We truly enjoyed our stay at Malecon House. We were there for 2 nights while visiting Vieques, and I wish we had booked 1 more night. It's a gem of a spot and I can't wait to go back.
To start, I booked 2 rooms on Expedia after researching where on the island we wanted to stay. When we were at the airport waiting on our connecting flight from San Juan, I received a call from the hotel, and immediately panicked. Usually, a phone call means you've lost your room or some other kind of catastrophe. Nope, they were just calling to make sure we knew where we were going and to see when we would be getting in.
When we pulled up to the strip the Malecon is located on, the building stood out. Ultra modern, and quite frankly, the fanciest looking building in the area. Think South Beach boutique vibe.
Check in was a breeze, and our guy (wish I had his name, he was awesome throughout the stay) gave us a tour and showed us to our rooms. The pool was a lot of fun to hang at. It's not a huge resort-style pool, but we really enjoyed lounging around and relaxing. There are also various courtyards to hang out and soak up some sun.
We had rooms 3 and 4, which are located on the first floor (the rooms upstairs looked like they have an awesome balcony overlooking the water, fyi). Room 3 was perfect- we had a little sofa in the corner, and a pretty spacious bathroom compared to Room 4. Everything was clean and our air conditioner was on and running- who'd think you would be COLD in Puerto Rico?!
The location of this hotel is great. We were on a strip with other hotels and bars and restaurants so we were able to walk to dinner and drinks. Across the street is a little boardwalk area with benches so you can look out to the water. We even had a little grocery type store a couple blocks away to pick up the essentials (waters, sunscreen, rum).
Breakfast is served in the front courtyard area, and consisted of yummy scones that were still warm, fruit (the best mango ever!), yogurt, cereals. Not a huge breakfast, but definitely something to get you by until lunch.
We ended up renting a jeep, and parking overnight was no issue. Our front desk guy was really helpful and pointed out beaches to check out and gave us all sorts of good information.
Oh, and we were able to borrow beach chairs and boogie boards for the beach! Score! I even saw a few pieces of snorkel equipment.
This was a great experience, I don't know that we would want to chance staying anywhere else on our next visit to Vieques.
