The clam chowder is one of the best I had. Service is great. The bacalao was ok. I think that dish would be better with real salted cod and not fresh cod. My wife's ravioli was a little tough , so she left half of it. House wine was good. I will still give it a 5 stars for the good service and the chowder

Google
It’s a simple equation: delicious & innovative dishes in a cool atmosphere with lovely servers who are fun & properly attentive. That’s what you’ll find here. Music at a very nice volume not prohibitive to enjoying your own company. We loved it & had a delightful dinner during our brief stay in Newport. If we had had time for another dinner, we would’ve come back for more menu items. Keep up the great stuff!

Google
At Malt, one encounters not merely a steak accompanied by frites, but rather a transcendent manifestation of bovine succulence colliding with tuberous crispness in a dialectical interplay of textures and essences. The steak, simultaneously robust in its charred exterior and yielding in its sanguine interior, performs a paradoxical symphony of carnivorous indulgence, wherein each morsel compels the diner to reflect upon the very philosophy of cookery itself. The frites, those slender golden batons of fried tuber, shimmer with an almost Platonic ideal of crispness, their interiors whispering of agrarian origins while their exteriors crackle in the mouth like edible architecture. When united with the accompanying sauce—an unctuous elixir of savory profundity—the ensemble transcends the mere act of dining and approaches the realm of experiential metaphysics. To call this simply “steak frites” would be an injustice; at Malt, it is a culinary sonnet disguised as sustenance, a dish that insists upon being contemplated as much as consumed.

Excellent food, amazing kind servers, my risotto was very delicious. Highly recommend

Google
Its a decent little restaurant in downtown Newport. Its has a greaty comfy cozy feel to it. The apperizers were delicous. As an entree I got the steak frites. They could have been a bit more seasoned. The server also seemed annoyed she had to serve me. Other than that it was a good place

Google
English bar with a super nice ambience. Bar is something to admire with tons of nice spirits. Cocktails were superb. The food was above average, very tasty and plentiful. The four plates our party had were great. My fish and chips was almost like being back in England. Overall, highly recommend this place.

Google
I ate at this charming restaurant with my wife and son and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was. It’s a small restaurant off the main strip, but we had an excellent meal and would eat here again.

Google
Irish pub interior, there is a grass patio outback along with table and counter height and bar seating. I highly recommend the burgers - great flavors even though It wasn't cooked to what we ordered (ordered medium and came out medium rare). Homemade buns. The parking is easy, with pull in spots right in front of the restaurant and parallel parking around as well. Not being familiar with the area, I was surprised to see the homeless on nearly every corner.

Yelp
Had a great time with our impromptu Mother's Day Brunch at Malt. There weren't many people there, but the food was good and the service was great.

Yelp
Cute little place. Went in on recommendation from a coworker. Ordered the beet salad ... YUM!!! Husbands ordered the salmon dish and I had the fish and chips. Both versions of fish were over cooked. The fries were good. We waited quite awhile for the entrees, although the place was not busy. Thinking our dinners set under the heat lamp for awhile and that's how they got so dried out? Not sure though. The staff was very friendly. We didn't complain, just ate what we were given. Hoping this was just a "off night".

Yelp
I tried this place and it was great! The service was prompt and the menu had both pub/bistro fare and local seafood. They also had a great wine and beer list. I got a cup of clam chowder and the Malt burger. The chowder was great and super well flavored! The burger came with bacon, carmelized onion jam, and an amazing bun! I got exactly what I was looking for.

Yelp
Great small bistro restaurant away from main drag. Drinks are great specifically white Sangria. Service appropriate. Dinner was good.

Yelp
Always solid. Good service. Large menu and especially so on drinks. Give them a try.

