Fun! Rose all day. This winery has only rose. They serve a 4 flight tasting for $25. Fun experience. Who knew roses could be so different. Outdoor experience out of an airstream. Only restrooms are portables.

Andrea Santos

Google
such a fun time, must go on a girls day!! the rose’s were fantastic and the atmosphere was amazing. all of the servers were around my age and they took the snobbiness out of the event. couldn’t recommended this place any more!

Google
Great secret spot! From the (superb) rosé to the green and orange scenery, it’s a wonderful place to create unforgettable memories.

Google
Showed up without a reservation, so we were not able to do a tasting. It’s typical for wineries around the area, they are not very efficient at serving (I worked in the service industry: each server should be able to handle at least 5 tables, but thats another issue.) anyway, the bad review reflects the fact that the wanted to charge us a $25 table fee so that we could then buy a $50+ bottle of wine and sit at one of the MANY empty picnic tables. While explaining it they literally said “like at a club” — problem is your not a club, you are a trailer and a patch of grass.

Google
Great location and a really cool layout. The airstream concept as a tasting room is definitely something I can get behind. Great area to play Cornhole, badminton, or just play on the grass. That being said this is basically for "the gram" or whatever social media. The tragedy is that you are surrounded by beautiful vineyards, yet none of them contribute to the wine. All of the wine is actually from out of county. The tasting price is steep for what it is, but the experience is probably worth it. Wines themselves aren't worth stopping for. We actually saw several people come just for the photo op and leave. It's a good marketing strategy and fun place, but the wines are mediocre at best. If you want a fun stop while wine tasting in Edna valley then swing by, otherwise just keep going.

Wow Nathan Delaney, you’re a local guide and you post a review like this? Do you even like wine? Malene Wines are delicious and fairly priced for a small production winery. Everything from their white Rolle, to their various Roses, to their Grenache Noir, is delicious. I’m a very happy Wine Club member!

Google
A wonderful spot with amazing offerings. Our server William was fantastic. He is extremely knowledgeable about the Malene wines, regional wines, and wine in general.

Google
A fun outdoors tasting " room" almost exclusively for Rose. A nice selection. Mostly Thursday through Sunday. Nicely laid back vibe and attentive service.

Yelp
Very cute spot! It's like a sliver of easy-going paradise amongst so many big fancy wineries. Malene does all rose's. Don't come looking for anything else, because that's not what they do. Just rose! If you're looking for equally good wines but of the Pinot and Chard variety head about 500 ft down the road and visit their sister winery, Chamisal. We made reservations online a few days before our quick Saturday trip. I'd recommend reserving as far ahead as possible, they do tend to book up quickly. Service was spectacular and friendly, and they doted on our beagle Jackson. The space is absolutely the cutest and would be the perfect spot for a girls weekend. Note that they don't have any indoor areas, it's all outdoors. Their restrooms are very nice flushing porta-potties with running water. But know all this before visiting. We enjoyed our visit so much we became wine club members. And honestly, if you're paying $25 per tasting you might as well join the club as it's about $150 a shipment. We can't wait to see what Malene does for the future!

Yelp
Did a self-guided wine tasting here on a Saturday afternoon. I did not have a reservation but they were able to fit us in. Like others have mentioned, all the wines here are rose. Lucky for me, I like rose! All seating is outside but the weather was a perfect 75 in July. Great customer service from the gals working.

Yelp
This was my third and last visit to this "tasting room". I went with four friends today to celebrate a birthday and this was the bummer stop of the day. It was hot and there is very little shade. We sat at metal tables, with metal chairs in the dirt. We had to all cram around to try and get shade under an umbrella. Sitting in the Airstream is no longer an option. The owners need to invest in some better shade options and more comfortable chairs. It is ridiculous. The servers were polite but not friendly. They did the bare minimum. The restroom is STILL an outhouse at the back of the dirt parking lot...not a pleasant experience when it is 90 degrees. And to top it off, they don't waive the tasting fees any longer if you buy a bottle! So you get to spend $25 on a tasting fee plus $22-$45 for a bottle to sit in the dirt in metal chairs under tiny umbrellas... No thank you! This place thinks it is cute and unique but there are much better places to go that are comfortable and waive tasting fees.

