"Located about a 30-minute drive from the ferry terminal on Waiheke island's far eastern coast, Man O' War is the most remote of Waiheke's 23 vineyards—which means it's off the path of the hop-on, hop-off wine tasting buses that traverse the island's hills each weekend. The ride to the vineyard, curving along picturesque bays and through vine plot-covered hills, is bumpy, dusty, and slow. In a more developed area, the ride could take just a handful of minutes, but at 10 mph or so, it's the definition of "taking the scenic route." Man O' War Vineyards' casual tasting room lets you enjoy Waiheke's natural beauty. Unlike most tasting rooms in the area, where vineyards are adjacent to the tasting rooms—or at least within view—Man O' War's 150 acres of grapes are scattered over 76 individual blocks across the island, each with their own terroir. That allows winemaker Duncan Mctavish to concoct unique blends, like the Gravestone white, 25 percent semillon and 75 percent sauvignon blanc, and the Pinque Rose, made with 30 percent syrah, 34 percent malbec, and 36 percent merlot all culled from vines along the nearby Cactus Bay. You can order a flight if you want, or take a few tasting sips a la carte to figure out which full glass to settle on. There's even a pretty good in-house lager for the wine-averse. Man O' War is the only beachfront tasting room on Waiheke, with a quiet, white sandy beach just past the rows of picnic tables to keep kids (and bathing suit-toting adults) entertained in the cool waters. Wandering around barefoot as Kiwis do, glass of wine in one hand, cheese plate in the other, looking out onto the nearly still water with the Coromandel Peninsula in the distance, the stop at Man O' War was one of the most idyllic parts of our trip. Erin's intel, as usual, was right. Which makes me think part of Man O' War's charm is feeling like you've stumbled upon this unknown, otherworldly place. As if its location—which feels quite literally like another planet—is only revealed through those who've been let in on this wonderful secret."

Wine and Scenic Delights at Man O’ War🍷⛅️ Man O’ War is truly a gem! Our visit for a wine tasting was an absolute delight. The journey there, though on gravel, was a scenic adventure. Once we arrived, we were seated at a table with a great view overlooking Man O’ War Bay with stunning vistas of Pakatoa Island and Rotoroa Island. The staff were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, taking the time to share the fascinating story behind Man O’ War and each wine we tasted. It made the experience feel personal and engaging. We paired our wine tasting with Toasted Foccacia with Olive Oil and Honey. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Man O’ War for anyone looking to enjoy fantastic wine and gorgeous scenery!

Excellent wines and tasting range. If you purchase any two wines then your tastings would be free (best way for others to try your offerings). Food was amazing as well and the kids enjoyed the playground!

Such a lovely spot on a perfect sunny day. The food was great and on time for our group visit served by friendly staff. Unfortunately appears no coffee machine therefore no flat whites and the alternative almost cold even with added hot water, the latter requiring heating the jug. Serving utensils would be good, even though I requested but not successful, and personal knives and forks for this purpose not food safe.

Great experience! We were laughing from start to end. Can't remember the thing gentleman's name but he has a mullet and couple of piercings. Great food, great wine! And the shuttle bus to get out their was awesome as well.

Hard to judge this one. Went for that Flight School, which was amazing. It was so wonderful seeing the trees and zip lining. We loved it! It was weird that we booked a time and then discovered no buses / coaches ran at that time so we had to get a taxi for $120! Which was insane. But we were feeling very pretty chipper after the zip lining. And ready to taste some wine. But first. We wanted a bite to eat. Lunch in the restaurant was .. fine. Not great service. Not great food. Wait staff made us feel a bit of a hinderance. Food was fine. But nothing particularly memorable. It really hit the skids with the wine tasting. It was bad. We waited at the tasting room being ignored for 20 minutes. Until well after the time our tasting was due to have started. Manowar might create amazing wines. But I’m not really sure and we didn’t get to really try any. Wines were served with a pipette and we were charged $75! For 4 tiny barely filled glasses. The girl doing the ‘wine tasting’ knew just about as much as the menu. It felt like a cash grab and it was pretty shocking. Came to Waiheke on my Honeymoon and this was the low point. Do better. (It was a bit sht).

