Manjar do Douro

Had a lovely lunch here after enjoying the descent from the steps. The cod and desserts were delicious and the Douro white wine was perfect with it. Our server was also excellent- very helpful with the menu (we do not speak Portuguese) and funny. Highly recommend.

As traditional it gets! Lucky to have got a table at 1230 on a Sunday ! Within 20 min the whole place is full with the locals and kids! Staff service good not rude at all ! The obligatory appetisers are very good for 5 euros . Wine was so so but ok for a quick lunch before climbing up the 686 steps

This place tried to scam us, but semi failed. Read on! But as they say… if you haven’t been scammed, you haven’t been on holiday. See photo for proof! Cue an English and a Chinese guy turning up, the restaurant hand us a menu in English. The prices seemed a little high for Portugal, so I asked for the menu in Portuguese. No surprise, there was an alternative menu in Portuguese (nothing that google photo translate couldn’t handle!). Although not identical menus, there are identical items with significantly higher prices on the English menu. The restaurant stated that some items in Portuguese couldn’t be translated to English…. Then decided they had given us the evening menu. Obviously there was no lunchtime English menu available! Also, the restaurant gave us the famous tapas. Although nice, whilst eating I read the reviews about how much this place likes to charge per person for this unannounced pleasure. Once the restaurant staff knew we had clocked the scam, they only charged us 5EUR each for the tapas, however other people have been charged up to 10EUR for the tapas. A real shame as the food was nice, but left a sour taste having attempted to scam us. Hesitantly they let me take a photo of the menus at the end for this review 😀

This restaurant was ok. The meat was a bit too tough, but the vegetables and potatoes were cooked well. The portions are pretty big as well! I recommend getting the roasted goat.

The shellfish rice is extraordinary! Love it and the staff are kind. I highly recommend it👍🏻

The food and the service is very good, but be aware there seems to be a tourist menu at higher prices, more importantly check the bill. They tried to charge us for twice as menu bottles of water.
