Mama Woo's was pretty bomb. In my opinion the flavor of the side dishes create a heightened experience for the main dish. Yes I got the normal meat Jun but the Jap Chae was one of the best I have had in a while. Their kim chee was on point and the seaweed was not slimy like it was sitting around for a while in the marinade and wasn't over soaked in water. My friend got the fish Jun and he enjoyed it. I will be back! For everyone else take your pick off the menu board, with great customer service from the owner himself. Glad I choose this spot.

I used to frequent this restaurant 7-8 years ago when I worked nearby, but after changing jobs, I wasn't able to visit as often, though I sometimes missed it. Recently, I heard that it had a new owner, but the former cooking chef is same, so I decided to visit again. It was just like before - the same great taste and clean atmosphere! The new owner was also very kind. The chicken wings sauce was spicy but not greasy, like it was grilled over a fire, and delicious, so the whole family enjoyed it. The pork bulgogi and generous side dishes were also great. I'll definitely be stopping by more often! Highly recommended.

We always order food from Mama Woo's. We just love their food, service. It feels like we are family. For the first time I ordered the family pack and it is so worth the price, they give so much food. It fed all 8 of us and still had left overs.

Google
Glad I saw a YouTube video recommending this place. Not just is it a bang for your buck, the ladies working there are so nice and smiley. We got a mini plate and even that was a big box. I love that customers get to pick 4 different ban chains for variety.

I been to oahu many times and I love plate Lunches .. staple of hawaiian foods! But mama woo's is on another level! Food portion is more then enough, price is fair, but the taste was the on another level! Meat jun and meatball meat jun was crazy food! Young owner is friendly and willing to do whatever it takes to make sure the food is perfect! I highly recommend

Google
Tasty homemade Korean food but the process was a little hectic and confusing during peak dinner time. You order from an overhead menu, choose three sides cafeteria style which they scoop right away and then stack until the kitchen makes your main. I went in for two dinner plates (fish jun and bulgogi )and decided to add soup and squid. Everything comes with sides so I ended up with enough food for 5-6 people! The bulgogi and seaweed soup were really good as were most of the sides. It’s standing room only inside so if you can, I would suggest ordering ahead. There were a couple of people waiting when I arrived but the phone kept ringing off the hook as they took our orders. Pandemonium! but more so for us watching I think. Somehow they keep track of all the orders by writing on the boxes. They had a little slip up with my order and apologized profusely for the wait. It didn’t take that long but there were people waiting outside when I left.

I have been buying take away every once in a while over a few years and they have been always friendly and very casual (in Korean way). In 2023 price for almost everything has gone up but this place hasn't changed the price compared to about 1 year ago. The potion is still generous. Good choices for protein and can have great amount of veggies too. Love this place. Take away only.

Yelp
The original Mama Woo has retired. I've been eating her food since she was next to Costco tire shop Hawaii Kai, so at least 2 decades. Initially I heard mixed reviews, like the food wasn't as good anymore now that there's a new owner so I stayed away. Then one day a few months ago I really wanted meat Jun so I gave it a try AND GUESS WHAT? CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED. Thank you new owners! This is KEY, because the original owners were cash only for the last 25 yrs, and a lot of times I avoided this place because I don't have cash. BANCHANS are better! It's like they took all her recipes and made it just a little better! The eggplant is definitely better now, and the potato salad is perfect! Cabbage and greens are tasty. Dang everything is better. MEAT JUN is better! So before, the meat Jun was little bit dry and didn't have as much flavor. Now it tastes like it's been marinated longer and better cuts of meat(?) or something. Definitely an improvement. The sauce is still the same tho. SERVICE was very good. There was a younger Asian guy who was in the front now. I didn't ask his name but he's great. Sometimes a change in ownership is a good thing.