Yelp
My man and I had a friend come with us for dinner. Brian was our server and he was FANTASTIC! He seemed to know exactly when we needed more drinks, when to clear our plates and was patient with us as we chatted way beyond our meals. The food was perfect all the way! Fish cooked perfectly, chicken sandwich was so damn good! And our friends chicken and vegetables were perfect! This place is adorably cozy- we ate outside was enjoyed the scenery. The drinks great and the bathroom was super clean! Can't wait to come back! Five stars for Brian!!

Yelp
Came in on a Monday night and waited at the bar in the front window for fellow diners. The bartender, Teddy, took care of my immediate needs with a Naragassat Lager and an order of Malt Fries. The garlic aioli was really an unexpected pairing- in a good way. Other locals joined me at the bar, and it was respectful and a nice neighborly feel to start the evening. We moved out to the patio, and the waitress took care of every need we had. The street noise was a little loud, but the nearby band was pretty good to listen to! We started with drinks and fresh fried calamari. Good start and my three compatriots started to realize what a nice place this was to eat. We then ordered drinks, including Old Fashioned and a Vodka Gimlet. Both were done perfectly. And I can confirm that the Pan Roasted Cod Risotto was a fantastic choice (thanks to previous Yelp diners for the tip!) My only complaint was that the potato chips that they had with the Risotto were bland (unsalted?) and tasted a little stale. Other diners with us were happy with their fish & chips, and croquettes. We ended with desserts including cheesecake, Tiramisu, and Bailey's on the rocks. No one left hungry. And we were all satisfied. Bar & Teddy - A+ Waitress - A+ Very Accommodating! Food, on pointe! "A" Atmosphere - A Look forward to returning on my next visit!

Yelp
This is a cute little place on Broadway with their unique salt/pepper shakers at each table. At this particular visit, we sat at the table with the Rhode Island shakers. I think last time they were little flamingos. It was a bit chilly out, so I decided to get something warm to drink. I ordered the hot toddy which was just what I needed. It was so comforting and delicious. My partner got the spicy coyote - very tasty. We just order apps during this particular visit. I got the Thai shrimp nachos, which was good. I did enjoy the crispy wonton chips.
google avatar

Renee A.

Yelp
What a great place! We got to sit in the front window table. Our waitress was super nice! We had to start with the shrimp nachos which were FABULOUS! We also shared the beet and pair salad, yum! The clam chowder was different but delicious with hints of rosemary that kicked the soup up a notch. My friends shared the steak sandwich and the ahi sandwich and said they loved both. I had the streak frites with truffle fires which was OMG good! And my DH got the cod and risotto he loved too. On to the desserts.. we got them all and I would recommend them ALL!!

Yelp
YUM YUM! This place definitely gets the Morgan seal of approval! I ate here the other night after a loooooong time between visits, and it was just as delish as I remember. Even though the restaurant is small, the staff does a great job of keeping things safe and sanitized, and we felt comfortable eating here. Luckily, we were in the secluded back room, so we had the extra layer of distance as well. There's a lot of menu choices, and the New American fare has something for everyone, so it's a good place to visit/get takeout from even if you're not sure what you're in the mood for. The burger is one of the best in Newport, but if you're craving something a bit more sophisticated, you simply CANNOT miss the Thai Shrimp Nachos. They use wontons instead of tortilla chips to give the dish an Asian inspired flair, and it's topped with creamy and flavorful coconut-cilantro sauce and succulent local shrimp. We split this as an appetizer, and don't be fooled by the small-ish portion.. it is very filling! For an entree, I got the Bolognese Pasta. The pasta was clearly housemade, and cooked to al dente perfection. I didn't love the sauce, as it was a bit too sweet for my palate, but I definitely would try another one of their pasta dishes in the future. I also splurged on a dessert, and the Chocolate Bomb was amazing! I especially loved the vanilla cookie crumble ice cream on the side. I would totally recommend Malt for desserts as well - one of the best on Broadway! Finally, since it was a Saturday night, I decided to get one cocktail, and my frozen strawberry concoction was perfect - not too sweet, packed a punch (!!), and was very photo friendly. A win in my book! Malt is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant that's worth a visit if you're in town!

