Malmaison Aberdeen (Aberdeen, UK) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"On a per capita basis Great Britain might be the boutique-hotel capital of the world — and any explanation of this fact will necessarily mention the Malmaison name at some point early on. The occasion of this particular mention is the Malmaison Aberdeen, which, if we won’t be thought patronizing for saying so, is essentially a London-quality hotel located in Scotland’s number three market. And while we wouldn’t call it formulaic, by any means, there are certain things you come to expect from a Malmaison hotel." - Tablet Hotels

An over night stay with breakfast for two, what a lovely visit. |It’s so good to visit a Malmaison in Scotland that hasn’t severely deteriorated in service and standards (Dundee and Glasgow need a visit to Aberdeen to see how it’s done). |Aberdeen Mal has always been a great stay and this time it didn’t disappoint. |Thanks to Amanda on reception for her warm and friendly welcome to me and my partner. |The room (127 Club Room) was very quiet and spacious. |Noticed however you now only get 2 chocolates instead of 3 as before and no sparking water , only still, however not a huge gripe. |We used the hotel as a base to sleep mainly, but did enjoy the ambiance of the bar when we returned. |All the staff were so helpful and friendly offering table service and often checking back without being intrusive. |I had contacted the hotel directly prior to the stay to request if they could beat the price of a third party website (who I imagine take a commission) however the member of staff wasn’t interested and directed me to said 3rd party site. |This was addressed by Amanda upon checking in. |I do feel this is really important to businesses, especially in today’s hospitality climate when every penny should count, this felt like the member of staff couldn’t be bothered to take the business. |Overall however, it was a great stay and we can’t wait to return again. |Breakfast was lovely, however the eggs were overdone, staff offered to make a fresh but due to time constraints this wasn’t feasible. |Great work Team Aberdeen Mal!

Malmasion Aberdeen outshone my Edinburgh experience.. Free Birthday drinks, chocolate and cake to boot!||All Staff were very kind and helpful on both days we stayed. Shout out to Rosie and Morag.||The suite room was amazing! Plenty of space and large sitting area. Cleanliness was top marks, throughout the hotel. Well Done! The best was super comfy and we both had great nights sleep.||Great location and good view on the huge balcony that we had. The sun was out on both days so we were able to sit and take in some rays.||The food was fantastic, huge shout out to the kitchen staff and head chef. Breakfast was cooked on order and was great, although they had ran out of muffins on Sunday.||We had nice drinks in the bar on the Saturday and every guest seemed to be having fun.||Parking at rear was very tight! So tight that someone thought it would be a good idea to leave white paint on the side of my car door... Thanks for that! Managed to park at front on Saturday so no more dings came my way.||We had such a lovely time that on the journey back home we decided to book again for Christmas.

We recently stayed at Malmaison Aberdeen for one night on a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast rate, and once again, it was a truly wonderful experience.||From check-in, the service was outstanding. The receptionist was friendly, welcoming, and very attentive, taking the time to explain everything included in our rate and making us feel right at home.||The hotel has clearly benefited from beautiful recent renovations, with stylish décor and a luxurious feel throughout. On arrival to our room, we were delighted to find a handwritten welcome note, a lovely personal touch.||Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and tastefully decorated, with gorgeous colours and stunning soft furnishings. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, ensuring a great night’s sleep. We also appreciated the thoughtful extras — Arran Aromatics bath salts, room spray, and toiletries, which added a touch of indulgence.||The bathroom was fantastic, featuring a large walk-in double shower, twin sinks, and robes and slippers. The coffee machine, complimentary chocolates and bottled water, and fully stocked mini bar provided everything we could possibly need for a relaxing stay.||Dinner in the restaurant was another highlight. We both enjoyed perfectly cooked steak, which was full of flavour and beautifully presented. The desserts were delicious, and the cocktails and drinks were excellent. There was a small supplement for the steak, but it was well worth it for the quality.||Overall, this was another outstanding stay at Malmaison Aberdeen. The combination of stylish surroundings, exceptional service, and delicious food makes this hotel one of our favourites in the city. We’re already looking forward to returning!