Yelp
Annyeonghaseyo! We came over to Moiliili on a weeknight during dinner time to run an errand. The hubby was craving Korean BBQ so I suggested Mama Woo's, which was nearby and we'd passed by on so many occasions. Since we had some time, we decided it was a good chance to try them out! Usually the parking lot is packed and parking is scarce, but tonight we were lucky! There was a gentleman ahead of us waiting for his take out order, so we took a moment to study their banchan and menu. The cashier (Matthew) answered our question about the squid, took our order and even offered a sample of their fried eggplant (!) banchan, saying it was a little on the sweet side. Omgoodness it was delicious! Just a hint of sweetness to the savory shoyu glaze, so very yummy! We sat on the chairs for maybe 5 minutes and our food was ready! I ordered the BBQ Chicken plate ($15.95) with Kim chee, daikon Kim chee, chap Chae and the fried eggplant. The chicken was conveniently cut up into pieces. My hubby ordered the stir fried squid ($19.95) with Kim chee, chap Chae, fried eggplant and seaweed. Their Kim chee is legit! From personal experience, we've learned that if a Korean BBQ place has good Kim chee, it will be good and we were not disappointed. All the banchan was delicious and of course the BBQ Chicken was juicy and the squid was tasty! Very happy with the quality and quantity of the food as well as the politeness of the employees . As well were leaving, another employee talked with us and said he hoped we like the food and come back to try more items!

Yelp
My new goto place for takeout Korean Food. The declining quality of the market city spot and the early closing time of the Kapahulu Safeway spot had forced me to search for a new place. Man, Mama Woo's did a spot on job. Food was great, service was friendly and fast. Keep it up! I will be back again and again. Thanks for the great food!

Yelp
Mama Woos is one of my go to for korean food for years. The food is always good and fresh. Portion sizes are good. I love the side options especially the fried egg plant. So good . The family packs & catering are great for get togethers or beach days.

Yelp
My boss ordered trays of food for our office Christmas party. My coworker had his own special plate of spicy chicken. Food was so delicious and meats were tender. We have left over food for tomorrow's lunch. I will have to make a visit to support my neighborhood business.

Yelp
Growing up and spending most summers in Honolulu, we've tried a lot - a lot - of a la carte/Korean plate lunch places, and Mama Woo's is always our favorite. They have such a great variety and quality of meat dishes and sides. Since I live on the mainland, meat jun is one of the items I can't find anywhere outside HI so I dream about it. Mama Woo's always scratches that itch when I'm craving comfort food and the unique-to-Hawaii Asian American cuisine experience. Staff are always friendly and patient, especially since my dad like to ask a million questions in restaurants. We always get a variety of meats and sides to split amongst our family, and there are still always plenty of leftovers even with their massive portions. Thinking about Mama Woo's now and my stomach is growling! Can't wait until my next trip to Honolulu so I can go back.

Yelp
I heard great things about their spicy chicken wings. We came to try it out. I got the combo plate with spicy chicken wings and fried oysters $17.95. The hubby got the bbq chicken and mochiko chicken combo $17.95. The spicy chicken wings didn't disappoint. It was marinated in a sweet and spicy sauce. It definitely had a kick to it. The oysters were huge and plump. The plate came with three wings and three oysters. You get your choice of four sides and rice. I opted for five sides and no rice. I got the choy sum, fried eggplant, potato salad, shoyu potato and japchae. The sides were ok. I wouldn't get the fried eggplant again. It was fried, cold and greasy. It probably would have been good out of the fryer, but not when it's cold.

Yelp
Decided to stop by to pick up dinner for the family and I'm so glad I got to try it here! The staff was so kind, letting my grandma sample some of the banchan options to see if it was soft enough for her to eat. They were patient with me as I tried to decide what to choose out of the variety of options they offer. I decided on the meat jun plates, vegetable plate for grandma, and the mochiko chicken. The portions were big and so delicious!! The banchans were fresh and flavorful! Everyone enjoyed their meal! I'll be back to try their other dishes!

Yelp
Whenever I'm waiting in line for their next-door neighbor, Wagaya, the tantalizing smell of smoky BBQ always catches my attention. It seems like they've either reavmped up their menu or finally hopped onto the social media bandwagon because lately, I've been seeing a ton of buzz around them. However, the hype didn't quite live up to expectations. I went for the Mama Woo special, which includes four types of meats and side dishes. For the meats, the marinades were a bit too sweet for me and the meat itself was extremely dry and rubbery, especially the bulgogi. The standout was undeniably the meat jun, though it was nothing special. For the sides, I got the spicy fried eggplant, japchae, seaweed salad, and choi sum. The best item was the choi sum because the slight bitterness balanced the sweet marinade from the meat. Otherwise, the japchae were undercooked and still had a bite to them. The fried eggplant was tough and the vinegar in the seaweed salad was overpowering. Regrettably, Mama Woo's missed the mark for me. The only redeeming quality about Mama Woo's was the generous portion.

