This Remote Hawaiian Island Has No Stoplights, No Crowds, and Two Ultra-luxe Hotels

"Down at Four Seasons Resort Lanai, this guest-only outpost nails the elevated poolside vibe with pokeviché, acai bowls, Lanai venison nachos, and catch-of-the-day fish tacos; if you’ve got room, cap it with an ice cream sandwich." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. My friend brought me here for lunch and all I can say is WOW! From the views of the oceans, the friendly staff and gorgeous landscape. The food is phenomenal and so fresh. From the starter, main dish unto desert was divine. The waitress was attentive, nice and gave wonderful suggestions to try that didn't disappoint. I will rate this place 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR PEOPLE THAT VALUE QUALITY, SERENITY AND HAVE UPSCALE TASTE.

Came right when they opened at 11, and it was a great, light lunch. We ordered the delicious burrata, which came with bread upon request. Delicious, light lunch

We ate breakfast here several days on our vacation and I had the lobster toast which was amazing!! The service is pretty slow but friendly. I think they only have enough servers to accommodate guests so they do turn people away if you are not staying here. I'm just sharing that because I have read various travel guides suggesting taking the ferry from Maui just for the day and having lunch at the Four Seasons but it seems that you must be a guest now. The setting is very pretty with breathtaking views of the most gorgeous gardens/pool and ocean in the distance. It was like being in a dream.

Since the Resort is really the only possible Good food in close proximity, we were hoping to get a nice meal. After being dropped off by the local tour guide, who thought the full service restaurant at the resort supported everyone, we found that the Malibu Farm only Caters to hotel guests. When we went there to grab a nice meal, the hostess asked if we were hotel guest, and being honest we said no, they then rejected our request to eat. The restaurant had only 2 tables occupied at that time, so it seems this Resort only Caters to the Guests and Not the Public! This is a shame because being a person on vacation in Hawaii, a $200 lunch is expected. Their Loss, my savings. So if your on Lanai for the day, stay far away from the 4 Seasons Resort for Food if you are Not a Guest there. I've always loved the quality of food and Chef outputs, but it seems the Four Seasons on Lanai, that is Not the case. This occurred Sept 24th, 2024. Around 11:45am. Darin

Great menu and full service bar. Whether at the pool or just soaking up the views and warm sun you can’t go wrong when ordering. My highlight was the Ginger Snap Ice Cream Sandwich. So Good!

This October, 2019, my wife and set out to find the best Mai Tai on Maui/Lanai. We day tripped over to Lana'i and tasted Mai Tais at Malibu Farm Restaurant & Bar. This Mai Tai is the real deal, and our #1 Mai Tai in Maui/Lana. The two Mai Tais we had tasted were true to Trader Vic’s classic recipe as it is to be enjoyed. Pineapple wedge, umbrella, but no cherry. The view of Hulopoe Bay is terrific. $17 Our overall Maui Mai Tai Ranking, October, 2019 was: 1 Malibu Farm Restaurant & Bar, Four Seasons Lanai, Manele Bay 2 Kimo’s, Lahaina 3 Royal Lahaina Luau 4 Tiki Lounge, Kihei 5 Mama’s Fish House, Paia 6 Nalu’s, Kihei 7 Monkeypod Kitchen, Wailea and Kaanapali. 8 Threes Bar and Grill, Kihei 9 Ohana Seafood, Kihei

I recently had a baffling experience at a restaurant that I cannot, in good conscience, recommend to anyone. The establishment I am referring to is so exclusive that it is seemingly invisible to the general public. With no signs or indications of its existence, it's safe to say that this restaurant likes to play hard to get. Unfortunately, my recent visit left me feeling frustrated and confused. Having dined at this restaurant in the past, I expected a similar experience this time around. However, the "manager" made it clear that access to the restaurant is granted on a whim. He stated that sometimes it's allowed, and other times it's not. Seriously, who runs a restaurant like that? It was like trying to unravel a riddle without a hint of logic. In an attempt to make sense of the situation, my companions and I inquired whether we could call ahead to secure a reservation or to check if the restaurant was open. To our dismay, the manager flatly denied our request. How can a supposedly reputable establishment have such a bizarre policy? It seemed that common courtesy and basic customer service were completely alien concepts to them. Adding to our frustration, the staff members were just as clueless as we were regarding the sudden changes in expectations. They couldn't provide any coherent explanation or shed light on why the restaurant operated in such a peculiar manner. It felt like we were trapped in an enigma, desperately seeking answers that were never to be found. Perhaps the most disheartening part of the experience was the nagging feeling of being profiled. The lack of transparency, combined with the inconsistent policies, left us wondering if our presence was unwanted or if we simply didn't fit the elusive criteria to be deemed "worthy" of dining there. It's an unpleasant thought, and one that shouldn't be associated with any establishment claiming to serve the public. All in all, my visit to this undisclosed restaurant was a complete disappointment. The lack of signage, the selective policies, and the complete absence of clear communication left me feeling frustrated and disheartened.

