Breakfast and drinks are good that's about it! The breakfast was the only enjoyable meal we had at the restaurant; the dessert in the evening was disappointing. I didn't hear any positive feedback about the food from other guests either, leading us to decide to eat elsewhere for lunch and dinner. The staff at the beach were not very friendly; they were only pleasant in the restaurant. I had to flag down servers on the beach for drinks; those were good, but the server at the pool overlooked me and was rude. I'm not sure if I would recommend dining here, as many other places on the island offer excellent food.

We loved the beach club at Casa las Tortugas. The location is amazing, with a beautiful sunset view. There’s live music in the evening, and the food was really good too! If you’re looking for a slightly fancier spot on the island, this is the place to go.

Google
We had two great dinners at this amazing venue! Very romantic, near the water, amazing view and such a beautiful place for dinner! The food was also very very good! A bit more pricey that other places but very good quality and taste! Also, veggie options for us such the cauliflower, ravioli and more. Thanks for having us!

The atmosphere is nice, right on the beach, but initially, they seated us at very uncomfortable low tables near the fire. The food was good, and the service was decent, though the welcome wasn’t great, as it seemed like our reservation was a problem for them. You can’t charge such high prices in Holbox, a place without paved roads or sewage systems, for a dinner in a relatively average restaurant with uncomfortable low tables. Also, the QR code menu on the wooden table didn’t even work. I paid less for a BBQ in Dubai with a view of the Burj Khalifa.

We ordered the shrimp tagliatelle, the poke bowl, and the tacos. The taste wasn’t bad, but we were disappointed with the portion sizes for the tagliatelle and the poke bowl. Honestly, the quantity was really not generous at all. That said, we did enjoy the vibe of the place.

A bit pricey but excellent food, service and atmosphere and it is pet friendly 🐕

Amazing view, good food but unfortunate for the service is way too long…

During our trip through Mexico, we had some amazing food experiences, but this spot was definitely one of the highlights. The food was absolutely delicious, and the oceanfront view was straight-up stunning. But what really made the night special was the incredible service from Axel. His recommendations were on point, and he made sure we had an unforgettable dinner with his friendly, laid-back vibe. He was always smiling and genuinely cared about making our night feel special. Can’t wait to come back!

Yelp
This review is for the sushi restaurant that is part of the Mandarina restaurants located upstairs above the Mandarina Restaurant. I'll keep it simple as possible. The restaurant is clean, the staff is professional and very courteous. The food excellent. The portions were small at best as is the case with sushi dishes. My problem was the price. Our bill for two was 4710 pesos or $240 USD. I'm not cheap and can afford to spend what I want to on food. It's not going to strain me financially. That being said, I was blown away by the price based on what we ate. At the finest sushi bar in America this bill would have been Max $100 $115. If you go here just be warned it is extremely expensive for what you get. Like I said, the food was good the price was astronomical and this is just based on what you get for your money. I would definitely not go back here again. In order for me to leave full and satisfied I would have to spend an excess of $500 to $600.

Yelp
Loved Mandarina! Staff is so friendly and helpful and food was truly delicious. The catch of the day was cooked to perfection. Desserts weren't my favorite but everything else was amazing.

Yelp
Setting is fantastic. On the beach, very open, mellow. Was very windy the day we were there but if no wind really nice. We only had drinks and appetizers. Drinks were solid, good selection of tequila. Appetizers were good. Very limited menu, that is why we only had appetizers. Our waiter was helpful and nice. I would eat here again if it wasn't so windy.

Yelp
Great spot for drinks and sunset views; however would not recommend for food. The location and vibe of the place is great but the food is subpar. We had the tagliatelle mushroom and it tasted bland and the sauce felt store bought, also the pasta was over cooked. We also had the grilled lobster which came with sweet potatoes and a fajita mix super weird combo which didn't go together. Again the lobster even though fresh had zero seasoning not even butter. We also ordered the beets salad which was underwhelming also the cheese was overpowering. The setting is gorgeous but the DJ they had Friday night didn't match the vibe of the place - played 90's disco/ electronic. For sunset drink this spot is amazing

Yelp
The ambiance is beautiful, and the service impeccable. Food was good but not great. We were served agua mineral complimentary for the table. I visited with a group of 6 who all ordered appetizers, main and dessert. My main was ok. I wish I would have ordered something else honestly. Dessert was delicious and we had a really lovely time during our dining experience.

Yelp
Food was okay, pretty place but is now renamed with much of original menu transferred to Looma Would not go again!