Yelp
Mama Woo retired. The business is now taken over by her nephew so I'm not sure if there is any changes in taste of the food or any difference in choices of ban chan. Mini plates all $2.00 less with 2 choices of veggies. I ordered 2 mini kal bi plates and waited a little under 10 mins for my order. A little disappointed that I could have ordered just 1 regular plate (LOL)! Since a mini plate came with just 4 small pcs of meat, which is equivalent to one long piece of meat and 1 /3 of a strip. And the mini plate is 20.00. The meat was a little in the sweet side, I didn't care for it There was parking today for a Sunday either.

Yelp
Our favorite Korean take out, love service and food. They recently added a new menu board and can it's very clear and can read the menu well. They also did a clean up and not all the boxes as you enter, looks like they decluttering the front area. Food is alway five star, ordered the rice cake soup and party platter. Rice cake soup was so good, not on the menu (not sure why), but they do make the soup. Love the party platter their meats are never over cooked or burnt, very flavorful and it's a lot of food. Wish they gave more bachans (these portions are smaller)

Yelp
Not too far from Waikiki and there's parking in the lot and on the street I got short ribs and oysters, full plates. They were delicious! I will be coming back the next time I'm in town. The salad, broccoli and corn were all good sides. The rice was moist too.

Yelp
Was hearing a lot of buzz around this place so wanted to go check it out. First off, walked in and it was decently sized for a takeout place, has a waiting area and plenty of parking in the front of the store as well. Saw reviews raving this place has the best spicy pork on the island so guess what... I got the spicy pork plate!!! Huge fan of bbq in general and gotta say they really do have one of the best spicy porks on island. Customer service is excellent as well, lady in the front welcomed with a huge smile and I also got to meet the owner. The owner recently took over the previous owner story for various reasons but I am glad to meet the new owner. Overall, food is crazy good, service is above exceptional, and parking is easy, what more can you ask for in a takeout spot?? P.S. call or online order ahead of time so you don't have to wait in a crazy long line to order They also do catering for Banchan/BBQ if you have a party to attend and want to bring some spreads, these are THE spread

Yelp
What went well? Staff! Made my wife and I feel so welcome when we came in. Food.. wow, I could eat here every night. One meal can last two if you want. Ton of food and so tasty. But more importantly the owner and his staff were so welcoming! We were talking story about the northwest and never felt rushed to leave. We'll be back.

Yelp
Very good Korean bbq plate lunch. Only reason for 4* instead of 5* is because it's take out only. Fish Jun cost $17. I ordered without rice and that yielded me 5 vegetable choices. Here's where this place shines. They have all the typical sides plus some more unusual ones. I got fried eggplant, Korean pancake, pickled daikon with onion and jalapeño, broccoli, and Kim chee. All were excellent. The fish Jun was cooked on a flat top not fried which is wayyyyy better. Staff are friendly. I'll be back.

Yelp
New owner is super friendly. Food was tasty and portions were really generous. The only disappointment was that the mandoo was kind of meh, for being made by an authentic owner....Anyway, lots more dishes to try. We're going for the meatball jeon next time. The owner claims this is THE most popular jeon in Korea!

Yelp
Trust the ratings on this place. It's my new Korean plate lunch location. Food is solid and staff is friendly. Got the kalbi combo w spicy fried chicken. Both were good. They allowed me to skip rice and get one extra banchan. As other reviewers noted they have a much more extensive banchan menu fast food first place I've seen w potato salad (one of my faves) and some stuff I normally don't see like fried eggplant and odeng.

Yelp
Ordered the med family pack food was tasty kalbi, chicken and bulgogi was good meat jun not bad and rice portion was really small not enough for the medium family pack order.

Yelp
We were greeted by a very friendly young handsome guy. He was very welcoming to my husband and I. We got 2 take out orders, our containers were full of yummy food. You get 4 sides with your main entree or you can also do a combo of 2 items for your main entree. The prices are reasonable and we will go again soon. Fyi, it's best for take out!

