"Swedish summer is usually an idyllic time. Days are long and hot, nights are short and warm. Most Swedes take the whole of July as vacation, and many Stockholmers leave the city for their country houses or boats. Thosewho remain enjoy alfresco dining and drinking, and Mälarpaviljongen is one of the best: an all-day café-bar with several floating pontoons. There’s nowhere nicer to sit with a glass of rosé and views over the water. Mixed during the day, it’s one of the city’s best gay bars by night."

This is one of my favorite places to go relax, eat and have some drinks with friends all while enjoying a good view and the occasional breeze on a hot summer day in Stockholm. Highly recommend it to everyone! 😍

I love this place so much! In my opinion, it is the best place to get kanelbulle in Stockholm. It is basically a nice restaurant next to the sea. Some parts of it are even floating on the water! They have many different items including breakfast and lunch, pastries, and they also have wine. The bathrooms are behind the restaurant towards the path. Also, the prices are quite high, but it is so worth it given the really cool experience you will have. There is a bus stop nearby, but expect to walk a bit. If you are ever in the area, I would highly recommend coming here and trying the fresh kanelbulle!

Scenic location, charming environment and good drinks in normal prices for central Stockholm. However, the food is pricey and average and the service is almost non-existent. So yeay for drinks, nay for food.

Beautiful outdoor space right on the water with a modern vibe and good bites to eat and wine. Perfect place to go to get some sunshine and enjoy the lovely view after work in the summer. I recommend the halloumi burger which they can also make gluten-free 🥰

Everything was good & the lady at the counter who took our order was rly sweet, helpful & nice! Us being tourists, there were tons of pastries & food options we were asking her about & she happily politely explained them all to us like how they're baked, drenched in whatever syrup & all that sorta thing. One thing we didn't like hence a 3 star review instead of a 5, there was a SUPER random ?? bouncer ???? or whatever that man was? a security guard?! at the entrance that stopped me & my partner from entering the restaurant ?? because we didn't have ID on us. what kind of restaurant needs ID?! We didn't bring along our passports with us because it was 20min by public transport from our hotel, I don't understand the need for ID?! LOL. He made us stand outside for a solid 10minutes telling us he needs to see our ID & after we told him WE LEGIT don't wanna waste another 20 min going back to our hotel to get our passports, another 20min BACK here again just to prove to him we're above 18 (LMAO we are hitting 30 soon, this guy is clearly taking the piss out of us, we definitely don't look like underaged teenagers cmon) he finally let us in after negotiating & the WORST part was ... after we went in to meet our friend who was already seated with a table, our friend told us when he entered. NO BOUNCER OR SECURITY GUARD asked him for ANY ID. We turned our heads to stare at the front & started seeing a ton of random restaurant goers enter & pick a seat without ANY man standing there to ask them for ID ??? ????? ??? was that random man legit just some joker trying to piss us off or what?! Why ask us for ID when some others didn't have to be asked for ID?! Lemme repeat we are pushing 30, we definitely do NOT look like underaged teens LOL. Ok i'm done ranting, the food was yummy & interesting I guess. The blueberry cheesecake was SOOOO good lol

A drink at Mälarpaviljongen is always a pleasure in the summer. Great vibe, picturesque views and a very friendly atmosphere. A part of it is like a garden, the other part is like you are on a boat. The drinks are always well-made. The food is generally good but not amazing. Recommended!

Yelp
We came here for a late dinner and were pleasantly surprised to see how beautiful the restaurant is. Right on the water, lots of fresh cut flowers. The restaurant smells amazing. We enjoyed it very much.

Yelp
We were staying at my SIL's apartment nearby in August, heard the music and wandered down to see what was happening. What a lovely find! Dave and I are from Arizona in the US and got to hear and meet the lovely and talented Caro Linda! Great drinks, food looked good, going back tomorrow for early dinner before we leave for Gotland!

Yelp
Had a great experience here. The view/ambience and food were equally amazing, and the bartender was nice enough to mix something together since they had run out of ginger beer for the drink we wanted. Great place!

