This Caribbean Destination Has Bioluminescent Waters and Gorgeous, Uninhabited Islands — and It's a Short Flight From NYC

"Set on the island of Vieques is this truly boutique hotel with just 13 carefully appointed rooms, some with ocean views and private terraces. The property sits on a boardwalk overlooking the ocean within easy walking distance to beach bars, boutiques, and some of the island's best restaurants. After a daily complimentary breakfast, you can snorkel off the pier, head to the nearby black-sand beach, or simply put up your feet on the hotel's shaded terrace or fall asleep to the sound of the waterfall rushing into the outdoor pool." - Travel + Leisure Editors

My wife and I capped off our 9 day honeymoon in Puerto Rico with 2 nights at Malecón House. This stay was amazing! The hotel is situated at the end of the busy boardwalk and this end of the street was relatively quiet. The hotel staff was impeccable, full of local recommendations. Breakfast each morning was scrumptious and the coffee was strong and tasty. They provided beach chairs, beach umbrella, coolers and ice, and unlimited beach towels. We didn’t get to try the pool, but it looked nice! 4 ft deep all around so good for folks looking to lounge. We stayed in the Deluxe King room (room 6) and the natural light streaming in throughout the day and the ocean views were perfect. If you’re planning on spending some time on the balcony of this room, bring your bug spray! Overall, highly recommend. We’d stay here again! Original review posted on Google.

Google
Terrific spot directly across from the ocean and toward the “quiet” end of the Malecon boardwalk in Esperanza. Clean, comfortable space with a great setting surrounded by trees. The pool is fantastic to relax by and in after a long day of exploring. Our room #10 was great for our party of 3 with a separate bedroom and sitting room with daybed. And the balcony looked directly out to the ocean! A great place to read, relax with morning coffee or a happy hour cocktail.||The staff was exceptional and very helpful with info about the island and transportation options - even before our trip, they provided detailed recommendations to help make our trip the best. LouLou and Jodie were so friendly, pleasant and engaging-they truly want to make sure your experience is excellent. We were first time visitors to Vieques so needed as much intel as we could get!||Supplies provided included all the stuff you need (chairs, towels, coolers) for a fun day on the beach and it was all in great condition! ||Traveler tips: Coffee is provided with the complimentary breakfast, but for early risers like us who want coffee right away--there’s no coffeemaker in the room. For a caffeine fix earlier than 8 there are spots along the Malecon that open at 7 am, and Lydia’s grocery (a short walk) has brewed coffee and food supplies, opening at 7.||Also, the bathroom in our room wasn’t private enough for a “non-related” group-separated from the sitting area with just a louvered door. But, there is another bathroom on the ground floor that’s available for guests that is completely private. Our group made frequent use of it! Sometimes getting hot water in the shower was spotty-it was often just warm/tepid.

The hotel is very pretty and sits right across the ocean. The service was good, and the hotel was always clean. I really enjoyed the little pool. I do think their "continental breakfast" is not very continental as the options are limited. I'm not sure if that was because we visited during off season or not. The location is on the south side of the island, and on the same street as several restaurants. It was quiet while we visited, but I could imagine that street being busy during vacation season. Overall, we had a really great experience at this hotel.

Google
We had a fantastic stay at the Malecon House. Daphne and Jody made it the best! They gave us great advice on excursions and car rentals. The house is beautiful and clean. The view is outstanding! 10 out of 10 would recommend! A+++

Google
We had a lovely stay and must say that Jodie was a superstar who saved our trip. We had a scary experience with a VRBO and came to the hotel late at night. She fixed up the last room for us, staying after the time she was supposed to get off work, gave us dinner recommendations, and made my son’s bed up with little treats left for the kids. She was an angel. The manager was also warm and helpful. If you are traveling to Vieques, especially with children, I highly recommend staying here for its charm, location, cleanliness, safety, and fabulous staff.

