Mamuśka! Polish Kitchen And Bar Review - Waterloo - London - The Infatuation

"Mamuśka! Polish Kitchen And Bar is a beer hall that has spent a lot of time clubbing. Visit this Waterloo spot to kick off a night out with neon lights, a bit of Polish disco music, and a pile of fried pierogi dusted with crispy bacon. Or maybe this mammoth restaurant is where the night ends for you, when creamy, buttery mash and one too many vodka slushies send you to the nearby station. The food at this big, industrial hall—which you collect yourself, canteen-style—ranges from average to tasty. Stick to a flavourful, meltingly soft pork gulasz and those crowd-pleaser pierogi, and you can have a decent meal. But really it’s all about casual group get-togethers, where good value and bad decisions—courtesy of a vodka dessert flight and beer buckets—are top of the agenda." - Sinéad Cranna

London’s Best Sausages | Where to Eat Sausages in London | Eater London

"This cavernous Polish restaurant famous for great value food and dangerously large shots of vodka upped sticks from its original location in Elephant and Castle and moved to a railway arch in Waterloo in 2018. Mamuska does the job of feeding people with very few frills and the atmosphere veers wildly between deserted bunker and (former) freshers party. However, the food is satisfying, particularly the snappy white kielbasa flavoured with garlic and marjoram, served in a bun with onions and sauerkraut." - Helen Graves

Southbank and Waterloo’s Best Restaurants: Where to Eat in Southbank | Eater London

"Occupying a cavernous space beneath the arches of Waterloo station, Mamuśka is now operating from its third space, having moved up the road from Elephant & Castle. In addition to a huge drinks selection, Mamúska champions comforting Polish food, with the menu offering classics alongside daily specials. Superlative versions of tender pork schabowy with mashed potatoes or Polish stew with sauerkraut are unsurprisingly popular, but the pierogi is arguably the main draw. With various fillings available, including goat’s cheese and spinach; pork; or sauerkraut and mushroom, the deeply comforting pierogi ruskie are best of all, filled with potato, onion and cottage cheese, then topped with fried bacon lardons." - Jonathan Hatchman

Where to Find the Best Polish Food in London | Eater London

"Formerly an Elephant and Castle institution, Mamuśka! recently moved to a brick and steel space behind Waterloo station, and now boasts room for 200. It’s not clear whether the continued casual style — orders are placed at the counter and brought out to tables — is still meant to reference a classic Polish bar mleczny, or a Nandos. The new decor and jokey menu suggest Mamuśka! has designs on the fast-casual expansion market in the future. The food remains good value, with almost no meal on the menu crossing a tenner." - Stephen Buranyi

The food, service, and atmosphere were all very good but the host/waitress, Victoria, was exceptional. She was professional, friendly, and made my son and I feel right at home here in the heart of London. We ordered chicken strips w/chips and the Polish fried chicken patty, which reminded me of German schnitzel—it was delicious and filling! I would highly recommend this place mostly because of Victoria (and also, Kinga)! Thank you, ladies! Also, the restaurant is attached to the Leakes Street Arches, filled with fascinating graffiti. 10/10 stars

I've been wanting to visit this place since I can remember but never had a chance. Finally, I managed to stop by and try our Polish food in the centre of London. The vibe of the restaurant is very interesting with the newspaper style menu. The menu doesn't have a big selection of dishes, but that's even better because that means they are focusing on making the selected food even tastier. The food was really good quality, very fresh and really delicious. Kurczak Panierowany with potatoes and salads is always my go-to Polish dish, and this one was really tasty. The size of the dishes is very proper, and we have struggled to finish it, but it was so good that we cleared the plates 👌 Also the salads were perfect, so fresh ! And of course, the staff was great, very nice and welcoming, especially the polish girl with short black hair (sorry didn't get a name) she really made it feel like home. I will be back ! 😊

From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The food was absolutely fantastic — every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. You can tell the chefs put real care and creativity into what they do. The service was excellent — friendly, attentive, and professional. We felt genuinely looked after throughout the evening. Overall, this is a very positive, inviting place that I would happily recommend to anyone looking for great food and a great time. We'll definitely be back!

Really cool location! We came here on our last night in London as we were staying right beside it at the Park Plaza County Hall. The food was delicious and the portions were huge. We did have to ask 3 times to get water, but no big deal. Overall, had a nice meal and glad we came by.

