Mandarin Oriental, Geneva

"This "stylish hotel with modern amenities" on the Rhône has Adam Tihany–designed public spaces that include a "dramatic, sweeping staircase." Modern, Asian-influenced lines and a "boutique feel" pervade rooms in bold colors and earth tones. Rasoi by Vineet uses Indian spices—"the tasting dinner was one of our all-time favorites." "The efficiency and friendliness of the staff add to the appeal."

"Mandarin Oriental Geneva With the scenic Rhone River right on the doorstep and the atmospheric cobbled streets of Geneva’s historic Old Town all around, the Mandarin Oriental represents a splash of modern luxury in a charming and traditional setting. The 189 rooms, all renovated in 2013, have a discerningly modern-luxe feel, with earthy, neutral color schemes, an abundance of space, comfort, and amenities—from the espresso machines to the pillow menu—and state-of-the-art in-room entertainment. The marble bathrooms are large enough to host separate rain showers and baths, and if you book a suite you will find plentifulHermes bath products. All of the rooms have excellent views, of either the garden, the street, or the river, though only the 7 th -floorrooms have a river-facing terrace. There are several dining options on-site, including an acclaimed Indian restaurant, and the spa offers some seriously high-end pampering."

Mandarin Oriental, Geneva, a Design Boutique Hotel Geneva, Switzerland

"The luxurious Mandarin Oriental hotel is located on the right bank of the Rhone river, only a few minutes away from Geneva’s financial institutions, premier shops and galleries. The refurbished interiors are superbly stylish, preserving the fine Art-Déco details, but above all business and leisure guests enjoy Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service. The Mandarin Oriental will definitely become a landmark when it comes to gourmet cuisine in Geneva, introducing 2 new restaurants. Both are designed with cosmopolitan elegance by the acclaimed designer Adam Tihany. The inventive Rasoi is the fine dining restaurant serving tasty Indian cuisine by London-based, Michelin awarded Chef Vineet Bahtia. The legendary Paul Bocuse is the inspiration behind the Mandarin Oriental's brasserie, Le Sud." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

Mandarin Oriental Geneva (Geneva, Switzerland) 3 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"As the name probably suggests, the Mandarin Oriental hotels were first conceived a long way from Switzerland. But we would argue that there’s possibly no European city so well suited to the MO’s particular strengths as Geneva. This is a place with a deep appreciation for the finer pleasures in life, and a similarly deep appreciation for an operation that runs like a finely tuned machine. (If you’re Swiss you might be wondering why we just said the same thing twice.) And there may be no more blissful marriage of sensory pleasure and sheer professional effectiveness than the Mandarin Oriental, Geneva. Once upon a time this was the Hôtel du Rhône, a rare postwar modernist landmark. Its historic façade remains as grand as ever, while the interiors have been updated in a style that pays tribute to the hotel’s century-plus of history as well as the landscapes of Switzerland. The look is contemporary, and above all it’s eminently palatable — the Mandarin Oriental is not in the business of taking anything too far. The only thing that verges on excess, in fact, is the sheer comfort of it all, especially the marble bathrooms with their walk-in showers. And it’s in the department of food and drink that the Mandarin Oriental, Geneva most straightforwardly displays both Eastern and Western influences. SACHI, the flagship restaurant, features the Japanese cooking of a Nobu-trained chef, as well as an omakase bar; it’s complemented by the Mediterranean flavors of Ottolenghi." - Tablet Hotels

This Mandarin Oriental (MO) is probably one of the older properties in this famed chain. ||Located along a waterside tributary from Lake Geneva, it is a busy hotel which seems to host a lot of guests. ||Reception was excellent and helpful. As were the doormen. ||The room was what I felt was somewhat of a let down. For a junior suite in a MO property, it is rather small. The bathroom is split into two parts - one section with a very tiny shower and one section across a short corridor with the bathtub. A very odd design. Wardrobe was very tiny as well. The lighting controls did not seem to work logically. ||Bedding was however very good and to my liking especially the firm mattress and pillows. ||There were a number of hiccups - the door lock and card keys didn’t work, the pen didn’t work (housekeeping probably didn’t check) and the carpet had bits of solid dirt which should have been vacuumed and removed. ||Breakfast was decent enough though the fruit selection was not good. ||Room service was very prompt. Overall service was what you’d expect of a MO Hotel.