Sara A.

Yelp
Great service with delicious food and environment. The whole chicken is roasted to perfection with veggies. They sea bass was super yummy too. They have unique grilled baby corn and passion fruit rolls with amazing butter. The view of the sunset and fire pit at night makes for good vibes on the beach. The cocktails, Prosecco and dry Spanish rose made for an enjoyable night.

Yelp
Mandarina is the onsite restaurant at Casa las Tortugas. Every morning, we were treated to a phenomenal breakfast that was included with our hotel stay. Breakfast included coffee, fresh juice of the day, toast, fruit, yogurt and granola and a choice of breakfast entree. I often went with the chilaquiles with red sauce. It was a huge serving that I was never able to finish and it kept me satiated until the afternoon! All of the servers were sweet but we especially liked Ari; we bonded with him after finding out he spent some of his childhood in a town right near where I grew up! The world is small, y'all. We ordered drinks from Mandarina nearly every day on the beach or to cap off our evenings. They had a nice selection of cocktails and wines by the glass, plus Mexican domestics and a local craft beer as well. They also had an extensive list of fresh wellness shots, juices, smoothies and tea. I opted for their good night tea on two of our evenings and it was lovely! We also ended up having lunch from Mandarina twice during our stay - once at the restaurant tables and once right on the beach. Both times I ordered the lobster brioche, which was just as bomb as it sounds. My husband also tried the chickpea crusted fish, served over potato salad, and I thought that was really great as well. Also, it isn't on the menu, but we learned that the kitchen will happily whip up some guacamole, which was much appreciated! Overall, Mandarina is a great onsite restaurant that's a little pricier than other local options, but totally worth it in terms of fresh, delicious food/drinks and convenience!

Yelp
Located in a very nice hotel right as you get into Holbox on the beach road. Really upscale restaurant in Holbox. We started our meal with wine. They had a extensive list of wine by the glass. My wife and I got the lobster pasta. It was good but nothing special. There was a lot of lobster chunks with a half a grilled tail. Service was good and the restaurant decor very nice.

Yelp
By far, this was my favorite restaurant on the island. The atmosphere (and music) is perfect. Mandarina is relaxed, beautiful and full of aromatic smells coming from their wood oven while their outdoor fire pit crackles next to you. The food? Amazing. Whatever you do, make sure you order their mixed vegetables. The smokiness from the wood imparts the most fantastic flavors. We had pulpo that first evening and it was laid on a bed of scallop potatoes that had been smoked in the oven. It was heavenly! The following night, we ordered the fish of the day (Grouper) and it was another show stopper. Again, the vegetables that came with the fish of the day were full of that smoky goodness. Pretty much if you are looking for the best meal on the island, this is it.

Yelp
LOVED the service here. This place is amazing, stayed here during honeymoon and made it a frequent spot. Food was good, great options but the pride is the drinks, service and ambiance/atmosphere. Honestly a little pricey on food for what you get, but again my review for 5 stars isn't for the food here.

Yelp
My husband and I are honeymooning on Isla Holbox.. We chose a Mandarina Seaside Restaurant Casa Las Tortugas and could not have been happier. Such a beautiful restaurant. Service service was outstanding! And we ate the single best dish I've ever had: lobster garnache (sp?) I can't find it on the menu right now, but it is the lobster appetizer. Absolutely delicious! I had the grilled whole fish and my husband had tuna. (Mine was much better than his). The plantain purée on my plate was just so so good! Our waitress was lovely and attentive. We had ordered cheesecake, but she mistakingly brought the chocolate mousse. We were glad that she did! The mousse was delicious. We couldn't have asked for a nicer meal to celebrate our new marriage!

Yelp
I'm so glad this restaurant is able to stay open during COVID-19. My husband and I ate at Mandarina our first night in Holbox. It is actually connected to Casa Las Tortugas, which was right next to our hotel Mawimbi. I really liked the set up because the restaurant overlooks the beach and there is a nice sitting area with a fire pit and bamboo torches with sofas and swings for the laxed patron enjoying a holiday. The staff at Mandarina were very friendly and i was surprised at the extensive menu, which you can access via their WiFi network using QR code's provided when you sit down. My favorite thing on the menu is probably the Limonada Holbox which is a charcoal lemonade drink. It's a bit gritty and the black color may throw you off but it is absolutely delicious! The food was lackluster but the views are amazing. I ordered a Tagliatelle Primavera and it tasted very...fresh. I would have preferred the spices to blend a bit more and cook down before being served. We ordered the braised pork belly as an appetizer. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! It was really good. My husband ordered a chorizo and leek ravioli and he didn't like it at all. The ravioli came with beef that was too chewy and gristly. He didn't like it at all. Again, the drinks are fresh and very well made but the food is a hit or miss. I would maybe only do drinks here and get food in town.