Yelp
fun location on the water but besides that, don't expect much, it's basically a cafe... order your food first, drinks at the bar next, seat yourself, and don't expect much from the staff. waited awhile for our food and when it arrived, we asked for share plates- were told that he was too busy to bring them to us. halfway through our meal, we found saran wrap in our meatballs & when we informed one of their team members- my friend was told that he "didn't like his tone" and what was he "supposed to do about it?"... excuse me?!! the answer is refund or replace the dish or do something/anything to make it right but instead his attitude just made the situation worse... first and last time I'll be coming here.

Yelp
I got this place recommended by a Swedish work mate. The food was great and it's location is beautiful, especially in the evening sun. But It was just too crowded for my liking! If you enjoy hanging out with all of Stockholm at the same time, then this is the place for you. The spot seems very friendly towards same-sex couples and people off all ages. Leaving the pavilion we spotted a rabbit :)

Yelp
I loved it! Quirky semi self-service, but the food is fantastic and the location exceptional. I loved being on the water and the fun of exploring what's basically a little floating garden. My husband thoroughly enjoyed a perfectly delicious and beautifully presented traditional Swedish meatball dinner. I order Swedish Arctic char in a light sauce with roasted vegetables. It was also beautifully presented but I swear the fish must have jumped fresh onto my plate. It was easily one of the best I've had at any restaurant.

Yelp
In the summertime Mälarpaviljongen remains the stellar location for lunch, fika, cocktails or light dinner. The views are just amazing a warm summer night! A previous review I wrote was written in the early parts of their summer season, and was a visit marked by repeated subpar performances. I have however been back a couple of times this summer, and I have to give them credit for improved service and food experiences.

Yelp
Over the top. Best food I have had in Sweden thus far. So very fresh and good. I am an avid fisherman and have caught herring before but this herring is Michelin quality rating amazing. I cannot believe this is not a more expensive and five star yelp restaurant as the prices are perfect, the atmosphere is delighting and the people here are so incredibly nice. If you are looking for an incredible experience come here. They have English menus so do not be deterred when you walk in. I have been sitting here for 35 min and it seems that the line is always long and coming from a guy who hates lines this line is worth it.

Yelp
This place is MAGICAL - but crazy expensive. It's one of the absolute best spots for enjoying Swedish summer. The white-painted wooden dock bobs on the water along Kungsholmen, the sun shines down, the green plants spread throughout make it feel tropical. It's a beautiful bar and restaurant at a beautiful location. The drinks are beautiful, too. But be warned about the prices. One cocktail will easily set you back 140kr. I always opt for the tasty strawberry-basil drink in a jar, but I usually just stick to one drink here due to the prices. It's a great place to kick off an evening, gathering friends for a single drink, and then moving on.

Yelp
Just lovely. A beautiful location, delicious food. Yes it's expensive and yes it's crowded but it was worth it. The simple sandwich of salmon and potatoes was very nice, and my Swedish meatballs were wonderful. But the seared smoked salmon was simply to die for. Probably one of the best salmon dishes I've ever tried. I'm a tourist here and this made for a perfect first meal in Stockholm!

Yelp
I love Mälarpaviljongen. This is my second time coming here on my visit to Stockholm. View is amazing, friendly vibe, great seating, and nice staff. A floating pavilion bar, who can complain? Food/Bar: Decent selection of wines and champagne, and their skägen is delicious! However, they are a bit overpriced in my opinion (but it's Stockholm so it's understandable). You are paying for the view and the vibe :) Staff/Service: Staff is okay, nothing to write home about. Compared to the States where workers are actually working for tips, they do their job but that is about it. Don't expect a waiter to come around and take your order. I just felt like it would be nice if they had waiter/waitresses come around and taking your order/serving your food/drinks every couple minutes rather than go up to the bar and order it yourself. Experience/Atmosphere: Come here during Spring/Summer time and you'll be blown away. With a panoramic view of vintage Swedish architecture right in front of you as you sip on your glass of Rosé with a date, this is the place to be. A place of serenity, Mälarpaviljongen offers a peaceful and relaxing experience. It's just a very chill place to sip on wine or fika. Only reason why I can't give it a 5 stars is because it's slightly pricey and service is more DIY. But then again, you aren't tipping here so I can't complain. I can't wait to come back next time I'm in Sweden.