Yelp
This place is outstanding. We finally put two into together and realize that this is also part of the Chamisal winery. Due to Covid, we made a reservation first on their online portal. The visit was going to be outside as well. I believe we had to pay 20 or $25 for the reservation. It was for two people, and since I don't drink and I was the driver my hubs did the tasting. They credit back the reservation tasting if you purchased wine at their location. It's quite beautiful area with comfortable seating throughout a grand lawn period. Several people had brought small picnics, snacks etc. which is allowed. There is a larger grassy area which had some families that were picnicking with kids running around. We asked about it and were told that they really shouldn't be running around or mingling so close together and that in the future they're going to allow more people but enforce the the social distancing between them. We enjoyed I believe five wines that varied and taste in color. Our host, female with long brown hair was super friendly, helpful and just a real joy to have during this experience. I think we would be better prepared next time and bring some cheese and meats, crackers and maybe even some little desserts as they do not sell food here currently. We left with two bottles of wine. Just a quick note, the visit was in late October, we did bring a blanket but definitely dress for weather. There is no actual restroom with plumbing. There is a better than average out house towards the parking lot so keep that in mind. And I believe dogs are also welcome. It's just a really great experience, definitely some Insta worthy photography there and just a nice relaxed atmosphere. Not pretentious at all. I would definitely go back

Yelp
Malene Wines is a pocket tasting room in an Airstream Trailer in the San Luis Obispo area. It is VERY easy to drive right past the place - watch for the address and the sign advertising "Rose All Day." There is a substantial dirt parking lot as well as lots of patio furniture seating by a green lawn with cornhole. If lucky, you might snag a sofa seat in the trailer. The wine stewards are hipster girls who are a bit too cool for school but surprisingly knowledgeable when you get them talking about the wine. The winery is managed by a French gentlemen who definitely knows what he is talking about. For a recent tasting ($20 per person but comp if you buy enough wine), there were four roses, a white and a red. All of the wines were eminently drinkable and the roses reflected four differing styles. I enjoyed my time at this little spot, which feels like a real hidden gem.

Yelp
A big waste of time and money. It's an air streamer with bad wine. Plus they are very badly organized

Yelp
All things about this winery give the impression of an amazing experience...the welcoming entry...pink flamingos...airstream...sweet outdoor area, but then you get hit with a $25 service fee for purchasing a bottle of wine or a glass of wine and all thoughts of "rose all day" turn sour. So for their cheapest bottle which is $22 you end up paying $52 with the service fee and tax.... My question is "service" for what?! They open a bottle and put it in the chiller and you sit at one of their tables. Doesn't make sense. It's like paying a $25 service fee at a restaurant to use one of their tables to eat your food. Super disappointing. Won't be back.

Yelp
Enjoyed a wine & work team building afternoon at the lovely Malene property. Relaxing atmosphere with music, fun pink flamingos and tasty crisp wines. Outstanding service by Brooke and Andrea. Thank you for a memorable experience. We'll be back!

Yelp
Such a gorgeous place ! The airstream, the many hints of millennial pink, the lush green mountainside. Malene is a tiny oasis in SLO. so hard to find good fruit-forward rosés here but they've done a great job. Will is so friendly and sweet. We had a great time chatting with him and learning more about the history. He surprised us with some Vermentine at the end , which had a very mineral taste, as a contrast to the fruit forward wines. We ended up leaving with three bottles of it because it was that good - ask to sample it !

Yelp
A must if you love Rose wine and being out in the open to lay in the grass and be in a vineyard! We love coming here, my family has a dog and they are pet friendly and embrace you coming with your cheese platter and picnic blanket.