Yelp
Went to the Malt last night. We started off with an espresso martini and a spicey mango margarita. Both drinks were well balanced and flavorful. For an app, we had loaded potato croquettes. I absolutely loved them! They weren't a heavy app despite being potatoes which was nice. For a meal, I had the thia shrimp nachos. They are an app but with them having four large shrimp, it made a great light meal. My husband had the southern fried chicken sandwich with bacon jam. He thoroughly enjoyed it and normally he is picky and doesn't like unique ingredients to his food. The server was amazing! We had our baby with us and the server was so sweet and made our little guy laugh and smile every time he came by the table.

Yelp
Our family had dinner at Malt this week. When we walked in you could tell it was a relaxed and friendly place. We started with the goat cheese croquettes which were a favorite. We all had something different for dinner but my arugula salad with hazel nuts and grilled shrimp was fantastic. We ended by sharing the crème brûlée cheesecake. Parking is easy. Prices are reasonable. People are friendly. We'll definitely go back. Thank you Malt for a great evening !

Yelp
We had friends visiting for the weekend and came here Friday night. Always a good meal, drinks, and great service at Malt!

Nina L.

Yelp
What a great environment. Cozy, comfortable, not loud and what a fantastic dinner we had. Someone had told us about this place and said they had amazing espresso martinis. Had to try just because of that. Yes - martini delicious but the food was incredible. We had the Thai Shrimp Nachos - not your ordinary nachos. That could be a meal. We also had the baked cod risotto and the short rib. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. So many more things to try. Can't wait to go back!

Sam R.

Yelp
Got the potato croquettes that were supposed to be bacon and cheese...they came with barely chopped rosemary. Hard to eat. Other items were ok but underseasoned. Despite that, wine was good and server was attentive.

Yelp
Had dinner with my wife and friends this past Weekend. Cozy inviting spot with a lively vibe.I started with a Guinness and have to say it was impressive, properly poured and tasty. The rest of the party were happy with there beverages also.Staff were friendly and helpful. We had the Calamari app which was lightly breaded and very good. I opted for the mezza type plate which was on point. My friend was happy with his steak tips and the lady's shared some apps. Bottom line good food good atmosphere and friendly staff. The blessed trinity of dining Take a bow Malt.

Yelp
Family staying and we needed a simple meal. We all ordered burgers with fries. Tasty and they hit the spot, the empty tummy spot! Ha Take out was simple. I do wish however, that they had a children's menu. Or adapted to people's needs and sold a smaller burger at a reduced price for a child.

Yelp
We. LOVE. Malt! The guys at the True North sailing shop recommended it to us for good fish and chips. They were able to accommodate our party of 6 with a reservation in their back room which is AWESOME for small parties (and could have easily fit 10-12 people). Their beer list is great as were the wine offerings by the glass. I love a chenin blanc, and they can be hard to come by, but Malt's was lovely. The thai shrimp nacho appetizer is so so so good. Definitely perfect to split between 2-3 people. The sauce on that is so creamy and wonderful. Our crew was really into the fish and chips, and one subbed regular chips for truffle fries. That was the right call, let me tell you. I decided to go with the pan roasted cod risotto which featured a mushrooms and a beurre blanc sauce. It was heavenly. For dessert, we had to go with the Malt Bomb, and all I'll say is do not walk, run to the Malt Bomb. This felt like an underrated placed to me. It's a quick walk over from Thames and they're doing everything right. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Thank you Malt!