Yelp
We popped in for a drink on our Lanai excursion day. Drinks are pricey but that is to be expected! This mai tai was made with disaruno liqueur which was exceptional. My family also got the coconut and the guava (more of a blended drink). Service is nice and we enjoyed the beautiful ambiance and view!

Yelp
We weren't staying at the hotel, so tried calling to make reservations several times - no one ever picked up. We then happened to be driving by around lunch time one day so just decided to try to pop in without a reservation and found we could get right in. The ambience was lovely - great view. The server was a local, born & raised on Lanai, and she was attentive and kind. Daughter loved the nachos and snickerdoodle ice cream sandwich - and I enjoyed the fish tacos and a glass of wine.

Yelp
An absolutely beautiful location to dine at with ok food! I enjoyed my shrimp/lobster fried wonton (special of the day, not on regular menu!), but the burger and sandwich were "all right." What is special, however, is the locally sourced ingredients that do make the meals taste fresh!

Yelp
Can officially say that breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all 5 stars. We especially loved the papaya bowl and crab cake sandwich. All the drinks were fabulous. I loved eating both at the restaurant and by pool :)

Yelp
Awesome lunch with a view, tropical breeze, good food and service. My hubby and I had a lunch date during our Lanai excursion day. Restaurant is at the Four Seasons resort, past the pool area and you will find the dining area with beautiful foliage and decor. Our servers were friendly and attentive. We ordered the crab cakes, Catch of the tacos and sandwich and refreshing coconut cocktails. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner with a beautiful view and breeze.

Yelp
Good views, good food, and good service! malibu Farm is a perfect restaurant for the perfect weather. only available for in-house guests of the resort. they open at 11am and offer brunch items. Food was very good that you can really enjoy as you overlook the beach.

Yelp
Every staff person was fantastic. We had drinks, and the drinks were good at the bar in the hotel is to the side of the pool. I wouldn't exactly call it stoic, but it is somewhat industrial Polynesian design if there is such a thing. It was a fun opportunity there and I would go to the restaurant for lunch. If I was on the island again I didn't try the food so I can't talk about it..

Yelp
Located in four seasons lanai, this place is perfect for outdoor lunch with good views. We went for lunch here on a pleasant afternoon. The views were out of this world. The waitress was courteous and gave some food suggestions. We ordered the mahi mahi with miso and chicken ricotta burger. Both of them were super tasty and very freshWe ordered a chocolate cake dessert which wad good too.Overall a must visit when in Lanai.

Yelp
Malibu Farm is a lovely addition to the Four Seasons Lana'i. During our stay, we ordered: Shaved Raw Brussel Sprout Salad with grilled Ono-an excellent salad, light but flavorful. Grilled Kauai Shrimp-right up there with spot prawns Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich-it looked great but I stuck with the shrimp, no sharesies this time! Always accompanied with a hibiscus beverage...

Yelp
I really like the menu at this spot as well as the location with an oceanside view. The gal who took care of me on my first visit was very good, very friendly, prompt and efficient. I did not wait long for anything, including the check when asked for, and closing is as important as everything else. I ordered a simple chopped salad with cucumber, tomato add avocado for $3 and tossed in a lemon vinaigrette dressing. Was very light and refreshing. I saw several sandwiches, burgers and tacos I could've eaten as well as hummus and other items. I love a menu with 10 items I could easily eat - it all sounded good.

Yelp
While staying here at the Four Seasons, we walked down to grab lunch on a sunny afternoon and it was the perfect setting for this outdoor seating experience. Umbrellas cover the tables and we had a view of the beach. You are on island time here and the vibe is very relax. The fish of the day was local Seabass so we ordered the local grilled fish entree and the ahi poke with gauc and chips to share. The entree was spectacular! The fish was so fresh and the entire dish was light, flavorful, and healthy. Service was good and we enjoyed this spot for lunch very much.

Yelp
We had lunch by the pool and it was so delicious! I got the grilled cheese panini and added bacon, tomato and avocado and it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! My husband got the fish tacos. Fish of the day was Maui Maui and he also loved every bite! I highly recommend having lunch by the pool and relaxing.

