Manly Bunkhouse

The bunkhouse is probably the best hostel I ever stayed at. I’ve been there two times now, each time for 1-2 months. It is the perfect hostel especially for longer stays. Compared to the other hostels in that area it is a lot more calm and chill and has a lot of long term guests. The vibe in the hostel is like a big family and it’s pretty easy to make good friends there especially as a solo traveler. The rooms are nothing special but cleaned regularly and with their own bathroom and shower. The kitchen has basically everything you would need, gas stove, big oven, toaster and microwave, etc. The staff is also really nice and helpful, especially Alex, she is the best :) I can only recommend to stay here if u come to Sydney, especially if u want to enjoy the beach and surf!

Amazing Hostel! Unbelievable location just down the street from Manly town. Good prices, amazing community feel, and top notch staff! Highly recommend for those staying for a few days or longer.

Manly Bunkhouse, thankyou. My stay was intended for 3 days which turned into 3 months and I have been back for short visits since. The family team, facilities and location make the Bunkhouse a perfect place to stay whilst in Manly. So helpful with accommodating you, seeking employment and making you feel at home. I have recommended Bunkhouse to many people on my travels and will continue to. Book that stay, you’ll meet great people and share experiences you won’t forget.

Potentially good but has lots of long-term stayers and permanents who forget they are only guests and not the owners. They can be territorial, cliquey and be inconsiderate of travelling, temporary guests. It is more a lodging house and workers' hostel than a traveler's hostel. Noise is the main issue and there is no proactive, onsite, night-manager to supervise late nights. Also needs a no alcohol policy. The quietest backpackers in Australia have both a night manager and a no-booze policy. Location is ok but about 2kms from the Manly Ferry, Bus Station and CBD. Beach is about 2 blocks away. Bus stop nearby. The two rival backpackers are right in the CBD. Staff are friendly and amiable, but this place need a night manager here to allow others to have a restful sleep. Backyard is good but there is a kids play school next door which can get rather noisy. A very well-equipped kitchen but it is small with limited bench space and often crowded with all the permanents. The dining room has only room for about 8 diners. The place has over 20 rooms- some 4-bed dorms and some twins and doubles. So, at peak there can be at least lots of people here and very little place to congregate in the winter. I would suggest booking for one night initially to see if it suits then book direct over the counter which is cheaper than online. After staying at many backpackers, I would rate this place a 7/10

Best hostel I’ve ever stayed at, beautiful rooms and very accomodating staff. Even left my license there and they were nice enough to send it off to me free of charge. Can’t recommend this place enough,

I stayed at this hostel for about a month and it was great. The staff were accommodating, the rooms were comfortable, all areas were cleaned daily and everybody there was very friendly. If you want to stay in Manly I would recommend.

As we have never stayed in a hostel type of accommodation we knew we were gong to have our own bathroom before we were pleasantly surprised to have a room with a television, tea making facilities and china & cutlery. The weather was extremely hot and to have a modern fan was also a bonus. The building was old so the facilities were adequate - the bed was firm, the linen was rather thin but the towels were newish. Have had worse towels in a motel.

i lived in the manly bunkhouse from dec 2023 to may 2025 and i honestly couldn’t recommend it more! i was staying in room 6, which is a bright and spacious room with 1.5 bathrooms shared with 5 other girls as it’s a dorm that sleeps 6. the owners are amazing and it feels like you’re living in a big family. mara even hosted soup nights sometimes:) the backyard is super nice as well. rooms were cleaned regularly and whenever help with something is needed it’s provided asap! the hostel being a 5 min walk from the beach is genuinely amazing as well. it’s located well within reach of public transportation (bus&ferry). the rooms are quiet at night, but if you want to socialize there’s always someone around. there’s no washing machines, but a washing salon is just a 7 min walk away so that’s not a problem. absolutely loved it!
