This was one of the best stays on our trip down south. Grover checked us in. He greeted us outside and brought a cart for our items. Was extremely helpful. Brian from maintenance was great as well. He was knowledgeable of the Inn and Sat and talked a bit with us. The hospitality was awesome from both Grover and Brian. |It is a place we would love to stay longer at, next visit. The whole place is inviting, comfortable and full of history.

I needed a safe, affordable and cozy room for my 5 YO and myself on my way back from NC to Houston. The rooms have an old world aesthetic that encompasses you in nostalgia and 50’s style charm. This hotel has an amazing courtyard that I enjoyed in the middle of the night to myself. The staff was so friendly and kind, got me checked in quickly so my baby girl and I could get rest. I am very pleased with my experience here. BONUS: no $100 deposits to be refunded in 8 days. Paid for room, gave ID and checked in. Thank you.

The courtyard is beautiful! The rooms give you that back in time feeling. The gentleman that checked us in was so helpful and always asking if we needed something or if he could help in any way. I loved that you got an actually key on a ring, makes you feel at home and the rocking chair all around the outside of the rooms. Can't wait to come back and stay for a few days!

We really enjoyed our stay at Malaga inn. From the start it was great. They allowed early check in, upgraded us to a suite, and were very nice & helpful. Ms. Cathy was so friendly & kind. The inn has a beautiful courtyard with Gas lanterns all around the property that reminds me of the French Quarter in New Orleans. There is a beautiful park across the street with a fountain and lovely area around the inn that we took advantage of. Although there is No restaurant/microwaves on site, there are plenty of restaurants nearby, some within walking distance. They Do have elevators But they Werent working when we stayed (April 2025). So keep that in mind if you have mobility issues. They have Free off street parking, Easy access to Interstate and nearby attractions. We enjoyed our stay and will be back. Thank you Malaga Inn.

Gorgeous historic hotel that preserves that southern charm. The building is very ornate with french-colonial era ironwork, architecture, and art with a long and storied history. The room was like stepping back in time 150 years with just enough modern comforts to stay immersed. If you are looking for modern amenities there are plenty of chain hotels in the area. If you are wanting to experience REAL Mobile history and enjoy a hotel that has personality, eclectic decor and furniture, this is the place. Location is amazing in the heart of downtown, a short walk to dozens of bars, restaurants, and historic sites. Parking lot is fenced in for security, staff is super friendly and will gladly tell you about the hotel history (ask about the tunnels!). Room was clean, had cold AC, and beautiful private balcony overlooking the street. This will now be our go-to place for weekend getaways and we are already plotting on our return to the Malaga!

When traveling, I prefer to choose a family owned, historic Inn. I look for charm and personality. Found each here, both in the property and the owner/staff. Everyone was personable and friendly. Enjoyed my overnight stay. Great location, easy to navigate the city from this point. My ground floor room faced the beautiful courtyard. Well maintained property. This one is a gem! Will stay again!

This place!!! I felt the instant charm and rich history the moment I walked in. I was upgraded to a historic room with a balcony, and I can’t tell you how much I needed that after a long drive. The weather was beautiful, and I even slept with the balcony doors open—it was heavenly. Honestly, I didn’t want to leave. The vibe of this place is unmatched. Both ladies I spoke with at check-in and check-out were incredibly friendly and helpful—they made me feel truly welcomed and cared for. And for such a reasonable price and perfect location within walking distance to restaurants, the whole experience felt like a true gift. If you’re heading to Mobile, don’t miss the chance to stay here!

What a beautiful and historic place!! Absolutely loved the courtyard. The staff was so friendly and our room was very comfortable and clean. It was great being within walking distance of so many great restaurants and bars. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
This hotel has the best staff!!!! Love Tracy. I came for Saturday night. I ended staying until Wed. Love the charm of the historic rooms. My bed was super comfy. Super clean. I would totally live in this hotel. Especially #218.