Absolutely lush food and amazing beer! My son loved it too. He ate for free. The menu is like a newspaper which you can take home. Very nice staff with a brilliant service. Definitely worth a visit as the prices are very reasonable.

Excellent homemade food, took me back to my childhood memories from home. My fussy Scottish husband was loving the flavours and of course the beer 🍻 Service was first class 🙌 Thank you so much xx

I visited London in July 2025 with my family. After some days trying something local we ended up discovering this Polish restaurant — our native cuisine — and it turned out to be a great opportunity. They had very tasty food and, of course, generous Polish-sized portions. By the way, they offer unlimited salads (eat as much as you want! 😊). We came back again, and once more we were very satisfied.

Tucked beneath the railway arches of Waterloo, Mamuśka! Polish Kitchen and Bar is more than a restaurant—it’s a celebration of Polish culinary tradition served with generous portions, unapologetic flavour, and a touch of nostalgia. With its rustic wood interiors, long communal tables, and bold branding, it strikes a careful balance between contemporary casual dining and the homeliness of a Warsaw family kitchen. Starters: Classic Comfort with Precision The meal began with a Polish staple: sałatka jarzynowa, a vegetable salad so deeply embedded in Polish culinary culture that it’s served at nearly every family gathering. Mamuśka!’s version is unapologetically traditional—soft, cubed carrots, peas, potatoes, and pickles folded into a creamy mayonnaise-based dressing with subtle seasoning. It arrives chilled in a small bowl, accompanied by thick slices of soft white bread generously spread with butter. While visually modest, the flavour delivers comfort in every bite. The sharpness of the gherkins cuts through the richness just enough to keep it balanced. It’s humble, hearty, and executed with quiet confidence. Dessert: A Sweet Finish with Polish Flair For dessert, the nalesniki—thin Polish-style crepes—were filled and folded, then lavishly drizzled with dark chocolate sauce and dusted with powdered sugar. The texture was excellent: soft, with slightly crisp edges, offering a delicate contrast to the rich chocolate. The portion size was generous, easily shareable, yet not overwhelming. This is the kind of dessert that reminds you why crepes remain a timeless comfort dish in many Central and Eastern European homes. Atmosphere & Service: Casual Yet Intentionally Polish Mamuśka! sets the tone with its casual but distinctly Polish atmosphere—Polish newspapers on the tables, metal cutlery buckets, and industrial-style décor. It doesn’t try to be fancy, nor should it. This is a place where the food does the talking. Service is quick and friendly, with staff that are welcoming and speak both English and Polish—a nod to the restaurant’s commitment to staying authentic while being inclusive to its diverse London clientele. Verdict: Mamuśka! isn’t chasing trends. Instead, it offers something increasingly rare in London’s fast-paced dining scene: real food, made with heart, rooted in culture. It’s a place where you could take your Polish grandmother and your British friends, and both would leave equally satisfied. Whether you’re craving a taste of home or discovering Polish cuisine for the first time, Mamuśka! delivers a grounded, flavorful experience worth returning for

Yelp
Great authentic Posh Polish Food; Kielbasa with cheese, beetroot broth and pierogis are fantastic. I've eaten in polish areas of Cleveland, Chicago & Buffalo in the US. The owner is very gracious and helpful. The ambiance of "old" gentrified London for a great casual experience.

Yelp
We came in for our first meal in London and had a great experience. They have a huge indoor seating area with great AC. Service was amazing. I had the chicken soup with a slice of bread. The soup was comforting and tasty. The chicken, noodles, and veg were all tender and wholesome. I also loved their pickles from the salad bar. We shared a mixed plate of pirogies and I loved them! The fillings were delicious and well portioned. Everything was amazing.

Yelp
My review here is based primarily on their pork pierogi with bacon and onion and I really liked it very much. A bit on the heavy side -- I got full with just 5 of them, but tasty. This is not a place you go for the ambiance or service, although the seats are comfortable and the service is polite and efficient.

Yelp
Great polish food. Good service. The staff was attentive. We all enjoyed our lunch. I suggest anything item off the lunch special menu.

Yelp
Excellent service and the Perogies were delicious. We had the combo plate. The carrot salad and red cabbage were also yummy! Our server was so friendly and welcoming!

