Great stay at Manena Hostel! I stayed at Manena Hostel and had a really good experience. The place was very clean and well-kept—especially appreciated how they dedicate time between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM for cleaning, which keeps everything fresh. The rooms had fans, which helped a lot in the summer heat. Just note: the lockers need a small padlock, but you can easily get one at reception with a €5 deposit. The location is excellent—right in the heart of Genoa’s city center, and you can walk to many attractions. I even walked to the beach (about 1 hr 15 mins), though public transport can get you there in under 30 minutes. Staff were great—especially the young cute Italian girl at reception, who was very helpful with directions and local tips, and a Polish volunteer who helped out around the hostel. Has a nice kitchen to cook food as well. Overall, a clean, friendly, and well-located hostel that I’d definitely recommend.

Hostel had a great location and was easy to get around the old town. Super close to great restaurants, bars and cafes. The owners were super friendly and accommodating and gave great recommendations and advice on how to get around if you wanted to do any day trips out of Genoa. The only vice this hostel had was one of the volunteers living there who I had an uncomfortable interaction with. I briefly sat on my friend’s bed in the morning so we could plan our day. The volunteer approached us and told me I shouldn’t be sharing a bed with my friend and that you pay for a single bed. I found this interaction intrusive and inappropriate. After telling her we were just planning our day, she then began to complain about the noise level. I was surprised by this, as it was well past quiet hours, and I was whispering while getting ready for the day. While I completely understand the importance of maintaining a respectful environment for all guests, I found the volunteer’s approach to be unnecessarily stern and uncomfortable, particularly as this was my first morning in the hostel. Volunteers should be there to help create a positive experience for guests, not to police or shame them for behaviour that clearly isn't disruptive or against the rules. I would recommend if you’re looking for a more social hostel to choose somewhere else.

I didn’t stay at the hostel but was able to “reserve” a spot on Spyros’ free walking tour the same morning thru the phone. Having done many already, this was definitely one of the best - very comprehensive, knew many interesting details of Genova’s history and showed us some beautiful hidden spots, courtyards, churches, viewpoints and coffee & local food -thx again! :)

Great hostel, clean for the most part, lovely people and good facilities. The one thing I would warn is that the hostel is on the edge of a very sketchy area that isn’t safe for solo female travelers to walk down at night alone. The location is good because it’s close to many restaurants, close to nice shops and is a quick walk to the train station. However I found it pretty unsafe walking back at night until I realized another area that was on the other side of the hotel that was much safer. Genoa is a port city so it is known to be sketchy but the neighborhood that borders Manena Hostel is pretty unsafe at night, especially for female solo travelers.

It has a very good location yet the hostel does feel quite improvised, you don’t have complete privacy in your bed since curtains are only on one side, ac is not a thing but they have floor fans but they are quite dirty … bathrooms are ok but maybe not enough for the amount of people there . Kitchen is ok and break fast is ok too. Staff are nice. Bedrooms are ok… overall the location near the city center is what makes it worth it.

Even though I didn’t wanna waste my time to write about this, I have to.||NO SECURITY CAMERAS!||Not good Vibe/Atmosphere||Age Limit advertised is FALSE (they welcome also people in their 60’s. Some old men where already checked in, and others in their 60’s arrived right before I checked out).||There were also foreigners who don’t look like tourists.||The location is good.||The GM and his business partners manage also other hostels in Genova, including Victoria House e Home Genoa Hostel.||||THE GM (Manuel) harassed me. I made the reservation in the morning, trough booking.com I Asked “Please” and “IF” I could be placed in a decent dorm; but I didn’t demand anything. That didn’t sit well with the GM who CALLED ME ON MY PHONE, but I couldn’t pick up, and he texted me on whatsapp, telling me to call him (which I didn’t, cause I didn’t want to be bothered). He didn’t want to leave proofs of his wrongdoing, on booking.com, nor on whatsap. This proves that he knew he was wrong. ||I checked in at night. I didn’t complain about anything. Right after check out time, while I was on my laptop, minding my own on the couch, he came and started talking rubbish.||He invited me to book with other hostels, such as Ostello Bello. He and his colleague, teammed up to argue against me, when I was minding my own business and I hadn’t brought up any complaint. These 2 don’t understand the difference between flexibility/Tolerance (needed in a dorm) vs not having any standards.||They started from something that (through booking.com) I had simply asked “if possible”, but they quickly moved onto Things that I Never Said/Asked or I ever Even Thought.||It was a very difficult conversation. 2 against 1, at “their home”, against me. He’s tone was wrong.|| ||Not only I hadn’t complained about anything, customer service isn’t being (fake) nice when they hand you the keys; but it’s about how they solve problems or fulfill your requests. He’s clueless.||If you are bothered by extremely loud snoring and bad smell, although it’s obvious that you fell that way, don’t ask to be put in a decent dorm. Or you can book in other hostels, like the GM told me.

When we arrived the staff were so friendly and chatty! Check in was smooth but we didn’t get a lot of information. We weren’t given any keys at all which was strange. The door to the room could be open by anyone staying at the hostel. The lockers were quite big and were locked with a padlock which the hostel could provide if you didn’t have one. The beds were comfy and had a light but you didn’t get a plug for each bed and needed to share an extension cord with the person on the bottom bunk. There was a table also to put your belongings. Also only the bottom bunk got curtains for privacy which was quite inconvenient. The toilets were good and had a shower in them also. The kitchen was alright. The hostel provided free breakfast from 8-10am which was really good! One thing that was very inconvenient was they shut the hostel from 11-1:30pm for cleaning. So we weren’t allowed in the toilets or in our room for nearly 3 hours. We were only allowed in the common room which caused our day to come to a halt as we just needed to jump into the room to get some stuff and then go out. When we went back into the room it didn’t seem clean as there were marks on the floor and it looked the same as it did when we left it. The staff stayed in the dorm room with you which was also odd. We missed check out because we got our dates mixed up and the staff were so nice about it and let us leave our bags to get later on also which was great! The location was great as it was near everything and not a far walk from the train station. Overall, I wouldn’t go back but would recommend to others for the staff and the location.
