"A taste of home This is one for when you are feeling homesick: Mama’s is a welcoming, American-style bakery run by ex-banker Matt and his Italian wife Cristina who serve up (delicious) freshly-baked bagels, muffins, cheesecake and other specialties from across the pond. Birthday cakes, pumpkin pies and other special occasion cakes are made to order and savoury choices include club sandwiches, filled baguettes, salads and soups. Mama’s is a reference point for Florence’s Anglo-American community, so it’s a useful place to meet other travelers and source local information."

No complaints! Really yummy and was a good break from sauce and cheese. Inside is really cute. Great place to drink a coffee and do some computer work. Outside area is nice and there’s an inside that overlooks with floor to ceiling windows. Staff were very friendly and brought our food to our table! Enjoyed

Brewed coffee is delicious as is the banana walnut bread. Nice courtyard in the back to sit and enjoy. Very nice people also!

Google
One of the best bagels I’ve ever had. Good selection of a variety of cream cheeses to pair with their perfectly toasted bagels. Quaint little courtyard for outdoor seating is also an added plus. Highly recommend!

Google
Truly the best bagels in Florence. Sometimes all you want is a bagel with cream cheese. And they have all the classic bagel choices with flavors of cream cheese. The atmosphere is calm and the staff are friendly and relaxed. Love this place. Seems like a great place to hangout and have a slow brunch.

Google
One of my favorite places to get a bagel in Florence, Italy. I love this place to study, gather with friends, and eat some good food. They are very welcoming to English speaking people and students studying abroad so I am sure they are welcoming to everyone! I recommend this for people who are visiting any days from Wednesday to Sunday!

Google
A fantastic bakery with a very friendly and relaxing vibe. Mama’s Bakery not only has the best bagels i’ve had in Florence in my opinion, but many great options to choose from. I got Mama’s special, on a soft delicious bagel made with quality ingredients. My cappuccino was pleasant with a nice subtle flavor. A great spot to get your bagel fix, and chill with some nice garden scenery!

I needed a cookie cake for a birthday celebration and Mama's Bakery was more than accommodating and was able to communicate with me via WhatsApp. The cake came out great, exactly how we wanted and was fairly priced!

Google
Ordered a cappuccino, a bagel with cream cheese and a pastry and the bill came out to $5. Not the best bagel i’ve ever had but it curbed my craving, plus I haven’t been able to find other places that serve it. Great place to sit and relax. Very spacious interior and looked like it had an outside area out back. Employees were nice as well. Overall had a great experience here!

Yelp
During a 5 week stay in Italy, I stopped here to purchase some yummy desserts for a dinner party at my Italian friend's home. I selected this bakery because it had good reviews and was only a couple blocks from my apartment. When I arrived at my friend's with an armload of Mama's goodies they said, "Oh, you went to the American bakery!" Me : Huh? I did? Of course I (an American) had somehow stumbled into probably the only American bakery in Florence. (To be fair, they may bake a lot of American style treats, but it is staffed and frequented by mostly locals. The cashier graciously went and found the one staff member who spoke English to help me. Very kind.) I had ordered about a dozen different items - cookies, brownies, pies - and we all had a great time sampling them after dinner. Every single one was absolutely delicious! B O T T O M L I N E : Go! Cozy spot, lots of seating, great food, and friendly staff!

Yelp
Great food. Great ambiance. Sat outside. Fresh, fresh, fresh. We enjoyed ourselves and the food very much. Grazie Nicolo & Masi.

Yelp
LOVE mama's bakery! Amazing food and such kind staff. One of my favorite places to study in Florence, and the best place to get a bagel.

Yelp
My roommate and I were looking for more of a sit down breakfast spot and decided on Mamas Bakery as our first choice. Overall, I think you have to take this place for what it is: an American bakery with American food, a Nespresso machine for coffee, plastic tables and basic wall art. This being said, it was a pretty good spot for breakfast. There was nothing fundamentally bad about it, but the whole experience was an overwhelming "okay" for me. The place was uncrowded when we walked in and there is a beautiful view of a garden in the seating area. My roommate got the avocado toast which was delicious, but my Brie sandwich was not as good as I would've hoped. As for the coffee, I really can't go back to American coffee after tasting Italian cappuccinos. Mamas Bakery is a great place if you're looking for a quiet breakfast or snack, but maybe not if you're looking for the authentic Florence experience.