Excellent stay! Everything was absolutely perfect during my stay. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the room was spotless and comfortable, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The location was ideal, and every detail was thoughtfully taken care of. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience in Geneva, highly recommended for any occasion. Also the breakfast was delicious, with a great variety of fresh and tasty options to start the day. I will definitely come back to Geneva and to Mandarin oriental! Thank you

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this hotel. From the quality of the rooms to the wonderful food in the various restaurants and - not to forget - the extremely professional and friendly, customer-oriented staff. In this respect we especially valued the service and support provided by Mattéo. We definitely and positively recommend this hotel.

My wife and I recently returned to the Mandarin Oriental, Geneva — a place I first stayed back in 2008. It felt wonderful to see that, after all these years, the hotel still embodies the same warmth, elegance, and attention to detail that make Mandarin Oriental so special. From the heartfelt welcome to the beautifully appointed room and outstanding food, everything was perfectly executed. It truly felt like coming home to luxury.

Organizing a group visit, we couldn’t have chosen a better hotel. The staff was exceptionally kind and attentive, making every guest feel truly cared for. The service was impeccable and the location ideal. A perfect blend of luxury and care that made everyone feel like a star. A big thank you to all the staff behind the scenes: your dedication made the experience unforgettable.

It was not a horrible experience, but it was the worst experience I've ever had at a Mandarin Oriental Hotel. I have stayed many times at both MO properties at Hong Kong and London, as well fewer times in Istanbul, Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo, and Shanghai. While the Singapore one is the least fancy of the set, it was still an excellent hotel with superior service. I confess I had moved my loyalties over COVID to Four Seasons and Park Hyatt, but I was looking forward to the Mandarin Oriental Geneva. Sadly, the Geneva hotel does not measure up. My usual go to in Geneva is Beau Rivage or Four Seasons, but due to the choices of business partners, I stayed in the MO Geneva for this trip. My room faced the water but had an unusual layout with a small bathroom with a shower and sink, and a much larger room with no shower but a bathtub with no enclosure or curtain, a bidet and a sink. Neither of the sinks would drain well and the shower sprayed water all over the bathroom; if the shower door was not carefully sealed (difficult to do from inside the shower) there would be water completely covering the bathroom floor. The body wash in the shower was also entirely empty so I had to shower upon arrival with shampoo. Worse than the issue itself was that after mentioning the problems within two hours of my arrival, only the soap issue was assessed. The shower was not repaired until I mentioned it again on my third day. The lack of international outlets by the workspace was also unfortunate. Two of the days I was there housecleaning did not sevice the room though my do not disturb was on for two and three hours between 9 am and 5 pm. Finally, service at the restaurant was atrocious. The Japanese restaurant service was fine (though not at the level I would experience in Tokyo), the bar was acceptable but very slow, but the breakfast restaurant was terrible. Not only was it slow, but they routinely forgot orders they confirmed (bottled water, Tabasco on two occasions, a coffee order on two occasions, putting coffee in a mug to allow my handicapped friend to manage it on three occasions), as well as ignoring a spill until we brought it to their attention that we expected cleanup. Generally staff were not attentive or thoughtful, and there was not a single meal service that did not have a poor service incident! Food quality was competent but nothing great. The breakfasts were ok, what I might expect at a Marriott hotel. Bar had light pours. There was tremendous amounts of hype from the staff about the Japanese restaurant, it was competent but I was disappointed since it was billed as the best in Geneva (I routinely have omakase at better cities for sushi including Tokyo, New York, London, Seattle, Singapore, etc, so I do not blame the restaurant for this, though the server didn't know the difference between chu toro and otoro). Doorman service was excellent. This is a service level I would not expect even from a budget hotel, but certainly not from a Mandarin Oriental.

I was here for a night last weekend with my friend. WE got a double bed room overlooking the Rhone River. Room was comfortable, bed was stylish, and I appreciated the nespresso machine in the room. Shower had great pressure and I liked the toiletry brand they have here - diptyque. Had drinks in the bar with my some other friends- great service and lots of interesting options on the list. Breakfast in the morning had lots of good options. Easy walking distance to the lake and to other areas of interest. Great location. I'd stay here again.

I am checking out tomorrow but I could not resist to post a comment while I have some time. This hotel is a massive disappointment, it feels that some rooms are renovated if I saw well into the Mandarin marketing website. Others are not, mine is clearly not. It’s an awful mix of curtains and carpet colours that you have not seen since probably the late 80s in Europe. The window soundproofing is almost inexistent and the back courtyard is overseeing dozens of bin containers. I cannot imagine the view on the second floor…I didn’t try the restaurants but the room service and instead picked the usual choice when you want to compare apples to apples across hotels: the cheeseburger. Well it was probably the worst cheeseburger I had in my life. The meat was awful, the bun a disaster, the cheese was probably a slice coming from the supermarket nearby. In short: insipide/tasteless. You’ll probably get a better one at the rail station at burger king for a third of the price. The avocado houmous had the same taste as paper and were looking like an UPF purée, needless to comment further. In short, very well located hotel but if you have to stay in the room and you are given one facing the courtyard, well ask for a refund and simply run away from this place!