Stayed for a week at Malmaison Aberdeen 17th-24th September on a business trip. The hotel is really nice. Food was really good, staff all welcoming and helpful. Great atmosphere in the bar showing live sports. I have stayed at Malmaison a few times when working in Aberdeen and haven't had any issues previously but this will likely be my last stay at the hotel. I stayed in a room on the LG floor (Room 14). Unsure exactly how this room sits in the layout of the hotel but I suspect it sits below the restaurant / Kitchen area as the noise was extremely loud from above until the early hours. Also, in the mornings when the deliveries arrive between 6-7am the noise was even worse. Looking out the window the delivery area must be 1-2m away from the room window. Attempted ear plugs but was still woke up on several occasions both late on and early in the morning with the deliveries. I mentioned this to the receptionist and he didn't sound overly concerned, stating he will pass it on (whatever that means). My advice would be if you are allocated a room on the lower ground (room 11-20) and would like a good night sleep request a room on floor 1/2 as I've never experienced an issue with noise on these levels.

Nice attentive waiter (the first one we had) cleaned the table etc for us, but for our next round of drinks got delivered by a different waiter who didn’t bring the sugar for the tea and our peanuts for the beer. Under the table where we sat outside were several cigarette ends I guess from the night before. Nice place but needs to improve a bit.

Fabulous two day stay after attending a funeral in Aberdeen.|This was a really first class Hotel with extremely helpful staff throughout every department who have received excellent training. |The standard room was beautiful, spotlessly clean and very comfortable with a king size bed firm and lovely bedding. |The bathroom had a great bath and a seperate shower unit with a rain fall shower head providing a good amount of spray I could have stayed in there for an hour.|The Media system provided cable as well as terrestrial viewing.|The rooms are fitted with an air con that keeps the room cool or warmer as required, I loved that. |There is a spa area with a small gymnasium but ample for those wanting to use it. |The corridors had beautiful carpeting throughout very clean and welcoming well lit throughout. |Upstairs the lift takes you to the bar restaurant area which is well lit although dimmed in the evening with great bartenders on shift.|The restaurant is large and the kitchen chefs are visible while they cook and their menu was full of delicious choices.|I had a starter dish of beef noodles which as an ex chef/ restaurant owner I was jealous of as it was stunning and friends said the same. |We had a griddled pork chop with a cider sauce, a chicken Millanaise and a burratina dish complimented each of my friends choice. |The choice at breakfast was also great and I was extremely happy with my two day stay.|It’s firmly on my list for staying there on my next visit. Truly a 10/10 experience.

This hotel is located in a beautiful residential neighborhood in Aberdeen. Although it’s several miles from the city center, bus stops are very close by, offering frequent rides. Rooms are large and quiet, beds are very comfy, and bathroom has both shower & tub. Staff were friendly & helpful.

There is nothing wrong and nothing amazing about the hotel. It is in a nice part of town but not near the city center. Some rooms are not serviced by an elevator due to the construction of the building so you might need to carry your suitcases up multiple levels. The rooms windows are directly open to the parking lot and walkway so absolutely no privacy if you open the shades. The bar was impressive and there was breakfast available in the restaurant which had a small continental buffet and normal cook to order options. Staff were nice. Everything was clean and in working condition.

Yelp
We stayed one night while visiting Aberdeen. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. I can't say enough about the very friendly and accommodating staff who were ready to help a jet lagged American and her 88 year old mother in every way possible. We had dinner at the restaurant and the food was delicious. Highly recommend.

