We have stayed here many times and the things that never change in this hotel are the warm and friendly welcome, the staff are all friendly from receptionist, bar staff, waiting staff, house keeping, cleaners and maintenance guys. |The rooms are warm and comfortable beds. |We had cocktails in the bar before dinner and we had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. Food was all amazing and friendly staff in the restaurant. |The breakfast was delicious and cooked to perfection. Lots of choice on continental and cooked options. They are happy to make any changes where they can for allergies etc. |room was clean and warm. Only thing I would say as a female the lighting isn’t great for doing your hair and make up in the room. We had a slight issue with the cold water coming out as hot they are getting that looked at by maintenance team. We love this hotel, have stayed many times over past 10|Years. We will be back again later in the year and hopefully the spa will be open and we can have a lovely relaxing massage. If your looking for a hotel that gives you a big warm welcome and top service in Newcastle look no further than the Malmasion Newcastle

It’s a nice hotel, but dark which is obviously the theme of the place. They incorrectly told me and my colleague about our breakfast choices stating one of us didn’t have an option for warm food and only continental but this was wrong. Maintenance came in my room believing it to be vacant which was awkward and the room windows are old and poor double glazing and could not sleep well due to early morning noise from outside. There was banging in the next room as well which the hotel didn’t think to let people know just out of courtesy. Breakfast with what was provided was nice and people were friendly and polite.

We stayed at the Malmaison in Newcastle just after Christmas and had a great stay. The staff on reception and the restaurant are all very professional and a credit to the hotel and couldn't be faulted. Tessie in the restaurant is wonderful, chatty and super helpful.... we remembered her from our visit last year! We did upgrade to one of the suites but had a problem with a noise in the room caused by the fans in the hotel, this was resolved quickly and we were moved to a different room. We will definitely be back and would recommend.

We’ve regularly stayed at Newcastle Malmaison for years.|Our room was beautiful and clean, upgrades to the tv system are much appreciated.|Service in the restaurant from Amy and Stan at dinner was great and then excellent service from Lorna in the bar for an after dinner drink. Breakfast was also lovely with great service.|Dinner let it down a little as my steak was under seasoned and not well rested. |It’s also frustrating that the spa wasn’t open as that was part of why we booked to stay there.

Stayed here for 2 days for a work trip.||My room was great although the staff really made the trip special. Tirso at breakfast was absolutely fantastic, sitting me by the window with a great view. ||I also really appreciated the eco approach offering a free drink in exchange for not getting your room cleaned

We stayed at the Malmaison from 01/01/25 for 2 nights. This is our second time at this hotel and it definitely won't be our last. All of the staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are clean and comfortable with everything you need.|We had breakfast at the hotel which is delightful. All breakfast is made to order, so all fresh and hot. The atmosphere is made extra special by Tessie. Tessie is a wonderful person. Tessie was friendly, welcoming, kind, and had a great personality. Her customer service was outstanding even when at times they appeared busy. Breakfast is so worth having even if only to be served by Tessie. |We had cocktails in the bar which were fab.|All we can add is that the Malmaison is a great place to stay in a wonderful position on the quayside and we can't wait to return later this year.

Went here for a business trip, so probably the price I paid had some sort of discount (very good price for a 4 star, btw). Great place to stay in Newcastle. Amazing breakfast (buffet + hot dishes on demand, really recommend Eggs + Salmon and Breakfast Muffin with Brown Sauce), great service and super kind staff. Coffee as well was good, which is rare for hotels and I say it as an Italian. There is even a small gym with premium (and very complete) equipment. Its position on Quayside is súper strategic, close to well know restaurants, just a walk away from Grey Street and allow to reach Cobalt Park in just 20 minutes by car.

I visited the Malmaison today with my elderly Mam for afternoon tea. The hotel is a stunning building situated on the key side with marvellous scenic views of the riverside. Although early we were welcomed and seated in the window of a warm friendly, stylish, modern restaurant. Our waitress was excellent in her role, she introduced herself and reassured us she would be on hand to see to our every need. My Mam felt welcome and important which enabled her to relax and enjoy the ambience, Tessie even managed to remember our names throughout the visit. Tessie was quick to observe, check and see to our needs whilst serving others that had entered the restaurant/brasserie. Tessie filled the room with her presence of professional, happy, friendly expertise. The food was Devine, both the hot savoury and cold desserts all had their own unique taste and were presented beautifully on a tired slate. We’ve already looked to return with others for the steak night and will look forward to sampling more of the menu. Well done Tessie for making such a difference to our afternoon. |Thanks again Malmaison for one of the best afternoon teas.