Yelp
I was assigned a room without a balcony or windows and with two beds upon checking in, I promptly returned to the front desk to address the discrepancy. I was informed that the room I had booked was occupied by guests who had opted to extend their stay. When I inquired about relocating to another balcony room, I was told that none were available. However, after expressing my disappointment and stepping away, I was subsequently offered a different room with ample natural light and a balcony. This room was spacious, albeit with an eclectic assortment of antique furniture and two twin beds. While the mattresses were old and lacked sufficient support, the room was adequately clean, and the central air conditioning and heating system functioned properly. During my two-night stay, my room was not serviced. Furthermore, the room lacked basic amenities, including a refrigerator, and although an ice bucket was provided, there was no ice machine available, requiring me to request ice from the front desk. The walls were remarkably thin, allowing conversations and television sounds from neighboring rooms to be clearly audible. Nevertheless, the hotel's location was convenient, within walking distance to various restaurants, and offered a favorable value with complimentary parking in a gated lot. While my experience was not entirely disappointing, I would exercise caution before considering a return stay.

Yelp
An older hotel that's been kept up pretty well. You have the usual things with older places - so you're not going to get perfection - but it's lovely and nicely furnished. And quiet. There is lot parking, an ice machine, some seating in the lobby, and the staff was pleasant. TVs in both the sitting area and bedroom. We arrived later in the evening, and the desk person showed us a shortcut to our room that saved us a bit of walking. We only stayed overnight, and it was raining a bunch, so we didn't explore the grounds. It's within walking distance to some bars and eateries, but no market nearby - and the liquor store carries some stuff (but at highway robbery pricing) so pick up sodas/snacks and bring them in with you.

Patti C.

Yelp
This is an older home style hotel with authentic old furniture, high ceilings , porches with rockers, and charming courtyard. Staff is exceptional especially Arnetta at the front desk. What a bubbly ball of fire. She was so helpful with tips and so friendly. Made you feel at home. If you are looking for old style charm, this hotel is for you. Great rates and comfy with southern charm.and easily walking distance in town of Mobile AL

Natalie G.

Yelp
This boutique hotel is definitely one of a kind especially in the state of AL. So much history. The bed was extremely comfortable. It is very very quiet so if you like a little white noise when you sleep make sure you plan to bring that. It's very clean and the front desk staff were accommodating. Steps away from the Mobile Civic Center so a great place to stay if you are seeing a concert or other event. We were there for Skillet. I'd definitely stay here again. Super close to everything and a unique place to stay. Parking is free.

Jean S.

Yelp
Online it looked like a neat place to spend the night. It has the bones to be a special place. But it's a tad rundown and needs some updating. The elevator was broken. So getting your stuff upstairs was inconvenient. The courtyard looks like it's under construction in spots. The receptionist was sweet and accommodating.

Yelp
Do you love history? Do you love ghost stories? Do you love a beautiful, tranquil setting? Do you want to support a woman-operated business? If the answer to all of these is YES, then you have to check out the Malaga Inn. This place is absolutely beautiful! I enjoyed my stay there so much, and I was disappointed that I only had time to stay one night in this dreamy, lovely hotel. Even though it was hot and humid, we still enjoyed sitting for a spell in the rocking chairs that were outside our room on the wraparound porch. Our bed was so comfy, and the shower had good water pressure. Our room was beautiful, clean, and had a nice balcony. The staff were super-friendly and pleasant. Even though I didn't get to see the hotel's ghost, and we didn't experience any paranormal activity, we had a wonderful stay! I would definitely want to stay here again and stay longer.

Marie L.

Yelp
This hotel, along with Mobile itself, was a wonderful hidden gem! The room rate was reasonable, the staff were so welcoming, and the location just exuded peace and tranquility! It is within walking distance of fun bars and restaurants and I will only stay here if I ever get back to Mobile!!

Asi S.

