Why Luang Prabang Is the Ideal Southeast Asian City

"Manda de Laos: A romantic little restaurant set atop a pond stocked with carp and water lilies. Concentrate here on the salads—banana blossom with chicken; shredded fish with mint and shallots—which are refreshing and subtle. The rice pudding, which comes with a suite of toppings, is very good as well."

The most beautiful restaurant with the most beautiful people working there and an incredibly talented chef. I don’t usually eat at hotel restaurants, but instead we had breakfast there daily and dinner and lunch once. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. The portions were great and the presentation was carefully considered. Some of the best food I’ve had in my 5 weeks in Asia

Good food, charming ambiance, and excellent service. The food here is tasty and well-prepared, offering a satisfying dining experience. What really makes this place special is the ambiance—a lovely little garden with a serene lake right in the heart of the city. It creates a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxing while you enjoy your meal. The service is excellent as well; the staff are friendly, attentive, and make sure you feel welcome throughout your visit. A great spot to escape the city buzz without leaving town!

Exceptional cuisine, immaculate service, and beautiful atmosphere!! 🌱🪷🌴Even after we checked out of the hotel, we had to come back just for the food 😋💕we came here for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Every single thing on the menu was a delight. It is an honor to have discovered Laotian cuisine through this restaurant! ຂອບໃຈ 🙏

From the moment we sat down, everything was perfect. They gave us time to look the drink menu. We ordered 2 cocktails Laohito and Honey Moon. The menu was very extensive which I liked. We orderd Laab Buffao, Ar larm pork, Mok Gai, yum mak pi, sticky and jasmine rice. My husband's American so they asked if I wanted it to be Americanized or Lao taste. I Loved that they asked that! I'm Laos and my husband eats like me. The buffalo laab is a must try. Laab Buffalo was brought out on a big tray to mix the herbs there for you in case you were allergic or didnt want too much of anything. Yum mak pi is something I can't find at many restaurants so that was a treat. I loved the flavors and presentation. The price, I thought it was fair. Mostly foreigners there so not many locals. I brought leftovers back to my parents and they loved it too. Food and service were amazing.

Most amazing restaurant I’ve been to in 6 months working in Luang Prabang, and I thought I’ve already tried all good restaurants, honestly I’m sad I didn’t discover it earlier. Unbelievable food, amazing cocktails (get the spicy martini or passion fruit one) and best service I’ve had here in Laos. By far the best part is the atmosphere and location, especially recommend for dinner, perfect place to celebrate a special day! Reserve in advance, it’s popular! I find it funny how the negative reviews here are from stingy Germans who count every cent (I’m German too) complaining that they could’ve gotten food cheaper somewhere else. If you aren’t a backpacker with a 3€ daily budget and have to haggle for 10cents and you go on holiday the right way, not afraid to pay a bit more for a amazing dinner, this is the place for you! Yes it’s expensive for Lao standards, but put it into perspective: I went with my girlfriend, we had 2 waters, 6 cocktails, a starter, 2 main courses and 1 dessert and I paid 100€ in total. In Germany for the same service and comparable food and drink I would’ve paid at least 300-400€, and then I still don’t have an amazing outdoor location like this. . 10/10 recommend

The setting at this restaurant is really beautiful - both the pond and the building itself. The drink selection was quite good as well - lots of wines and cocktails. The food was a tale of 2 halves for us. The appetizer and salad we ordered were very good- we were impressed! We ordered the deep fried seaweed which came with a chili chutney and we also ordered the cucumber salad with the crispy pork belly. For the mains we ordered the Buffalo that was flambéd in Lao whiskey and the steamed fish. Both were ok but lacked flavour and the wow factor we were expecting from this restaurant. Service overall was quite good and attentive. We were also very grateful for a free dessert at the end for our honeymoon :) One thing to note - definitely a lot of “influencers” taking photos here and some were pretty rude - backing up into other tables for long periods of time to take photos so just be prepared!

The atmosphere is stunning (which is why we want to come back for lunch in 3 days). The food is good and quite different - in fact one of the two reasons we want to come back as the salads look interesting. The Pork Tenderloin Red Curry tasted fine but the Pork was not tender and not shredded! The fish was good but the accompanying banana flower was not. The Pork Pate was good but too many herbs. The wine was not very good and there were NO Malbec options. So, yes, I was expecting better results from such an ostentatious restaurant but it really didn’t live up to expectations - food wise - but the atmosphere was stunning (though the music was extremely weird!!! - like, what even was that?), but, in spite of that, we will be back.

We did the set Manda de Laos tasting menu. I couldn’t fault one dish on the menu. It was absolutely phenomenal. Give yourself enough time here to take in the venue and space out your courses - it’s well worth it.
