Hello,
We stayed in ‘Defne’ room for 3 nights with 3 people and unfortunately we did not have a pleasant stay.
The positive experience is the nice view.
The negative experiences are as following.
-Not worth the money. The other hotel we stayed at, Carruba boutique hotel, ended up being more luxurious than Mandalina (and they don’t even claim they are luxurious)
-There was one person in the restaurant (a little older guy, in his 50s I think?) taking orders for breakfast who leashed out on us for ordering ‘too much’.
The breakfast starts at 8:30 and one of us went to the restaurant a little earlier, around 8:15 and asked if she could have a coffee.
This is not new to them, it happened with other guests also. When me and my sister also arrived at the table this guy asked us what we wanted to drink and eat. We ordered 3 tea, 3 orange juices, 1 menemen (a Turkish dish) and 1 dish with sausage and eggs to share. After the food we asked if we could get Turkish coffee. I want to emphasize here that we were very friendly and polite to him and all the staff all the time, and that all these things we ordered we could not get ourselves but had to order.
As a last ask (after the coffee) we wanted a bottle of water and asked the guy ‘as a last ask, could we please have..’.. but we couldn’t even finish our sentence or the guy leashed out on us yelling ‘that’s enough, you’re ordering too much and you’re sitting here for too long’.
He was literally yelling in front of the other guests, which left us speechless. I think what we asked for was not a lot, and even if it was a lot, he doesn’t have the right to do that. We paid for the breakfast that includes everything.
After leaving a complaint at the reception they did not come with a solution and just said ‘ we’re apologizing on behalf of him’. But it doesn’t mean anything if that person doesn’t apologize himself, which he never did
-The room, bed and pillows were not clean and smelled disgusting (sorry, but we couldn’t sleep because of the smell).
There were holes in the blindfolds and so much dust (they never cleaned under the bed, couch, the ‘door’ that devides the bathroom and living room, the shower cabinet, and many more places like this
-The reception is only open from 10? am-5 pm, which is weird in my opinion. I wanted to report a couple of things, but I never got the chance
-When I booked it said that we would have 1 big bed for 2 people and 1 bunkbed, but there was no bunkbed. One of us had to sleep on the couch, which was not clean.
They did give us a cover to sleep on the bed, but the cover was still damp and smelled exactly like that, damp and moldy.
-They call themselves luxury suites, but there was absolutely nothing luxury about it. The idea of the set-up of the rooms are nice in theory, but it looks like they’ve built it and never maintained the rooms. I really regret not taking pictures to show. As I mentioned before the room has a very weird/dusty/rusty smell, I think it’s because it’s not being maintained at all (or not well).
-There was barely hot/warm water, so we showered with cold water all the time.
-The rooms, restaurant, pool, private beach etc is not easily accessible. It has SO many stairs, that people with health conditions could absolutely not walk. Even I had a hard time walking up and down those stairs (and I’m a healthy person in her 30’s). The hotel should have mentioned this, but they did not. It is not mentioned anywhere.
Especially with suitcases it is very hard.
-It’s difficult to get into the sea because the entrance is right next to the big rocks which leads to very big waves. It’s difficult to get into the water by using the stairs leading into the sea. Me and my sister have multiple scratches on our legs because the waves were so strong it threw us towards the rocks when we were on the stairs getting in and out of the water. I’m mentioning this to say that the private-beach is not worth it (in my opinion). So, if you want to choose this hotel because of the private-beach, I would recommend not to do it.
All the best.
