On the Grid : Manna Korean BBQ

"At first glance, this might look like your typical Korean BBQ place. All you can eat meat, grills on the table, etc. But you have to check out their monster salad bar. This place has fried chicken AT THE SALAD BAR, in addition to noodles, fruit and sushi. On top of that, the restaurant stretches for MILES so you’ll always be able to get a table here, which means you get to the salad bar a lot quicker." - Sandwich Video

This was a great experience! The food was delicious and the server was very helpful in explaining all the different options. Will definitely be returning 😁

Google
This place was a disappointment, first off it was my first time, staff didn't explain anything, right away they assumed I would get the A1 course, ok....when I ordered beef tongue, they gave me an enormous amount instead of reasonable portions. It's all you can eat but yet they drop a full lb on you, I was asked to change meats and they would discard this...so wasteful. I had to eat it all..I payed for one meat...one. rice was very stale, salad was too bitter with whatever dressing they drowned in, horrible experience, not worth it.

You can see where this place is very popular. Food choices were fresh, the staff were attentive.

Love all the beef & pork meat plus the sides. The steamed egg, not so much, too watery. The restrooms could use a little upgrade and cleaning.. also the hallway going to the restrooms. Food, I'll give it 4 1/2 stars Service, 5 stars Cleanliness, 3 stars

Google
Its hard to get extra napkins, clean utensil. But they good at refill our water 🤣 before we ask. Every times order only 5 items. Corn cheese and steam egg is our favorite. Bulgogi is good, baby octopus really not our 😬. Its fishy even after deep it in the sauce. Hawaian pork belly is better than garlic pork belly. La galbi is good. Salad is good. Never get our lettuce wrap. Manna steak hard to chew maybe because we cooked it well done. Overall is good.

It was our first time here, and our waiter was very helpful in getting our order. we had so much fun trying all the delicious food, definitely coming back in the future

Google
Worst manna location by far and I’ve been to almost every location in SD. I came in with a party of six and signed into the tablet properly. For context, it wasn’t busy at all, a lot of tables were open and a lot of the workers were just standing around. We were never greeted or updated about our table for 10+ minutes as we made eye contact with almost every worker in the restaurant. Then we proceed to see one of the waitresses happily sit down her party of two that just came in cause they were her friends. Unbelievable.

Google
Manna is an excellent and consistent 'All You Can Eat' (AYCE) Korean BBQ. The staff that is at this location is always friendly and helpful. The food that comes to the table is really good. They offer 2 different menu options, more or less Premium or Basic. Either one is a great option and has a variety to choose from. The sides offered are the same on either. Soon Dubu (Soybean Tofu Soup) is really great here. Especially when it cold or raining outside! This location can easily accommodate large parties. People are often celebrating with large gatherings here. The decor has been updated recently. Parking is hit and miss. There is a medium sized parking lot with plenty of parking. It can get full in the evenings right in front. Bring a jacket if you are going to have to wait out front. It can be very cold right by the door or out front.

Yelp
This spot is great for all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ! The flavors hit the spot every time, and the green onion salad paired with their meats is a divine combo. We always leave super satisfied with both the quality and variety of food. Service is quick, and they've recently added a tablet for easy ordering, which makes the whole experience even smoother. The restaurant is spacious, though a bit more outdated compared to newer spots--but honestly, we come here for the food, and it never disappoints.

Yelp
PROS: + Meat quality. + Lettuce wraps & sliced garlic. They serve it as a side that is not on the menu, but you can ask for it. CONS: - Japchae. It is bland with not enough ingredients in it to call a japchae. - Dessert. Menu price does not come with dessert. They only serve macarons that has to be added. - Service. It is busy & no consistent server to one table. You do have to ask any of the workers if you have a request. This is our one of our top AYCE Korean BBQ places in California simply because of the lettuce wraps & sliced garlic.