Yelp
After hearing rave reviews from our friends for years, we finally stopped into the bar at Malt this past week. SO GLAD WE DID! The Irish owner, and young Irish woman working there are extremely nice, professional, funny, all that you want from a bar/dining experience. This place was very busy, and for good reason. We scored two seats at the bar, and immediately felt like we were back in Ireland at a cozy Irish gastro pub. Creative and delicious cocktail lists, with house made bitters and fruit purees, I had a blackberry bramble something and it was divine. Great beer selection as well. We started off with the chowder, and calamari. They are my litmus tests for Newport pubs, if they don't nail those two iconic standards, I usually don't have much hope for their other entrees. Seriously, the best chowder I've had in Newport. Fresh, creamy, filled with clams and perfectly cooked potatoes, just enough dill. Sublime. The calamari was good as well, the sauce was a little heavy on the sweetness, for me. But my husband loved it. Then we had the lobster ravioli, they were running a Valentine's week special I guess, and it sounded amazing. I've been craving lobster since we don't always get the New England lobsters out in Oregon, there's just nothing like that sweet, decadent NE lobster, and they nailed this dish. I love when you can still taste the natural lobster sweetness, and it's not masked by heavy cream sauces, etc. The chef balanced the creamy sauce perfectly with the lobster filled raviolis. AMAZING. I hope they keep that special on their menu. I'd literally have it at least once a week. So few restaurants make lobster ravioli like that, balanced, succulent and perfectly cooked pasta. Fabulous. We were so impressed we kept ordering dishes, we were obviously hungry that night! We had the potato croquettes with aged cheddar, they were perfectly cooked and flavored. Everything we had was great. I LOVE when that happens. We love to cook, but I am so tired of it after being in quarantine over the last two years, wearing masks etc., it just wasn't the same going out, but it was lovely to be out again, we felt normal, had fun, and ate awesome food. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a great evening Malt!

Yelp
Had a nice dinner here during the Kentucky derby and Celtics game. Small and fun atmosphere. Decent drink list - espresso martini, malt Whitman, and wild child all solid. Potato croquettes and cod risotto were great.

Yelp
While driving down Broadway, we spied Malt, with their outdoor seating and exterior lighting and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. We got the Malt Burger and the Fish and Chips. The burger was amazing. Quality stuff and cooked perfectly. The fish and chips were 2 decent sized pieces of fish, nicely cooked and the batter was excellent. The potato wedges were great as well. Coleslaw had a lemon taste to it. It was refreshing, but not what I am used to.

Yelp
This resturant is so delicious . We had the roasted corn chicken tomato Special Soup of the day . So good. The cod risotto was so yummy and for dessert the Malt Bomb is a must eat ! The service was amazing . We would definitely dine here again for sure!

Yelp
I was a little nervous about this place, some of the reviews were mixed, and Yelp seems to like every restaurant in Newport. Short version - we ended up very pleased with the overall experience and quality. Long version - we went during Winterfest, and had a reservation. Based on the other restaurants along the same road and even down near the water, it didn't seem like we needed it, but when we got to Malt it was packed! The reservation had been very easy to make, and ended up being well worth it. The venue itself, as others have noted, was very loud. Small place and it was very busy, so that shouldn't be surprising. The lighting was a little too dim. May have been going for romantic, but I just felt like I was in the shadows. How's the temp on the pork? No idea. (Delicious, however!) The beer selection...pretty damn good. Not much that I was crazy interested in, but plenty of solid options in the 30 or so they had on tap. Quite a few beers on the list that I'd take off if it was up to me, but still a solid list, and I suppose you need to leave a handful of options for customers who aren't as excited as me about the absurd micro-brewery explosion that's sweeping the nation :) For food, we were both very pleased. The lady hesitated on the swordfish, and I convinced her to try it there. Good idea. So good. Perfectly done so it was still tender, moist and flavorful. Kale on the side. Kale. And it was good. Good Kale. Don't say that often. Hmmpff. Anyway, enough about the bites I stole from my date. My meal was a bone-in pork chop with Brussels sprouts, some bits of bacon, and sweet potato puree. Equally pleased with that one. Neither appears on the menu as I write this, but I'd recommend them both if they reappear, so keep an eye out! Wish we could have stayed longer, the drinks looked really good. Maybe next time!
google avatar

Timothy Y.