Yelp
This place is awesome! Came here with my ex and a friend of his so in Polish company, and got lots of delicious food. Waiter was super nice and friendly and even asked the two guys I was with if they wanted to join to work at the restaurant as they were expanding! But then Oleg started using the salt to draw coke lines on the table and waiter probably thought better of it haha.. Anyway this is a great place, was pretty popular when we went, pretty great ambiance, large portions and delicious and authentic Polish food :))

Yelp
This was a cool venue for this restaurant. Was not expecting it to be so big inside. The food and service was excellent. Highly recommend if you are in the London area looking for a yummy lunch.

Yelp
The food was good. It was good, not great. The service was good. It was good, not great. The dining room looked like it was somewhere between a quonset hut and a bomb shelter. It was cool looking, but the hard materials led to it being cold.

Yelp
Awesome traditional Polish food. Great server and a great time. vmVery cool atmosphere and close to our hotel. We will return on our next trip to London.

Yelp
After a 10 mile day-on foot-exploring London, I had worked up quite the appetite. As per usual-I opened up Yelp and began scanning my choices in the direction I was traveling. Polish food? I've never had the opportunity...off I went. I noticed the outdoor seating which looked very nice but I decided to sit inside and see what it was like. The location was very dark and industrial-not complaining. I was seated quick. As I mulled over the menu-what do I order? I've never had the opportunity to dine in a Polish restaurant before...I noticed they offered beef cheeks. Now laugh if you will-I chuckled-I am a fan of the show Below Deck and one such chef always served beef cheeks...you guessed it..I ordered beef cheeks. I also asked the waitress-who I think had no clue-which wine would be best served with them. She mentioned a cabernet-I'll take it. Shortly after ordering, a DJ began playing some EDM upstairs-fun. It took a while to get my food and when the server brought it he asked, and I quote, "Would you like a fork and knife?" Wait-what?? Of course I would like utensils...what kind of savage am I?? And then he also brought an empty bowl...what was that for? The young lady who sat me finally brought me my red wine-chilled. Yea-no. The food was great though! I would come back-just a few things need to be adjusted here.

Yelp
My husband is Polish and we're from Baltimore (which has a pretty large Polish population) so I knew when I saw this place close to our hotel that I wanted to make an effort to eat there. I'm so glad we did! The service was great, they were hanging fresh art on the walls, everything was super quick and we were on our way with full stomachs having had the most delicious and light pierogi of my life! I will be chasing these flavors when we return home. Don't miss an opportunity to stop here for a quick bite or a leisurely meal.

Bob M.

Yelp
Very good! Classic Polish food served by Polish people! The salad bar has pickles and a true Polish style carrot slaw. Interesting beers available too!

Jica G.

Yelp
Good hearty comfort food near Big Ben and London eye. It's behind the Park plaza Westminster hotel. The service was pleasant and they were very helpful. It can get a bit loud the music but it's a fun atmosphere for a dinner out when your craving something filling to eat.

Yelp
Had a great meal and a total blast at this place. Happened upon it while looking for a different spot in the area and thought "why not?" They took us straight in and were great talking through the menu. They suggested the set menu for 2, which made life easier and gave great variety. Two pints of Polish wheat beer and a flight of vodka shots rounded out the fun. Highlights for me were the pierogis, beet soup, and the beef cheeks, but everything was good. I'd happily return.

Yelp
Great Polish restaurant just a few steps away from Waterloo station. Great service and relaxed ambience inside. All the Polish staples from sausage to pierogies to gulash, all prepared "home style". The pierogies are an absolute must. I'm a big fan and these are among the best I have had. Great food, indoor and outdoor seating, and the go to spot when you want to have a proper meal (I've never left this place not being completely full).

Yelp
Such a great find by our hotel. They have only been open for a month but they have great things going for them.. Namely awesome Polish food, banging beers, and delicious Polish food. In an area with higher priced, mediocre food this restaurant is perfect for the area. Comforting polish food that is delicious and warms the soul. All the employees were super nice and answered all our questions before we ordered. They have an extensive polish beer list and vodkas in house. AND while waiting we were able to sample their salad bar with ALL THE PICKLES AND SAUERKRAUT. A wonderful appetizer while you wait for your meal (and even snag seconds after your meal is served) My friend and I split an order of 2 types of meat and vegetarian pierogis . Each was delicious in their own right. I especially loved my vegetarian ones with a hint of mint. You have the option to have them fried but just get them boiled, you won't be sorry I could not decide on a main meal (even after all those pickles I devoured) and was glad I went with the suggested beef cheeks dish. I was glad I did as they were slow braised and literally dissolved in my mouth. My friend ordered the chicken stuffed with cheese and it was so "horrible" she it all. Definitely recommend for someone who wants something off the beaten path

