Maniumpathy, Colombo, Sri Lanka - Explore & Book

"Small, chic Maniumpathy is the antithesis of a city hotel yet is located right in the heart of Colombo's trendy Colombo 7 district. Exceptionally private, oozing heritage style and promising personalised service, this exquisite 19th-century former home of a doctor from Jaffna is one of the island’s best-preserved ancestral abodes. Liberally adorned with antiques, artefacts, old family photographs and prints that evoke the past, rooms are named after family matriarchs, and radiate out from a leafy garden courtyard shaded by a yellow blossoming cassia tree. Smiling butlers serve chilled freshly pressed juices and fusion meals on a pretty veranda overlooking the sun-kissed pool. Indoors you’ll find an air-conditioned cigar room, an open-plan hallway/lounge and a formal dining table for 16. The hotel is a delightful first or last stop on a busy touring itinerary, and just a few minutes from shops, art galleries, cafés and restaurants. Couples and small groups curious about Colombo will find this an inner-city oasis. Highs The extremely welcoming staff are experts in making you feel at homeWe loved the carefully curated details – photographs, prints, claw-footed bathtubs, heritage antiques, parquet floorsThe food is delicious, with plenty of light, healthy optionsA real inner-city sanctuary – the perfect respite from buzzy ColomboAll 7 rooms are stylish and luxurious, and a couple have hidden courtyards for additional privacy Lows Despite being set back from the main road, you're in the city centre so daytime traffic noise and sirens are inevitableYou might hear your fellow guests dining on the veranda if you’re staying in a ground-floor room and opt to sleep earlyNo air conditioning in the spa treatment roomThe pool is small, though adequateNo children under 7" - Emma Boyle

Maniumpathy (Colombo, Sri Lanka) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Sri Lankan hotels are among our favorites, from the modernist beach cottages to the tea plantations of the interior. Maniumpathy, however, is something a little bit different — and a classic, at the same time. This stately home, right in the heart of one of Colombo’s most desirable neighborhoods, has belonged for five generations to a family from Jaffna, in the island’s north, and its eight suites are named for the women of the family, from Vasanthi and Anithra to Annapuranie, the 19th-century matriarch whose name graces the ground-floor master suite." - Tablet Hotels

A Review of Maniumpathy Hotel | Hotels Above Par

"Set in a stately Colombo mansion passed down five generations of the Hallock family, this intimate five-star boutique hotel blends Ceylonese history with colonial elegance. Converted from a family home, it offers just eight individually designed suites—each named for a female Hallock relative—and is organized around a tranquil central courtyard with a petite freshwater pool and lush tropical foliage. Rooms pair antique furniture and heritage hues with modern comforts, featuring roll-top bathtubs, four-poster beds and manicured lawns; the Master Suite Annapuranie is especially dramatic with an ebony four-poster draped in crimson, a private garden and a period-style roll-top bath, the Chrysantie Suite is a cozy split-level with a mezzanine queen bed, and the Vasanthi and Anithra suites provide king beds and secluded secret gardens. Onsite dining at the Nandi restaurant ranges from casual lunches—colorful salads, Sri Lankan hoppers and sandwiches like a fish bap with mushy peas—to refined evening dishes such as tamarind soup, cashew-crusted mullet and mango-topped pavlova. Amenities include fast Wi-Fi, room service, daily housekeeping, a minibar and a spa, and the property can arrange local experiences like guided walks through Pettah Market; it sits close to the National Museum, Galle Face Green and other Colombo attractions and is about a 40-minute drive from Bandaranaike International Airport. Rates start around $270/night."

I had a wonderful experience here. The food was absolutely delicious, and the ambience and overall environment were just as impressive. Their crabs, eggs Benedict waffle, and chicken oats kanji are a must try, each dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The lodging facilities were also excellent, making the stay comfortable and enjoyable. Having stayed at several hotels in Colombo, I can honestly say this place truly stands out from the rest. Highly recommended!

We came for lunch as a large group. We all enjoyed a traditional Tamil Lunch and it was a great experience. The setting of the hotel and its features are beautiful and make it a serene place to enjoy a meal. The food was delicious, all elements explained and all rich in flavour and expertly prepared. To eat such a beautiful meal in such a nice setting was a great experience that I would rec comment. The service received was also a very high standard.

An outstandingly well run and caring place. A family home converted into a boutique hotel with gorgeous rooms, antique furnishings, delectable shared spaces including a calming courtyard with pool. The staff are exceptionally professional; I couldn’t fault my stay.

Maniumpathy is one of the most beautiful boutique hotels in Colombo, however we didn't visit to stay. We visited on two occasions: once for afternoon high tea with my sister, mum and a friend and a second time to host lunch for close family friends.||The high tea needs to be pre-ordered so we were glad we called earlier to make a booking. If you're wondering how many to order, 1 platter is ample for 2 people.|The staff are very attentive and offered lovely refreshments on arrival. We selected a passionfruit beverage which was delicious. ||There is also a tea menu and the Maniumpathy blend is delicious and my favourite.||The high tea platter comes complete with hot and cold canapes featuring puff pastries and cucumber sandwiches. There is also a selection of cakes and of course, light and fluffy scones with cream and jam. ||It was a wonderful experience to be enjoyed outside on the terrace overlooking the grounds and pool with a cool breeze.||Definitely recommended for all high tea enthusiasts.||Our lunch experience was equally enjoyable and we made a booking for the Jaffna thali lunch. We were not disappointed. The Jaffna thali comes with an array of delicious dishes including a choice of chicken, mutton, crab or mustard fish as well as an array of vegetables and rasam. ||On of our guests ordered the crab and she enjoyed every last claw and leg and kept apologising for taking so long to eat but she was enjoying her crab SO VERY MUCH!||The thali also comes complete with dessert so you don't need to worry about wondering what to have. A delicious local treat ends the meal.||We truly enjoyed our culinary experiences at Maniumpathy and we will definitly be back. It's the perfect location and surrounding for a stylish and very elegant dining experience.||The staff are very professional and attentive, offering us their suggestions. ||Highly recommended for an afternoon treat or a great lunch or dinner venue.

I recently visited this place and absolutely loved it! The mutton curry was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection and the crab cake was a real standout. The atmosphere is calm and quiet with a lovely vintage touch that makes the dining experience even better. The staff were warm, friendly and genuinely attentive. Definitely a spot I’d recommend to anyone who appreciates authentic Jaffna-style food.

We recently stayed at this lovely boutique hotel and was completely blown away by the warmth and kindness of the staff. From the moment we arrived, the manager and the entire team went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. ||The hotel itself was cozy and beautifully decorated, with attention to detail in every corner. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had a charming, ||What stood out the most, however, was the genuine hospitality. If you’re looking for a place with fantastic service, a friendly atmosphere, and a homely vibe, we couldn’t recommend this hotel enough! ||Love from Denmark - family of 4