Yelp
We chose to stay at the Mandarin Oriental in Geneva for two nights this past week, based on all the great reviews. Unfortunately, our stay was less than average. On the plus side, staff is very friendly and they try to help. (Key word TRY). Now the bad: Our first room was something out of Barbie's Dream House circa 1982. While large, the whole room was pink and hideous and very outdated. The view was of a parking lot (not the city view as promised), and the shower pressure and temperature were so intermittent that we alternatively burned ourselves and then froze. At one point the ancient shower head couldn't withstand the pressure and flew off the holder and hit me in the face. Since we arrived close midnight we didn't have the energy to request a new room and thus embraced our inner 80's. The following morning, however, I called down to the front desk and expressed my concerns and dissatisfaction. Elisa (or Lisa) was very polite and quickly assured me that they'd find a new room for us. After a very subpar buffet breakfast (surprisingly lackluster for a Mandarin Oriental - I'm glad it was included in our Amex package or I would have been very disappointed) Lisa took us to view our new room. The new room was in a renovated part of the hotel and was far more in line with what we were expecting. (Thank God for muted tones.) The view was stunning, the decor nice, and the room was still quite large. After moving in to our new room I requested a discount on our first night, as it certainly wasn't worth the 700+ CHF we paid. They granted us a measly 25% off, which was absurd seeing as we could have stayed in a better room at another hotel for half the price. Overall I appreciate that Mandarin tried to make things right but we left knowing we'll unlikely stay at a Mandarin property again. There are too many good hotels out there to keep overpaying at the Mandarin.

Yelp
We checked in with amex centurion.. the room was very outdated , dirty and had a smoker next door, on a non smoking floor, the whole room smelled of smoke.. the front desk did apologize and brought us to a larger " not renovated room" the " upgraded room" was full of strains on floor, stains on all furniture, some half eaten food next to coffee machine, towel with makeup stains, broken toilet cover, stains on floor next to bed, cheap toilet paper like paper bag( see pics) , like a a cheap vegas motel, rather disappointing for 600$ per night.. and when i entered the floor there where some shaddy guys caring guns who told me aggressively that i cant walk on this side of hotel??.. i asked amex to call the front desk and tell them that i wanted to check out, they said I would be changed over 600$ my daily room rate for that night, Horrible truly a shame for the Mandarin name

Yelp
From outside this hotel seams a little bit old-fashioned (although not as much as the Four Seasons nearby). We had a coffee at the terrasse, which nice views to the river/lake. This is a trendy, chill-out style bar or coffee, nice to relax and "adequate" price level for this establishment and this point on earth

Yelp
We stayed one night and didn't have any problems. We received the rooms we booked, one next to the other, with the correct view. The reception was efficient and friendly. Our rooms were not ready when we checked in so we spent some time sightseeing. The rooms were clean and the shower head was fine for those who care. The morning breakfast was complete and we had good service. The highlight for us was lunch as Rasoi. Excellent.

Yelp
Best Sunday brunch in the city! An astounding number of choices including oysters, sushi, squid and much much more. The warm dishes available were seafood paella and rosini that day. Fresh juices and hot drinks are included. The dessert buffet is superb with a 4 tier chocolate fountain and the most decadent looking desserts too pretty to even eat.

Yelp
Amazing customer service, but for the price, one should expect it. Didnt stay here, but had dinner at the Indian restaurant which has one Michelin star and undoubtedly deserves it. When we arrived at our reserved time, the host told us that our table was not ready yet and would be another 15-20 minutes, but he quickly asked if we wouldnt mind relaxing for a moment and having a complimentary drink at the bar, which we did. It was the best 28CHF drink that I've ever had and didnt have to pay for.

Yelp
Before moving to Geneva I would stay here many times as the service and comfort was first class.i would be greeted with a glass of champagne on arrival and the rooms were exceptionally comfortable and cosy especially in the winter months. there are two restaurants on the ground floor that many people bring guests to as bot the restaurants serve the most amazing menu (lamb and beef a particular good choice)and the service is excellent.