Yelp
Tasty! We had the mama Woo's special which is a BBQ mix plate. Includes bbq chicken, bbq meat, kalbi two scoops of rice and four sides. If you only want one scoop rice you get to select another side. Very pleasant service and patient as you make your side selections. Theirs is so much sides to choose it takes time if your a newbie. No inside seating it's all take out. Feels clean and it is clean with enough area to wait inside if not busy. Parking can be a little tight because of the limited parking spaces available. This place is worth a try if you haven't and gets really busy with people picking up their phone orders. That's what I'll do the next time when ordering food from here. Especially now I know what I want to order from mama Woo's. Give it a try!

Yelp
Had so much fun at this place, mainly because you can "see" all the food and you select your items from all the great choices. I was here last September, 2022...but unfortunately, we ate at so many places, I couldn't possibly write Yelp reviews for everything. I was just telling a friend about it here, so thought I'd write a quick review and thanks to Facebook, I still have all my photos! The food was absolutely delicious and what an amazing selection! First time I heard of and tried "meat jun"... I can't believe that they cook all this food every day. It's not a huge place, but I'm sure many locals come here daily. My Auntie chose this place and said it was a family favorite. You can't eat here, so we took it "to go" and had a nice lunch on her lanai. Definitely would like to come back on my next trip to Honolulu.

Yelp
https://yujikun99.blogspot.com/2024/01/mama-woos-bbq.html

Yelp
you gotta support local =D this is a family owned business and local staple! They have my favorite spicy pork on the whole island. There's plenty of free parking and a person can get FULL for $15-$20 easy and have left overs.
google avatar

Yelp
The meat jun is very tasty! Will definitely get this next time I'm in Honolulu. Workers are very friendly.
google avatar

Ken J.

Yelp
My wife and I've been going here for years and they never fail to fill us up with delicious food! Their meat jun, spicy pork, and all the side fixings are always on point. We were a little nervous about the change in ownership but we're happy to report that the quality of food hasn't changed. It's also cool that while they're keeping a lot of the old recipes, it looks like they're excited to try new things. By the friendly owner's recommendation, we tried their new menu, Korean Meatball Jun. This was sooo gooood! I will definitely be getting it again next time. Just makes it more difficult now to choose what to put in my next mixed plate!

Yelp
New owner took over for the original Mama Woo. The special menu board is gone. Foods a little different. All new workers now and female up front isn't too cordial or friendly. The male owner said that he is the nephew of the original mama woo. He related that his aunty retired to help with her mother. Good to see that her nephew is carrying on her legacy. I just wished that he kept the special menu board that his aunty always had. Honesty and integrity goes a long ways. Hope to see the original mama woo visit her nephew and reinstall her special menu board and recipes.

Yelp
I've patronized Mama Woo's once several years ago, maybe not long after they began operating. Wasn't impressed overall, particularly with the (presumably) proprietor's curt attitude (as though I owed her money) and rather stingy banchan portions (as compared to Yummy's). Yesterday I was out of options for a quick low-carb-ish lunch and decided to give it another go. Got there at approx. 11:00am, there was a customer sitting inside. Sounds like a regular by the conversation going on. I had peeked at Yelp menu photos before I got there so I was sort of prepared and decided on a combo plate, which was very reasonably priced at $14.95 (compared to Red Pepper in Mānoa Marketplace). I picked the Bulgogi and Fish jun combo with no rice, which gave me another choice of banchan, so I ended up with japchae/long rice, broccoli, potato salad, kimchi, and fried eggplant. On a whim I decided to get an extra side from the mini fridge (dried daikon kimchi, $6) but didn't have enough cash so I got a side order of tteokbokki ($6 for an ice-cream-pint-sized tub) and a Arizona green tea ($2). Didn't hit the minimum to use my debit card but the owner graciously allowed (with a curt nod of her head when the cashier asked her). Food didn't take long to prepare. The banchan portions still seem a little stingy, but honestly it is good portion control for one person! The banchans were tasty except for the cabbage kimchi. I'd skip that, but interestingly, the dried daikon kimchi was delicious. I'd also skip the eggplant, it was heavily battered and dry, and like it's a few days old that I couldn't recognize that it was eggplant. The tteokbokki was yummy! It was chewy and the sauce was the right balance of sweet and spicy (not diluted or runny) and had bits of beef and onion. Heated up well in the microwave as well. The entrees were also good-- the bulgogi was a tad salty tho, which probably would go well with rice, and the fish jun was lightly battered and tasted fresh. Good portions for one person (1.5 meals from the plate alone; 2 with the additional sides). I would like to try the other menu items, particularly the ones on the chalkboard! They look intriguing. Apparently they come with sides too. Parking can be tight. Best for an early lunch grab-and-go. Solid 4 stars.