Yelp
Ughh I really wanted to like this place. My gf is Polish and on my last night in London, I text her on what I should have for dinner. She's lived in London before and knows the Polish community is strong, so she suggested Polish food. After a search it was between this and Bar Polski (I later regretted not going). So I hopped on a lime bike and 25 mins later I was at this cool place by the Waterloo tube. Pierogi time, yes! The seating is cavernous with long picnic tables, think like a Hofbrau brewery hall. The 16 year old host sat me on a table far from everyone, and all by myself and away from the more lively crowd. It felt like I was being punished, but I was hungry and I rolled with it. But then I would try to make eye contact with multiple servers, raised my hand to the host who waved and blew me off, and then the rest of the staff just ignored me. Not even a drink order or offering me water. It was like 15-20 mins before someone (like the manager) came over but I was ready to leave. I was texting my gf about this and just bummed. It's not like they were slammed (I use to be a server) and they had food expediters. All taking orders and sending food to tables that arrived after me. So then I thought maybe this is some anti Asian racist act putting me so far from everyone and the staff treating me like a leper. Especially how this kid blew me off (pictured- you should fire this punk). I started looking at alternatives, but I was famished, they finally sent over a server, and so I decided to stay and ordered. The food was warm and adequate, but I've had better, and certainly the service could have been at least present. I couldn't wait to get out of there. Just a lame way to wrap my first trip to Europe in 2.5 years since the pandemic. But I had a great (sunny!) day afterward just before my flight...

Yelp
Good Polish restaurant with a nice and simple ambient below the arches. Food is conveniently priced, tasty and comes in big portions. They also have a good selection of Polish beers. I had some Pierogi which were really good and as main I had Bigos which was also quite good. Service is friendly but the kitchen is not particularly quick.
google avatar

Brendan W.

Yelp
Food was great, service was good. We love the pirogies and kielbasas sausage. It is a great place for big groups.
google avatar

Ecmie L.

Yelp
We got their Schabowy Breaded Pork Loin with the cinderella mocktail. The drink was really good! Perfect level of sweetness and the different juices that went in it went really well together. The pork loin was also nicely done--the breading was super thin and crispy and well seasoned. The dish came with the unlimited salad bar which was just ok. The selection was extremely small (like maybe 3-4 things to choose from) and the flavors were mediocre.
google avatar

Julie R.

Yelp
The waitstaff here were very kind and we had excellent service. I had the sabowey which is basically like schnitzel and it was pretty good. My favorite thing about this place was their salad bar-they had sauerkraut, pickles, coleslaw and a carrot salad that was delicious!
google avatar

Eric D.

Yelp
Came in hungry after a London bus tour. This place was next to the hotel I was staying at, so thought I'd give it a try. Had the lunch special and had the pierogi lunch plate; which included a drink and small salad bar plate. It was satisfying enough for me! I must say that the ordering process is a bit confusing. You are to make your way to the back in the seating area and grab a menu. Then you walk back to the front to place your order and after that, you go back to find a seat again. I think it'd make more sense to have menus up front and have you order before looking for a bench to sit at because my table got swooped on (taken) when I went back up front to place my order.
google avatar

Connor L.

Yelp
Such a good choice to eat at. My family and I went out on a limb to try Polish food for the first time. Thankfully everything was great and the ambiance was cheery with overall great vibe. The service was good as well. No dish had disappointed me. The pierogis were S tier!
google avatar

Anna G.

Yelp
Hoping that they are suffering from Covid disruption supply chain problems. They were out of 6 listed wines , beers and three main entrees. The food was canned tasting. Industrial tunnel decor meets disco with loud music , lighting. Very thin meat, thickly breaded. Overly whipped mashed potatoes. "Salad" was carrot shreds with maybe vinegar and ...garlic? My partner liked the pierogis.
google avatar

Stephen M.

Yelp
Went out looking for food and ethanol after arriving from Seattle, and wandered across the street from our hotel into...Polish Heaven. The best pierogis I've had since I lived in Manhattan. The service was incredible in the face of a total computer meltdown. 10/10 would recommend, and look forward to coming again.