Absolutely loved our stay at Malecon House! The rooms and grounds were fantastic, but we especially appreciated all the advice from Daphny. Can’t beat the location and the loaner of everything we needed for the beach made our day. 10/10

We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Malecon House on Vieques. It was a wonderful visit. The staff is excellent and quite helpful. Our rooms were great: 3 rooms on the 2nd floor with balconies. We rented two jeeps for the 7 of us and were able to walk to restaurants on the street but also drive to beaches and the Bio Bay night tour (we'd recommend). The hotel is in a perfect location. We would stay here again.

My husband and I had the BEST time at the Malecon house! Located close to everything on the strip, but not as loud as some of the other spots - it exceeded our expectations. Jodie was extremely welcoming and helped to give us suggestions that gave us the best trip. With having access to chairs, towels, coolers and snorkel gear made venturing around the island so enjoyable. We will be back!

Yelp
The best way to describe the Malecon House is "do it yourself concierge" service. They have everything you need, but you help yourself to it. What's better? They don't have anything you *don't* need on a tropical vacation: no TVs, no landline phones in the rooms. But coolers, chairs and towels for a day at the beach? Yes! Ice? Yup. Drinks and snacks? Uh huh. The staff were happy to offer recommendations for excursions, restaurants, beaches and to go the extra mile to help us when we had some car trouble. The rooms were clean, comfortable and just what we needed to relax our weary, wintery selves. With many places to stay around the island, Malecon House offers hospitality, comfort and walking distance to the restaurants in Esperanza. Yes, we're going back.

Yelp
This is probably the best hotel on the island. Right in Esperanza and walking distance from all of the restaurants, it's also right across from the beach. The staff gave us recommendations (beaches, restaurants, tours), hooked us up with beach chairs, a mini cooler with ice, towels, and an umbrella. The rooms were great, comfortable and had AC. The staff was super nice--let us stash our stuff there while we spend the last day at the beach. They served breakfast and coffee each morning (fruit, yogurt, baked items, tea, coffee). It also accepts families while many on island are 18+ so was fairly quiet and great for early risers. I'd definitely go back!!

Yelp
The rooms were great, clean and well air conditioned. The service was really amazing with a light breakfast in the morning. Christie (the manager) made sure everything was exactly right and even made sure we could use their beach chairs, towels and umbrellas all day after we checked out and then come back from the beach and clean up there. She's a real asset. Best on the island.

Knox K.

Yelp
Had an incredible two night stay here. The staff was amazing. The rooms were perfect. Right across the street from the beach, with daily, beautiful sunsets. The pool and morning breakfasts were also outstanding. Overall, could not recommend this place more. Can't wait to stay here again! Also, we forgot our keys to our rental car on the last day, and the staff stopped what they were doing and drove us to get them at their own inconvenience. Again, outstanding service!

Yelp
Dafney was so helpful and nice! We got the king ocean terrace room and it felt very private which I liked. It was a very comfortable stay. Breakfast in the morning was really nice because we went during NYE weekend and not many restaurants were open. Loved the coffee and fruit, yogurt, and banana bread. AC worked well, bathroom was nice. They also provide ice buckets/boxes and beach chairs and towels which is nice. wifi was slow, but internet was slow on the entire island. Overall a very nice experience.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Kristy and the whole team made us feel so welcome and cared for. They arranged everything we needed - transportation, reservations, connections with local tour companies - there was nothing that wasn't automatically taken care of with warmth, kindness and absolute professionalism. Everything was spotlessly clean and we felt completely safe and cared for during our entire weeklong stay. If you want a place to get away from it all and completely relax without a care in the world, this is it!

Jesus M.