Yelp
Very cool history to the building. I however did not see any paranormal activities during our stay. The rooms aren't Updated like newer hotels, o fridges or microwaves in the rooms. The did stop having breakfast during CoVid and it hasn't started back up. Bed was comfortable, room was clean. Staff were very friendly and got us extra towels etc. Courtyard fountain was so peaceful. Walking distance to Dauphine street. Lots of parks in the area . would definitely recommend this hotel

Trish A.

Yelp
Miss Arletta and Miss Charlotte are both absolutely wonderful. The hotel is walking distance from everything I wanted to see in downtown Mobile. The rooms were nice and air conditioned, which was great considering the feels like temperature topped 110 degrees. The bed was very soft and comfortable. The only suggestion I would offer is to clean the bathroom more thoroughly. It was quite dusty. Otherwise, everything was lovely.

Clint M.

Yelp
What a wonderful quaint hotel. There is a lot of history to read about this place for anyone who does a little investigative work. Back from the civil war the two front parts of the building where once two townhomes built by brothers for their wives. You will have to look up the rest yourselves. Supposedly a little haunted, room 007, and no not by James Bond. Large parking lot, awning for when it is raining. Trolly carts to get your stuff in used by President Ronald Reagan, Michael Landon, and others. Pictures on wall at original front desk. Courtyard in middle is large with water fountain and seating. Real gas lamps light up the area. Rooms are large and very nice. Golf cart service will come pick you up and take you to any shops you want to go and then pick you up when you're done. Charlotte helped us at check in and answered our questions. She was very nice and helpful. Everyone here was nice. This was a joy to stay at. Will be coming back here soon.

Yelp
Charming, beautiful, historic all used to describe this gem in Mobile. Very reasonably priced and clean also describes the Malaga Inn. The staff were friendly and check-in was quick and efficient. Parking is convenient and bars and restaurants are just blocks, an easy and safe walk from the inn. The courtyard has all the southern charm one could ask for plus beautiful flowers, gas lights, ect... I highly recommend Malaga as a place to stay. The issues I had are cosmetic, like the thermostat is for frustrated travelers like myself, however, it had no bearing on the temp of the room. Our room was cold, needed a second blanket cold. I like a headboard on a bed, ours did not have one, just the bed against the wall with pillows piled high. There was only one chair in the large spacious room. We had to fight for it to put on our shoes. The bed was too high, lovely and comfortable but not comfortable for sitting. On a more personal note the night clerk was fond of pine air freshener, it took my breath away when we walked through the lobby to go to dinner. Truly, I could not breath. It makes me wonder what smells they are trying to hide. It was perfectly fine at check-in. Despite its minor faults, Malaga Inn is a lovely restful place to stay. Full of charm and beauty, it represents all of the best of the old south.

Yelp
Quaint historic boutique hotel that was recommended by local guide a week prior to the launch of Mardi Gras festivals. History has it that it is haunted and ghost tours stop here. Overall hotel from the onset looked great. The ASM was super friendly and amazing. Once we got to our room, in my opinion the room could use extra cleaning & detail (floors were a bit sticky as was the tv remote). Rooms had a coffee maker but did not provide bottle water for the coffee maker; vanity mirror did not light. Hmm.... Don't get me wrong it wasn't a dump, yea old but that is quaint but it can have a bit more flare. Shower worked great and good hot water. Neither the bar nor kitchen were in operation and were told it had not been open since "Covid". Had to go to the adjacent hotel to pay/enjoy a drink, a snack and water for our room. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures. We like staying in boutique but in my humble opinion the owner should invest in the small details of a boutique hotel that draw customers away from chain hotels (for example our experience at The New World Inn - Pensacola Florida was amazing). Recommend ask questions prior to booking.

Yelp
Traveling across the country we stumbled upon this place and are so happy we did!!! This place is drenched in history and you can feel it! Staff are the sweetest ever! The room and the bedding was extremely clean! If you are looking for Uber modern amenities this is not for you. It has old school windows and actual keys for the doors. Although it has AC, a TV, and a coffee maker it keeps to the original feel. Such a wonderful way to enjoy history! I wish we could have had the opportunity to explore the tunnels used by confederate soldiers.