Pat H.

Yelp
Food was dry and chewy. Perogyi as well as the polish sauerkraut and pork dish. Mashed potatoes was similarly dry and tasteless
google avatar

Samantha J.

Yelp
AMAZING. Got the beef roll-up and ruskie pierogies and they were both to die for. For a lot of people on my group, it was there first time having Polish food and my entire table ordered different items, they loved it all. Would definitely recommend!!
google avatar

Maddie J.

Yelp
On the plus sides, the place does large, hearty portions of pierogi the way your Polish grandmother would cook them (i.e. filling, doughy goodness with insane quantities of sour cream on the side), and the prices are not bad at all. Some of the fillings need a bit of seasoning, but it's perfectly filling, hearty food. There's also an ordering system not dissimilar to putting a prescription in, where you wait with your number to go and collect your pierogi, which can be fun to watch the numbers tick by. In terms of the decor, it's very trendy in style (it's an arch with a very bare, canteen tables kind of vibe) which, while atmospheric in that trendy post-apocalyptic style, is a really weird juxtaposition with 'home-cooked' dumplings... It's not an ambient enough a place that I'd go on a family/date kind of outing, but pierogi is not really a grab and go kind of food so I'm a bit confused about its purpose as a restaurant... That said, if you happened to be tipsy in the area and needed some delicious homely dumplings to soak up the spare beer, this would hit the spot!

Stephen P.

Yelp
I have walked past many times, but they were closed (early morning). One evening, whilst in the area, I decided to stop. Restaurant located on Lower Marsh Road, a quickly gentrifying street with more and more restaurants - not to mention food stalls on weekends, and perhaps also during the week. Good amount of customers when I visited. Quick seating. Ordered soup and noodle dish. Fairly quick delivery of food. Good sized portions. Probably one of the tastier Thai food places I've been. I would definitely visit again.

Yelp
I had looked up places to eat near the London Eye and this popped up - I'm 100% Polish so I was obviously a little bias towards it once it came across the list. I looked into the menu a bit, their website, and pictures so I decided I just gotta try the Polish mom's cooking. I got there around the early afternoon on a Tuesday there was barely anyone there. The staff was super friendly and attentive & the menus were printed as if they were newspapers. They especially promoted their vodka which I thought was hilarious given the whole association with vodka and Polish people. The staff wore pretty amusing amusing shirts that spelled out the annunciations of some polish words in English (e.g. "crazy" is "dziki" in polish but their shirt would say "gee-ki"). I ultimately decided to order their style of Fish n Chips which was practically what I expected except their fish was breaded instead of fried. Buying an entree also entitled you access to their salad bar, which consisted of classics like cut beets, a cucumber salad, and sliced pickles. I washed it down with a nice cold beer and it didn't take much for waitress to entice me to some vodka to top it all off. Loved the food, service, and experience. If you're in the mood for polish food, you gotta make your way to Mamuska's!!
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
Awesome authentic Polish food. The beef pierogi were a little bland so the needed the onions and sour cream. The pork schnitzel was one of the best I've had. The Russian style pierogis tasted like the ones I had growing up from an authentic Polish cook.
google avatar

Joan M.

Yelp
Stopped here for dinner before going to the very touristy London Eye. It's on a cute side street near Leake Street tunnel. It was lovely to sit outside as it was a warm evening. Food was delicious. Potato/cheese pierogies were flavorful and not as dense/heavy as pierogies can be. Adding sautéed onions, sour cream & bacon made them even more delicious! Husband & I both ordered the pork cutlet with mushroom sauce, which we thoroughly enjoyed but it was very filling- could have split one order. My son got the pork goulash which was very tender & nicely seasoned. Good selection of Polish beers, vodkas. Didn't have room for dessert!

Clayton W.

Yelp
Loved everything about this place. The staff were exceptionally welcoming, friendly and informative. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. There was a great unique salad bar. The atmosphere was really open, trendy and fun. Everything we ordered was great: vegan salad (simply and perfectly dressed with olive oil and herbs), vegan stew with rice, beef roll up, ruskie pierogis with bacon and sour cream, sausage and mash. Could recommend any of those dishes but I think the sausage and mash was the stand out. So happy to have found this gem.
