Mammoth Dining Room

Comfortable and inviting dining room. Warm and cozy in winter. Service is generally good. Food quality is acceptable given the remoteness of the place and the fact that in winter it must be a logistical nightmare to keep this running. This is the only choice at Mammoth, but not a bad option at all.

Unfortunately didn’t get many pictures, but this was definitely fine wine and dining. The service was impeccable, The steak was delicious hands down and cooked to a perfect Medium rare ! The only two down sides were that this was definitely high price with low portions. Starting with the loaded potato, it was just so tiny, the steak was a good size, but all this wasn’t filling, I ordered an additional lobster Mac n cheese. Which was about $30, and pretty bad. Considering the state and where it’s located I understand. The Mac n cheese was good, but the lobster was definitely not even lobster, it tasted and looked just like imitation crab, not fresh and just bleh. Not worth it definitely at the price it’s at. I love seafood and eat it all the time especially down here in Texas, but anywhere I go I tend to try the lobster Mac and cheese so I like to believe my opinion is fair. The drink of choice was an old fashion which tasted perfect! Just again small compared to what I’ve had in the past. But definitely a good restaurant to stop by and try out! Plan on coming back in the future to try other items on the menu!

How do you mess up pancakes? We were here a few days ago for dinner as well, but I refrained from reviewing since I rarely review things, and many of the restaurants in the National Park are similarly overpriced and not too great anyways - I’m assuming because it is hard to get fresh ingredients to relatively remote locations. But how do you mess up pancakes?? They were burned, and the texture was like jerky. It was very hard to cut into with a knife. I usually try to finish my food, but this was as far as I got. I wanted to tough it out and at least take it to-go, but decided it was not good for my health. A woman sitting at the next table got pancakes as well, and it looked like she only took a couple bites before she left. I am reviewing because the situation was a little funny, and surprised me - even though I knew the food wasn’t too good overall, I was excited for pancakes this morning. Before stepping into the restaurant, I told my family: “it’s impossible to mess up pancakes!”

The food is good but it's super overpriced for what you get. The portion sizes are very small for the price. Dinner was over $100 for 2 people, and breakfast was around $50. But the staff was very friendly and the location is convenient if you are staying at the hotel.

9/24/24 Kudos to the manager! We (2) were seated promptly, but it took a long time to order & get our food, which we expected per other reviews. Unfortunately our order got mixed up somehow and they brought the wrong meal. The waiter was very apologetic and resubmitted the order. While we were waiting the manager was helping out and brought the same wrong order to us. We explained what happened so he took it back. Our correct meal only took about 20min this time. We shared a smoked trout appetizer, house salad, steak all of which were delicious. When it came time to pay, the manager only charged us for our alcohol and comped all the food which was around $80! He did the right thing! Thank you sir.

If at Old Faithful, ask for Sabrina for your server in the restaurant. She is such a joy and hands down great service!! If at Mammoth, ask for Mable and Emmanuel. They’ll go above and beyond to make sure you’re happy!

The National Park Service should be embarrassed to serve this to guests. We ate here one night and it was so terrible that we microwaved food from the grocery store in our hotel room the next night. Do not waste your money until they get it out their contact with Xanterra.

Best dinner in Yellowstone. Formal dining. We had 4 starters, 3 entries, and 1 kids' meal. 4 stars because everything was so salty. Bison meat was Ok, lamp chop, and NY stip was good. The vanilla cake was super. I am glad there is a real restaurant in Mammoth. Better than those village cafeteria.