Yelp
Amazing weekend in Vieques and this hotel was awesome. Kristy and her team go out of the way to make sure the guests are well taken care of. This place is also in the best part of the island. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
We truly enjoyed our stay at Malecon House. We were there for 2 nights while visiting Vieques, and I wish we had booked 1 more night. It's a gem of a spot and I can't wait to go back. To start, I booked 2 rooms on Expedia after researching where on the island we wanted to stay. When we were at the airport waiting on our connecting flight from San Juan, I received a call from the hotel, and immediately panicked. Usually, a phone call means you've lost your room or some other kind of catastrophe. Nope, they were just calling to make sure we knew where we were going and to see when we would be getting in. When we pulled up to the strip the Malecon is located on, the building stood out. Ultra modern, and quite frankly, the fanciest looking building in the area. Think South Beach boutique vibe. Check in was a breeze, and our guy (wish I had his name, he was awesome throughout the stay) gave us a tour and showed us to our rooms. The pool was a lot of fun to hang at. It's not a huge resort-style pool, but we really enjoyed lounging around and relaxing. There are also various courtyards to hang out and soak up some sun. We had rooms 3 and 4, which are located on the first floor (the rooms upstairs looked like they have an awesome balcony overlooking the water, fyi). Room 3 was perfect- we had a little sofa in the corner, and a pretty spacious bathroom compared to Room 4. Everything was clean and our air conditioner was on and running- who'd think you would be COLD in Puerto Rico?! The location of this hotel is great. We were on a strip with other hotels and bars and restaurants so we were able to walk to dinner and drinks. Across the street is a little boardwalk area with benches so you can look out to the water. We even had a little grocery type store a couple blocks away to pick up the essentials (waters, sunscreen, rum). Breakfast is served in the front courtyard area, and consisted of yummy scones that were still warm, fruit (the best mango ever!), yogurt, cereals. Not a huge breakfast, but definitely something to get you by until lunch. We ended up renting a jeep, and parking overnight was no issue. Our front desk guy was really helpful and pointed out beaches to check out and gave us all sorts of good information. Oh, and we were able to borrow beach chairs and boogie boards for the beach! Score! I even saw a few pieces of snorkel equipment. This was a great experience, I don't know that we would want to chance staying anywhere else on our next visit to Vieques.

Yelp
Another visit and another wonderful experiences. Thank you, Marsha and Robin! The gardens look wonderful, lots of flowers blooming all over the place. Love the secluded loungers in an alcove of plants for shade.

Yelp
Amazing little boutique hotel, its quiet and we felt pretty safe there. The breakfast buffet included fresh fruits and cakes made by the bananas in their backyard. The rooms look amazing and clean. The pool looks amazing and the staff was nice too. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Just returned from a 7 night stay here with my boyfriend and had a great time. He had gone to Vieques once before and stayed at Tradewinds next door, but this time he decided to spend a little more and it was worth it. Marsha and Robin were great! Very friendly and helpful. Any time we had a question (car rental, restaurant suggestions/reservations) Marsha was very helpful - she even called and set some of the reservations for us! As others mentioned the rooms were pretty sparsely decorated but if you're in Vieques, you shouldn't be spending most of your time in the room anyway. Rooms were cute and clean and pretty quiet although from time to time you could hear people running the shower in other rooms. Tenants were mostly families or couples it seemed. Everyone was polite and let you have your own space. The breakfast was simple but if you got there on time (close to 8 am), the muffins were still warm (yum)! Cute but small pool. Only swam in it once since we were at the beach everyday, but it's still nice to know it's there. I'm a big fan of the landscaping. So many beautiful plants and flowers fill the property creating a beautiful and serene escape from the busy main strip. There's a cute little boutique downstairs across the hall from where you check in. Lots of cute beachy styles, some at great prices! We would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Quite simply the nicest stay we've had in Puerto Rico. Fantastic location right on the boardwalk in Esperanza. Spotlessly clean, with a lush garden, and a beautiful although small pool. The rooms were clean , well-appointed, and tastefully decorated. The highlight of the state was the hospitality and warmth shown by all the house staff, but especially by Fred the owner . He went out of his way to make us comfortable and ensure that we had everything we needed. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
"Fraud! Owners pay for good reviews" - I read from a review Well I wish they would pay me for what I'm about to do.....Stay here! You will not regret it at all! Simply from the reaction of other people I met on the island when saying I was at the Malecón House. "Wow that place is really nice". Indeed it was. They were supposed to arrive Tuesday afternoon; however, due to Cape Air cancelling our flight (read CapeAir review for more details), we arrive a few minutes after 6pm. They were super understanding and patient which I really appreciated (of course I updated them about our flight changes & such). We stayed in the "Alegre" room. It was perfect for us and the AC was blasting as soon as we opened the door. The room look exactly like the pictures on the website, possibly better. It had two beds, a mini fridge, a safe, a private bathroom, a fan & an ac. The pool was beautiful. The breakfast was good, it had the basics (fruit, cereal, parfait items, juice & coffees) and muffins/scones depending on the day you would get either one, this definitely kept us good until lunch. They provided beach essentials (chairs, scuba gear, sun block & mosquito repellent). There were a few geckos around, but they didn't get to crazy. The dog was cute, he minded his own business because I'm sure had better things to do than to have me want to be his friend. The owners were super friendly and sunny, making jokes and small talk. Everyone that worked here was attentive and accommodating. My sister left her charger, so if you stay here and they have an iPhone charger, you're welcome. I would 100% stay here again if I come back to Vieques! Also, its pronounced "male" (like the gender) "con" (like CONgrats you're staying here).