Yelp
I remember a time when Manna was some of the best KBBQ in SD. I'd never been to this San Marcos location before and probably haven't been to Manna on convoy in at least 10 years, but since that time I've been to quite a few others kbbq places that I much prefer. Went last weekend and it was stuffy/hot in the restaurant. The servers seemed annoyed/grumpy which was unpleasant. I unfortunately had hot oil dripped on my arm during a grill change and that sucked. The meat was good quality and the banchan options had nice variation. I like that they offer a plate of japchae standard issue along with the banchan and that they offer lettuce and pickled radish for saam style. The menu we chose offered mainly beef options which I was happy with but my husband was less thrilled about since he mainly eats chicken and seafood and there was only one option for chicken but we struggled to justify spending $38/person for a lunch where neither of us were particularly starving. I wish there was a way to do a la carte for kids or that it was less expensive for them as at least when it comes to my kids, they'll sit there and eat plain rice and a single egg roll haha. I also wish they offered draft beers and more Korean beer options. I don't know that I'll return to this location as there are other places closer to me that I prefer more, but it was pretty good for what it was and us being nearby the location

Yelp
We got the premium A all you can eat. Unfortunately we will not be returning. The server takes the first round of order and after that, you can order additional dishes on the tablet that they have on the side of the table. I noticed that some of the items (side dishes) that we have ordered never arrived so you may have to remind your server. The server lady was very nice, but the quality and taste of the food were really disappointing. The beef brisket and beef tongue were thick and tough and all the meats we have tried did not taste fresh. The side dishes were just okay, the tofu soup especially tasted a bit odd. The only meats that were somewhat edible were ribeye steak and goutsal.
google avatar

Kelsey D.

Yelp
We had a great experience here even with 2 small children. Staff were very accommodating to supply additional utensils and plenty of servings. The hawaiian pork belly was really good. My complaint is I'd like better dessert options outside of self serve, scooped ice cream.

Yelp
Came here a week ago and we got say fairly quickly. Our server was great and the food quality was also great for the price. I would definitely recommend this place over a lot of other places as other prices have higher prices with less options. Inside was very clean too.
google avatar

Yelp
Love coming here! I always order the beef belly, bulgogi, corn cheese, and rice paper. Service is quick and tables are always clean. Wish they had a more variety of sides but still a great place to go to for kbbq!
google avatar

Yelp
We love going here since it's one of the closer ayce kbbq spots in north county inland! Throughout the past 10 years, I can definitely say that this place has gotten a lot nicer! I don't feel like we need to go further south for just as good kbbq. Also always recommend to get the corn cheese! Some places give you something fully made, and some give you a small aluminum trays that you have to put on the grill, which is nice if you want your own, but I love when the restaurant gives you a giant plate of it. So shoutout to this place for having that!
google avatar

Frank R.

Yelp
I really like this place. I live very close. I will definitely come back here again. I have to say out of everything. I love the meat mixed with the glass noodles. It's a very good combination. There are so many different combinations that will match anyone's taste. Service was very good and fast. They changed our grill three times.
google avatar

Yelp
Went on a weekday at 4:30pm and we were sat immediately, it is a smaller though so I would imagine the wait is much longer on a friday-sunday for dinner. For a north county location, I loved the sides, the corn is my favorite here, and the portions of meat were very large. The service was just okay as we had to actually flag someone down for each grill change or water as it looked like nothing we would put through on the ipad would go through to the back. Just to note: because there are no vents above each table, the meat did take longer to cook on the grill. Overall, this is a great option for north county kbbq if you go at the right time.

Yelp
Manna still so good. They aren't too busy for a party of 4 or less, lots of tables and space. The meats are plentiful, the sides are plentiful. I really like their options. Their steam egg is good too. I like their salad, lettuce wraps, rice paper condiments and it goes well with the meats. Service was fine and if you need service just press the button and they'll come over. A good place for Korean bbq. Doesn't disappoint.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for the first time and had a good experience. Before we were seated, they set up the table with sides such as salad, kimchi, mac salad, glass noodles, etc. We then ordered soju, meats, corn cheese & rice. They let you order 4 meats at a time. Service was excellent as they come around often replacing grills, refilling water, taking order for more food. $30 for AYCE, extra $5 if you want shrimp, etc. My friend and I felt like we got our money's worth. Some of the meat was too chewy though. I would come back again.