Yelp
Amazing food, service and views on the Isla Holbox. Great hotel and restaurant on this quite little island. Food was so good.

Yelp
Unfortunately the restaurant was badly damaged by the fire which destroyed Casa las Tortugas and is not open at this time.

Yelp
This was one of the more expensive meals and nicer dining experiences we had while visiting in Holbox. Almost every table was taken with a "reserved" sign when we went just before sunset, but we were lucky enough to grab one table. The waiter was very nice and helpful with our questions. The entire meal was delicious, down to the handmade bread and pesto sauce they started us out with. My favorite part of this spot was the view of the palm trees and ocean. It was beautiful as the sun was going down. Definitely the perfect spot for a romantic dinner for two! **FOLLOW MY FOOD INSTAGRAM: @LinnysLunchbox

Yelp
Beautiful location a few blocks away from centro, the restaurant is located in the back of the hotel. Great ocean view seating with comfy seats. Get the lobster!! Vegan Sandwich was also delicious.

Yelp
One of our favorite meals of our entire trip. The decor is beautiful while still welcoming and comfortable. Our 16 mo old loved climbing on and off the bean bag chairs. The food and drinks are fantastic. Get the brushcetta, thank me later ;) Will for sure return on our next visit to the island.

Talin C.

Yelp
Read a lot of great reviews about this place so I wanted to try it with my family. The decor is beautiful, because it is beach front restaurant. The service is laid back and nothing is ever hurried. Decided to get hamburgers since I was tired of the same Mexican taco food. Drinks and food was great but more on the pricier side. All in all, I would come back because it's beautiful there and kids liked the burgers.

Yelp
Popped by for breakfast on the last day of my trip and I'm really glad I did. The food was absolutely scrumptious. I highly recommend the chilaquiles. This was a wonderful way to end my vacation and I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
While visiting the island recently for the first time we decided to save this place for the day of our 7 year anniversary and it did not disappoint. First of all, our waiter Eduardo was the most respectful, courteous, kind, and vigilant waiter we have had I. A long time; and he was not intrusive. We really enjoyed having him as our server. On to the food and restaurant... the food was amazing and did not disappoint and the view on the beach to watch the sunset was romantic. I had the duck in orange mole sauce and recommend it, plus the chocolate volcano cake-- think gooey soufflé. We would go back the next time we journey to Holbox. Definitely check it out; we loved it.

Yelp
The catch of the day was red snapper. We got the whole fish. It was served ten minutes after the other mains... because it was dying again in the wood oven. Served awkwardly on a tiny plate with the vegetable accompaniment on top of it, the manager had to fillet it for us. We dug in with great expectations only to be overwhelmingly disappointed that it was over cooked and so salty. The saltiness was shocking because everything else we had ordered was painfully under seasoned. The crispy guacamole had bland and chewy pork belly squares, and the tortilla chips were chewy. They placed three different types of salt on our table at the beginning of our meal. Obviously because they don't know how to season food properly. Nobody likes a bland chef. So what they did with the over salted and over cooked fish was rather remarkable. What this restaurant got right was the impeccable wait service, ambience and decor. But you can't eat that. And you shouldn't eat there. I wouldn't drink there either because they under pour. Really wanted to love this place. If you're a foodie like me (and I married a world class chef) go to Casa Sandra where the chef trained in Mexico City.

Yelp
You must visit this restaurant if you're in Holbox. We had the pleasure of staying at Casa las tortugas so we dined at Mandarina twice. Service was excellent and food was delicious!

Yelp
On our last morning in Holbox, we went looking for a great breakfast, and boy did we find it. While the Mandarina isn't the cheapest option you will find, it was the most delicious. They have fresh pan dulce that they will bring straight out of the oven for you to choose. We had the chilaquiles and it did not disappoint. Throw in the view of the ocean, and you have yourself a perfect way to start your day.
google avatar

Yelp
Before arriving on Holbox, we had heard wonderful things about Mandarina - the food, the vibe, the staff. Sadly, there was a lot of hype but nothing more. We started with a pasta, which was bland and cold. We had to ask for plenty of parmasan. I ordered the Pork cutlets, which were again, very very plain with very little flavor, while my partner ordered the fish but received the wrong order. So, we cancelled our mains, and they politely asked us to leave.... The service was alright, however, they did not accept anyone after 9pm. It seemed as though the staff were not accepting people.

