good. Stayed at the cottage at the very top of the mountain. Sunset view from the balcony is incredible, not to mention the stars at night! This place is really unique and brilliant if you want to get away from it all. Just know that the shower is very weak and there are a lot of insects. When you climb the 200 steps to the cottage you will be covered in sweat but hey.... think of it as a hotel with a gym! The people that run the place are really nice and helpful.

The Makulay Lodge and Villas is in a prime location, over looking the El Nido bay with the most amazing views. The outlook was second to none. ||Unfortunately for the room itself, it wasn't cleaned to other hotels expectations, and it was dark as less than half of the lights worked. There was no air-con, only a fan, or opening the windows which meant bugs... ||The staff were friendly and happy to help when needed. ||||The view really was the highlight of this hotel, however this hotel is only for the fit as many, many stairs need to be climbed to get to the room.

We stay in room 5D and is about 90 steps to the top of the hill. Nice outdoor area with a view of the water. The room was basic with a fan and had a net for the bed. For a 3 star hotel in comparison with other hotels in El Nido, it was good value. It’s about a 10 minute walk to town. It’s good for people looking for some quiet time after a long day of activities.

Beautiful lodge in a gorgeous location. The restaurant bar area is very modern and chic, the staff are so kind and helpful it was such a joy to arrive here. As is made very clear, the rooms are up quite a few steps but it was never an issue, especially waking up to this beautiful view. One morning we woke up to hornbills outside our window! If you plan ahead definitely book a room in this lovely lodge although remember it's not a fancy, modern room but you get the most gorgeous views. It's just outside of town but only a 5 minute walk away with their own private bit of beach overlooking the bay.

We booked our stay at Makulay on a recommendation from a friend (who had a great stay there a few years ago) and were VERY disappointed with our experience, to say the least. Apparently its under new management that isn't managing it. The entire hotel was under construction (loud noise, unable to walk to our room at certain times, no privacy) and the room we booked a month in advance smelled like mildew and RAID. Our toilet wouldn't flush for the entirety of our stay, no towels, and management was hard to find and unhelpful when found. 2 of our friends got robbed for about $400 US dollars apiece (from their luggage in the room), and management made no attempts to help or rectify the situation. They still haven't even responded. Shame. Never given a bad review before but this place really earned one.

We booked four months in advance based on the photos and reviews from people previous to us. We arrived to find the place was being renovated and nobody had informed us. To make matters worse, the manager still took us to our room, which was absolutely disgusting, and nowhere near the quality pictured in the photos. Mold, exposed wires, stains, foam furniture, exposed nails, bugs, and filthy. After talking to the manager he apologized and said he would refund us the money. Two months later we have only received 1/3 of the amount owed. Do not trust this property, do not stay here. There is no beach outside, instead, there's a cemetery on the adjacent property.

This place is absolutely horrible! We booked a double bed room and what we've got was ridiculous! The beds in these "villas" are way too small. We were happy that we stayed only 2 nights. The manager is so badly unprofessional. His answer to that small bed was " but I had other "bigger" guests and they didn't complain at all" .. the price range is definitely too high for what you'll get. Everything was very dirty. Bedding, towels, floor... And we haven't had any water the 2nd evening/night. I definitely wouldn't recommend that place! Every hostel in El nido is better!

We were supposed to stay here starting Dec 31, 2018 for a week. When our flight got canceled on 12/31, I called and the manager expressed an understanding that we would not be arriving until early the next morning and he arranged for us to be picked up. So, a good start... However, when we got picked up on Jan 1st from a tricycle that they arranged, NOBODY was at Makulay for hours. We hauled all of our stuff up the steps and waited until 10:30 am when we finally walked down the block and got a new hotel. I called and they said that they would reimburse me as no one was there and we did not know what to do. Every morning, we drove by and there was construction going on and no one working the desk or at the restaurant. I paid $500 and did not stay there a single night and was told that I'd be reimbursed for the night when our flight was canceled as well as for the fact that we had to scurry and get a new place to stay.