Yelp
This was the first time in 6 years my husband and I were able to sit down WITH the kids and enjoy KBBQ without crazy interruption. My daughter took immediately to the ramen (like two bowls, non-spicy) and my son was more interested in the gyoza. Sure, we paid like $15 for him to eat dumplings, but hey it's the little wins! Brisket was a tad chewy, but the pork belly and steak were pretty delicious. Salad and sides were on point. The wait time was 0 minutes since we went there for lunch on a Saturday. The servers were attentive and quick. The water cups for the kids came with a lid which was a major plus. We sat there for about an hour and a half. An hour and a half!! With a three year old and 6 year old. It was seriously a blessing. Given that they had food, their aunty/uncle/cousin and pads as a distraction (I don't care!) I was in complete shock and for the first time was able to eat slowly and at peace.

Yelp
When the KBQ craving hits, it has GOTTA be Manna! We're lucky to be quite nearby the San Marcos location often, so it's super convenient. We showed up for an early dinner and were seated immediately; service with a smile! Our grilling skills (or lack thereof) *might* have screwed up the ambiance for a bit, cuz we left the pineapple bulgogi in there for too long and smoked up the place... Thankfully, staff was quick and courteous in switching out our grill plate. Highly recommend opting for the premium selection; we got full-on steaks with rosemary and butter!
google avatar

Serene C.

Yelp
Wow amazing AYCE Korean Bbq!! The meats are great quality and I loved the sides as well. Good variety and they give you plenty of Japchae. My favorite meats were the beef brisket and the LA Galbi. The fried dumplings weren't the hottest when it came out but other than that everything was fine.

Yelp
I went her for my birthday dinner with some friends. It's definitely a good place for a get together and fun with the cooking and drinking. They have two menus. One for $30 and another for $36. The main difference is that the more expensive one has seafood on it. The food was really good. It's nothing high end, but still very tasty. They have a very good selection as well. You just push a button and you get service. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

Yelp
I usually don't leave negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share our experience at this restaurant. We came here for the all-you-can-eat BBQ. Because we didn't want to waste food, we placed smaller orders and planned to order more as needed. However, after just our second round, the server told us we should order more at once so he wouldn't have to bring food back and forth. This made us feel extremely uncomfortable -- we were simply trying to be responsible diners and avoid food waste. To make matters worse, one of my friends who had been here before told me that during her previous visit, the same server complained that they were ordering "too much" food and told them to order less. So which is it? If we order too little, we're a problem. If we order too much, we're still a problem? It feels like no matter what you do, you're bothering the staff -- which is the last thing you want when you're paying $40+ per person for a meal. Food was fine, but the service left a bitter taste. We came to enjoy a meal, not to be shamed for how we order. We won't be returning, and I hope the management sees this and addresses the issue with their staff.

Yelp
After all these years we still love still place! Sometimes the wait is long, but it's always worth it. All the meats are delicious and the pricing is fair. We usually get on the waitlist through the Yelp app to save ourselves some time.

Yelp
We decided to come here for a fam get-together dinner.. The food here is good.. service is fast.. you order the meat and they bring out the order.. you cook your own food to your liking.. when u need a grill change or want to order more food, just push the button and someone will come up and ask how they can help you.. u tell them what you want and they go and grab it for you.. talk about food service.. there's great lighting for taking pictures and awesome music playing in the background.. there's music isn't super loud where u can't hear the other person sitting across from you is saying which is great.. the only thing I hate about leaving this place is smelling like KBBQ..
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
INSANELY EXPENSIVE! I will never come back. First off, it was very confusing of how to order and the waitress would not explain anything when we kept asking questions. Then we had to COOK OUR OWN FOOD. The cost for 2 people to hardly eat anything, and 2 small sodas cost $98.03 BEFORE TIP. There was an insanely high service fee???? Wtf is that? It was also freezing inside. I had my jacket on with my hood up, and my whole body was so cold. I will literally never come back. The food was way too average for how ridiculous the entire experience was.
google avatar

Audrey S.