Yelp
Thanks to the Kids For All Seasons program at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai, my husband and I were able to enjoy two lunches at Malibu Farm. Located by the pools and overlooking Hulopoe Bay, Malibu Farm employs a farm to table concept featuring a menu with the freshest local and organic ingredients. There are so many outdoor activities to do on Lanai so whether if we went hiking or swimming in the ocean, I would be craving for something fresh and tasty for lunch. Malibu Farm did not disappoint! Our first lunch we shared a very beautiful ahi tuna nicoise salad. The ahi was fresh and I loved the Molokai purple sweet potatoes. We also shared a very hearty mahi mahi fish sandwich. For dessert, we had the passion fruit yogurt cake and the grilled chocolate cake. We foolishly thought we would just take a bite and save the rest for the kids. That did not happen. We finished both pieces and really could have eaten more. Both cakes were amazing! Our experience at Malibu Farm was so wonderful that we came back for lunch the next day. Since we were having a big dinner that night we decided to share the papaya and burrata salad with ahi. I really appreciated that they portioned our salads in the kitchen so we didn't have to do it ourselves. Always such amazing service at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai. Open daily from 11am to 7pm. Seating is outdoors, but shaded. You can also get most of the menu poolside.

Yelp
Perfect place for lunch in a fantastic setting ! Whether you are staying in Lanai or there on a day trip, this is a fantastic option for lunch ! We arrived at 11.45am without a reservation and were seated promptly. Staff was super kind and views are fantastic. Of course this is Four Seasons so not cheap ... but you are in a truly exceptional resort with incredible views. My wife tried the cobb salad while I went for the "POKEVICHÉ". Highly recommended restaurant!

Yelp
The fish sandwich here can compete with any fish sandwich on earth. Calling it a simple fish sandwich actually minimizes it's importance to our shared culture and humanity. This is a dish that rises above what was thought to be possible. It's worth every penny. I dream of it now that it is gone. A highlight amongst a truly special resort full of highlights.
google avatar

Rob B.

Yelp
Not cheap but excellently prepared and beautifully presented. Some offerings a better value than others. Skip the nachos but the BLT was awesome. The Sculpin IPA good value.
google avatar

Pat A.

Yelp
Food is fantastic and they are very accommodating. Chicken ricotta burger and Fish tacos are the hit of the trip! Ate here for lunch almost every chance we got!
google avatar

Neelum K.

Yelp
ALOHA on Larry's private island - Lanai HI! This is their "poolside" offering - with tremendous views, totally outdoors and very lunch forward. Had delicious local greens, well made cocktails and tremendous breeze. Can't go wrong here. Local organic fresh ingredients. I would recommend this place for lunch if you are staying at the Four Seasons, and then jump into the ocean and have the real fun!

Yelp
This is one of the few restaurants near Manele Harbor. All the restaurants in this area is located in the Four Seasons Hotel & Resort. We knew it was going to be expensive, but since we weren't going into Lanai City (where more affordable restaurants were) and had no other option, we thought we would try it out. It's located in walking distance of the Hulopo'e Beach, which is convenient for beach goers. The atmosphere is relaxing and beautiful. The restaurant is outside and overlooks the beach. I don't know how parking works since we used a shuttle and they dropped us off. I'm sure there's a parking fee or valet parking. The staff directed us to the restaurant and the waiters/waitresses were nice and friendly. The food is average in comparison for the price. It's going to be expensive regardless because of the lack of restaurants in this area and the fact that it's Four Season's. I got my Chicken Tortilla salad for about $30 and my boyfriend got his burger for about the same amount. They were both average in flavor, nothing extraordinary. Maybe we didn't choose the right meals. In my opinion, I think you should just save your money and go back to eat better food in Maui. If you're staying in Lanai, I'm not sure if there's many other options so this may be it for you.

Yelp
Great Vegan Salad and light tasty Crab Cakes. Salted caramel ice cream sandwich was a great dessert. Much better experience than Nobu's!
google avatar

Jack W.

Yelp
Decent place. Nothing out of ordinary. Nice view. Wish the food quality was higher and offer better variety. Shrimp is not as fresh as it should be for the price.
google avatar

Yelp
Visited for breakfast while in a drive up to Malibu. The waffles and berries were fantastic and the rest of the group enjoyed the breakfast tacos. Service was quick and efficient. We enjoyed relaxing & chic atmosphere and walking the pier after breakfast. Thus will likely be a regular stop on our future trips to Malibu.
google avatar

Tinky R.

Yelp
Amazing local sourced food. Great service and the views are to die for. This dog could camp out here from now to eternity. The tortilla salad is the real prize Aloha...

Yelp
Always on the hunt for a good mai tai, I found it. We rolled in off the beach to check out the place. We were not disappointed. Legendary hospitality and a well mixed cocktail, I am always delighted with what I find at a resort of this caliber. -The lava flows aren't bad, either. The best surprise was that my other half had ordered something cool and sweet to go with that drink while I was washing up. An order of the saffron sorbet. The coconut milk on top was a frozen tasty treat! I was not expecting that! It was a fun surprise in my mouth. If you're looking for a dessert that's not too sweet, and easy to share, this is the one I strongly recommend. Zero disappointment!
google avatar

Yelp
I was satisfied coming here, and I would probably come here again. There was a wide variety of choices and the portions were pretty nice. I got the grilled fresh fish, which was mahi-mahi with a miso sauce on a bed of greens with ginger and peppers, potatoes, and rice. My party got a few cocktails, and again, the view from this restaurant overlooked the pool and beach. The prices were comparable to the other places we dined at, but I think the portions were bigger. There were salads, wraps, burgers, main dishes, etc. (lots of choices).
google avatar

Candace L.