Yelp
Y'all, I have never met a more sweet and welcoming staff - they make you feel so at home. The grounds are so cute, even has a pool to enjoy! You can tell they love what they do, and keep everything clean and nice looking. Breakfast in the morning was small, but was good enough to get our belly's full! We didn't spend enough time in Vieques to enjoy all this place has to offer - but totally will come back for longer!

Yelp
We stayed here around Valentine's Day and it was wonderful. We stayed in Mar Azul on the front of the building with the nice big balcony. Getting that balcony was worth it, because we really did sit out there a lot. It was secure for our infant son too. We were very surprised how modern and fresh the construction seemed to be. The restaurants nearby look extremely weathered, so Malecon House's fresh finishes were a pleasant surprise. The breakfast worked really well for us every day and it seemed that way for everyone staying at the property. We brought our 11 month old baby and it was always simple to find things for him to eat from the buffet. The pool is super chic and great for taking photos but was quite cold in rainy Feb. The views are beautiful and it's true that a swimmable beach is probably a pretty far walk. It was a very convenient spot on the island to use our rental Jeep to drive to all the beautiful beaches. Parking at Malecon House seemed very safe and secure. The street noise was only loud a little bit on Saturday night. The only thing that would have improved my stay would have been a radio or iPod docking station for some background noise. Having no television was refreshing but the quiet got on my nerves a little bit.

Yelp
What can i say... This place is beautiful! I wanted to do the Bio Bay tour so i had to spend the night. Im glad the manager at The Malecon House allowed is to stay one night even though they usually have a 2 night minimum. The rooms were absolutely top notch! They also provides a continental breakfast which was also pretty darn good. Overall, i would definitely recommend this place if you decide to stay in Vieques.

Yelp
Malecon House is an absolute gem! The property is beautiful, the staff terrific and the room was stunning. My husband & I visited in November 2019 for our honeymoon. We loved everything about Vieques and it is clear the Malecon House is the best boutique accommodations on the island. We stayed in room 11 & enjoyed views of the Carribean Sea from both the four-poster bed and our private patio. The entire property was impeccably clean and each day we can back to a spotless room. There were also tons of awesome extra amenities - such as an 'honor bar' where you could purchase drinks and snacks 24 hours a day, a glorious pool that was perfect for cooling off after a day at the beach, laundry service and tons of towels/beach gear to use. Each and every staff member we came into contact with was truly lovely. Though it was technically off-season, there were still plenty of restaurants open (without the crowds & with more opening every night of our 4-night stay) and the weather was perfect. I highly recommend staying here!

Yelp
We had a 2 night stay here and wish we would have stayed for longer. Marsha was very welcoming and gave us a brief tour of the place when we arrived. She had excellent suggestions for activities and even called and made reservations for biobay and horseback riding for us! The beach is directly across the street, but that beach is not suitable for swimming. You only have to walk a few hundred feet down to a swimmable beach. We also swam from the dock to the island across and found some excellent snorkelling at the recommendation of Marsha. We walked to Black sand beach, quite a hike (would consider driving there!) but definitely a difference experience worth checking out. Biobay tour is a must. The continental breakfast is excellent, homemade muffins, freshfruits, cereal, nice coffee and tea on the beautiful patio. The pool was very refreshing and perfect for us, although could get crowded with more than 2 groups of people. Beautiful view from the roof. Ask Marsha for rest recommendations - We ate at Sol's food truck on the way to Isabel II, Bili right on the esperanza strip, Belly buttons mexican night all excellent food. There are fridges in the room for waters and beverages which i would recommend. She has coolers and beach chairs to use as well.
google avatar

Tim H.