B J.

Yelp
Very kind staff and good location. But the house's walls are paper thin- medium cleanliness and NOISY. The noise was from other guests and the staff. They can't help it- it just has really thin walls. No food on site or really close, though you can walk a few blocks to restaurants. Bed would sink in the middle, worn but antique decor. Not the worse, but buyer beware.

Gabriel N.

Yelp
Excellent historic hotel, feels like you are on the granma house!!! Very clean, excellent service!!!

Chris A.

Yelp
This hotel really felt homely and welcoming and the staff including Ms. Arnetta went beyond the call of duty to insure that my stay was comfortabl!

Patrick W.

Yelp
Anita, the assistant manager, was the most wonderful host I've ever had at a hotel. She is truly is the bomb. The hotel itself is so unique and full of history and nuance. I will certainly return here again.

Tony S.

Yelp
If you're a perfectionist (oh no! A spot of mildew in the bathroom; a drop of wall paint on the molding), don't stay here! If you want all the modern conveniences (oh, no! No microwave or mini fridge; no ice machine on every floor), don't stay here! But, if you want to experience not only a part of the city's history, but a part of our country's history, then this is the place to stay! Not only is this my first stay in a B&B, it's my first stay in an Inn that has such prestige. Built in 1862, the Inn was originally twin homes with a shared carriage-house, built by two brothers. Nearly 100 years past before the homes underwent their first renovation. And, there hasn't been a whole lot of renovation since then either. But, that is what gives a place such a charming appeal. The staff is friendly and helpful. Yet , they respect your privacy. The 39-room (with a few suites) Inn is very peaceful, and the room darkening curtains do their job. Though even without them, I think, it wouldn't be that bad. In checking in, there wasn't anyone to help with the luggage. And, I had to do a Harry Potter move from The Sorcerer's Stone, and start running to get up the ramp for going into the lobby. But, when I got into the courtyard, a staff member saw saw me, and came over to help. After unloading the luggage, the guy refused a tip. However, when I was checking out, a staff member saw me pushing the empty luggage cart, and came over to help. He loaded up the luggage, got it down to the parking lot where my car was, and help me get most of it in for the car. He told me it wasn't necessary. But I force the issue this time. When I opened the door, and stepped into my room, and other than it being a nippy 65 degrees, it felt as if I went back in time 100 years (until I saw the flat screen T.V. :-D ). Though, it would have been cool if skeleton keys and crystal door knobs were still in use. But, the chrome fixtures are a bit out of place here. They still use real glass cups, and ceramic mugs! And at breakfast, they use glass plates and real flatware! The Wi-Fi works well. And even though I had to sign in with a password, I did get an alert message saying that it was unsecured. The bar is very quaint, and almost cozy. Oh the beds. Oh the beds! It was like sleeping on a cloud. Now, some reviews have complained about the pillows. But, I didn't mind them. However, as someone who used to do a lot of traveling years ago, I learned it was always best to bring a pillow from home. And the towels! Oh the towels. While I've used towels that have been one step above sandpaper, these towels were so soft. Even softer than what I use at home. The breakfast room is open and airy. And you have your choice of either eating inside, or out in the courtyard. Of course, one cannot come to the Deep South, and not try the biscuits and sausage gravy. Yummy! My only complaints? I'm here for one night only, and truly didn't have a chance to experience everything that the Inn, and the city of Mobile, has offer. And, even though the chair is upholstered and cushioned, you can feel the chair frame when you sit in it.