Yelp
Lovely little cafe. Perfect to relax while walking around the oltrarno. Delicious coffee (café et coffee if you're American.) I had a wonderful chicken salad, warm with a mustard dressing. Worth walking a bit to find this charming spot with a garden view inside. Will be back.

Yelp
Not my favorite breakfast or lunch spot in Florence but it was pretty good. staff is all super warm and welcoming and I would definitely feel special orders here if looking for a place.

Yelp
I am so in love with this place. If they had Wifi I swear I'd be here all day. Best place to come in Florence for bagels and american style baked goods. They often have special types of quiches and savory casserole dishes. But their cupcakes are awesome and I love the brownies too. The coffee (american style) is OK too, although I prefer something a bit stronger ... Besides the food, why I keep coming back is because the bakery is big and spacious, lots of seating and an outdoor seating area. Big windows, always a table available, even during rush lunch hour. Like I said IF they had WiFi I would come more often ; ) HINT HINT M Bakery! I'm not holding my breath though ... it's been more than three years and still no wifi. I love this chill place and the staff is always friendly accommodating. Gotta come here for breakfast or a late afternoon sweet snack!

Yelp
It's easy to get lost trying to find Mama's Bakery (ask me, I got lost nearly every time I went, and I lived there!), but once you find it you're glad you toughed it out. It's hard to make out from the street, right until you're standing in front of it. This was one of my go-to places for those moments when I just really, REALLY wanted a bagel sandwich or a cupcake. Or a cookie. *ahem* I went here with my girlfriends for bagels and coffee, so I have many fond memories here. A good amount of the word-of-mouth advertising is directed towards the expat community and study abroad schools, so if you're looking for a place that feels a bit more like home then look no further. Love the coffee and tea refills too =)

Yelp
Decent. They sell "American coffee" here, no espresso. The muffins we had here were quite good, though, but the selection was somewhat limited. Staff was great.
google avatar

Tina S.

Yelp
The eggs benedict here is amazing. I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that the best brunch I have had in Florence is from a cafe! Will be back to eat the eggs benedict again and try the french toast!!
google avatar

Jerry B.

Yelp
Great egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel. Regular American coffee as well if you've had enough espresso and cappuccino! Nice staff, bakery items looked good but didn't try.

Yelp
My first experience with mamas wasn't the best. The blueberry muffin was super dry. Now I have a new found love. The everything bagel with butter and strawberry jam sings to my heart. And something new at the bakery...home make twix bars AMAZING

Yelp
Delicious salmon bagel and lovely service. Cute courtyard in the back and they offer the ever important free wifi!!!
google avatar

Albert G.

Yelp
Great American/Italian mix of flavor! It's hard to find somewhere where they actually sell actual breakfast, but this does! This place is pretty sweet!

Alexis W.

Yelp
Stopped in on our way out of Florence for the weekend, and we all had the BEST eggs Benedict. This place was cute, quaint, and everyone spoke English. Very reasonably priced

Yelp
My husband and I got a Nutella bagel and a scone to share. They were both delicious! This place is super cute, clean and staff was nice.

Yelp
Mama's is your all-American traditional bakery where they have all goods such as muffins, cupcakes, sandwiches, bagels and coffee. I've had their black coffee twice and it's just what I expected (plus if you are a student studying at the Accent center in Santo Spirito, they have some days where they give free coffee!). I've had a chocolate cupcake with cream cheese frosting and a red velvet cupcake here and they both were good, but not amazing; a regular sized cupcake is 2.5 euro and a mini cupcake (yes, VERY mini) is 0.80 euro. I would probably come back to try their sandwiches and bagels if I want my American fix for lunch, but it's so hard to even crave those items when there are so many traditional and delicious Italian food places around that offer bigger portions for either the same or cheaper price as a sandwich or bagel here. However, compared to other American bakeries in Florence, Mama's is definitely up there. They have little chips to snack on and plenty of seating here! It's also easy to miss; the first time I came here I walked right past it and didn't even notice. Kinda cool that the owner is from California also and relates well to the students who are studying abroad in Florence.

Rollins L.

Yelp
I wish I liked this place. They have American sized coffee, but it's very watered down. You're better off paying the same price for a smaller, Italian style coffee somewheee else (Volume, Ditta, Le Menagere, Libreria Cafe la Cita). The place is cute & good to hang out & get work done -- cute side room that glass windows that over look a pretty grass courtyard. Employees aren't very nice. They cater to American students and it's pretty much full of American college girls every time I go in. Not authentic Italian coffee experience.

