Mamma Carmela Cafe Pizzeria

All the food was delicious. A little bit pricey but that's probably partly to do with its location. Staff were friendly and nice atmosphere.

I’ve visited Mamma Carmela’s in Glenelg twice recently, and unfortunately both experiences were disappointing. The first time, I ordered the Spaghetti Napoletana. It was extremely oily, with a pool of greasy tomato oil sitting at the bottom of the bowl. The flavour was bland and unbalanced, and even worse, I ended up with severe food poisoning afterwards and was unwell for a week. I’ve never experienced anything like that before, and it was really disappointing that food served could cause such a reaction. I decided to give the restaurant another chance and came back a second time. This time I ordered a pizza, which tasted better but was still quite oily and not very filling. What really brought down the experience, though, was the service. Several staff members were sitting at a nearby table, and one of their chairs was sticking out into the aisle behind me. Even though they could clearly see it was in the way, they didn’t move it, and I was left pressed up against another chair until they left. The only positive aspect was the friendly young waitress who served us and the restaurant’s great location in Glenelg. However, overall, the food quality and staff attentiveness need serious improvement. I really hope Mamma Carmela’s takes this feedback on board, as it has the potential to be a great spot if more care and professionalism were shown.

The food was great (nicely cooked eggs) & came out quite quickly. Coffee was good. Indoor & outdoor seating right next to the tram line. I found the breakfast menu to be abit pricey.

Great family little restaurant near Glenelg Jetty. Quite busy the couple of times we have been there however the food is amazing and service quick. Pasta is very fresh and pizzas very tasty. Overall a great experience and service, nice warm atmosphere, friendly staff

Visited here for lunch today. Initially stopped for a takeaway coffee. The barista was cold and not welcoming. We asked for a flat white with one sugar. She rudely pointed and said the sugar is over there. Most baristas will put the sugar into the coffee for you 🤷‍♂️ We grabbed a table and when we went to order, the gentleman near the order area wasn't welcoming and quite frankly was cold. He pointed next to him and said I had to order there. The lady that took my order was to the point, not welcoming but very efficient. The food was amazing. We had the garlic bread and two small pizzas. Highly recommend! If it wasn't for the 👌 pizza, the review would be worse. For what appears to be a family run Italian restaurant, I think the owners need to go back to Italy to be reminded what true Italian hospitality is all about.

Food was beautiful and the staff was amazing. Olga was the most caring person, I spilled my drink all over myself and she didn’t hesitate got me a new drink and cleaned up the mess and checked in on us a few times! Nothing was to much she was very friendly and polite. Top from a service from a great team member

I went out to dinner for 'Italian' pizza and, with all due respect, it was an insult to Italians. They put our flag on every establishment that sells pizza, and I feel like they are making us lose the prestige we Italians have for having the best food in the world. They have an excellent location, a prime corner spot, but it is unacceptable that the main product is accompanied by the Italian flag, as the recipe they offer is very bad. I hope they don't take this criticism the wrong way, but the recipe they offer is very bad. The service and everything else, however, was correct.

This is the second time we've eaten at Mama Carmela. We also chose the same thing --- carbonara and pizza (but this time we picked seafood flavor instead of meat lovers). What can I say, they're still the same very yummy food that I remember. Oooohhh that creamy pasta is to die for LOL. The seafood pizza is delicious too. A bit salty for my liking but I kinda expect it since it has anchovies. Lol Regarding customer service, it's just ok. The first time we came the staffs on duty were all cheerful and welcoming. On our recent visit customer service was just blah. So it really depends on who's working that time. The only thing I'm not fond of is the price LOL. Like we ordered just one carbonara (good for 2) and small pizza (good for 2 as well)... and 1 coke haha --- and we paid like 40 plus aud. Oh well, sometimes you have to pay the price for a really good meal. 4.5 star

Mamma Carmela's on Jetty Road at Glenelg has been one of the few cafes in this area that has stayed in its original location while the rest of Glenelg has changed around it. Established in 1974 and still a family run business, they've moved with the times but kept that fantastic element of their cafe the same - the food! You can go there and grab a coffee, which is always good or you can chow down on one of their pizzas or pasta dishes. You may leave Mamma Carmela's feeling like something of a beached whale but don't worry because you're just a stone's throw from the beach and someone is sure to roll you back in. My number one recommendation is their supreme pizza - add extra anchovies if you like the salty fish!

Great breakfast and coffee. And lunches. And terrific pizzas. One of my favorite places, and even after being away for a year or so the staff are still friendly and come say hi. Never had a dud meal, always nice and quick too.

Great pizza! Had a small seafood pizza, with smoked mussel ( so damn good! ) calamari and shrimp ( even though they call it prawns ) And sundried tomato, just beautiful flavour there. Chicken involtini with mushroom and rose sauce also great

Went to Mamma Carmela'a for a quick dinner before a movie. We ordered a vego pizza and wedges and the service was pretty quick and good a basic meal. You do go up and order yourself, so it's not a restaurant with table service. It can get a bit noisy inside with the loud music and wooden floors, however it wasn't packed so we could still talk to each other. This place has been around for years and is great in summer as you can sit outside and watch the world go by.

The owner must have simply injected Mamma with passion, because I certainly felt that eating inside here. My lady friend who I dined in here with also agreed it was the best. My only hesitation about continuing this new love affair with my lady friend is that I wonder how long she will be with her boyfriend?...sounds like a old broken record that I've heard before...