Brenda P.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here last night. We chose it because it was downtown in the historic district, directly across the street from the Civic Center Theater. The Inn was recommended to us by other family members who had stayed here in the past. The front desk staff were all friendly and welcoming. This is an old hotel and the central court side room was well appointed with period wood furniture, comfortable chair by the window for reading, The wifi and TV worked well. Room was clean; they brought us fresh white bath towels right from the laundry after we checked into our room. Beds were clean, comfortable mattress and pillows. The tub/shower had strong, water flow with good adjustable water temperature. Off street complimentary self-parking with easy access was protected by surrounding fencing. We got up this morning, walked down to St Francis and had a wonderful leisurely breakfast at a downtown restaurant then walked back and checked out at 11:00 AM. We definitely will plan to stay here again the next time we visit Mobile. This is a wonderful historic city with lots to still see and experience!

Kathleen H.

Yelp
Neat place. Free parking, steps from downtown. It's different from the chain hotels I usually stay at, but it was a neat pace with a beautiful courtyard.

Andrea S.

Yelp
I enjoyed my stay at the Malaga Inn in Mobile. I stayed two days. I had two diffrent rooms, both with private balconies, one upstairs and one downstairs. My only complaint is that the first room I stayed in upstairs was very cold. The room already had a electric portable radiator. It took very long time to heat up the room with the radiator because the rooms are huge and old, with very high ceilings. My husband and I resolved this issue by moving the portable radiator between the two four poster beds which warmed us up quite a bit. Both days I stayed we had a full complimentary breakfeast, complete with Southern Biscuits and Gravy.

Jim S.

Yelp
This is a tired, threadbare hotel. It has a nice enough courtyard, but the rest of it is a hotel from probably the 1960's, that has been given a superficial makeover to fool you into thinking it is old. What was it originally? Motel 6? Super 8? Who knows? If it was 65 dollars a night, it would get five stars from me, but for 218 a night, you'll feel like you are getting ripped off. Sloppy paint job, random extension cords on the balconies that go nowhere, and a bottle opener on the top inside of the bathroom door, this hotel is just odd. We had to switch rooms twice, once because the mattress was falling off the bedframe, and the second time because some maintenance guy had evidently decided to rip apart the shower drain, then abandon the project. He was nowhere to be seen, but the shower drain was obviously not functioning. But our third room was passable. Everything worked, a/c was noisy but adequate, plenty of hot water, etc. But it was mediocre at best, and looked like they had raided a thrift store for random pseudo- vintage furniture. Would not repeat.

Scott D.

Yelp
To start with I was concerned by Erin G and her scathing review. I feel like a spoiled sorority girl had unreasonable expectations. There were no issues with the room clean and well put together. No issues with bathroom either. I also don't understand the need for a larger television we actually spend time together as a couple the television was off the entire stay. I am thoroughly glad I did not let a negative Nancy stop us from staying here. Highly recommend staying.

Tammy B.

Yelp
What an amazing historic place to stay at! We had 2 rooms booked and they were both so different and yet fun. My bed was so incredibly comfortable, I have no complaints. The decor is fun, the courtyard is absolutely beautiful during the day and even more so at night. The Malaga is located in a very cute part of Mobile, we couldn't have asked for better. Now for the BEST part of our stay: Daniel, at the front desk. My mom and I ended up having such a nice long conversation with him and we both agreed he completely made our trip to Mobile, by far the highlight of our stay! Daniel is an absolute gem.

Jackie C.

Yelp
Stayed at the Malaga Inn for a concert at the Mobile Civic Center this weekend and was very impressed with both the property and the staff. It is a very quaint Southern Hotel with tons of personality. To add to its charm, every member of the staff went out of the way to enhance our experience. When it cam

Kristin L.

Yelp
Hotel with charm indeed. Clean room with histrionic building. Easy walk to restaurants and coffee. Beautiful neighborhood. We checked in at 5 and walked to nice seafood restaurant. What a nice evening in Mobile

Odo B.

Yelp
This place is a gem! I pass through a few times a year, and always stay here. It's charming with a ton charisma, and feels every bit part of the history of the city, in a convenient location. I get why it's not 5 stars for everyone, It is old, and creaky, and setup for someone to complain. It ain't the Hilton, and for those of us that appreciate that, this is home, while in Mobile.

