La Malvasia, Arico Viejo, Tenerife - Explore & Book

"We spent ages looking for a stylish family option in Tenerife's sunny south - dodging the crass mega-resorts and the poky casas rurales - and by the time we unearthed this, all 3 of its pretty cottages were full. Of course they were. With their spacious interiors (each comfortably sleeps 4-6 in 3 bedrooms), their playful decor, their well equipped kitchens and large shared pool, it's just what the island has been crying out for.But that didn't stop us. After a lazy morning on Poris de Abona's empty beach with buckets and frisbees, we drove the 6km up to Arico Viejo and buzzed at La Malvasia's gate for a tantalising nosey round. A gravel track led through healthy vineyards of listan blanco (as they are known here) to the 150-year-old finca, where the busy-bee owner Martín Rodríguez de Azero y de Ponte awaited us. Expect inviting leather sofas and woodburners, clean pastel lines with a touch of old stone, the odd Oriental print or huge teak-framed mirror. Views roll down to the cobalt sea, and across cactus-specked farmland to the pretty hamlet of Arico Nuevo - home to a lovely little restaurant. Above you looms Mt. Teide, all pine forests and lunar rocks; below you a string of beaches. Highs If you want a reasonably stylish yet affordable holiday in a perma-sunny part of the world, with an uncrowded beach nearby, bingo! The pool and sundeck are glorious: we could imagine spending most of the day here with the kids, retreating to the covered chill-out area for drinks and shade timeBedrooms are good-sized, with comfy double or twin beds, ensuite bathrooms and plenty of wardrobe space, so you can really spread outWe loved the beach of Playa de Punta beyond Poris: flat sands, sheltered waters, and we had it to ourselves for 3 hoursIt's only half an hour from the airport, and there's no shortage of flights from all around Europe Lows Service is minimal: Martin doesn't live on site, and the caretaker (weekday mornings only) speaks little EnglishMaintenance is not the best in the world - some peeling paint or cracked plaster here and there - but this is the CanariesKitchens are rather spartan and supplies are minimal; buy basics like salt and tea towels from local shopsArico Viejo is not a pretty village, but Arico Nuevo (1km away) is a jewel; and both feel a world away from the purpose-built resorts just round the coastBe aware that you share the pool and grounds with the other guests (mostly families), and rooms aren't air conditioned" - Michael Cullen

We were overwhelmed by the spacious, immaculately presented accommodation and the peaceful well tended garden that surrounded it. The pool is shared with the residents of the adjacent apartments but there was plenty of privacy throughout the complex. We were able to relax fully on the shared patio in front of the properties and in the private garden/yard at the back. Inside, the kitchen area was well equipped. The location of the complex is perfect, there are views to the sea, which is 5 km away and easy access to many beaches along the coast, using the main TR1 highway. It is also an easy walk into the village where there is a small shop and a few restaurants etc. Cristina is an excellent host and very responsive to questions etc. Overall I cannot fault the place and would definitely go there again.

We had such a beautiful and peaceful stay at La Malvasia. ||If you are happy to drive ( it is only half an hour from the airport but you will need a car to go to the beach, sightseeing etc) you will be rewarded with complete rustic luxury. We were a group of friends and so it was perfect for each of the three bedrooms in our cottage to have ensuite bathrooms. There is so much space in all the rooms , especially the kitchen, it stays cool indoors ( there are fans in the bedrooms however) and outside there are so many places to relax and enjoy the views. The pool and the sun beds are lovely, there are also lots of shaded areas too. This isn’t a touristy part of the island ( it can get windy at times) but you are ten minutes drive away from the nearest ( local) beach and from the motorway that takes you around the island. We loved it . It is also incredibly good value. We felt like millionaires ( even though we certainly aren’t!)

Stayed here on Jan 15th for 3 nights. Sadly had to move after one as the area didn't suit what we came to Tenerife to do. Such a shame as the place is amazing sand I would recommend it to anyone. Equally the owners were incredibly helpful to us. Hopefully we will return another time

I stayed here during a retreat. Received 2 towels that were never changed and ran out of toilet paper and had to use paper towel from the kitchen. No house keeping the whole time. The pool is unheated and in February it should be. Other rooms had no heat and broken and cold showers. Those guests ended up taking showers in my room. My room had a heater (a metal plate on the wall) but it did not keep the room warm enough and is not safe for children. Beds are hard and I understand that guests have requested this but at no time was I offered a softer mattress. The house is nicely located and well maintained.

Can't recommend this place more highly. 6 of us stayed in Lagar, one of the three houses that share a beautiful, warm and sheltered pool which our children loved. The spot is so relaxing, with great views of the valley and neighbouring village Arico Neuvo. Cristina was such a helpful host without being a "hovering" one. Lagar is spacious (plenty of room for 3 adults and 3 children), spotless, beautifully furnished, very comfortable (especially the beds) and so so peaceful. Treat to have 3 bathrooms! Excellent wifi. The nearest beach is just 6km away, with plenty of others in easy reach, all very different. If you want to enjoy all that beautiful Tenerife has to offer but with the advantage of staying away from the hustle and bustle of the big hotels, this is the place for you.

We spent a magical week here exploring the wild natural side of Tenerife by bicycle and car. The houses, pool and terraced areas are designed to retain a local rustic feel whilst being stylish and playful. The views of the mountains all around and the ocean below are stunning. The lovely owner Cristina and her right hand woman Nieves paid attention to every detail even delivering a warm homemade tortilla to us in our arrival! ||||The bike rides we had from La Malvasia were amongst some of the best we’ve had in the world with gentle undulating routes towards Fasnia and more challenging climbs up Teide via Granadilla and Vilaflor. And what a treat to have such smooth, peaceful roads with friendly considerate local drivers! ||||We can’t recommend this place highly enough if you enjoy peaceful rural beauty whilst not being too far from the sophisticated North and the many attractions of the South.

Stayed here twice now in 2 different houses and both were great. Huge spaces, nice communal area, pool is great. Very quiet and relaxing. Everything clean and modern and really like the rustic design. Close to a very good rock climbing area too!