Yelp
Small menu but great choices- they have something for everyone- and I'm not a beer drinker! Try the hummus! The fried chicken sandwich was good to go!

Yelp
Mixed feelings here. My clams with chourico were delicious. Clam chowder, great, but seemed to only have one clam. We had a reservation and were promptly sat at a wobbly table and broken chair. We asked to move and were told they had to check the other reservations. It was us and 1 other table at the restaurant and we had a reservation as well.... why not switch our table? We had a reservation for a 50th bday. Although not acknowledged... We were finally able to move and ordered. Drinks very expensive, (New York pricing... $15 per cocktail) and the petit filet....well, petit like a waif supermodel. The menu said petit, not 2 oz..... mashed were just okay, and the asparagus was overcooked and boring.
google avatar

Yelp
Really cool pub with good fish and chips, burgers and other bar food. I came here for brunch on a Saturday with four others. We sat at the bar. It was not packed. The bartender greeted us promptly and got us drinks rather quickly. The ambience is really casual, but also really nice and well-kept. I ordered the fish and chips and it was really good. The batter had a nice crunch and the cod was delicious. The tartar sauce was tasty as well. Two others got Malt burgers and really liked it. The other two got the pork Benedict and really liked it. For dessert we shared a molten chocolate cake with ice cream. It was literally divine. I will think about that dessert for a long time. I would definitely come back to eat and drink here. The prices are not terrible either.

Yelp
Great find on Broadway. Seasonal food & drink menu's! Good ambiance, indoor & outdoor seating. We always come back when we are in town!

Yelp
Visiting Newport for a birthday weekend. My wife and I enjoy a nice dinner, so we spent some time researching. Malt seemed that it would be a good choice based on the reviews. We had a 7pm reservation, and were seated quickly. We had a choice: high top table in the room closest to the bar, or a regular table in the the narrower room. Noise level in the room closest to the bar was pretty high, so we chose the regular table. Restaurant was steady, but not overly busy. Probably running at about 80%. We ordered two cocktails, both pretty good. We also ordered the chickpea fritters. These were underwhelming, and a bit dry. Have had better. For entrees, I ordered the Cod Risotto. The fish was cooked perfectly, but the risotto lacked flavor. Pretty bland. As I ate it, I kept thinking that someone forgot to add salt. So, OK, but wouldn't go back for this dish. My wife ordered the Coq Au Vin. This was the best dish of the night. The chicken was tender and came off the bone easily, the polenta was good, as were the few chunks of carrots and potato. The sauce was excellent. Rich and flavorful. The service was less than expected. The waitress checked in only once and it was just after our entrees arrived, so her "how is it?" was a bit premature. We didn't have a chance to answer after we had actually been eating (maybe that was the strategy). We also noticed that the wait staff was substantial for the size of the restaurant, so we would have expected a bit more attention. The wait staff seemed to congregate near the service station near the bathrooms every few minutes and talk among themselves, seemingly more interested in gossiping with one another (we were seated close to this area) than in the customers. Not what we expected from an upscale restaurant. So, if you're looking for a nice place to spend your hard earned money for a nice dinner, keep looking. Atmosphere: OK, a bit cramped, a bit noisy in room near bar. Food: OK (Coq Au Vin a bright spot) Service: Disappointing (inattentive; more interested in each other than the customers) Recommend or Return: Unlikely

Yelp
Great Place! Had a party of 10 and the service and food were fantastic! The bar has a good selection.

Yelp
Malt might not look as fun as The Fifth Element bar & grill across the way, but the menu is wayy better if you're looking for a great dinner!! We started with the Thai Shrimp Nachos which everyone on Yelp recommended and they were so full of flavor, I wish they came in a bigger size! The Fish and Chips were also some of the best we've had! The portion of fish was huge and it had a light fried coating. It came with jojos instead of regular fries, and a small side of coleslaw. We tried the Peach Salad, which also had arugula, watermelon, and feta. It was a nice and light summer salad. We also ordered Grilled Steak Panini and upgraded the side to truffle fries, which were nice and crispy but didn't taste that much like truffle so would not recommend. The Pan Roasted Cod Risotto was also creamy and good. The fish was light and flaky. For dessert, we all just shared the Malt Bomb, which was a decadent way to finish off the meal. The service was fantastic and I would definitely recommend Malt if you're coming to Newport!