Yelp
I must've driven past this spot a million times and never even knew about it because there's no visible signage from Orcutt Road. Today Malene hosted an awesome little makers' market. It was fairly small but provided just enough vendors to make it fun yet somewhat intimate. Their rose is pleasant and there are a few tables to enjoy as picnic area. The wine tasting/selling is all done from a super hip looking airstream. I think this spot definitely caters to the 20-something crowd. Not a bad place to stop in for a glass of rose and enjoy some sunshine.

Yelp
One of our favorite wines and wine experiences in the Edna Valley. William, Brooke and team are amazing and we love the Rose all day experience. If you are in the area, and want a unique wine experience, go all the with this Rose experience, you won't regret it.

Yelp
Love the airstream concept... it is a unique take on a tasting room. This is the epitome of a business taking it to the next level, which is BTW Instagram worthy! I can't wait to come back. The rose and Grenache wines are so delicious ... it's like #roseallday to the max! If you want a delicious wine, adorable setting and photo worthy scene - come here! It's all around 5 stars!!!

Yelp
This was such a fun find. They have an airstream in this random space next to Chamisal. Serve delicious rosé and are the sweetest people. Got a bottle and shared among 4 friends. So much fun!

Yelp
I'm such a fan of the Malene Scene. Most wineries you visit now a-days have some version of a Rose. Malene focuses on Rose, so it's not an afterthought, it's an emphasis. The wine making team at Malene puts their efforts into not only making a Rose in the classic Provence style, put enhancing it to make premium Roses. And the vibe at Malene is fun. This isn't your grandparents winery. Well maybe if your grandparents are hip. They serve out of a vintage airstream trailer. They have a large picnic area where you will find a lot of young families picnicking on the weekends. If you're not a fan of Rose, do yourself a favor and try Malene. This is what they do, this is what they are known for. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Malene winery is a very nice winery and the Rose is very tasty, Barbara was an excellent server, you get a chance to visit the winery, I would request Barbara as your server. Bill Chan

Yelp
Went wine tasting with my wife and we showed up and we're the only ones there. They wanted to charge $25 as a service fee to purchase and drink a bottle of wine. We left and won't be back. What a shame as we have had a great experience here before.

Yelp
I have been going to Malene/Chamisal for years and always enjoyed it. However, my last visit was an exception. We had good wine and our server Taylor was great. The only thing is, their system is so weird. I admit, this is partially my fault for not realizing this sooner, but I still think it is not customer friendly. You can make two reservations, one for tasting and one for what they call the "flamingo field" where you can buy bottles. I did the latter. You are seated at a wooden picnic table in a grass lawn and given plastic wine glasses. You can have up to six guests, and there is a minimum wine bottle purchase per person. Even after all that, they still charge you a $50 service fee: regardless of if you buy any amount of bottles, and we left a tip as well. A service fee for a wood table, and plastic glasses? Just isn't worth it. If you do a tasting, and enjoyed something, you cannot order a glass or bottle of it, and cannot move to the flamingo field to do so. It is strictly one or the other. I understand Covid changed the game, but this is entirely outdoor, surely they could be a bit flexible. Also, there are only port a potties. So, in essence, avoid the flamingo field unless you personally think $50 plus tip is worth it for port a pots, and picnic wine.

Yelp
To wine taste costs $25 a person to try 4 wines. The pours are extremely small as well. 3 of us tasted and we bought 4 bottles of wine at the end. None of the tasting costs were waived after buying 4 bottles!! Will not be returning.

Yelp
WOW! Now, I am a huge fan of Chamisal and when they directed me towards Malene, I was not disappointed. I am a huge rose fan, and drinking it from an air steam was the cherry on top. We bought one of every bottle and we definitely will be back. They guy who helped up was....French? 1. He knew what he was talking about and 2. I could listen to his pronunciations ALL DAY (don't worry, even my DH was drooling!) Keep it up guys, you have forever business with us!
google avatar

Matthew E.

