Mama Shelter Lille (Lille, Hauts-de-France) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The capital of French Flanders has a down-to-earth bohemian spirit that sets it apart from other cities in France: Lille, home to the largest flea market in Europe, is the kind of place where people order beer instead of wine. Mama Shelter Lille, a colorful boutique hotel in the historic center, mirrors that energy. Though all the guest rooms are private — and outfitted with luxurious amenities like satin sheets, sophisticated lighting, and huge flat-screen TVs with movies on demand — the place brings back memories of staying in a youth hostel, thanks to the convivial atmosphere, the busy rooftop terrace, and the graffiti-like urban art that graces many public spaces. Choose from a compact Small Mama room, or splash out on the top-end XXL Mama suite with striking skylights illuminating a living room decorated with animal prints and pop art. A lively restaurant hosts a popular weekend brunch and offers sidewalk seating, while DJs spin sets on the terrace after dark." - Tablet Hotels

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5/5) Mama Shelter Lille is a vibrant and lively hotel that really captures the fun, playful spirit the brand is known for. The XXL room we stayed in was impressively spacious — stylishly designed with modern touches, cozy bedding, and plenty of room to relax. The location is another huge plus, perfectly situated near the train station and the city center, making it easy to explore Lille on foot. The breakfast was also a highlight — fresh, plentiful, and full of variety, from pastries and fruit to hot dishes and great coffee. However, while the overall atmosphere was enjoyable, a few key issues made the stay less comfortable than it could have been. When the room experienced a blackout and power trip, the recovery process was disappointingly slow. It took quite some time before the issue was addressed, largely because there didn’t seem to be any technical staff on-site to handle it promptly. This was frustrating, especially given the level of service one would expect from a well-known hotel brand. The air conditioning was another letdown. It barely seemed to work, leaving the room uncomfortably warm and stuffy, particularly during the night. Even with the windows open, there wasn’t enough ventilation to cool the space down properly, which made sleeping difficult. Overall, Mama Shelter Lille has the potential to be an excellent stay — the design is modern and fun, the food is great, and the location couldn’t be better. But the lack of technical support and weak air conditioning really affected the comfort level. With a bit more attention to maintenance and faster problem-solving, it could easily go from good to great. As it stands, it’s a stylish and convenient hotel with charm — but one that still needs a bit more substance behind the style

Quirky hotel, with great food and good bar, DJs in the evening when we stayed. Quiet rooms overlooking the city - clean, welcoming staff. Nice atmosphere. Beds comfy and nice bathrooms. Good for the price.

it is a great hotel with a very unique and trendy decoration style! Has great quality of breakfast and the restaurant is also super good! the location is 5 minutes from the center! Parking unfortunately is not free and an overnight stay costs 35 euros even for a resident... so keep that in mind

The hotel itself was lovely, and the lady at reception was especially welcoming and friendly. Our room was beautifully decorated with a unique and charming style.||The location is excellent - very easy to access by car and situated in a nice area.||One downside was the breakfast: unfortunately, all the hot items (eggs, pancakes, bacon) were cold. However, on the second morning, I opted for the cold options instead, which were fine.||The room felt quite stuffy, and the air conditioning wasn’t very effective, which made it a bit uncomfortable at times.||The most disappointing part of our stay was an experience in the restaurant on Tuesday around 2:30 PM. A staff member who served us lunch was extremely rude, laughing rudely at our questions and rolling their eyes when we responded. I asked him what was so funny and he said it was because my partner wanted water with his meal? It was upsetting enough that we chose not to dine at the restaurant again during our stay as it made me feel so awkward. ||Overall a nice stay, but wouldn’t stay here again due to the issues above and would opt for somewhere else.

Very nice and casual hotel. Great vibe and atmosphere. Perfect location in Lille. Staff very friendly and happy all day long. Good vibes here! Breakfast is unique and allows many options. Bar and dj were fun. And the retro gaming stations never get dull :-)

We had a nice stay here. They have secure parking, you can't book ahead but there was plenty of space when we arrived. Dog friendly and they don't charge extra for dogs, that said the room rate for our night was quite a lot. The hotel is ideally located on the edge of the town, it's a very short walk to the cobbled streets and squares. Staff are friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious and the bed was comfy. We ate dinner at the hotel, there was only one vegan option for main but it was delicious and a generous serving, it was a layered vegetable compote. I would stay here again.

Location is great for both train stations and a short walk to old Lille. Nice welcome and good service by front desk. Room ok, a bit spartan, bed was comfy with good pillows. Noisy first night, from the hotel, and then Pride week party -but we slept through. The shower was a bit mouldy which is not on really. Breakfast was good however very busy and only one coffee machine for 50+ people. Overall it could be great, just falls short a little.

I just return from a 2 night stay at Mama Shelter Lille. The hotel was conveniently located for both the Eurostar and the city with most things within a short walk.|When you arrive at the hotel you have to go up in a lift to get to reception and then a second list to get to the rooms.|The room was simple but clean and spacious enough. The had a small but nice bathroom, nice bedding, a decent hairdryer and a room safe. There were also a good number of well placed sockets and useful mirrors near sockets. For me personally there were two main negatives. The first was the air conditioning. When we arrived in Lille is was around 32 degrees C and very humid. I got to the room and the air-conditioning did not seem to work. I did not have time to fiddle with the controls for long as I needed to leave to meet friends. I assumed I had just not found the correct setting yet. I returned very late hoping to get a good night’s sleep, but it was far too hot in the room. The air conditioning still didn’t work. Overnight I was so hot and uncomfortable that I didn’t sleep at all. I resorted to opening my window to try to get some relief but just got bitten by mosquitos. That meant my main day in Lille was ruined as I had no sleep and was cover in bites.|The next morning, I spoke to reception, and they said they would get someone to look at it. She suggested that there is a central control outside of the room and it may need to be switched on. I went out for the day and returned around 4.30pm. Again, when I returned the air conditioning was not working. I called reception and they said they would send someone up. Within a few minutes, and before the maintenance staff arrived, the air conditioning started working. It was clear it had been centrally switched off. The air-conditioning was weak at best, but it did take the edge of the high temperature of the room and allowed me to sleep on my second night.|The second was that the water pressure was not adequate to use the rain head shower. Just a small trickle (insufficient to shower in) came from the shower head. Instead, I had to use the handheld shower to wash myself down which was not ideal.