Sandra S.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to dine outdoors on a Saturday night and happened to find Malt - so glad we did! The beer selection was great and the food was quite good! The goat cheese beignets are delicious (even though they are more croquettes than beignets). Highly recommend the cod risotto and fish and chips. Price is right and service was excellent.

Yelp
Could not believe how packed this place was for a Monday night! And still we lucked out with great seats (see pic). Very easy going for a group with toddlers too. We got the fish & chips (these chips are wedges), and a bowl of delicious muscles. Not sure if it's on the menu but we also got spaghetti for the kids.

Yelp
Wow! What an amazing location. I really wanted to take a screenshot of my food but my wife literally finish my plate so fast/it was SO DELICIOUS!(Southern Fried chicken sandwich) Great customer service..you know what - Superb customer service! Our Waiter was AMAZING and actually the whole stuff are just so great. I highly highly recommend this place to everyone that likes amazing food and amazing customer service. 10 star review! Great job guys and thank you so much for such a great experience

Yelp
From the second our group walked in, without reservations, Malt impressed. The staff was kind, attentive, and fun. The ambience was very warm and comfortable, prefect for great conversation. Malt has a fairly large NA beer list if you're looking for that. My friends that ordered regular beer said they enjoyed their selections. The food was perfect. I always have a hard time passing up risotto and the Cod risotto was delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the risotto was creamy and perfectly made. The portion was a little smaller than I was expecting, but I came in starving. I think it was perfectly portioned for the price, just should have ordered an app or bowl of clam chowder (my friend said his was delicious). Everyone at my table enjoyed their meal. Price was very reasonable. Think including tip it was around $40. Do yourself a favor and stop by Malt. And I highly recommend the cod risotto. If your not looking for fish my friend ordered the chicken plate and really enjoyed it. I'd give it 5.5 stars if I could.

Samantha E.

Yelp
I would honestly give this no stars if I could. we waited 15 min for a drink that tasted like straight rubbing alcohol. when we finally put our food order in, and we waited 30 min before we called it quits and asked for the check (we never saw our food). Ordered the "clam chowder" it had flavor but it was basically a potato soup. Staff was unapologetic, overall terrible experience. Would never recommend.

Yelp
I LOVED THIS RESTAURANT!!! Atmosphere is cozy and modern, such a cute and quaint little area. There's a separate bar area from the just dining room area more towards the back (it's a long and skinny room). Separates crowd nicely. Pretty busy on a Saturday night in may. Fast and helpful service, and they allow splitting dishes; the even cut a burger in half for you! Ordered the best scallops of my life. And a chicken pita sandwich was. To. Die. For. Oh my god I can't wait to come back

Yelp
I'd really like to give this place a better review and, based on the other reviews I see on Yelp about Malt, perhaps my wife and I simply experienced the place on a bad day, but....man, it was a really bad day. We arrived to the restaurant for Sunday brunch and were surprised to see the place was nearly empty. It took a bit for someone to come to seat us, but the woman who did so was friendly and accommodating and, unfortunately, that's where most of my positive comments end. The service was indifferent...simple things like we weren't asked if we want water, we weren't asked how our food was... Our food arrived VERY quickly...I'm assuming because the kitchen wasn't doing much else. Honestly, we both wished they'd taken a bit longer and done a better job. My omelette was overcooked and very, very salty (even for me, with an admitted salt tooth). My wife's fish and chips were just disappointing; thick, gummy batter over underwhelming white fish. We each finished about half of our plates and politely asked for the check. As mentioned above, no one asked us anything about our meals the entire time. I don't think we'll be going back and, as mentioned above, I sincerely hope we caught them on a bad day.

