Safe harbour: How Christchurch is saving its penguin populations - SilverKris

"A coastal conservation landscape that has been transformed by decades of hands-on stewardship into the country’s largest mainland colony of little/white‑flippered penguins. The site now supports more than 1,260 breeding pairs, protected by hundreds of numbered wooden nest boxes, an extensive predator‑control network (about 225 traps) and regular monitoring of roughly 100 nests each summer. Managers also plant trees to provide shade for heat‑sensitive yellow‑eyed penguins, care for injured chicks, and use guided land and sea tours to fund the work. The bay’s turquoise waters, nearby sunning seals and nocturnal shore returns—with some adults walking over a kilometre uphill to feed their chicks—make it both an important wildlife refuge and a striking place to observe natural penguin behaviour." - Rebekah White

Flea markets are as good or not pending what interests you. The day we went there were about 30 vendors with about 10 that had items we appreciated. Of those- there were about 5 that we thoroughly appreciated and left a bit of change behind. Definitely a local vibe while visiting LBI and very refreshing. All vendors were welcoming, friendly and really nice people ( no matter if you purchased something from them or not).

Great time and weather was fantastic! It rained towards 2:30 pm and we packed up as if we were on a drill. We'll be back tomorrow!

Fun. Had live music. We brought stuff to sell. 15 bucks for a table and spot. 10 bucks on Sunday. Some empty tables. Could have used more folks there.

The place is a dump, there were maybe 5 tables, I throw out better crap then they were selling. Total waste of time!!!!! I was there two weeks ago.

If you are shopping: you can find some good deals but it is hit or miss. Difficult to manage stroller/wheel chair/walker on the gravel. If you are selling: one table is provided and there is room to add your own. They need to advertise more in order to draw in the foot traffic needed by sellers.

Great little flea market with indoor shores as well, check out Pangaea for health food and veggies and if vegetarian or eating healthy definitely go to Living on the Veg, great little place. They also have a cheese shop and bakery. We are definitely trying the bbq joint next time, pointers porch , it smelled amazing!

I found this by accident trying to get a title at the DMV. The venders were quality. I was impressed. A few high quality costume jewelry dealers, Great looking fresh produce with reasonable prices, some yard sale type setups, a tree slab sales person, and some vendors selling pretty nice clothing. I heard that the subs are a bargain and filling. I didn’t get to try one. I live 45 minutes away and I would go back. I was there this past Saturday, June 18. One of the jewelry vendors had never been there before and is usually closer to NY.

Fun little flea market during the warmer months. There are permanent year-round indoor shops and lots of outdoor vendors. A fun little local secret. There is even live music sometimes! Because to stop at La Cabañita on your way home.