I've been here many times over the years and will probably return again, even though the last meal wasn't as good as on previous visits. Most often it's been because of the company I was in/group decision as Mamma Carmela's has really become a default go to kind of restaurant when in Moseley Square. Having said that it does now have more competition than in the past. The service is quick and easy, they don't look at you in a strange questioning way when you ask for a picollo latte, and they like kids/noise/congestion. There's always a table to be found and in winter they enclose the front and turn on the heaters like the restaurants alongside them. Their pasta dishes are generally very good and so are the pizzas. On my last visit I had salt and pepper squid which was a little pedestrian, under seasoned and a little on the small side for the $22 it cost. The coffee was okay although I remember it as being better in the past. They could do with a fresh coat of paint and some brightness but maybe same ol' just works sometimes too...as long as the food is good.

I agree with Penny, Mamma Carmela's food is fairly average, however, it has been around a long time so it must be doing something right. I recently had lunch here and the pizza was good but not great. The service has always been very good and the staff friendly. Les, the owner is a lovely man and is certainly in the right industry. The restaurant has a lovely Italian family feel and you get the idea that the staff enjoy working here. I used to go to Mamma's ,as it is affectionately called by the locals, quite regularly and remember being uninspired by most of the food. The coffee is certainly ok but not great. It is also situated in a fantastic position, close to the beach and on the edge of Moseley Square: Outside seating offers a great atmosphere with good views of the beachfront. Good solid family style restaurant.

I have eaten here for lunch many times while at the Bay, the pizza's and pastas are always excellent! However, last weekend i venture there early (ish.....) and managed to get a breakfast menu before they stopped at midday. It was fabulous, loads of bacon, a nicely coked meaty sausage, tomato, beans, toast and of course coffee. Will certainly become a destination of mine for nice brekkie to see me through most of the day!

Great place. Lovely to sit outside and have a pizza on a nice day. Pizza is always good. Staff are polite and friendly. Place we always go to for a meal when in Glenelg. Actually we were not even in Glenelg the other day but near so decided it had been a while since we had been there so had lunch. Lovely sunny day and great pizza like usual.

Oh Mamma! This is one of my fave eateries in the glenelg area. It can't go wrong (for a carb-aholic such as myself) when the menu is full to the brim with pizza, pasta and awesome garlic bread. For those lucky enough to have been to Italy, you'll know that even a ham & cheese sandwich from a dodgy train station shop will be the best thing you've ever tasted. Eat here and you may just think you're back in the mother-land. I am smacking my lips just thinking about it. It's also reasonably priced and best of all you can sit alfresco on a warm summers day overlooking the sea. In a nutshell-just like mamma used to make!

Glenelg is always busy, and the restaurants are usually packed to the brim on a weekend. Well, Mamma Carmela is so HUGE that you are sure to find a table on even the busiest day :) Now don't come here expecting a high-class restaurant ... it's a slightly daggy cafe-style pizza and pasta place, and they do this extremely well. The staff are friendly and the meals come out quickly. The wine list is extensive and very well priced. Last time we came here, we all shared a large pizza, but their pasta is also excellent. For a great family-friendly cafe, this is definitely one of our favourites.

Staying at a nearby hotel and ordered a take away pizza from here last night and can say that they do a great pizza. Crust is thin and crispy in an Australian style, and the toppings were nicely balanced although there could have been a few more. The lady that was managing the place was very friendly and helpful, making it a pleasurable experience.

We are locals of Glenelg and often walk past this place. We ordered a family sized Pizza and garlic bread. Pizza was actually one of the better we have had in Adelaide so far.. but still lacked flavour.. a bit bland and the garlic bread, Definitely wont be ordering that again! 2 slices of toast and next to no garlic or butter! No thank you We may return to try the pastas, but wont be to soon...

I have been here quite a few times, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Have a good menu and atmosphere, staff our friendly. Price's are good. Located near the beach at Glenelg, has outdoor and inside dinning. Do great pizza's and Pasta here. My favourite thing on the menu is the big breakfast which is on till midday, the portions are a good size. Also do great cakes here too.. Haven't had a problem with getting a table in here when there has been a few people, can get busy so if going with a big group best to book....

This is more of a three and half star rating in all honesty.... In terms of good proper meals I have only ever tried the pizza from Mama Camellas. I am pretty sure that the pizza is what provides Mama Carmela with a decent amount of customers over the years. I have to say that the pizza here is not really the type you would think twice about. You see the pizzas are not bad, and so you are not going to be complaining about them, however on the other end of the scale they are not exactly worth raving about either. Having said that, in terms of pizza at Gleneg, mamas is probably one of your best bets. The coffee and gelati at Mama Carmela is on a similar sort of page with the pizza, nothing spectacular but still pretty decent. Maybe I am just being fussy. I should also probably mention that there is a lot of seating within this store, and so you should be ok for a seat even on the busiest of Summer days.

One of the best vegetarian Pizzas I've eaten in Australia so far. The Pasta my girlfriend had, was also very delicious. The waiter and the cook were very friendly and it is not too loud there at the and of the street. We weren't sure if it was a good quality restaurant because the chairs and tables outside look a little cheap, but we were proven wrong. We also loved the self-made fair trade ice cream And would always come back here. For what you get the price is also okay.

I come here all the time with my family and I love everything about it. The food is amazing and so is the environment and the staff are really helpful and nice.

Breakfast was only ok. Pancakes a bit dry, veggie omelette was a bit bland with slightly undercooked onions. Coffee very good. Location very good with good atmosphere. But in the end there is a lot of choice around here and would go somewhere else instead.

I love this place for late night pizza snacks. I haven't tried a pizza I haven't enjoyed here, and the pasta isn't bad either. I've always managed to find a seat, no matter how big the group is.

Awesome service ! 6 of us walked off the street and they made up a table for us even tho the restaurant was busy ! Then we ordered and there was minimal wait time and the food was superb !! We had 2 kids in our group and the kids serves were fab !! The waitress was energetic with a smile ! Highly recommend this place !!
