On the Grid : Mann Highland Theatre

"The Mann Highland Theatre is quite possibly the coolest and most cosmic place to visit in all of Saint Paul. With original fixtures, art deco-inspired designs, and galactic carpet, the theatre resembles a midcentury science fiction universe -- technicolored eye candy! In addition to the great ambiance, the theatre has two screens showing new releases and special premiers. This family-owned theatre is located in the heart of Highland Park, and you can see the marque and beautifully lit sign from all directions. The theatre is one of the best stops in Saint Paul for entertainment and cheap date nights ($5 Tuesday movies)." - Jenny Bookler

My Grandson and I went to see Sonic 3 Awesome movie I like this theater I wanted popcorn and drink but they had a kid meal deal which would add some snack with the deal for 9$ and some change, well we got the drink and pop corn so I stand there waiting for the snack they asked me what I am waiting for cause they no explanation about not having the snack so I informed them about the snack try explain and so I say can he get something else to substitute the missing snack they tell me they can not but why would you charge me for the deal and then not tell me and was rude and was mad when I asked for my money back and I didn't want the deal I felt so bad

It was ok but nothing like the huge theatres. My grandchildren are young so no big deal to them

The visit was splendid! How good to see a dandy picture while eating freshly baked popcorn and drinking Coke products? Gotta admit that I really like regular theater seats instead of those annoying recliners! Got my soda glass refilled on my way out, too!

I love going to movies here! 4 stars for the lack of leg room for tall people like myself -- otherwise a great experience during the times I've been here.

Good service but I would not recommend going here if you care about movie picture quality. We sat in Theatre 2 and noticed 3-4 vertical lines on the screen the entire movie (both during the preview trailers and the movie itself). This appeared to be not from the projector but from the screen itself. These lines were noticeable the entire show and especially showed during dark and light scenes. I really want to support local businesses and I truly want this theatre to be my go to theatre. However, the low picture quality detracted my experience and it would be very hard for me to justify going here again. A primary goal of any theatre should be ensuring the highest quality picture, that is why one would go to a movie theatre and not just watch it a TV. But with the lines on the screen, I feel I would have been better off watching the movie on my TV. Are these lines a permanent issue? Is this something the theatre is aware of?

This is a nice neighborhood theater with good service in a good location, but it has two fatal flaws. The theater (upstairs, if that makes a difference) was FREEZING COLD, and the seats seem to have come from the Spanish Inquisition. There is leg room only for those under 4-feet tall.

Very reasonably priced and lovely staff. Just a super cute place. But I have several complaints about the theaters themselves: they don't do great with temperature control in the summer (don't bother coming here on hot days to cool off), the sound could be a little louder - I've definitely missed dialogue. Finally, the seats in the upper theater are crammed together. I'm 5'6" and my knees were hitting the seat in front of me. I've had more leg room on airplanes

Very disappointing experience here. The theater itself is very nice. Old school (in a good way), cheap enough tickets, comfy seats,... Unfortunately, during our particular movie, a group of three middle school or so aged kids were on their phones, shouting, literally getting up and sitting on each other, off and on throughout the movie. There's people talking during a movie, and then there's this. I've never been at a movie with anything like it. Anyway. I finally got up and went out to the main area, told the staff about it, and went and sat back down. Maybe another 10 minutes, kids are still doing it, and no one from the theater has done anything. Go out and say something a second time. The lady (I believe the manager of the shift, Amber?) actually came in this time, sat a seat away from them for maybe 5 minuets, during which time they of course behaved, then left again. The rest of the movie went about the same of shouting and phones from the three, and I wasn't going to bother getting up to complain a third time with no actual response from the manager. It's really disappointing. I can't hold it much against the kids - even if they should know better, they are still just kids. Everything else about the theater was good, so I'd imagine most peoples' experiences here will be good. But with a manager that cares this little, and so many options for good movie theaters around the cities, I won't be back.
