As you can tell by my profile, I generally decline to give negative reviews. But this is an expensive restaurant, and I think if you're paying $50-70 for an entree that you pay to have a certain type of experience, and this does not meet that mark. I also think if you have a special meal in mind for your vacation group, you should look elsewhere.
We all thought that the food was great, but it took more than 30 minutes after being seated to even get water and bread to the table. The restaurant was not very busy. Server was inattentive and very inexperienced, but nice. Service very slow; about 1:45 hours before the entrees were presented, and THEN the "appetizers " were presented thereafter. By then, the mood was sour.
As to the atmosphere, they had a keyboard vocalist, way too loud, and the acoustics in our private room were awful. Absolutely not conducive to dinner or conversation; in fact the noise level forced me to go outside for a "sonic break". Overall, i do not recommend Malcolm 51 for a larger group - they were clearly in over their heads.