Yelp
My friend was turning 40 at the beginning of January and didn't want to plan anything as everyone world be skint and not able to travel to Aberdeen at that time of year. So I decided to suprise her, I arrived at hers in the Friday, she lives just outside Aberdeen. On the Saturday I suprised her again and told her to pack an overnight bag as we were going somewhere. Her husband drove us and her mum to the malmasion where I had booked her in for a girls night in. When we arrived she was like "no way malmasion this will cost a fortune" well for £84 each we got our room, mal munchies brought to our room, a cocktail and a cooked breakfast. Our room was lovely and had a great view of the city. The bathroom was so big that it actually echoed.. What was great about doing this was that we didn't have to wander about Aberdeen in the cold rain and wind to different bars or worry about how we were gong to get home. We brought along champagne for the room and relaxed in the room having a good catch up. Then our mal munchies arrived. We didn't know what to expect but it was lovely. Lots of small taster dishes which included, scallops, prawns, giant pumpkin ravioli, chips, potatoes, chicken, pineapple and chilli, crab and a creame Brulae to finish. After this wee got ready and headed down to the brasserie bar. The bar had lots of little areas so you can get some privacy if you want. It was cosy and very Scottish feeling with the decor, including sporan tie backs for the curtains. We enjoyed lots of different cocktails and when we were fine we headed back to our room. In the morning we didn't have to check out till 12pm. And breakfast was on till 11am so we got ready at our own pace and headed for breakfast. We'd had the full breakfast and you could help yourself to anything from the continental breakfast to. We then checked out. We all really enjoyed our stay here and all the staff could not have been more pleasant or helpful. They also have a spa but we didn't use this.

Yelp
I stayed at the Malmaison for work during a recent trip to Scotland. It was a really nice stay, super lux fabrics, style galore, and an excellent restaurant serving both breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The only cons to consider: don't stay here if you have children in tow. While I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue, this is the kind of hotel that doesn't seem to host many children because of the lack of facilities dedicated to them. Conversely, they have an impressive whisky collection, steak choices to rival any steakhouse in Texas, and awesome weekend events.

Yelp
Malmaison used to be The Queens Hotel and a couple of years ago it was bought and redone by Malmaison which has a string of more or less "small luxury hotels" throughout the UK. I found the hotel quite charming - the lobby, bar, restaurant and rooms are stylish and well appointed. The bar is set up for ease of use and has, as one would expect in Scotland, an incredible selection of whiskies. I had the chance to be in both a suite and regular room. Both were nice, but the suite was outrageous. The shower, like many in the better hotels throughout the UK has massive water pressure and flow. Think also: glass, chrome, good tile, heated towel racks, grapefruit infused custom soap, etc. Plus, both the suite and regular room sported a double shower head making the decision to get out of the shower difficult at best. On the downside, the cost of breakfast here, again like many throughout the UK is salty for what you get. A very limited buffet continental for £13 (no protein). Add two more £s and get a hot breakfast that is still quite limited - eggs Benedict for example - single portion, no accompaniment, tough English muffin. Service was fine. I had zero issue with noise. Pricing: single room £270, suite £370. Yeah, that's a bit of an ouch. Aberdeen is an expensive city. 20 minute cab ride to the airport.

Yelp
It is sad that we had to go to this hotel because we were out of options due to our flight being cancelled due to fog. It is even sadder that they gave us a very high rate for a double room that was nicely furnished but badly placed, close to the bar area and a noisy schoolyard. They were trying to go for the boutique hotel feel but the location was too residential and close to a school. Maybe there are better rooms but for such a small hotel I could not imagine what part will not hear the noise. As well, the staff seemed out of their element and inexperienced when they are trying to handle client request. When we asked them for something as complicated as ordering a taxi, they seemed poleaxed. If you ever need to try a hotel maybe it is better to try a hotel that is closer to Aberdeen city and give you an opportunity to spend more time to explore the city and save your pocketbook.