Yelp
This is my favorite place in the world when it comes to a lunch, afternoon drinks, pre-party drinks, a snack or just having a moment where you enjoy life! It is absolutely beautiful positioned next to (and ON) the water. The restaurant are is surrounded by flowers, trees and plants which makes it an oasis in the centre of Stockholm. The Bar area itself is actually on the water, on a massive and extremely comfortable floating pier. No need to mention that the scenery is just stunning. The clientel is very mixed: gay, straight, young, old, rich, non-rich, famous, non-famous, couples, families, singles...In other words, everyone loves this place. The food feels fresh and tastes nice, they have a good selection on wine and beer as well as gorgeous cocktails. If you visit Stockholm in the summer months, this is a must!

Yelp
Beautiful place by the water. A pre of course is summer+good weather. Don't miss!

Yelp
On a sunday stroll we decided to pop in for a drink in the sun. Although it was really busy we managed to get a seat next to the water! With a beautiful view over Stockholm and perfect place to catch the sunset I definitely will be back for a longer stay, review!

Yelp
This is a nice simple place on the water that has beer, coffee, some basic food... But the spot it's at is lovely. You can also swim here. Just remember sun screen and keep close to the dock. You'll find that you tire out a lot quicker when drunk and if you do get to a point of feeling you're fighting to swim, swim on your back and relax for a few.

Yelp
Great place to sit and have a drink, maybe even dessert. The view across the water is beautiful, especially on a warm day like today. Service here is almost alway very good and staff is very friendly. Well that's the good stuff... We ordered 3 burgers and mine was like a piece of coal and my girlfriends was basically raw everywhere except 5mm around the edges. Chips that came with the burgers arrived in large plastic containers to the restaurant and was not good at all. There's some coleslaw with no flavor on the side and the cucumber stick was like rubber and knife was not able to cut it lol. There's also a piece of tomato and that's about it. Looks nice from a distance, but don't get fooled by this. It took like less than 5 mins from we ordered until we got our food. Usually I'm pro getting my food fast, but not when I'm in restaurant, then it should take some time to prepare the food, especially when the restaurant was full. Burgers here are just boring and uneatable, avoid. Your best bet here is to stick with a glass of wine and some nuts maybe.

Yelp
I finally got a chance to visit this place whose name I can't even come close to pronouncing. Ahhh, it's so nice! My immediate reaction upon sitting down on the furthest deck which is freely floating in the water was to proclaim to my friends "This is the greatest bar in the world". Which I got rightly laughed at for and of course, it probably isn't. I have no idea what sort of crowd ends up here, it wasn't that busy when we came because it wasn't that warm but it was still amazing to sit out on the water at dusk and soak in the view. I love that there are about 5 or 6 distinctly different areas here to sit -- from the closed in, glass gazeebo (which looks beautiful), to the tables on land, to the bar areas, the heated and roofed lounge and the two floating docks. It's a fantastic design, beautifully woven into the shore and surrounding trees, grass and water. I didn't try the food, my friend said it was a bit expensive and made no mention of the quality but I suspect it's good. I guess the beer was above average -- 66kr for a San Miguel bottle. I always get tap beer so I'm actually a little thrown off on bottle prices. I think it was 120 for a Jim&Coke. That's a bit high but crap places like Debaser Strand charge the same. To me the experience of being out on the water, having a beer is worth the additional price. Of course you could just grab a beer and sit out on the rocks for 1/5 of the price but let's not go there... I'll return another night to try the food, or to lounge on a beautiful day, for sure!

Yelp
This floating restaurant/bar/lounge creates a magic atmosphere during summer nights. Although the sun disappears behind the trees they have some heaters for the frozen one. Prices are fair and service too. The way to go is probably to grab one bottle of their house Rose wine to share and then find a spot on the deck. But it can be pretty hard to find a spot on a nice day. Not very centrally located or close to a metro, but if you stroll by the water, its a perfect stop on the way. And if you have a boat, you can go here and dock right outside to make a fabulous entrance. Those who dont have a boat, do better off walking here. An all day venue which can cure both dehydration and cravings right on the water!

Yelp
Great bar out in the open air and situated on the lake. Great selection of drinks including local style cocktails. Friendly atmosphere and social place to hang out. Doesn't always stay open too late in the evenings and is closed during the winter, so make sure you are aware of the times!