Yelp
Romantic restaurant with lovely staff. The food is fresh and delicious with massive portions. I had the ensalada de Mexico and tagliatelle with huitlacoche... delicious!!! If I weren't typing on my phone, I'd was lyrical.
google avatar

Yelp
We are assuming that this is the restaurant inside Casa las Tortugas! We had our final evening meal here, and we saved our best meal for last. Our meal consisted of two starters (a brioche bun stuffed with mushrooms and smothered in a Parmesan crema, and a scallop and shrimp special), two entrees (chorizo and leek ravioli with three generously portioned steak medallions, and a tagliatelle with huitlacoche), and a shared lemon tart desert. This with 4 cocktails came it at about 90.00 USD including a tip. In the USA a meal of this quality would cost significantly more. Every bite was wonderful....every single bite. My spouse and I are foodies , I suppose, and we were knocked out by the entire experience. Other folks talk about various misgivings in their reviews, and I can't speak to them, but our experience was stellar on all counts.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
We chose this place for dinner because it had several vegetarian options for both appetizers and main courses. It's certainly one of the fancier spots on Isla Holbox, with prices to match. We LOVED the fresh hot bread with dipping oil, pastas, and grilled catch of the day. Service was friendly and relatively attentive.

Yelp
Lobster ceviche was great, the beet salad was really good as well! The Green Fizz drink was one of our favorite drinks on the trip !!!

Yelp
Gorgeous scenic view. The restaurant is right on the beach with no walls on the beach side. The building is a 2 story palapa and at breakfast you dine on the bottom floor. Its got a cute vintagey rustic vibe. Service is good. Make sure and pay attention because they will add a steep service charge on. The juice was quite good and they have lots of mixed juice options, but 80 pesos is crazy expensive when most of the time jugos/licuados cost me around 30 pesos or so. Quite a difference. Even the other juices I got on Holbox cost me AT MOST 40 pesos. Anyhoo, the bread basket that you receive gratis is quite good and so is the homemade jam you can smother on said bread. The chilaquiles (corn tortillas fried with meat and smothered in sauce) were tasty, but I had a better version the morning before at another restaurant right on the plaza (it's got a stack of books painted on the outside of it). You can pick between red or green sauce. Make sure to ask for hot pepper sauce is you want it spicy.

Yelp
Had some apps, desserts and drinks here on our day in Holbox. Absolutely love the setting. Outside on the softest white sand in its peaceful beauty. The hubs had the crepes that were crispy and yummy. We had the tacos which were also very memorable!! I could not stop taking pics bc the setting was just so amazing. To get that location and food is a perfect pair! I cannot say enough about this place. We love it!

John M.

Yelp
We had an amazing lunch at this beautiful beachside hotel. The staff was delightful and the food delicious. This is the loveliest spot we found on a beach with many lovely spots. The next time we visit Holbox we are staying here for sure!

Yelp
We ate lunch here, it's also a trendy beach club. I love the juices they have, very refreshing! I also really like the atmosphere.

Yelp
Eccept an amazing service, the food was absolutely fabulously delicious! Starting from sandwiches, pasta, burgers and salads, everything we ordered was just great!

Yelp
We liked Mandarina so much, we ate there about five or six times after we discovered it. The food is fresh, tasty, and healthy. It's California-fresh: e.g. shrimp and mango tacos wrapped in plantain tortillas; flavor-packed salad of roasted tomato, roasted red onion, lettuces, Mexican cheese, avocado, pecans, pepitas, and sesame seeds. The juice combos are delicious and performance-driven (watermelon and cucumber after sun, and other anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant combos). The pastas are cooked al dente. They claim the produce is grown locally and organically. If Mandarina were in Mexico City, it would be 4 stars, which is still good. I had an Asian-style fish once that was a little salty and the salads could go lighter on the vinaigrette (which they gladly accommodate). The setting is unbelievably gorgeous! The staff is pleasant and hospitable. I can see why some people may complain about the prices. It's expensive by Mexican/Holbox standards. It's more expensive than a chain American restaurant cooking out of cans. But for this quality of ingredients and cooking, the unbelievable setting, treating your body and taste buds well, and peace of mind knowing we weren't going to get sick, it was worth the cost. Salud!