Yelp
I'd like to give 2 different ratings: one for the restaurant, and one for the hotel. The dinner we had was lovely, the service was efficient and professional, but also warm and friendly. The steak was well-prepared, and I always love a steakhouse that you can see where they age the meat. If you're looking for a nice meal out in Aberdeen, this is one of the best. If you're a traveller from out of town and looking for a hotel (as we were) then I'd STRONGLY advise against it. Our double room cost about 240 pounds per night, and was probably the noisiest hotel room I've ever had. In the evening we could hear the music from the bar, and in the morning.... what a wonderful treat to realize we were next to a schoolyard, as some sweet, lovely young lads bounced a football off the window at 7:30am. I called the front desk before check-out to say we needed a taxi to the airport, which seemed to be a big ordeal for them, and then they mixed up us and another guest who had also ordered a taxi, and they only ordered one. They then tried to convince us to split the taxi, which wouldn't have been a bad idea except that we were going to opposite ends of the city. On an earlier visit we stayed in the Aberdeen Douglas Hotel. It isn't as cool, but the service is better, the rooms are just as nice, and the price difference will pay for a meal at the Malmaison bistro. Great food, rotten hotel.

Yelp
Very frustrating from moment I arrived. After a 13 hour flight, I was told rooms aren't ready until 3pm, which was 2 hours away. I checked in periodically (typically some rooms are ready sooner than others) but got the same unsympathetic curt response - 3pm. At 3pm, guess what? Still not ready...had to wait a few minutes more. Check in staff seemed as annoyed with me as I with them. Finally to my room. Shower is ridiculous. Huge rain style faucet disproportionate to very small shower. Nearly impossible to apply soap, like I was in a monsoon. Finally very few and hard to find outlets. Clearly not designed for business travels. Only reason I even gave 2 stars is bar is very cozy and wait staff very friendly.

Yelp
One of the nicest places in Aberdeen to relax, drink and dine. The Malmaison is proud of using local material for its cuisine. And they taste good, even though we have to admit that they are a bit pricy for what they are (burgers etc). The decoration and the environment, however, make it up for you. The bar area, has a fireplace, and a huge corner sofa, that you can sit for hours and enjoy your drinks, with a good book or a good company. It gets really busy so you get the chance to see and meet people, and enjoy qualitative drinks. Even the female toilets are awesome and most importantly they are clean and tidy!!! There is also a wine testing area, but have not been there, before.

Yelp
I am sitting in this restaurant as I write this review. This has to be the worst service I have ever had. Absolutely comical how horrible this service is. I would never in a million years come back to this place. I'm not going to even discuss the food in this review because the service was so bad it's not even worth the discussion. Don't come to this place.

Yelp
I have stayed many nights at this hotel and when reading the two less than flattering reviews, I felt compelled to set the record straight. There is indeed a schoolyard next door, but despite having slept on that side several times, I have yet to be woken by a ball being bounced against the window. There is the bar, and I'd be really sorry if it weren't there. I can't say I ever suffered from noise when in a room close to the bar, but that may be me being a sound sleeper. BUT, given the layout of the hotel, it is impossible to have a room close to the bar and overlooking the schoolyard. The bar is probably the place that is constantly providing good service. The restaurant does great steaks, but when it gets really busy, it feels like they are understaffed. Over time the menu offering seems to have suffered from an attempt to have a uniform menu across the chain. But, fortunately the kitchen still seems open to deviating from that menu if you know what you want. Given the number of taxi's I have booked at the front desk, I have no clue how the complaining reviewers from Toronto got the impression they got. I'd say: if you can get a room at a price acceptable to you at the Mal, go for it!

Yelp
I find the food at this restaurant second rate for the price, even considering the dearth of good food options in Aberdeen. I have had about 6 meals here while staying as a guest and finally decided that the convenience was not worth it and will go elsewhere. The steak can be good, I will give them that, but the other entrees are not good. The lobster with spaghetti was overloaded with butter, the lobster was bland, and there was sand or dirt from an improperly cleaned shell. The burger, which I ordered rare, came out well done, and only after they brought it to me did the server mention that it was against their policy to serve pink burgers. I would have really liked to know that, since I hate well done meat. The fish with sweet potatos was ok - the sauce on the sweet potatoes was flavorful and inventive but the fish was a bit tough. Finally, the lobster burger was completely inedible. I had one bite and that killed my appetite. The service tends to be really slow, but friendly. On the positive side, I love the bread, hummus and butter starter, and the eton mess dessert is delicious. Overall, it's worth a 5-10 minute cab ride to one of the other places in town.