NonDiegan R.

Yelp
I was so excited for this stay! Unfortunately, the hotel does not monitor their online booking services. The room I paid for was overbooked. The receptionist, put us in a room that I obviously did not book. Went back to see why I wasn't put in the room I booked. I showed her pictures of the room and she put me in another one. Again, it wasn't the room I booked. I checked the listing and noticed she put me in a room that was considerably less than the room I had paid for. Was I made aware of this? Was I told I would be refunded for the different? NO! They deceptively tried to give me a cheap room and charge the price of a nice room. In any other instance this would be considered STEALING. So why was I met with apathy and somebody who couldn't even apologize for the inconvenience? It's beyond me. Unfortunately, this beautiful stay was absolutely ruined by apathetic liars and thieves. If they would have just explained the overbooking upfront, there would have been no problem. But they chose to be deceptive because, apparently, they couldn't be bothered to care. Will they do anything about their immoral business practices? Considering how little the front desk lady cared, probably not.

Ashton G.

Yelp
The Malaga is a very cute hotel located in downtown Mobile. It has a lot of charm and is a great place to hangout and catch the Mardi Gras parades during the season. It's very pricey to stay at during the season and prices fluctuate depending on which society is parading/ balling. They renovated the rooms over the last few years which really improved the quality of the rooms. I would recommend staying here during Mardi Gras if you are attending a ball across the street at the Civic Center/ Expo Hall.

Chris G.

Yelp
If you're looking for spit and polish, along with carefully scripted unctuous greetings at the front desk handed down by corporate overlords, this ain't your place. Friendly but not oleaginous. Just the way I like it. Instead the Malaga Inn is something different. The term 'raffish' comes to mind, in the most complimentary sense of the word. The elevator is a bit temperamental, the WiFi moves at the speed of your average ox cart, and it doesn't really matter. For what matters is the gracefulness of the place. All the rooms are arrayed around a central courtyard complete with fountain, so it practically begs you to be part of a community rather than just some random traveler. In that sense, the Malaga Inn is more than a box where they keep the bed. It is an upraised middle finger to the sleek generic efficiency of the Hiltons of the world. And it won't cost like one. That's why this has become my favorite hotel in Mobile.

PawTee DeeDee L.

Yelp
I have stayed for four nights. No maid service, sink clogged up, no toilet paper( had to go ask), no coffee utensils. The hotel is struggling, will not stay again.

Joey K.

Yelp
A quaint little place that is converted from a pair of townhouses built in 1862. There is a central courtyard, but no pool. A tiny bar is nestled in a corner by the area that is set aside for the free breakfast. The room was more like a spare bedroom you'd stay in as a house guests. Rooms used real keys, make sure you bring yours when you leave the room. Bed was basic, bathroom was simple, and the room had its quirks, like the spot that would pop up and down when you stepped on it. No closet or dresser, but an antique armoire. All the people were very friendly, and always acknowledged us and greeted us. Room wasn't even that expensive. Staying here is more for if you want your stay to be more an immersive experience than a simple place to bed down for the night. As stated, it's a 150+ yo building.

Yelp
This was our 2nd visit to the Malaga and we love this historic gem in downtown Mobile. The lovely fountain courtyard fountain surrounded by gas lights, lush greenery & flowers is the perfect place to unwind after a long day or to wake up with coffee. My daughter's favorite detail was the white rocking chairs on all the balconies. The staff is so welcoming and goes out of their way to provide true southern hospitality. Our rooms were clean and comfortable, and decorated with vintage furnishings. We also spent a fun evening in Maisie's pub in the old carriage house in the ground level. Her "courtyard to cocktails" fresh libations were creative & refreshing! The complimentary southern breakfast was quite good: scrambled eggs (real of course), biscuits, sausage, grits, & gravy. Mmmmmm! Also available were muffins, bagels, juice, milk & cereal. If you are looking for accommodations beyond the cookie-cutter chains, try the charming Malaga!