Yelp
My cousin and I spent a wonderful evening here about four weeks ago. It was crazy busy, happy crowd, great selection of wines. We first got wine and sat out on the dock watching the water and.. watching the storm clouds gather and... ran for cover with the crowd when it started to seriously rain. It was fun, fun, fun, even though I lost a folding chair into the water when I stood up to move farther into shelter from the rain. No problem. We moved to a more sheltered table and selected our dinner entrees at the order window. We could not pass up the pastries at the order window so we decided to have dessert first - each of us with our own pastry - while we waited for our entrees. Perfect. I'd recommend this place to anyone and I'd go back this evening if I could.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped here twice while in stockholm during Sept 2014. both times had excellent glass of wine and wonderful raspberry pie. Great Location and great view.

Yelp
I was there for the first time last night. While standing at the bar waiting to be served some guy came up behind me and began rubbing my shoulders. Shocked at first I turned and told the guy to stop and take his hands off me which he did. I turned and faced the bartender and waited to be served. Again he put his hands on my shoulders. I looked at the bartender and while I was being assaulted I begged the bartender to do something. I said this guy keeps touching me can you please call security? He told the guy to stop. I looked at the bartender and asked him if this place thinks it's okay for people to touch others when told not to? He said no it's never okay. Yet he did nothing. He served me so I could go back to my seat and nothing happened to the guy who repeatedly assaulted me. I would never go back here and if I lived here I would contact the police and counsel to hold them accountable. Disgusting people patron this establishment and the bartender played a role in my assault. It ruined my time.

Yelp
Extremely unfriendly for people with kids. We sat down and ordered and were then told that we could not sit in the main part of the restaurant because our stroller was unsightly. The restaurant was far from full and we were surrounded by several vacant tables. The area we were told to sit was outside the restaurant on the path next to the main road. This was surprising since thus far, we'd found Stockholm to be a very child friendly city.

Yelp
Did not eat there, just passed by. This place is stunning. On the water, superbly designed .... next I come to Stockholm I ll definitely eat there !

Yelp
Enjoyed the great ambiance and quick service at Mälarpaviljongen today. The food was excellent with serving sizes that were neither too little, nor too much! I would recommend this place to anyone!

Yelp
Such an awesome place to have drinks or dinner! The restaurant is easy to find and has such great ambience being on the water. The bartender who took our order was super friendly and so was our server. The norrländsk röding was to die for. The mandelpotatispuré in butter that came with the dillstekt strömming was also perfection. If you've never been here before, here is how it works: you walk in and order at the front bar. You get a number flag and find someplace to sit. If you want water/ utensils/ napkins you must pick them up yourself at the dock bar. Not a problem, but just a little confusing if you've never been here. I will definitely be coming back for my next special dinner. :)

Yelp
Cannot get enough of Malarpaviljongen! We visited Stockholm in summer 2011 and again in 2012, and we hung out here with family and friends virtually every evening on both trips. The on-the-water setting, casual atmosphere, hospitable service, nice food, and great drinks were outstanding. If we lived in Stockholm, this would be our regular place.

Yelp
Excellent food. Walking distance from hotel, which recommended it when we arrived after a long trip. I had excellent salmon and my wife liked her meal too. Staff was friendly. Nice atmosphere but we were surprised to discover that it was mostly outside -- we sat in a pavilion that shielded us from the breeze. Would be an absolute delight on a sunny day.

Hanna M.

Yelp
Good food, wine list, and atmosphere. Floating on the pavilion on a sunny day is one of my favorite Stockholm activities.

Anthony L.

Yelp
Highly recommend - an awesome bar on the water with pretty good cocktails. If the weather is warm (certainly not a guarantee in sthlm), this place makes for a great afternoon or pre-dinner drink.

V M.

Yelp
Stockholm in summer is magical. Our last evening there was made even more charming at this beautiful bar, where you can sit so close to the water on a floating platform, that one little misstep could find you in the water. It's so close to the city, and yet could be in another world - A world where elves & gnomes live :)

Theo W.

Yelp
Was here on both my first day and last day in Stockholm. Very sweet restaurant partially floating on the water. They serve mostly Swedish food; I had the skagen and köttbullar and both were very good. servers are friendly, atmosphere is relaxed and upscale. This is a pricey place though, a dish and a beer will cost you around 240 Kronor (~$35).