Yelp
Had the grass fed burger and venison nachos, both were great and shareable sizes. The burger comes with red potatoes and a small salad, both were very refreshing. Pool or ocean side service available.
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
Unreal scenery and views. Restraunt compliments the hotel and offers a unique menu of organic and healthy options. I thought the menu was a little limited but the burger was great. Service was awsome and overall a incredible place to eat.
google avatar

Tony M.

Yelp
Came on the ferry from Lahaina. Was not a guest of the hotel and decided to get a to-go order. Was treated as if my business was not welcomed. Staff at the beach very rude. For the price they charge for food etc you would expect a higher level of service.
google avatar

Liz L.

Yelp
One of the best meals I had on Lanai. Get the papaya and burrata salad, the grass fed beef burger, and the skirt steak sandwich. All delicious and juicy. Produce is very fresh as well. Only downside is that it's expensive (entrees in high $20's and drinks are $17), but it is in the Four Seasons after all. Only open for lunch (and they serve the food for the pool too). Definitely have a meal here while you're at the resort. Nice view of the bay.
google avatar

Hilary D.

Yelp
Friendly staff & great poolside service at the Four Seasons Lanai! We enjoyed the poke, vegan chop salad, shrimp skewers and papaya burrito arugula which was so unique. They also have great coffee and actual espresso drinks that are well made. I enjoyed an iced cappuccino every morning poolside before heading down to the beach. Thank you for going out of your way to make us feel special on our honeymoon!
google avatar

Jeffrey A.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch on our first day at the 4 Seasons Lanai, and the food was incredible. The grass fed burger was one of the best burgers we ever had. All of the ingredients are local and fresh, and you could tell. Great lunch spot, highly recommend if you're staying at the Four Seasons!
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Beautiful location and great service but food only soso... pizza crust not crisp and too much arugula - fresh fish a bit over cooked and good but not great. Need to try again and get the recommended burger
google avatar

Kay H.

Yelp
Best cauliflower pizza ever! I had to go back for another before we left Lanai. My husband had the fresh catch and he really enjoyed it. The views from the Malibu Farm are absolutely gorgeous. Only wish it was open for dinner.
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
Healthy lunch options pool or beach aide! Fun drink options too! At the beach there isn't alcohol but poolside there is.
google avatar

Leilani P.

Yelp
Service is good and drinks are great. Food is on the healthy side but they are willing to accommodate you in any way. Super amazing view! pool side with a beach view. The moment you sit down you feel super relax. Oh I forgot! As you enter the have two macaws greeting you
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place. Food and service great. Poke was great and absolutely loved the burrata salad with arugula I added fresh fish to it. Yummmm !!
google avatar

E C.

Yelp
Been here a number of times and I have to say- I'm quite disappointed with the service- not a single person checked in on us in the last 2.5 hours I've been sitting here to see if we want to order anything- not one! The sites are pretty but even that doesn't quench a thirst or settle a growling stomach!
google avatar

Mai H.

Yelp
The kobe sliders, steak sandwich and blt sandwich were really, really tasty. The salad was simple but delicious. The view is unbeatable and service was stellar. Cannot go wrong.
google avatar

Kate G.

Yelp
Relatively reasonable, organic food, outdoor setting, ocean view. Great menu. Very chill.
google avatar

miki s.

Yelp
Good place to enjoy something healthy for lunch after snorkeling. Better to add ' local catch of the day '. My stomach is happy to get purple sweet potato, which is simply steamed/baked. Cute sulphur-crested cockatoo is here and show you dance and say aloha!
google avatar

Deborah S.

Yelp
I am a regular at the Malibu Farm in Malibu so I had very high expectations going to the Malibu Farm in Lanai. It was everything I could hope for and more! The resort itself is so peaceful and the view you get when sitting at the restaurant is unbeatable. The service was impeccable. Both the manager and our waitress took such good care of us, both filled with great conversation and perfect service. You must try everything on the menu! Make sure to order the blue chip nachos (to die for), the coconut curry, and the cauliflower pizza. For drinks, hands down the jalapeno tequila killed it.

Amanda F.

Yelp
Im here on a trip with my fiance. Being a vegan and traveler, it is important to know what options I have for food. I ordered the vegan curry and it's the best curry I've ever had. Delicious, local, and organic. The view was amazing and I may go back today and eat it again. The service sucks for an expensive resort and is extremely slow.