Yelp
Found this gorgeous spot via Yelp! Very warm ambience! Great breakfast! Bagels with jams, cream cheese, paninis, eggs Benedict, French toast, club sandwiches, American coffee and great sweet indulgences! Self serve, wifi, cosy sitting areas overlooking a courtyard! Very unexpected! Very gratifying! Will make it a point to come back!

Rachel M.

Yelp
Food was very good and decently priced. French toast is absolutely amazing and fluffy. Sandwiches and sweets look very good as well. They have a ramp, so they are stroller and handicap accessible. They only seem to do big breakfasts on the weekends, but they're bagels and sandwiches are still tasty and large portions!
google avatar

Floriana S.

Yelp
Sunday brunch at Mama's Bakery: benedict eggs + spicy carrot cupcake + cofee. The cupcake was fab, cinnamon flavoured and a delicate soft cheese cream topping...and then, a visit to Picasso exhibition. Great Sunday!!

Yelp
I see others have given this place 4 stars only because there is no WiFi. Well, they've changed that! So five stars from me If you're American and live in Florence and have had it up to your eyeballs with brioche and cappuccio, get yourself to Mama's. I admit to not having had anything other than bagels here so I cannot speak to the other baked goods. I still need to make a trip for lunch. Note that they do take cards but with a 5€ minimum.

Yelp
First of all it's a great idea, there wasn't such a place in Florence and I feel that just this deserves a good score. Food is very nice, maybe it's not the same bagel that you can get in the US but to my experience it's a very close match. Being an intercontinental traveller I can say that compared to other foreign cusines/food served in Italy, Mama's Bakery get's very close to the "real deal". Only note of demerit is prices, they are quite high for what it's served, after all Italy is a bread and pastry country, so competition is there. It's fine to pay a premium for new ideas and food, but maybe they overdid it a little. Still it's a grat place to go to!

Yelp
A wonderful little place (with courtyard seating) for American (and all) students studying in Florence. Great bagels and overall great cafe. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
CALLING ALL HOMESICK ABROAD STUDENTS! If you are studying abroad or even just a local Florentine wanting some American culture you must go to Mamas Bakery. They have American coffee (not just a shot class that they call a cup), bagels, yogurt, smoothies and more. It is very spacious and a great place to study (I am currently at Mamas writing this review lol).
google avatar

Gracie L.

Yelp
Good place if you're craving a bagel, and they have ground coffee not espresso. Also a variety of salads and sandwiches
google avatar

Scott P.

Yelp
Definitely an American hang out. Free wifi and bottomless American coffee. Quiche was delicious as were the strawberry and banana muffin. Loved their attempt at a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. Very roomy with a salon overlooking a walled in courtyard. Everyone was friendly and spoke English.

Yelp
Italy is known for its endless options of delicious croissants, pastries and cappuccinos. However, when you are traveling for long periods of time, sometimes all you really want is a good old-fashioned American bagel with cream cheese to remind you of home. Mama's Bakery has American style bagels and coffee that is prepared fresh. The owner is always incredibly friendly and willing to chat about his experiences coming from California to Florence, Italy. The bakery also has board games and is a great place to relieve stress and relax in a foreign country. If you are in Florence and missing home, this is a great place to visit.

Yelp
Really really sweet people with good food and reasonable prices. Went back multiple times over the course of our trip and they even called a taxi for us on the last day! Great place to grab a quick bite or hang out and do some reading. Can't recommend enough!

Sean K.

Yelp
Mama's Bakery is a welcome safe haven for visitors looking for a respite from the Italian standard breakfast of espresso and croissant (though these can be had here too). What makes Mama's stand out is the authentic American style coffee and bagels... not just watered down espresso, but true brewed coffee that is delicious! The bagels are also quite good, especially the selection of breakfast sandwiches made on them... we sampled the lox and cream cheese, BLT, and a tasty number made with prosciutto, tomato, pesto, and buffalo mozzarella. There is ample seating, both in the main shop area as well as an adjoining windowed area that opens onto an indoor courtyard... very nice! We had breakfast here two mornings in a row during our stay in Florence and it was superb both times.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast! I stayed in a hostel nearby and they did not offer breakfast, so I tried this place based on the reviews. Great breakfast choices, especially for Americans who want our bagel and cream cheese. I got the bagel and cream cheese with fresh fruit, which was delish! The interior is adorable and modern. Menu is in english, as well! Also, the Internet is fast here. My WiFi at my hostel is extremely slow so I will probably be back to do work. Will come again. Thanks Mama!

