Mangata Bistro & Bar

3.5 stars for the Kangaroo loin. It was good and a lot nicer than I was expecting. The shave that comes with it is really nice. Wish there was a bigger size for the price point. I think the restaurant could use 1 or 2 more employees to help manage the lunch time rush of people. Not enough staff to go around..

Some dishes better than others. Would highly recommend the squid appetizer and the iced tea. We tried wallaby for the first time, not sure if it was done well vs personal tastes but it was okay. The fish was cooked well, but nothing spectacular. Overall pleasantly surprised by the food given we are in the middle of a desert.

Great local wine selection to go nicely with the fantastic quality food. We had the ribs and the pasta and both were delicious. The real stand out was the service though. Every staff member we interacted with was so kind, attentive and knowledgeable. A real treat to dine here especially for a reasonable price.

We had lunch at this restaurant today, which was within walking distance from our hotel accommodation at Sails in the Desert 🏜. The ambience and modern Australiana decor were relaxing and inviting. While there are positive things I enjoyed here, such as the menu , the food, and ambience, we found the food service a little bit of a letdown left much to be desired. We arrived here at 11:20 am, got ushered to our table. Our food order was taken less than 10 minutes after we got to our seats. We ordered salt and pepper squid, peccorino chips, and garlic herb bread. Pretty basic dish to prepare. However, that was not the case . All the customers that arrived 15-20 minutes later when we arrived had their food served . In our case, it was the opposite. I caught the attention of the same waiter who took down our orders and raised my concerns regarding the long wait time over 45 minutes . I believed that they got the orders all mixed up. The waiter never came back. Instead, the restaurant manager came over to our table and apologised for the delay. The restaurant manager was kind enough to offer us a complimentary drink . Shortly thereafter, the managers intervention, our orders finally arrived The food here is absolutely amazing 💯💯💯. I also appreciated the generous portion size. We loved everything we ordered. We also tried the mocktail- Australian native iced tea and the strawberry mixture. They were both refreshing and unique in taste. This restaurant has got a lot to offer if they could improve their food service delivery. Update: Wr decided to return here for lunch to give it another chance . We ordered nearly the same except the squid I ordered the chicken wings. This time around , our meals came out promptly. The chicken wings were finger licking good. Certainly something I will eat again.

Pretty great opening time available for dining upto 9pm. The pork ribs was very very nice, meat was tender and doesn’t stick to the bone. Sauce is generous and has a punch to it. The pork ribs is way better than what you get in Hurricanes Sydney. Kangaroo Kebab is amazing and tender, could taste the charring on the outside just nice. Steak is slightly over-done but still pretty nicely presented and I like the way the potato is done. Definitely not to be missed when coming to Ayers Rock.

We stayed at the Desert Gardens Hotel & had the pleasure of having breakfast here. Loved my skim cap. The daily breakfast buffet was standard offering but the staff were friendly. Loved the pastries. We got to dine one night & loved my Uluru afterglow cocktail 🥰 I’m kicking myself for not taking pics of the salt & pepper squid, mangata chicken wings & the porterhouse steak. We enjoyed them so much.

The pork ribs was very tasty and succulent. The sweet potato chips that came with the spare ribs were excellent. Deliciously crispy. The 250gm porterhouse was simple with broccolini on the side accompanied with a delicious sauce. Pumpkin with walnuts and feta cheese was ok. I think if the pumpkin was cut into smaller pieces you would be able to appreciate the dressing on it better. The bistro is very popular and we were lucky to get a table for walk-ins at 6.45pm. Staff were very friendly and while you could see they were kept on their feet all over the place, they maintained their cheery friendly dispositions.

Best food you can get in Uluru and most friendly and kind staff ever! We’ve stayed 3 nights at Desert Gardens Hotel, which was great value for money and we tried open buffet breakfast, and also lunch and dinner at Mangata Bistro and were very pleased with the quality of the food. Kids menu is very reasonably priced and includes fries or steamed vegetables and juice/soft drink. Ambience and music is superb. High recommend!
