Mangga at the Blue Mansion

A shining yet hidden gem in the compound of Cheong Fatt Tze mansion, this casual dining cafe serves up not only Malaysian and Western cuisines cooked to perfection and plated meticulously, they also bring genuine level of hospitality and dedication shown by all the staff members. There are options of indoor (air-conditioned) and outdoor seatings. The very name "Mangga" is inspired by the mango tree standing proud as the centrepiece of this establishment. Mangga means mango in Malay language. Some may say that the food and beverage prices are on rather higher end, but trust me, it's totally worth paying. You'd enter with a smile and leave with a broader one. Even the security guard on duty at the gate is very kind and helpful!

Good music in the evenings, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The Wild Magnolias were playing soft and Jazz muisc on Friday. They made the popular songs their own. The 3 person band had very good voices. They have an extensive menu for desserts, appetizers, and main courses. The vegetarian options are limited, 2 appetizers and 1 main rice dish. The drinks were ok, I would not recommend the Cosmopolitan. The service is good and great atmosphere, can be romantic with all the lights.

I stopped by for a quick lunch after visiting Cheong Fatt Tze and ordered the spaghetti aglio olio. Honestly, one of the best I’ve ever had! It’s more of a fusion style with bold spices, which I really enjoyed. Because I couldn’t stop thinking about their pasta, I came back another day and tried the grilled chicken, which was quite disappointing. It was bland and didn’t meet my expectations at all. Thankfully, they had live jazz that day, and the music, paired with the breezy afternoon vibes, made the visit worthwhile. Would I return? Definitely, for the live jazz and that unforgettable aglio olio :) Will I try their other menus? Maybe not without recommendations!

Food sucks. 38 bucks for nasi lemak and the 3/4 bowl of rice given is hard. Such a shame such low quality food had to exist in Penang. Very badly done for exorbitant price. Benchmark oriental kopi nasi lemak (similar price) i give oriental kopi 9.5/10. This one i give 2 marks. The ambience is perfect though.

Yummy dessert & not over sweet, we had the Tiramisu & Strawberry shortcake. Efficient & friendly service, wonderful jazzy garden atmosphere. A very talented jazz band & singer in the background. Loved it. Nice place to chill & conversations with friends.

Not great food, service or music! Salad was passable (probaby the worst dish) the cauliflower was comparatively the best dish, the prawns were also meh but unfortunately served with stale bread and the nasi lemak did not have a tasty coconut rice. We were there to listen to the jazz band (Spunk Unit) but unfortunately they too fell short!