Yelp
Great location in Esperanza, clean rooms, Marsha is very friendly with making any booking arrangements and giving information. I would stay here again. My only complaint staying here was the roosters from neighbors kept waking me up at 5:30AM. Not the fault of here though.
google avatar

Yelp
Malecon House was not only a comfortable place to stay, but the people there made our stay so much better. We rented a jeep from Maritza's, and the staff told us that they would pick us up from Malecon House and then drop us off at the airport, saving us the taxi headache and cost. Breakfast was delicious and fresh each morning, and the coolers and chairs were exactly what we needed for the beach. It's close to some really great restaurants, and just a short drive from others. (Though definitely worth renting a car for the beaches.) We stayed in the Fantastico room, and the view really was worth it. Only downside for us was that the internet went out for a half-day. It was good quality when it was up though.

Justin T.

Yelp
What a perfect getaway location. Freshly painted, nicely appointed room, beautiful common areas and ocean views. The breakfast is fresh and plentiful, the staff is friendly and helpful. It took a whole day to realize my favorite part of the room: no TV. Who needs it? You are in paradise! This is the first and last place you need to consider for your stay.
google avatar

Christopher T.

Yelp
Great location and great staff. Everyone is really friendly and goes out of their way to make your stay the best possible. Place is very clean and for being off the main road the noise isn't that bad.

Manish G.

Yelp
Amazing hotel. Right on the ocean front with amazing views and close to great restaurants. the staff is amazing. Hayley especially is super helpful. We would defi stay at this hotel if we ever return to Vieques. Mde our trip special.

Yelp
This place is great. Marsha and her husband are there for anything you need. Wonderfully situated next to a great restaurant and just down the road from a couple really fun bars. Quiet and peaceful. Would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for some peace and quiet. Pool is small but the ocean is 10 steps away.

Steve M.

Yelp
The location was great, the rooms were clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the pool and they provided coolers, chairs and umbrellas. The service was excellent. Definately would stay there again!

Yelp
Out of the many places that we stayed over the course of our trip and keeping in mind that everything is relative.... - nicest rooms (spacious, extremely effective air conditioners, beautiful decor) - comfortable sheets and soft-ish beds for those of us more picky about such things (ask the proprietor...she knows the bed "softness" in each room!) - provided great shampoo and conditioner (didn't think I would ever have to specify that, but we stayed some places that did not provide toiletries of any kind) - most beautiful location...walk out, directly across from the gorgeous beach - most convenient location ... beach, obviously steps away, but there are also fabulous restaurants, scooter/bike/kayak/etc rentals within a couple blocks...always something to do! - delicious breakfast ... continental/tropical blend of items (yogurt and granola, fruit, pastries, cereal) with coffee, great way to start the day - really accommodating management...knowledgeable about area... willing to go out of her way to help us with arrangements, keep our luggage after checkout time so we could explore unencumbered...show up after hours when we had questions and locked ourselves out, etc - They also offered items (like beach towels) to help make our outings more convenient Things to note: - as stated in other reviews, there are no TVs so bring a book, or download something to watch onto your laptop/phone because... - technically there is wifi. But actually connecting to it is a bit of a coin toss, and if one can connect the speed varies from functional to can't-tell-there-is-a-connection. Seems to vary a lot depending on which room one is trying to connect from...and the occasional outages appear to be an island wide issue (not necessarily Malecon House specific). - Initially, the rooms can catch some noise due to proximity to bars/restaurants, however the noise did dissipate before we actually had to sleep, so it didn't turn out to be an issue Other than hoping for a tv and better wifi, a 5 star stay...looking forward to returning in the future!