Yelp
I love this hotel. I have stayed there a few times, as well as testing out their spa and brasserie. It is situated right by the Millennium Bridge on Newcastle's Quayside, giving an amazing view of the River Tyne and its bridges. There are loads of bars and restaurants nearby, and it's a 15 minute walk to the city centre (there is also a Quayside electric bus which takes you to the centre, or you can take a taxi from outside the hotel). Now on to the interior...I just love it! It's dark and sensual with a lot of purples. The rooms are spacious, and the suites are fantastic: luxurious comfort is how I would describe it. And those beds?! Amazing night's sleep. My husband is American and it's traditional to host a Rehearsal Dinner before your wedding. We held this is a private dining area in the brasserie and from all the planning to the actual event, I could not have had better service. The food is all made on site by the chef and his/her team, and it was delicious. The spa is really adorable, and a lovely place to come and relax. We had a couple's massage. The staff were extremely professional and I loved chilling out in the relaxation room. 5/5 for everything about this place. We had such a great experience from start to finish.

Yelp
I've stayed at this hotel once, but I've frequented their bar and spa quite a few times. The room is excellent, lovely furnished with a great flatscreen lcd on the wall; although, I did have trouble with their shoddy remote control. The bathroom was sweet with a lovely shower; but, I did miss having body lotion. Frankly, with an amazing Spa in the hotel, I think more luxury products would be given to entice guests to the Spa. This hotel would get FIVE STARS if not for a few mistakes, that can only be chalked up to mediocre hotel management, excluding their elevator that makes a horrible noise as if it's going to detach and plunge me to my death (please fix that). First of all, there is no access to ice machines, or ice bucket in your room. You must visit the bar for both. You could probably call it up, but that is always a hassle. People at the bar seem like they're forced to be nice to you, but if could have been a bad day. I'd stay at this hotel again and again. I highly recommend it, if not for the tiny fixes to make it a FIVE STAR. The towel warming rack in the bathroom is a nice touch. Please fix the elevator. Lastly, the worst trait of this hotel is the waiter staff during breakfast in the restaurant. My girlfriend and I waited so long for our coffee, tea, and toast that it had to be reordered. Suddenly the reorder comes to our table with black tea instead of green tea. Within seconds later, after a half hour of waiting our original order comes. The waitress is completely confused. In this time, we already ate the self-serve part of our breakfast. Completely and utterly ruined. Still, I would return.

Yelp
The bestrooms in Newcastle. We got a deal to stay here. The rooms are decorated in a crazy, modern fashion. Great views of the TYNE too

Yelp
I have stayed in Malmaison in Newcastle numerous times now on business and have enjoyed my stay, if been slightly disappointed. I lived in Newcastle for nearly a decade and always wanted to stay in/eat in the Mal. It is without a doubt the most stylish hotel in the City Centre and pure indulgence to stay there when you live just down the road! I got my chance last year after moving to London when I had to attend a business event in Newcastle. The Mal costs around £165 a night - I usually book on Expedia as I find they have the cheapest rates but the hotel also features on laterooms and other hotel sites so shop around. It is situated on the Quayside which is the redeveloped area on the Newcastle side of the Tyne. The views walking along towards the hotel are absolutely stunnnig, especially at night. I find it's very conveniently situated for transport as now the Quayside yellow bus goes from just along the quay up into the City centre and to the railway station. As you step into the Mal it is like stepping into a cocoon - the music is soft, the looby is dimly lit and the walls are painted in dark purple. The furniture is decadent and luxurious and the long curved reception desk makes you feel you have arrived to pure luxury. After checking in the lift takes you up into the hotel (complete with french lift voice telling you your floor so pay attention). The rooms I have stayed in vary -with by far the best one facing the Millenium Bridge with the most amazing powerful shower and slate tiled bathroom. Each room I have visited does boast beautiful rich decor and lovely free toiletries as well as little Malmaison touches like the DVD player and flatscreen TV. Heading down for breakfast in the cold light of day the hotel decor reminds me of what a nightclub looks like without all the people and atmosphere of an evening - tired and a bit sleazy. Similarly having your breakfast in a sumptuosly decorated resturant also feels a bit wrong. The food itself is lovely, there isn't a huge amount of choice and the buffet is smaller, (the Hilton is still the best) but the smoked salmon and scrambled egg is without a doubt the best I have had. This is a nice hotel, but each time I go I find it disappointing. When I was a student in Newcastle I thought this place was the height of luxury - and at that time it probably was. If only it would keep up with the times, it would definitely have the potential to be again.

Yelp
If I could live at this hotel, I would! The decor is breathtaking and the atmosphere is sophisticated and relaxed. The rooms are specious and very clean, with comfy beds to boot. The staff are very conscientious and polite. The bar is a must! You are waited on like a celebrity and the bar staff are very knowledgeable about cocktails and other drinks they serve. They offer free snacks to nibble on while you wait for your drinks to be made. This is more a place you would go with your partner for a romantic drink rather than a night out.