$32 for a cheese and rocket pizza that is only a medium in size and didn't even take that good? Chips were like the leftovers from the packet and cost $10? Service wasn't great either where the waiter never turned up and we had to just order online with QR code. Great location with an overpriced and overheated food experience. Wouldn't recommend.

We dined at the restaurant at Man O War!! It was a lovely experience and the food was outstanding. Before coming here, I read a review that the pizza was too sloppy and oily. That was 100% not the case for our pizza, which was piping hot and cooked to perfection with a crispy base, melty cheese and delicious toppings. We loved it! I docked one star off the service though, we bought a bottle of wine (to take home) which was added to our total bill and then a public holiday surcharge was applied over the total bill. I don’t think the bottle (as distinct from the meal we had in service) should have been subject to a surcharge as of course I could have purchased that off the website on the same day without paying a 10% premium. I don’t necessarily agree with the approach taken by this restaurant. The public surcharge is applicable to the meal at the restaurant but should not have been applied to the bottle of wine (which was not enjoyed at the restaurant). When you go shopping on a public holiday, surcharges do not apply to goods purchased at retail shops, so why should that principle apply differently here to a bottle we bought to take home? This did not sit right with me.

When we first started planning our wedding, we knew we wanted somewhere beautiful, relaxed, and full of heart - Man O’ War delivered that and so much more. From the first email to the last dance, the entire experience was seamless, warm, and honestly, a little bit magical. Lea, the incredible events manager, made everything feel effortless. She took the weight of planning off our shoulders so we could actually enjoy the build-up to the big day. Her calm energy, attention to detail, and pure passion for what she does made us feel completely at ease; Like we were in the hands of an old friend who just happens to be ridiculously good at pulling off dream weddings. On the day itself, the staff were unbelievable. Every person we interacted with was welcoming, thoughtful, and genuinely excited for us. It felt less like dealing with a venue, and more like being embraced by a team who were personally invested in making our day unforgettable. Special mention has to go to Lottie, who surprised us during our final song by bringing out sparklers. It turned an already perfect moment into pure magic - something we’ll never, ever forget. We were lucky enough to stay in the cottage onsite, which is its own little slice of paradise. Immaculately clean, beautifully designed, and nestled in the stunning scenery - waking up there the morning after was like living in a dream. There aren't enough words to properly thank the Man O’ War team for the care, effort, and heart they poured into our day. If you're looking for a wedding venue that feels real, special, and totally unforgettable - this is it. We honestly wouldn’t change a single thing.

Yelp
This was my second time here, my last was 5 years or so ago. It's even better than before, To be honest, even if this place was awful it would be worth going to. The drive to get to Man of War, and it's location itself is possibly the most beautiful part of Waiheke, The wine was lovely, the food delicious and the scene, incredible.

Yelp
Man O'War is all the way across the island from the ferry terminal, but it is well worth the drive! The tasting here is complimentary, and there is an outdoor picnic area where you can chill and enjoy your food and wine while staring out at the spectacular view. It was a really warm day, so we settled on the rose and spent a good hour or two just hanging out. We also had the pork rib, bruschetta, and ceviche, all extremely delicious. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Every vineyard I visited on Waiheke island had amazing views. It must be one of the requirements for having a vineyard on the island. But this place was different, in a good way. Five of us packed into a small rental car and embarked on what would be one of the most bumpy rides ever from Oneroa. There are no public transport available yet to take you to this location. There are quite a few fields of sheep to entertain you along the way. After nearly an hour(?) of slow bumpy driving on non-paved roads, you arrive at the most scenic vineyard ever. And instantly, your mindset and mood change for the better. The servers know the path you had to take to visit, so they pour their tastings for free! How awesome! Yes, they start with the sauvignon blanc, but this was one of the most interesting whites I've ever had. And to be fair, I usually dont like white wines. Their red blends are the stars in my eyes. And while they dont cost as much as the ones in Stonyridge, they definitely hold their own. We bought a bottle to share and spent the next hour just indulging in the beautiful surroundings. They also have blankets for you to use, as well as picnic tables. They had some lemon olive oil to sample, which was out of this world. And their honey wasn't bad either. We didn't order any food, it they do have some cheese plates to complement the wines. Just remember blue cheese and you'll be fine. If life is made up of memorable moments, I want most of them to be like this day. Wonderful day, wine and company. Couldn't ask for more.

