Mangawhai Backpackers

Staying here for a week and absolutely love it. A small boutique lodge with 12 beds, very clean and sunny, lovely clientele and host. We walked to Mangawhai Beach this morning which is absolutely stunning! A short walk to the estuary, and a 30minute walk to the beach. Great coffee and shops 800m away.

Absolute best hostel I’ve ever stayed in. It felt like home right from the beginning. It’s so cozy, with the fireplace and comfy couches. The beds were comfortable, and the shower was hot with good pressure. We were only stopping in for one night but did not want to leave and stayed for one more. Honestly we could have moved in. Dawn and her partner gave us great recommendations for restaurants and things to see. She was so warm and welcoming. Highly recommend!!!

Caught in heavy rain while hiking north and through Mangawhai i stopped in late and was welcomed in like an old friend. Very homely atmosphere. Dawn is a lovely woman. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area. Hot shower, comfortable bed, laundry facilities, shared cooking area with all the necessities and a nice deck with plenty of space to chill out and rest the feet.

My stay at Mangawhai Backpackers was incredible. The hostel was very clean and probably one of the coziest places I have stayed. The bed where comfortable the company was great and Dawn was an excellent host. We really needed to recharge and get back on the road. I wish we could've stayed longer.

Nice, cozy place to stay in Mangawhai heads. Short drive to the main beach and start of the cliff top walking track. My stay was quiet, short and sweet. The only other guests were those who are living here long term. Dawn the owner is friendly and the place was clean, with a very laid back vibe. I had the 4 bed dorm to myself and had some good sleeps. Good place to chill and relax or get out to the beach or do some walks. Would stay again when passing through Mangawhai!

Absolutely Awesome place to stay. Dawn the owner is Fabulous and her home is very inviting and central to the mangawai township, the Room we had was perfect and the bed was better than my own. If you are looking for lodgings with a people friendly environment Dawn @ Mangawai Backpackers should be your first choice, we will be staying AGAIN👍

Great place right down the road from the center and the beach! Avalon was the one who greeted us to a nice and comfortable place. Felt very welcome and cozy. Plus, they have a fireplace to keep warm(they also have a heater).