Ricci C.

Yelp
Great service, price and food were amazing. The Kal-bi/Meat Jun plate was ono! Definitely going back!
google avatar

Patrick L.

Yelp
Very tasty , good quantity but ended up being a little too salty so giving it four stars.

Diane N.

Yelp
Ordered the Extra Large Family Pack (8 adults, 2 children), with no rice: the food was tasty and delicious! We used to order the Large Family Pack, but this extra large is even better. AND 3 families got to take leftovers home! The service was very pleasant.

Yelp
Looking for quick bite or for family style order here at Mama Woos can't go wrong very traditional Korean food but I've been coming back often and for more . . . Only problem with parking is very limited and tight since two other restaurants here is Very Popular and I do go often to both of them and have reviewed them both But back to Mama Woo will Woo you back once you've tried them Guarantee you'll have a great meal with any order I've haven't had any issues with them yet but quick and cheap simple and friendly can't go wrong there is tables there but most people takeout as you see Piles of Takeout boxes available on the side

Yelp
I try not to leave negative reviews on small mom and pop type of businesses but here goes... :( Bf suggested Korean so we decided on Mama Woo's. It was close by and we get to choose our sides so okay. I got the kalbi & meat Jun combo. The portion was small and the food was meh. Bf ordered the big bone kalbi and a middle soup. He liked the noodle soup but he was so disappointed with the kalbi. For the price the portion was so small and he doesn't usually complain but this time he did and he said we are not going back there.

Darren C.

Yelp
Take out only so ambiance is not an issue. Parking is scares and stalls/parking lot is small. Under new management. Food tastes the same (good) except chicken is not as burnt and tastes better. Mandoo is also better. Portions are about the same and prices went up. Wait time on a Sunday at 4:50 pm was over 40 minutes for a medium family pack ($64). When we ordered by phone they said it would be 15 minutes. While waiting they then told people 30 - 45 minutes. Overall - food good but slight disappointed by the wait.
google avatar

Yelp
Warm and friendly service. I love that they'll give an honest answer if I ask which dish they like best and they appreciate their guests. We've ordered the family pack and always gone for the largest size...leftovers! The food is neatly and securely boxed and on several occasions they've offered to help carry it out...even though I've declined most times it was so heartwarming! The kalbi, kimchi, cabbage, potato salad, kimchi fried rice are yummy faves, but we'd be happy with anything from their menu. We ordered bentos for a Celebration of Life for the friend who referred me to Mama Woo's. Sherese was very helpful and made ordering a breeze! Our guests gave Mama Woo's rave reviews. Mahalo and keep up the great work!!

Yelp
I am so sad that they appear to have new owners, staff is friendly but the food quality and quantity have drastically changed. The Jap Chae was off,it smelled a little sour, wasn't gonna chance it. Bbq chicken had an odd texture to it, just didn't taste right, threw that out too. Menu changed along with the higher prices. Not going back, that's for sure.

Ashlee K.

Yelp
I always order to go on my way home after work since they don't close til 830pm. Korean meatball and banchans are delicious and my go to. The banchans are always fresh. Inside is clean and even though parking can be scarce at times since it shares with wagaya, it's usually never a problem.