Yelp
You need a 4 wheel car to get here! It was a long drive on a super dusty gravel road. I would not recommend trying to bike or walk. We saw some people biking and they were covered in dust. We rented our car from Waiheke Motors and it worked great. We did a wine tasting around noon but they were already super busy. If I could do it all over again I would try to get on the 8am ferry from Auckland to Waiheke. Then drive over before everyone else and get in line right when they open before it is too packed. Or you could take a boat there and just chill the whole day on the beach. But we wanted to drive around the island since we only had one day so that is why we decided to rent a car. Only regret was not staying on the island in a hotel for 2 days. We had to cram in 6 wineries into one day - they were all great! If you only have one day then try to hop on the 8am ferry from Auckland because the ferry lines get packed after 9am. Here was our schedule: Man O' War - Wine Tasting Passage Rock - Wine Tasting and Pizza Lunch Casita Miro - Wine Tasting Stoney Ridge - Wine Tasting/Nap on the lawn Batch - Wine Tasting Mudbrick - Sunset Dinner Really beautiful spot on the water! Would come back here again.

Yelp
Beautiful surrounds, along with great wines and an informative tasting made for a really great visit. We came on a Monday, and how the tasting room to ourselves fairly early in the day. we received a complimentary testing of three of the wines, which we were able to select, and afterward each purchased a glass to enjoy while we walked around the grounds. Plenty of tables to enjoy the amazing Bay views. We really enjoyed the Bordeaux blends, and both choose to have a glass of warspite. As a note, they offer some snacks and food, so outside food is not welcome.

Yelp
Great atmosphere as it's apparently the only beachfront cellar door in NZ. The plentiful outdoor seating complements the beach cellar door and provides a leisurely atmosphere to watch the beautiful bay and the boats docked there. Wines are solid and the olive oil is outstanding. The regular olive oil draws out the flavors of what you're eating with it. They have bread to taste it with. Lemon had a hint of Meyer lemon type fragrance which made it equal if not more interesting than the regular oil. Wines were good but maybe not outstanding but you may find yourself compelled to buy some as the atmosphere is so nice. Well worth the 40 min drive out there.

Yelp
Know what? I am not even writing about the wine. I recall we tasted some, and I think I thought it was nice, but I honestly don't recall. What I am writing about, is their honey! Sweet Jesus! This is, completely, totally, nectar of the God's stuff. Unlike any honey I have ever had. It's slightly granular in texture, and pale gold in colour, it settles into a silky sheen in the jar after it has been disturbed. Glossy. Gorgeous. I find it hard to restrain myself from just scooping a quarter teaspoon from the jar if I see it! In my opinion, it is worth hiring a car just to go and buy some. Buy a CRATE!! Customs will allow you to bring it in! Why am I writing this review now? Because my jar is now half full, and, I like to think of myself as a "Half Full" kind of girl, but I am secretly looking at it thinking "OMG! It's half empty!!" Better see if they ship it to Australia.

Yelp
A lot of people are surprised how big Waiheke is on their first visit and the drive to Man O'War Bay is a really great way to see more of the island than the Oneroa to Onetangi circuit. It is a bit of a trek over dirt roads, but the scenery - dry and stark hills rising out of the ocean, compared to the bush and baches of the rest of Waiheke - makes it worth it. The winery is right on Man O'War Bay, set in a sweet colonial-style little house. I'd be quite happy to live there - especially with a life-time supply of their wine... try the rose, it's amazing. Anyway, it's a lovely place to sit on picnic blankets and chill for the afternoon, snacking on their delicious platters and sipping wine - they also have a boules set, and the sea is across the road for more active types.

Yelp
The environment is very scenic and beautiful. The wines are just ok. It's a long way up the dirt curvy road for just ok wine!