Barabara M.

Yelp
We booked a room about six weeks in advance of arrival and paid for it when we booked. We were assured that the reservation was fully refundable if canceled a week in advance. Several days after making the reservation, we found we had to cancel. I phoned to cancel and asked for a cancellation number but was told I didn't need one as the person on the phone said it would be fully refunded immediately. When our credit card bill arrived, the full charge of $204 was on the bill. We phoned Malaga Inn and they said we had no proof of the cancellation and the best they could do was to refund 50% of the original bill. We travel through Mobile regularly and will NEVE R stay there again.

Yelp
What started off as a really rocky road to begin with with our check in at 2 AM in our room needing to be changed twice turned out to be better than what we thought. We promptly went to the manager with our issues and what had happened an the fact that we had already pre-paid for this entire week of our business trip. Jennie (hotel manager) went out of her way to make sure we were totally taken care of. Not to mention- The owner Jordan got involved to help with the few issues that we had and got our rooms moved for the final time which turned out to be the best part of our trip (we are here on business). We need to come back to this area for another business trip towards the end of December beginning of January and we will definitely be booking with them showing how prompt they are of getting issues resolved. Ps Emma at the front is so beyond sweet! As well as the evening lady (I didn't catch her name but she's older an so very kind). Thanks Shaun an Nicole Phillips

Yelp
Can not say enough about this hotel and staff! What a cute place to stay. Lots of historical charm! Room was large, super clean, comfy and beautiful. Nice quiet, historic street of downtown Mobile. Within walking distance to the cruise terminal. Beautiful courtyard and a nice hot breakfast! If you need to stay in Mobile, you need to stay here!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Had our wedding at The Malaga this weekend. It was stunning. The historic rooms were lovely. The staff are beyond helpful and attentive.

MA W.

Yelp
Historic hotel ... Charming to a point ... Staff friendly, polite, and nice ... Area is charming and nice ... But, room basically clean, but housekeeping and/or maintenance need to pay attention to the ceiling fans which need a good cleaning. Bathroom in room small, commode is inches from shower, no room to lay down bathroom floor mat. Breakfast was so-so. Coffee was good, hot, simple. Scrambled eggs and grits edible but cold (Buffet style - Serve yourself). Good place to stay for the price. But, only for a one time experience, will not go back.

Elyssa G.

Yelp
A difficult review to write, because if I were just reviewing the property, it would be an easy 5 stars! This little inn is very cool and immersive! You will definitely feel transported to another time with its cute, little courtyard and historic architecture. The rocking chairs and lighting on the porches just add to the ambiance, but unfortunately, the rooms lack where the exterior thrives. Our bed was so soft, we ended up in the center all night. The room was very, very dusty and dirty. Sure, it's cool to feel like you are sleeping in a Pirates of the Caribbean/Haunted Mansion Disney room, but I'm just not sure the room was worth it.

Jennie T.

Yelp
Once again, the Malaga Inn lived up to all my expectations! It's great to return time and time again to familiar faces like Jenny and Jordan, who treat you like you are part of the family! Now add in the wonderful addition of Barbara, Frank, and the effervescent Maisie in the bar, and you now have the perfect place to be! The ambience is incredible, the courtyard delightful and interacting with other guests is like nowhere else in the world! If you are not into the same old corporate places that are identical regardless of where you go, the Malaga Inn is the perfection of real comfort, cool history, friendliness and charm. Try sitting out by the fountain before you start your busy day, and just take in serenity. Ask any staff member about the history, and they are happy to share with you local knowledge of the city and the Inn.

Yelp
Jordan, the owner, was very personable. Great downtown location, puts so much entertainment within walking distance. The property balances updated amenities with southern charm. Comfortable beds and a great shower! If you want a visit with a little more character, stay here for the night.

