The Best Art in Santa Fe, According to a Local

"Manitou Galleries carries an array of contemporary artists from lots of different classifications. I see the names of people I know from the Santa Fe Indian Market there over and over, whether I'm looking at sculpture, 2D, or jewelry." - Ashley M. Biggers

Incredible southwestern art and jewelry! The employees were so friendly and welcoming. Two floors filled with stunning pieces, accompanied by a playlist of good music. By far, one of the most beautiful galleries I have ever visited, they sell art from around 50 different artists!

Edit Super responsive staff and the nicest gallery I have been in in a while. Why can't I sit on the bench, if you put a bench there I should be able to sit on it. What if an old lady walked by and she needed to sit? What is she going to do? Sit on the floor with the rocks? No no she's not. She's going to sit on your bench. Oh yeah you don't like that. Well too bad. Why would you put a bench just put it inside please please please 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I can't comprehend how dumb this is.

Manitou has always been our favorite Gallery in Santa Fe at the Plaza. We heard that it had new owners and were concerned that they would change it, not for the better. Well we were there today and it is better than ever! Great job in displaying the art and jewelry; which is more abundant than ever. So good to see Andrea still there, who has always been so helpful and knowledgeable!

Plan to spend some time here. Wonderful artwork, and absolutely wonderful vintage jewelry. Oh my gosh, the jewelry! Sales people were very helpful and welcoming. I learned a lot in the time I spent here.

I had a wonderful experience at the Manitou Gallery with my husband and two sisters. This was the first gallery we browsed in Santa Fe and even though it was clear we didn't intend on purchasing any art, Scott was very friendly towards us and provided us with tons of information! I am a hobby artist myself so I appreciated the time he spent telling us about the different artists and their processes.

Yelp
Manitou gallery is located near the Santa Fe Plaza. Many large scale bronze sculptures are housed in the space. There are two floors of art to see. Staff are friendly and helpful. Most of the art reflects a Western or Native American style. Metered parking right outside, Mind your time as the area is patrolled quite often. There are also parking lots within walking distance of the galleries.

Yelp
Thank you Cheyo for all of the help while I was in your gallery. The selections were amazing. Stunning jewelry at a great value.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning art and very friendly service from Scott, their consultant. Also check out their gallery on Canyon Road, Legacy Gallery. Has some of the most stunning art I've ever seen. Beautiful jewelry offered as well.

Yelp
Megan was awesome, we were in Santa Fe for my husband's birthday as he found a ring that he loves! from Nick CunninghThis gallery has amazing art and jewelry- can't wait to come back!

Larry C.

Yelp
Very friendly and customer oriented. I was looking at rings in the lower end price range, but they treated me like a valued customer. They had a great selection of silver turquoise rings, which was what I was interested in. No pressure and they gave me a lot of information on the rings I was considering. I love this gallery.

Yelp
Wow. Wow. Wow. If you go see any gallery in Santa Fe...check out William Siegal Gallery and this place. That's it. The paintings here were truly UNBELIEVABLE. I couldn't stop staring at them thinking that some of them just HAD to be photographs they were so realistic and amazing. It's like the light was shining out from behind each of these paintings. My favorite was Roger Hayden Johnson. Not only was the light shining out of his paintings...it appeared as though there was a window behind me and the sun was shining on the painting. Except when you'd turn around you wouldn't see a window or the sun. Just amazing. I could have spent hours here. I especially loved the Island summer painting and the white canoe. Too bad they were all so pricey ($1750 ish). Also, Kim Beesley just floored me. He makes these wooden bowls made out of all sorts of tiny little pieces of wood and turquoise and just cuts them PERFECT as he builds the vases up from the bottom. I don't know how he does it. You look on the inside and the outside and it's like all the pieces are magically glued together and curved just perfectly. Does he put them together and them mold them? No...does it as he goes. I'm baffled. He apparently has a background in aerospace engineering and the spaces between his pieces of wood are less than a human hair (I got that little piece of information from someone who worked in the gallery). Also, take your cell phone and dial into the main phone number, press the artist's name and hear the artist him/herself talk to you about how they became an artist, what inspired them, the journey of their lives and their art (that you are looking at). Really freaking cool. They told me that they were the first in the country to do something like this. Well, I think everyone else should follow suit!

Yelp
Beautiful gallery with gorgeous jewelry. Went in looking for a gift and Donna was so helpful. I found the perfect vintage piece and they were so lovely to work with.

Yelp
To stand out from the crowd in the Santa Fe art market takes something special, and Manitou achieves the impossible. An excellent collection including notably fine pieces by Camille Engel and Teresa Elliott, and impeccable service combine to make a very satisfying art-splurge experience. Highly recommended.

Yelp
These guys have one of the most outstanding collection of incredible artists of all the galleries we visited. There are crazy detailed and colorful paintings, along with sculptures that are incredibly detailed. Kim wiggins and Roger Hayden Johsnon were some of my favorites of this gallery's current showings. However, that's not what truly made me love this place. (although that's certainly enough) No, they are also apparently the first gallery in the country to provide cellphone audio tours of most of their artists. Of all the galleries we visited in our trip to Santa Fe, this is the one I'd be most disappointed for having missed, had we missed it.

Yelp
Great Gallery in Santa Fe that manages to keep consistent, high quality art and jewelry. The sales folk are very nice, and very knowledgeable about their artists. Check out the Jim Eppler Bronze Ravens, a favorite of mine!

Yelp
Manitou is a must-see Santa Fe gallery. My favorite artist there is Ethelinda--her giant galloping horses are stunning. I love the Eppler raven sculptures also. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly!

Yelp
Purchased two coffees in the lovely courtyard belonging to the gallery. Strolled thru the gallery on advice of the barista. Came back thru the store to enter the courtyard for another coffee and was chased in the store by a man who stopped short as I approached the coffee kiosk. Felt odd but didn't think much about it. Prior to departing Santa Fe came thru said courtyard to use the lavatory at back of store. Upon exiting I was once again accosted; this time by a large woman with bright pink lips screeching in a foreign accent, "this is NOT a public restroom" Yipes! Enter courtyard and use facilities at your own risk. As for the "art" in gallery it's a pass. Ps. I actually cleaned the bathroom and carefully arranged the toilet paper strewn on the floor; come to think of it that strewn TP was much more a work of art that anything hanging in the alleged gallery.

Yelp
Fabulous and unusual collection of quality jewelry. Wonderful no pressure service. I even had a problem with a piece I bought and it was resolved immediately.