Yelp
Lovely hotel and a great location, right bang on the Quayside, near to restaurants and great bars as well as the stunning Millenium bridge, Baltic Art Gallery and Sage Music Venue. This hotel is not to be missed. Pricey yet not totally unreasonable, the rooms are tastefully decorated and the bathrooms are a delightful blend of black and white tiles (and a lovely selection of free bath and shower gels and shampoos make it worth the visit in itself). The restaurant and bar are a great place to relax and are not unreasonably priced, with food of a very good standard. The hotel staff are very accommodating and do everything to make your stay a pleasant one.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the stay here - only spent a couple of nights here but the accommodation was good. Bed a little stiff (much too stiff for a friend who had suffered a back injury recently) but the accommodation is very good - lots of greys and purples and comfiness and space in the bedroom - great! Decor around main areas is very dark and feels a little dingy. Also didn't enjoy being charged £50 for a deposit so that i didn't drink the room's minibar dry (as some of us do not have credit cards!). Receptionist very harsh when people complained about this and did not offer any retraction. They had also double-booked a colleague so she had to stay in a different hotel for one night! However, the food was excellent. we had two breakfasts and one dinner for a large group - all food was faultless, with very friendly yet polite service for the dinner. First breakfast hadn't got enough staff on - there was a 30 minute wait for any hot food, however 2nd day was much better and more enjoyable. Overall, a nice experience, pricey but if you are looking for a bit of a hideaway in pretentious surroundings you'll like it here.

Yelp
Quality hotel on Newcastle quayside which I have used for corporate day conferences and evening meals but not accommodation. Parking is a bit of an issue with fee arking in nearby multistory; It is on the Quayside so expected. Some of the rooms are small and one we used for seminar was noisy as it was downstairs. Food at function actually tastier than at restaurant

Yelp
I don't know who wrote the other reviews, but my room and the room of my coworker were never really cleaned well. My garbage wasn't emptied on two occasions, and the housekeeper left a bottle of cleaning solution in my bathroom. My coworker only got one towel to use. My windows were painted shut. The room was so dark, everything was black and purple. It was pouring rain and they couldn't give me an umbrella. The staff was very nice, but that wouldn't entice me to ever come back.

Yelp
We had dinner in the Hotel restaurant. It's pretty pricey, but the quality of the food is first rate. I had a smoked trout salad followed by steak and it was delicious. The portion size was fine and the bottle of house red was also very good indeed. The interior décor was fine on a dark late winter's evening but I reckon it would be a bit dingy during daylight hours or in the summer. A bit self-consciously trendy for my taste but that's a personal opinion. All black and purple crushed velvet, a bit goth. The service was terrible. We had drinks in the bar first and told them we were having dinner. They brought menus and that was it. No taking our order and then coming through to tell us our food was ready in the way that most quality restaurants do. Half an hour late we finally went in to dinner and then had to wait another 20 minutes or so for the meal. Our waiter was ok if a bit dour. They menu's were mixed up with earlier menus so my first choice wasn't available. We ordered a bottle of wine with one waitress that never turned up and then ordered again with the wine waiter who to be fair was excellent. 5 stars for food quality, 3 stars for surroundings, 1 star for service.

Yelp
Nice hotel but very bad service for breakfast and drinks. Doesnt help when you are woken by a fire alarm at 3am and made to walk 5 stories down the stairs and made to wait in the cold for 20 minutes. Good location but ok mid quality hotel in means of service

Yelp
I had a fantastic meal here while on a friend's hen weekend. The food was amazing and we were seated in a separate little dining room, which added a real sense of occasion to the evening. I would particularly recommend the Calamari. The waitress was very efficient, especially considering she was the only one assigned to our table of 14 and remained calm and pleasant in the face of some rudeness from one of my fellow diners. If I had to make one criticism, it would be that the dining room was a little dark, but overall this was a fabulous dining experience.

Yelp
stayed for two nights end of september to drop our son off at newcastle university - along with many other parents! It was our first visit to newcastle and we weren't disappointed. The hotel is in a lovely position overlooking the tyne although a 10 15 minute walk into the centre which was tiring for me with a sprained foot. There are bars and restaurants a short distance from the hotel with plenty of choice. Newcastle itself is a very attractive city and we were impressed with the friendliness of the people. Back to the Mal. Check in was smooth and efficient, we had booked a chateau suite for me and my husband to celebrate his birthday and a large twin room for my three children (my son stayed the first night and then went into university halls for the second). The suite was spacious, great walk in shower and full size toiletries which they ask you to take home. loved the black waffle dressing gown want one just like it. great view from the suite over the tyne. The twin room was large and more than adequate for the three children. Ate in the brasserie the first night as we arrived later on in the evening and it was very pleasant, service was excellent and friendly. breakfast in the morning was fine tea and coffee arrived promptly, ran out of glasses and juice on second morning and had to wait for some items to be replenished but not a major problem. cooked breakfast to order was of a very high standard one of the best i have had in a hotel of this class. Overall a really good stay the staff were fantastic and i will stay here again.