Yelp
I read a terrible review below, saying that the good reviews were bought. That can't be true. We had a great experience here, as I'm sure many other people have! My only regret is that we didn't stay on this island longer. There is so much to do, and the Malecon House was the absolute perfect place to stay. Our room and the rest of the hotel was incredibly clean and welcoming. The bed was comfortable, and having a fridge in the room was very convenient. There was no TV or radio in the room, but we didn't spend much time in there anyway. The pool is small but beautiful. The breakfast was also small, but there was plenty there for us to fill up on until lunch. The home made baked items were still warm and SO GOOD! The location was prefect for walking to the bars and restaurants in the area. We rented a jeep to drive around to the different beaches and parking was no problem. I'm glad we chose this hotel, because it ended up being close to just about everything we wanted to do. If I ever get back to Vieques (and I really hope I do!), I will most definitely stay at the Malecon House again.

Shereen A.

Yelp
I don't usually write reviews but this was such a great experience I wanted to comment. The couple who owns this went above and beyond. We stayed a night and didn't pack a bag they took great care in getting a few items for us and were so friendly and nice the room was updated and very clean! Loved it!

Yelp
My friend and I stayed at Malecon House for 3 nights. The owners, Marsha and Robin, were very kind and helped us figure out what fun/interesting things to do on the island. They also helped us book a last minute Bio Bay tour. The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. Whenever anyone on the island would ask where we were staying and we said Malecon House, they immediately talked about what a great place it was.

Elyse M.

Yelp
I cannot say enough nice things about Marsha, Robin, their dog Coqui, and the wonderful accommodations at Malecon House! Four friends and I (all ladies in our midtwenties) made reservations there for the last three nights of our San Juan-Culebra-Vieques tour. Marsha greeted us as we drove in (there is a gate enclosing the property to keep the wild horses out of the garden) and gave us suggestions for lunch after we got settled. The staff also gave us suggestions when we said we wanted to make spa appointments. All around, they could not be nicer or more helpful. The rooms: Spacious, with excellent air-conditioning, very comfortable beds, soft linens, beaucoup hot water, good water pressure. There are no TVs, but you won't want one on Vieques. The provided toiletries were nice too. They also provide beach towels, which was a wonderful bonus. The breakfast: Fresh scones and yogurt with fruit and granola toppings, coffee, tea, juice. You can sit in the lovely garden and watch hummingbirds zip around the flowers. The pool: AMAZING! There is a saltwater lap pool with beautiful fountains and a nice deck area for sunning in the middle of the side garden. Extras: They have coolers, water toys, and some snorkel gear for guests to use, first come first serve. They have bug spray and sunscreen for guests too, and there is an ice machine. The location: Convenient to all the restaurants and shops in Esperanza, with a five-star view of the green, green water! Beautiful. See if you can get a front room with a porch. There are refrigerators on the porch, so it's perfect for enjoying the evening outside. I also have to say a big thank you to Marsha for hosting us for an extra, unplanned night due to a tropical storm on the day my group was scheduled to fly out. Marsha allowed us to keep our same room and had everything all set for us by the time we got back from the airport. She even helped us find an open restaurant for food and offered to give us a ride if we got stuck out in the rain. You can't find nicer hosts.

Alex P.

Yelp
Really disappointed. The reviews were so positive ! Maybe I am picky but I booked the most expensive room ( around $300) and at this price (decent) you have (small) expectations. The + : - the place is very clean, - the staff is polite - the pool is not too small for such a small hotel (you can almost swim) - walking distance from a nice beach (15 minutes) - close to the restaurants The - : - obviously overpriced - cheap decoration and furniture (even cheap soap) - very cheap breakfast (included) - small garden and 4 long chairs around the pool In a few words : a nice and clean bed and breakfast for the price of a boutique hotel. Don't go there if you expect luxury vacations. Maybe for backpackers

Michelle L.