Yelp
Wouldn't stay here if it wasn't for Mardi Gras. It needs a lot of attention and love. I know it's old, but some things as little as replacing rotten wood and paint would go a long way. Couldn't find the ice machine and the front desk service was lacking. 2 of the outlets in the room did not work. Pros: great location for Mardi Gras and gives a good experience. The bands playing in the courtyard was great.

Yelp
Wonderful stay and such a interesting hotel with secret tunnels and all! The original wallpaper and HUGE glass windows were so amazing! Very cool place to stay! Very clean and friendly staff!

Yelp
So, we wanted desperately to love this historic inn. And save some glaring details we would have really liked it. We stayed for one night of a multi day trip. This is our first time staying in Mobile and we wanted to visit a historic hotel if even for one night. The pros ( and they are certainly there! ): Gorgeous grounds- it truly is a rustic and historic setting with the style to match. Wonderful staff- Friendly, warm, and accommodating staff. Charlotte at the front desk was great. Cait, welcoming you into her bar, was fun and attentive. Comfy and clean beds. Easy parking A few cons- Basically one in particular but it's big and would prevent us from staying here again. The bathrooms. We had two rooms... the bathrooms are small, whatever it's an old inn. One would expect them to be clean and well taken care of, they were not. One bathroom, that I did not see, was reported by our family member to have an old blood spatter on the wall.... ok. Our other bathroom, in my room- the inside of the bathroom door had the appearance of a mechanics shop. It was covered in grease and dirt hand prints. The towel ring was barely hanging in the wall and the paint was scraped below from it being ripped out multiple times. Multiple poorly patched holes in the wall... punches? As well as a small amount of some unknown substance smeared and dried on the wall. The cold water tub faucet had been gingerly balanced by someone on its stem. It slid right off and I ended up having to twist the stem underneath with my fingers to work the cold water... fun! The interior plastic shower curtain was about 1 foot too short for the tub and let ample water shower onto the bathroom floor. The bathroom situation was unacceptable and solidified our decision to stay one night. We loved the staff and the grounds. I hope the negative part of our experience is isolated to just us because it's a place you really want to be awesome.

Yelp
The inn itself was adorable with the exception that the restaurant was closed (due to Covid), the bar was closed (due to Covid), there was little to no hot water AND they ran out of wash clothes so all we had was ONE to use between us (gross) that a neighboring guest gave us and we had ONE bath towel (even grosser) until I went down & complained. And for some reason the bottoms of our feet were filthy dirty from waking across the wood floors while getting ready for bed & we had almost nothing to wash them with. Then to make it even MORE laughable, the door handle on the bathroom door fell off & someone had to push the door open in order for you to get out. Also no glassware (drinking cups) in the bathroom so we used a coffee mug. I we ever come thru Alabama again we might stay there because of the location and southern charm.

Yelp
The Malaga Inn is big on charm but short on polish. The staff was great, the lobby and courtyard are beautiful and the bed couldn't have been more comfortable but maintenance and cleanliness left something to be desired. From the missing door pull on the front door of the hotel, the thickly layered dust on the vents in my room, the musty smell, to the big dried bugger on the inside of the bathroom door it really could use some love. But would I stay there again? Yeah, I really would. It's a charming place and it's a delightful change from cookie cutter corporate hotels. At less than $90 for a night, it's also a great deal. Honestly, if they'd clean the place up, fix the glaring maintenance issues, I'd come back at twice the price.

Yelp
Favorite spot for old Mobile charm. Staff is pleasant and very hospitable and helpful. I'm from Mobile and I love to stay here when I return home. They always treat me like family. Southern charm defines The Malaga.

Yelp
I got a chance to stay here on my first trip to Mobile. Wow! The staff are extremely friendly! The room was clean and very comfortable. The location is perfect! Very centralized. The owners are always around and love to share the history of the Inn. We are definitely coming back to stay! Cannot wait to bring the husband and my dad the next time me and mom come visit! Quiet and centralized! Perfect teacher getaway!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