Yelp
New owners, seems like new recipes. I don't know. I hate leaving bad reviews, but there is a lot of work to be done by the new management and cooks. The good: - They are friendly, - They brought new banchan to the table (which I was excited for). - The kalbi was ok. The bad: - The sprouts banchan tasted like a just cleaned container (weird cleaning product taste). - The kimchi is completely different-- I couldn't eat it. - The japchae was small noodle and lacked flavor (I fixed it with sesame oil but it's not the same). It's not the same noodle as before. - The bbq chicken was more thin than my belt. There was only one small piece of it. For an almost 20 dollar plate lunch, this is inexcusable. - The bbq pork lacked char and had a weird texture. I couldn't finish it. Also barely any portion. - The chicken wings don't taste anything like the old ones (which were my absolute favorite). - The mandoo is small, taste kind of like the costco kimchi one, and not like the big spongy delicious one I'm used to from here with the mama special. I hope the new owners can correct the issues and if they bought the recipes, I hope they learn to make the recipes accurately. And if they didn't buy the recipes at all--- GO BUY THEM! I didn't come here for "new korean bbq" place, I came here for Mama Woo's! I might take a chance here again in a while, but we threw away the food. It was not good.

Yelp
We've been pick up food from here for a few years now. The first time we ordered Pre Pandemic we got all Kalbi and it was 3 piece of thick and we ordered an extra piece. Those were the days. The next time we ordered it was ok but not as thick as the first time. Since then Post Pandemic we graduated to the Tong Cut which is the big bone and they butterfly the short rib. They cut it up for us so we couldn't really tell what the pieces looked like but was still good. Since then I cut back eating beef and pork trying to intake more plant based foods. Love the Bancha! This time I ordered the Spicy BBQ Chicken which was super delicious! My partner has always wanted to try the Hamburger Steak. He said it was good but is used to local style Hamburger Steak with Brown Gravy all over. He'll probably stick to ordering the Kalbi from now on. We will definitely be back!!

Yelp
This is the first time I have tried this place and it is by far one of the best places for korean bbq on the island . I will definitely be going back. Food was Ono

Yelp
Crap - the chicken is dry and over cooked. The kalbi is too sweet. $22 and I got 1 kalbi and 1 chicken. No food value. Servers are polite. If you like waiting next to takeout containers under shitty lighting this place has the perfect ambiance for you. Save your money and don't bother going to the horrible place that should have closed up years ago

Yelp
Mama Woo's is one of our go to for Korean food. We have been coming for years. Chris the owner is so friendly and hard working. She always greets us and treats us like old friends. She will take the time to tell you about a new side dish she made. One of my all time favorite is the deep fried eggplant. I also love the beet/pickled radish. We have ordered individual plates to family packs. The family packs are great. If you don't want rice you get an extra side. Which is so worth it. Also with the family pack, everyone gets to get a little of everything instead of just one choice. So far everything that we have tried was yummy and flavorful. The parking lot maybe small, but each time we have been lucky to find a parking spot to pick up our food. We enjoy eating here.

Yelp
I have known the owner since I was in elementary school and it was in Hawaii Kai. I prefer Mama Woo's BBQ over other Korean food places. The food is excellent. I prefer this place over other places.

Yelp
This is my first time eating here. I hear so much about this place from friends of mine. We were just so happened to be in the McCully area so we stopped in. I'm glad we stopped because number one I was hungry, number two the food smelled so good from the outside. You really get a feel of a mom and pop shop. The staff was super friendly and greeted us with a big, "hello!" After browsing the extensive menu, I decided to order the Meat Jun plate. My Banchan selections were, bean, sprouts, potato salad, Kim Chee and eggplant. The portions are large, and can easily feed two people. The Meat, Jun, what is tender and the sauce was a perfect combination of vinegar and soy sauce. The meat was coded with egg perfectly, and cooked to perfection. Their potato salad was really good. Bean sprouts were fresh and crispy, Kim Chee does not too spicy. The fried eggplant was essentially all the way I wish I had that dish served hot. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes.

Yelp
Awesome BBQ Chicken. Nice glaze on it. Also the sides are very fresh! Kim chi was ok. Not much kick.

Yelp
I have been to Mama Woo's before, apparently before they changed ownership. That didn't make a difference. The taste and value of the food still makes this my favorite Korean takeout to visit. Service is friendly and the interior is clean and tidy. 5/5 I ordered two plates for two of us. Mama Woo's special plate ($21.95), Kalbi combo ($21.95), and six chicken wings ($10.95). You get rice and four sides. You can sub a side or Jap Chae if you don't want rice. All that food fed us three times (six meals total), which came to about $11 per meal per person. Food: 5/5

Been going to Mama Woo's since 2017 and it's been consistently good from then till now. Great customer service and great choice of banchan. Always a go to spot if I'm craving Korean food.
