"From unlikely beginnings in an inauspicious corner of Paris to expansions across France and as far afield as Los Angeles and Rio, it’s been a journey for Mama Shelter — and now they’ve advanced to the east, first to Belgrade and now to Prague, that most pleasant and picturesque of Central European cities. And while the historic city center might be a bit quaint for Mama Shelter’s purposes, the hotel’s setting, in an up-and-coming neighborhood on the north side of the Vltava, provides just the right amount of perspective." - Tablet Hotels

Where to Stay in Prague (Updated 2025)

"Housed in a former Communist-era building, Mama Shelter has a funky, hipster vibe with comfy beds, clean large bathrooms, and a garden-level restaurant serving comfort grub — a stylish mid-range choice in Holešovice." - Matthew Kepnes

Like all Mama Shelters in Europe I've been in, this is a hip and modern hotel. Really nice rooms and comfortable beds. Great staff, good food and drink on 1st floor. No room service, so get out of your room and go eat with the other humans downstairs. Rooms do not have kettles or coffee pots and no tea/coffee or mugs even. So if you don't have a portable hot water maker, you'll have to again go downstairs for a coffee or tea. Minor tradeoff to an otherwise terrific hotel in a very walkable area with many shopping and dining options. Access to trams and buses to other key areas of Prague are very close and very reliable.

The hotel is so convenient with the trams to the city just outside and 10 minutes or so you are in the city centre. Having the ticket machine for trams in hotel lobby really good too. The fun has. fun vibe that covers all ages. As 60+ visitors we loved the pool and bar football tables in the lobby area that kept us amused many times a day. The room was really well played out and the fun masks on lights a nice touch. We had dinner one night in the restaurant and that was tasty and we were were well looked after. Certainly would recommend!

I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The hotel has modern furnishings and makes a very well-kept impression overall. The rooms are large, spacious, very clean and also modernly equipped, you immediately feel at home. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, making you feel well looked after at all times. The breakfast was also convincing: a good and varied selection. The location is also ideal: quiet, yet central. There are shops in the immediate vicinity and the city centre is only about 10 minutes away by train. All in all, I can definitely recommend the hotel and will be happy to come back when I get the chance.

Convenient location close to train station and tram stop and a short walk from Prague’s center. The restaurant is very good, the pizza was a standout for me: soft fluffy borders and good choice of toppings. The filter coffee in the morning was also surprisingly good. The hotel has decent meeting rooms with all the AV requirements you might need. Together with the restaurant open at lunch, it makes for a great choice for team get togethers.

Wonderful little quirky hotel, lots of funky decor. Little far out of the city, but the tram stop is right outside & takes around 10-15 minutes. Ticket machine in hotel for trams - very cheap. We got a 4 day ticket. Apparently this is a swingers hotel (which we don’t know when we booked it), there were a few things like soundproof walls, masks on the bedside tables, but it was very subtle so didn’t bother us. The hotel is so clean, staff are lovely. Would recommend.

This was our second one-night stay at this hotel, and our experience again began with a warm welcome from another young receptionist at the front desk. He was professional, efficient, and friendly, which made for a smooth check-in process. Our room, number 1019, was what we needed: spacious and clean. The room was well-appointed with a comfortable armchair, a large, comfy bed, and a big TV that faced the bed. We appreciated the complimentary bottled water and juice waiting for us. The view from our window was a nice surprise, offering an unobstructed look at some of the green parts of Prague. The TV had a good selection of movies in various languages, which was a nice touch. The only real issue we encountered, again, was with the soundproofing. We could easily hear other guests and housekeeping staff in the corridor. Nevertheless, we expected that and therefore it wasn't an unpleasant surprise this time around. We didn't get a chance to eat at the hotel or visit the terrace during our short stay. Despite the noise issue, we had a pleasant stay overall. In fact, we've already booked this hotel for our next trip to Prague.

I stayed here for 3 nights in September 2025. Staff were friendly at first, but the room had serious issues. The shower drain barely worked, there was no barrier between bathroom and room, and water flooded the carpet on the first night. The front desk only gave me towels and a staff member even admitted this happens often. We had to shower very carefully for the rest of the stay, and the room smelled of mold with no follow-up from the hotel. At checkout, the front desk called a private car instead of a proper taxi – we paid 490 CZK for a 7-minute ride that should cost about 160 CZK. Overall, very disappointing. I will not return. Thank you for your reply. However, I must clarify that I did keep the shower door closed during my stay. Despite that, water still leaked and flooded the carpet — this was a design or maintenance issue, not a guest misuse. The strong smell of mold that developed afterward, and the lack of follow-up from your team, were also not addressed in your response. As for the transfer, I understand it was a contracted service, but it should have been communicated clearly that the fixed price was much higher than the local taxi rate. Without transparency, guests will inevitably feel misled. If your technician or management would simply take a shower in that room themselves, they would immediately see the problem. This is not a matter of misunderstanding, but of accountability

We had an amazing time at Mama Shelter Prague! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the warm and friendly staff. Everyone we encountered was incredibly kind, helpful, and genuinely attentive to our needs. It really made our stay feel extra special. Our room was beautiful, with a stylish and cozy design that reflects the hotel’s fun and creative vibe. The view from our room was stunning, adding a lovely touch to our mornings and evenings. The whole atmosphere of the hotel is vibrant yet relaxing, perfect for a city break. We can’t recommend Mama Shelter enough — it truly exceeded our expectations, and we’d definitely stay here again on our next visit to Prague!