Yelp
I am a fan of mama's bakery and I often head there to meet with friends for lunch since it has opened. They serve a variety of American & Italian treats such as a variety of bagels with flavored cream-cheese, quiche, a club sandwich to die for - hellooo crispy bacon!, seasonal soups & salads, paninos, and really fabulous desserts. My favorites happen to be the lemon bar, cheesecake and cinnamon rolls. Coffee is fantastic ( I do wish they had an iced-coffee version for the summer ) and is like a true caffe americano. The ambiance is quite nice and it's the perfect place to meet a friend or take a break from roaming the city with a book. It can be pricey but I justify it by the fact that what they sell, unlike other places that sell American food, is actually really good. Plus they have avocado in some of their sandwiches which makes them winners in my book!

K P.

Yelp
Ah, I really want to give this place five stars, but I can't for one big reason that I'll mention soon. First of all, I love this place. It reminds me of home. Sometimes I really want just a huge cup of regular, American coffee with a kickass bagel and cream cheese. This is the place to come. I always get the everything bagel because, let's be real, it's the best kind of bagel. Somehow they manage to toast the bagel to wear it's super crunchy but there are no char marks anywhere. It's perfectly crispy and I love that they slather it in delicious cream cheese that isn't so heavy that it tastes gross to eat gobs of it. I always get the jalapeno cream cheese and it is absolutely mouthwatering. I crave it all the time. The coffee is great too, especially if you get it fresh, when the pot is refilled. And I definitely think the pricing is fair. The one big downside: I am so unimpressed by their baked goods. I got a muffin that was just "eh." My roommate got a cupcake and said it wasn't anything great and she also once got a cinnamon roll that was hard and crunchy, not soft and warm. While I think they have their bagels and bagel sandwiches down (some of the best I've had; better than Noah's in America), the treats leave something to be desired. Also, there is no wifi which sucks but is also understandable. It's a really busy place so if students were there doing homework for hours it would be an inconvenience to other customers. But at the same time, it's advertised as being an America cafe, and in American cafes usually students flock there to do homework. The last time I was there my friend and I felt pressured to leave because other people were standing around wanting a table. So I guess the other downside is that it's small and kind of off-the-beaten-path. But, a tip, is to go early. We went once at about 10:30 and it was dead. It's around noon when it gets packed. So all in all, I love Mama's Bakery. I just wish they could accommodate more people and students who want a place to study as well as stepping up their baked goods game.

Yelp
Used to come here all the time when we lived on Via Seralggli. Found it almost right after it opened. Still had some kinks to iron out. Now it's smooth sailing. Bagels are good . Salmon and cream cheese a good healthy serving. It can get crowded at lunch. Coffee is Americano and good. Have never tired their other backed goods.
google avatar

Jennie A.

Yelp
Was so nice and fun to get a delicious bagel and drip coffee! Nice atmosphere that you could bring your laptop to study. Very nice staff as well. I'm sure I will be back many times
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
Great Bagels. Went here 3 times for a bagel and cup of coffee. Coffee was American style just like home. Place is probably owned by Americans. Great choice of cream cheeses and bagels were only 1 euro.

Ryan O.

Yelp
Classic American bagel shop in Florence! They have good bagels with a great selection of cream cheese spreads and different sandwiches! Highly recommend the veggie cream cheese or a sandwich like their turkey club. Also the coffee is great and if your studying abroad they may do free coffee for you one day of the week (for my program it was on Tuesday)

Caroline C.

Yelp
Great American bagels. Recommend getting the chicken avocado and ranch bagel sandwich it was delicious

C S.

Yelp
If I were a local, I think I'd love this spot. Good seating, casual array of options, decent price point. The menu is pretty American though, so if you're looking for more of an "Italian" experience, I'd try something else!
google avatar

Amiria R.

Yelp
A wonderful bakery right around the corner from my apartment! Mama's is settled in an awesome location in Florence, far enough from the Duomo to feel off the beaten path, but close enough to the Arno and San Sprinto to be easy to find. Mama's bagels and drip coffee are a God send for Americans studying in Europe!

Miranda H.

Yelp
Great place to get work done or have a coffee with a friend. They do have free wifi and they only serve American coffee. I had a slice of their Oreo cake which was stellar.

Natalie R.

Yelp
As a student studying in Florence this is the perfect place to go when you're looking for a taste of American breakfast/bunch. The bagels are only 1 euro and their cream cheese is great. It has a lot of seating but forewarning there's no wifi. I'd definitely recommend this place you can't really go wrong ordering wise, it's all delicious!
