"Set in the heart of Kyoto, Malda has been attracting holiday-makers since opening in 2018. There are three rooms across three floors (each designed with a different colour in mind) and a smartly appointed café on the ground floor. Feel the warmth of the heated, polished-concrete floors as you kick back in the organic cotton roomwear provided and enjoy Malda’s signature breakfast, freshly cooked in the kitchen and brought to your room."

We came to Japan on a trip for our mom's birthday. I wasn't sure what to expect from Malda but it was beyond any expectations. My mom loved the hotel and everything about it. Location: it is in a great location where there is a train line that is easily accessible. Nishiki market is just an 8 minute walk and Gion is a 22 minute walk (if you are walking and exploring that is nothing). Breakfast: the meals were vegetarian and quite interesting. While I didn't always like all the sides given the hotel is always willing to get feedback and add more or less of what you like. It was a great way to start the morning trying delicious new foods (even if some weren't up my alley). Pajamas are provided. The rooms are the definition of spacious. It was like we had a whole loft to ourselves. The staff is so wonderful and helpful. I loved this hotel and would definitely go back.

My second stay in June 2024. It was as wonderful as ever. I love this place. This is not a 24 hour staffed hotel, it is best to let the staff know of you plan. Thank you again for fantastic stay. Stayed in the red room for 2 nights. It was a fabulous stay. The room is very spacious with heated floors. Every fiber, dishes are from Jurgen Lehl/Babaghuri shops. Make you realize what is missing in your home. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The location is excellent many nice shops in the vicinity, short walk to the subway station. The breakfast is breathtakingly nice. So many small dishes of goodies. Got two totally different meals during the stay. I can’t praise enough for this place. And this will be my go to hotel when I’m in Kyoto.

I was having an amazing time here until the poor service I received during check out. Let me say the rooms are beautiful and immaculately clean. I was super happy that I got to enjoy such a huge space to myself. But on my last day - I wanted to check out around 9.30 am and store my luggage so I could take a morning train to Enryaku-ji temple. There’s never anyone at the front desk, and good luck finding anyone at the cafe if it’s closed and locked. The days before, there was a very sweet woman at the cafe front desk who was very helpful, but she wasn’t there on this day. I tried calling the number they provided but no one spoke English. I was pretty frustrated because I couldn’t check out and would have to walk my bags to another hotel to have them hold the bags instead. As soon as I was walking out with my bags THEN a woman emerged from the cafe, and she seemed more concerned that I was trying to leave without checking out and settling my bill. That absolutely wasn’t my intent, I honestly couldn’t find anyone to help me with my checkout. She offered no apology, but did offer to hold my bags for me in the end. This experienced ended up making the end of my stay at Malda a bit bitter.

Stayed for three days during a trip through Japan and was blown away. The studios are spacious, elegant and well located. The breakfast service is bespoke and unbelievably good. We stayed in 5* hotels on our trip and would pick Malda over many of them. The staff are all welcoming and lovely and the cafe is also great.

Stayed in a gorgeous studio apartment in this lovely boutique hotel. Everything works in a practical sense but also the details are delightful. Japanese breakfast served in the room was quite an experience. Our stay was completely lovely in every respect! Thank you, lovely ladies.

This is such a lovely little hotel. There’s so much space , even a little kitchenette. Beautifully prepared veggie breakfast brought to your room each morning by such lovely staff. Can’t thank you enough!