Yelp
Malecon House is stunning and located right on the "boardwalk" in the small town of Esperanza, Vieques. Malecon House has lush gardens surrounding it, only adding to its beauty. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here - between the continental breakfast in the mornings to the friendly staff and absolutely gorgeous stay rooms, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Esperanza! There's plenty of parking if you have a rental car, and there are even beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, and coolers you can borrow for the day. The hotel is also within walking distance (15 min) to one of the larger beaches on the southern coast of Vieques, Balneario Sun Bay.

Gopi K.

Yelp
Awesome and best hotel I have ever being!! Kudos to the owners!!! Today, the local transportation weren't running and the owner himself picked us from the airport. Had a wonderful chat with him. I will come again here for sure!! Love this place. Kudoossss

Yelp
Beautiful hotel run by a great couple who were very friendly and welcoming. We arrived just in time for dinner, and Marsha suggested an amazing restaurant and called to make us a reservation. The grounds are lovely as well, and the location could not be more ideal when staying in Esperanza. We would definitely stay there again.

Yelp
I could not say enough wonderful things about Malecon House. A perfect location, with incredible views of the water. in walking distance to restaurants, bars, snorkeling, kayaking, Spanish food trucks, & the public beach. The property is impeccably maintained - a tranquil pool, beautiful, lush native flora, & peaceful, simple decor that is relaxing & uncomplicated. The owners are accommodating & helpful, & seem to have a good repoire w/ other island businesses. They kindly stored our luggage & provided a place to change for the beach before check-in. The continental breakfast was simple, healthy & delicious. Great local coffee! A huge positive was their eco-friendly roof solar panels. This low-key, welcoming, unpretentious place defines what Vieques represents. (Thankfully there is only one large resort on the island to keep the typical mainstream tourists on the mainland). The only negative was not being able to stay longer!

Yelp
Top notch service and what a treat in terms of the building an the room. Compared to most of the lodging options on Vieques, this place was a true find. The owners were wonderfully accommodating. My wife and I were a couple of the few guests staying there during the offseason, but the cleanliness and service made it seem like they were putting forward their best foot each day. It's obvious that they really care about what their customers think. Will definitely visit again. Can't beat the views and location either.

Yelp
Fraud! Owners pay for good reviews. The worst service ever! Very rude and unprofessional owners that live on the property and watch every your step. Place is very small, rooms and bathrooms are tiny. Nothing in the room except a bed and a tiny refrigerator. No hairdryer, no iron, no t/v, no wifi in a room, no phone, nothing. Cheap quality furniture and mattress which is very uncomfortable. Did I mention about breakfast?! It's a joke! You can find a better FREE breakfast at 2 star hotel that will cost you five times less money for a room. It doesn't worth a penny for that kind of service and attitude! Pool is a size a little bigger than a bathtub and it could barely fit 2 people in it! Forget about swimming. And you can not swim at the beach that close to the property. Tourists stay away! Don't be fooled by all the good reviews that are being paid by the owners!

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at the Malecon house for our honeymoon, and we were glad that we did. Everything is top notch. The grounds are beautiful, the staff and owners are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are tastefully done in a kind of minimalist-modern style (ask for the Buena Vista, it's great). The location is perfect, located just at the end of Calle Flamboyan, looking out onto the Caribbean. Good restaurants (El Quenepo, Trade Winds, etc.) are only a short stroll away, as are a number of quaint beer shacks (Lazy Jacks, Belly Buttons). I could keep going, but really the 5 star rating says it all. This place is a gem.

Yelp
The Malecon House is a wonderful place to stay in Vieques. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The location is ideal, along a main street with many restaurants and bars. Marsha (one of the owners) went completely out of the way for us. She took care of all of our scheduling worries (taxi, coordinating our tour, helping us get around) and did it all without us even asking her to help- it clearly meant a lot to her that we enjoyed our stay and that everything went smoothly. The continental breakfast hit the spot in the mornings- and there is a pleasant outside eating area to enjoy it in. The pool you see in the photos is so refreshing and relaxing; the waterfall gives it a zen like feel and appearance. If you are looking for a luxurious hotel experience, this is not the place, but for amazing service, comfort, cleanliness and a great location, I can't recommend this place enough.