Yelp
If you want to have a good time, request for a Wendy Peppercorn. While being extremely confident in her knowledge of their wines, complimenting herself about her looks and nationality and also making fun of an off season Steve Aoki's body all with a perfect smile, she really makes it complete. Thank you for making the journey memorable and being part of "The Experience". PS. Ask for the red lipstick special

Yelp
Oh so much fun with Will - what a great spot and some great Rose' Hanging in the airstream playing some cornhole. -great way to finish our day of wine tasting !!! If you get a chance stop by and ask Will to educate on French wines -

Yelp
My family and I came to Malene and had an amazing time! Daniela helped us out and did an amazing job making sure we were all comfortable and enjoying everything! I highly recommend coming here, especially if you love good rosé's!

Yelp
Gorgeous place. Great service and really good wines. "Rosé all day" can seem catered to the bachelorette party crowd, but this was a very quiet, lovely experience. Tasting rosés one after another is really interesting. Seating area with volleyball net and cornhole is perfect for a picnic. Highly recommended for both basic and non-basic betches.

Yelp
Fun idea! Airstreams, pink flamingos and nothing but rose! The definition of rose all day!

Yelp
As a fan of any addition to our Edna Valley wine scene, my lovely wife, along with our venerable dog Charlie, we're excited to visit this "Instagram-worthy" new spot. While the dog and I aren't the hugest Rose fans, we always enjoy a good dog-friendly wine tasting experience and merrily trudged behind my wife Audrey as she led us to the airstream that serves as their tasting bar. To the review: Though my wife is in sales, she impressed me with an initial observation that their staffing layout is "highly inefficient". Now, you may say "the tasting experience shouldn't be rushed, so who cares about efficiency". However, if you are saying this, you would unfortunately be wrong. Why? Good question. So, there were four servers all packed into one side of the Airstream. However, because they were all packed into about a 4 square foot area, with limited taps, it was basically one guy serving and the others kind of "looking cool". While, the others certainly did "look cool", we wished the guy serving would have been cooler. He was certainly a man of few words. When my wife asked if they used stainless barrels for their Grenache Noir he said "no". No further explanation, just a simple "no". When she asked if the winery was associated with Chamisel, he replied "yes" and added "and many more". This, as it turns out, was the longest sentence he used in our wine tasting experience. Onto the tastings. First off, the price of $20 dollars for 4 tastes is a bit steep for the area...and for quality of wine we tasted. The Rose was drinkable and friendly, not overly sweet, but without much complexity. Perfect for a hot summer day with a group of friends that don't know much about wine but enjoy drinking pink colored drinks. Moving down the menu was a middling white (definitely not worthy of a $30 price tag). No more should, or will, be said about this wine. The 3rd taste was of a Mouvedre that was not sold by the bottle. This, was in fact, very good. Subtle, nuanced, complexity, a bit of cola, with almost a musty finish, I found this quite enjoyable and was disappointed we could not purchase a bottle. Last taste was a Grenache Noir that reminded me of my 3rd girlfriend, easy going at first, friendly, good-looking, but when given much time to explore, unremarkable and certainly not "the one". Like my ex girlfriend, also a bit too expensive. So......all in all, this is an experience we were happy to have, but something we will most likely only go back to if forced by friends. I will say if our dog Charlie had a yelp account, he would give Malene 4 stars as he enjoyed their flamingos and found several interesting smells in their bushes.

Jessica P.

Yelp
Great location and the airstreams are really fun. Daniella was great- knew tons about wine and was really fun to talk to. I joined their club and can't wait to come back.

Monica R.

Yelp
Amazing staff, delicious wines, great experience and felt completely safe with all COVID precautions. Would highly recommend! A one of a kind experience!!!

Megan J.

Yelp
Malene has fast become a favorite weekend spot amongst our friends group. We've had many fun picnics here; it's easy to spend an entire afternoon sipping on their wine on tap... their Old Vine and Rolle are delightful! It's nice to find rosé offerings that aren't too sweet, and that have profiles that are more closely aligned to those produced in southern France. Love that it's dog-friendly, and the addition of the picnic tables.

Robin P.

Yelp
Love love love the wine and vibe at this adorable winery/tasting in SLO! William and Brooke go out of their way to make it a relaxing experience. We are wine club members and look forward to our shipments! A not to miss stop!