Yelp
The place wasnt to great. The burger was burnt and the place had a old dusty smell. After my experience eating there my stomach hurt for hours after eating. Wouldn't recommend for anyone in the area.

Jeff W.

Yelp
I usually really enjoy Malt. The food and liquor choices are excellent. But today, the bartender is phoning it in. She is not engaged and isn't making drinks the way they are described on the menu. For example, I ordered a "New Mexican", which is supposed to be anejo tequila, a fire roasted jalapeño, lime juice, fresh berries, and agave nectar. Instead, I got silver tequila, no roasted jalapeño, and simple syrup. Why? "Because it tastes better" than what's on the menu. Really? Then tell me that when I order instead of letting me down when you deliver it. Her version was meh.

Stefan W.

Yelp
A colossal disappointment. We've been to Malt a few times, but our last visit will exactly that. This place is just not what it used to be. Goat cheese "beignet" was nothing but a blob of cheese, breaded and deep fried (hint, that's a "croquette, not a beignet). Burger was "ok", but nothing special. Fish and chips were a disgrace to Newport - so greasy it dripped on the plate, and fish wasn't flakey but mealy instead (a clear a sign of using frozen fish and frying it without defrosting it properly). French fries were also floppy and greasy. Service was "ok", but not amazing. We sent the fish back, and then had to wait 1/2 hour for them to drum up a simple panini (which was "ok" but again, nothing special). No apologies were made on the inedible food.

Yelp
I stopped into malt on a Wednesday night for a last meal before flying home. I had some other places in mind but as soon as I saw the coq au vin in other yelp reviews I knew this was the place to be. The food didn't disappoint. The cocktails were fun and well mixed. I got. "Malt Whitman" a take on an old fashioned with cherry brandy. Very well balanced and not too sweet. The mussels were excellent and not chewy, very fresh and lots of garlic! The coq au vin was incredibly tender and flavorful. Apparently it has been on the menu since the chef started there almost 5 years ago. I mentioned that I would be heading back to Tokyo and didn't know when I would be back in Rhode Island, and the wait staff surprised me with a dessert. Their "chocolate bomb" is three inches of mousse on a chocolate crumble base covered in a thick ganache. Incredible. Excellent service, great food, caring staff. I will definitely be visiting again.

Jamie P.

Yelp
Food & service! Calamari was delicious, the fries were delicious, and the cod with risotto was amazing.

Yelp
Delicious food and friendly environment. The espresso martinis are my favorite! The small plates are great to eat as a meal or share with friends. The shrimp Thai nachos have the perfect amount of spice. Tapas are so so, I would try something else instead.

Yelp
We decided to spend Friday night in Newport and someone gave my sister in law a few recommendations and Malt was one of them. On the way down we got nervous that there would not be availability to eat there so I called ahead and asked if they had availability for 7:30 for four people and they quickly accommodated us. We arrived and the place is really cute and cozy and is definitely a great date night spot! It is small but it did not feel cramped in any way. I think the menu had a good mix of items to appease any type of eater. They had a good draft beer menu as well with local offerings which I always love. My sister in law and I both got the Pan Roasted Cod which our server raved about and it did not disappoint! The Cod was a generous portion, tasted fresh, was perfectly cooked. It was served over a creamy mushroom risotto which was also cooked perfectly and was decadent! I would come back the 40 minutes to Newport just for this dish! Do yourself a favor and order this is you like seafood. My fiance ordered fish and chips which again was super fresh and cooked well! I tried to take pictures but it was later in the evening and the ambiance didn't make for the best pictures which again is why its such a good date night spot. We will be back!!

Yelp
Wonderful food and service. Our waiter, Steve, was great. Very nice and good recommendations for food. Clam chowder was delicious as well as the pear salad. Would go back here for sure.

Yelp
Very nice staff. Friendly service and good burgers. Like a notch up from pub bar food.
