We stayed at the Malda Singular Barcelona for four nights, booked into the suite (that they told us at check-in was the best room in the hotel). We had a number of issues here.
To begin with, after we unpacked:
1) We discovered that the bathtub would not fill with water - it just emptied down the drain. My husband found a hotel worker who said that the seal was not working and needed to be fixed.
2) We then discovered that the seal at the bottom of the shower was also broken and came off when we opened the door, getting the floor all wet.
3) The air conditioner was not working properly. My husband checked the vent and there was a small amount of air coming through, but not enough to cool the room properly.
I found a receptionist and (nicely) asked her about these things. She said that she would "reset" the air conditioner. She also said that she would have the shower and tub fixed the next day. She asked if we wanted another room, but I explained that it would be disruptive - we had already unpacked and my husband was finishing some work to a deadline.
The next day came and went, nothing was fixed, no explanation. The a/c was not working any better. The receptionists were now quite unfriendly to us.
Additionally:
The suite we had was in a different part of the hotel from the other rooms, on the stairwell that leads to the mall below; it does not feel secure and the hallway is unattractive. The stairwell was hot, stuffy, and smelled of cigarettes from people smoking in the doorway below.
The sitting room is up some very steep stairs with very narrow treads. This is probably not up to code and is certainly not good for people who have mobility issues or vertigo. The room has very little natural light and feels like a basement den. There was a leak in the ceiling. This is not what we would have expected with an expensive suite.
In summary, while they offered to move us, I explained that it would have been disruptive. They should have fixed the issues as they said they would or at least given us some sort of explanation why it couldn’t be done and some sort of compensation.
My husband and I chose this hotel because we had stayed in the CoolRooms in Madrid and loved it there. We thought this experience would be similar but, sadly, it was nothing like it and came up very short. We would not recommend this hotel, nor will we return.
