The best store for Chinese art supplies on the island by far! Great staff too, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Well beyond novelty items, they had a deep collection of everything you would need for any for of ink painting or calligraphy work. A huge paper, brush and ink selection.

Staff are very helpful. A gentleman helped me find entry-level calligraphy booklets and shared his understandings about several calligraphers. Quite a variety of goods at difference prices. More importantly, the Cantonese noodle shop he recommended is delicious!

They are so kind and explain things in detail. Also the items are good quality.

The staff here are pretty nice. I didn’t know much about Chinese calligraphy since I was just a beginner. After goofing around about ten minutes, an older man came by, asking me if I needed help. He offered me a couple of writing brushes and different paper types to choose. I didn’t know which was the best and he gave me a detailed description of each of the products. I was a little bit shocked, to be honest, as I saw the Google reviews aren’t very nice. Totally out of my expectations, it was an excellent purchase—reasonable price with good quality stuff.

Where do I start. I love, just love this shop. I'm a painter (primarily oil and egg tempera) from the West (U.S.). I'm only visiting HK for four weeks and wanted to study Chinese painting and explore the art materials. While Man Luen Choon was tricky to find (it has no street presence and was on the 2nd floor) the store far surpassed my expectations. If you're looking for paper, silk, brushes, calligraphy ink stones, paper weights or books on Chinese painting then this is the shop for you. I didn't find any books in English but that wasn't what I was looking for, really. The owner was helpful and generous and the prices weren't all that bad compared to American art supplies. Five stars.

It is a Chinese painting marital shop. But the staffs hate any things from China mainland ether goods or person! Some very good brush and paper colours made in China they all don't suggest the customer to buy. They are eager to let you buy Japanese goods, perhaps it's better, but it's the right for customer to make choice.

I don't usually complain, but this is offensive! I'm a professional artist and have been a loyal customer to Man Luen Choon for 3 years. I like this shop very much as it offers a comprehensive selection of art supplies. The young gentleman who used to serve me is very friendly and helpful. Yesterday, I went there for a quote on their mounting service of a 'Hanging Scroll". A bald and bearded, middle-aged man served me. He said he would show me something made of cow horn. I told him that I don't need anything fancy, just the cheapest one will do. My artwork will be shipped to Europe for an exhibition, after that, my art dealer would probably cut it out and frame it according to their style. As an artist, I demand quality craftsmanship that wouldn't ruin my works. Then he yelled at me in front of other customers, "If you need cheap stuff, we don't want your business. Go to Shenzhen! You can do it for a hundred bucks." He waved his hands as a gesture of telling me to "Go away!" and refused to give me a quote. He repeated that they didn't want my business in front of other customers. My husband finally said, "Does it cost over $10,000? If so, we don't want it." This guy finally gave me a quote by looking at a chart. It took just a few minutes. I find that extremely insulting and disrespectful! I have been treated well by galleries and clients throughout the USA and Europe. This is definitely a "cultural shock" for me as a Chinese-American who speaks fluent Cantonese!
