Although a warm welcome is always given, the food is always freshly cooked and well presented, with attentive, friendly service - the pricing at Mama Mia has become disappointing. At nearly £18 for a seafood risotto (albeit beautifully cooked), this tops any restaurant even in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
The waitress told us what desserts were available, and I opted for the Lemon Sorbet with Limoncello Cream Liqueur. While eating mine, I overheard another table of diners querying an item on their bill, for Limoncello Cream Liqueur priced £3, which was eventually removed from their bill. When I received my bill, I was shocked to find that my Lemon Sorbet was £4.10, with an extra £3 for the Limoncello Cream Liqueur - totalling over £7 for a sorbet dessert! At no point was it mentioned that the liqueur would be an extra cost - had it been, I would have preferred the sorbet without the liqueur, as it was very strong and overpowering.
We ordered 2 double espressos to finish the evening, which turned out to be £2.85 each. Where in most restaurants and cafes, the price of a double espresso is normally 40 or 50p more than a single espresso - they had actually doubled the price. All in all, a very expensive evening.
I felt that there should have been menus given out, detailing the dessert specials and coffee, so you are aware of what price you are paying before ordering. Great food, great atmosphere, great service, however terribly overpriced.