Yelp
Great food and service. They were busy even on a Monday, but you likely don't need a reservation. Ive heard that they get busy on the weekends, so call ahead to reserve. They have a fantastic and extensive menu. Service was fast and i loved all the sides.
google avatar

Amanda J.

Yelp
I come here often for Korean BBQ because it's very close to my house. I've been coming here for years. They are typically really busy. During normal lunch and dinner times the wait for a table can get up to an hour. This spot is all you can eat. You BBQ your own food. My favorite meats to get are beef brisket, pork belly, and rosemary steak. I also love the steamed egg and corn cheese. They have a lot of appetizer options. I enjoy the green onion salad, pickled radish, jalapeños/veggies, and kimchi. The restaurant is pretty big. It gets loud in there, especially if someone is celebrating their birthday. The staff turns on a loud birthday song while they sing and bang tambourines to recognize someone's birthday. The service ranges from excellent to not very good depending on who serves you. Most of the servers are nice and attentive. I love that they have a ringer at each table so you can ring for service when you need it. There are a couple servers there that are not friendly and borderline rude. They give you an attitude if you don't order the way they want you to (meats only first before telling them anything else you might want) and just looking unhappy the whole time. I love this spot other than the one or two servers there that I hope not to get sat in their section.

Yelp
It was my first time at this place and I came with a genuine open mind. However, there were so many things that could have been better that have made me give them a 1 star. First, the parking lot space is so small! You have to do rounds to be able to find parking. Second, it is FREEZING inside. The weather was 58 outside and somehow it was even colder inside. The server seemed super annoyed, every time we asked a question, since my partner and i mentioned we were new to the place and the entire experience. She never answered any of our questions, was unhelpful, snappy and pushy when asking for our choices. The check was outrageous! This place is SO expensive! AND THEY CHARGE FOR AN OBLIGATORY "service fee"! My partner and I payed a hundred bucks for nearly no food and 2 drinks. Food is not even that good for that price!
google avatar

Francesca G.

Yelp
Great food for a great price but there definitely was slow service. Otherwise, worth it.
google avatar

Kaitlyn J.

Yelp
Best cheesy corn i've had in north county, would absolutely go there just for that but everything else hits. Great service, great space.
google avatar

Yelp
We have been coming to Manna for many years. The price for the food is good. They have great meats and good salads. Our friends really enjoy this place so we don't mind coming with them. Lately it has been great because the wait time has been around 15 mins. There have been times we wanted to eat here but the wait time was 2 hours lol. Popular Korean place.
google avatar

Kyle I.

Yelp
Very good Korean bbq spot! I was surprised how crowded it was on a Sunday but they sat my party of 5 very quickly. Great service and good prices. Of course we did all you can eat. Their selection is pretty good compared to other restaurants. I do wish they had more seafood on their menu. They have a small selection on their premium choices. The service was prompt and they made sure we always had everything we needed. Sometimes Korean bbq places can leave you waiting for your next order but fortunately that wasn't the case here! I will definitely visit again.

Yelp
I am a large man. Because I like to eat. I had heard about Manna Heaven and after eatin' here i know where it gets the name from. Because you say to yourself man i in heaven. I'm just going to put it out there. It was delicious like you would not believe. Like you would not believe. I had worked up a appetite because I took my poodle for a walk. About a half mile or so. Once I got home I was so hungry i knew a snickers bar would not satisfy. Normally I stick to beef but I was told the other items were good. So I ordered different things like shrimp and pork. I do love shrimp and it was cooked to perfection. They say you can judge a restaurant by how good the food is, and this place was perfection with a capitol P. Thank you.
google avatar

Chris N.

Yelp
One of the very few Korean spots in north county. I'd rate it a 3/10 when compared to all the great Korean bbq spots in Orange and LA county. Quality of the meat, especially the galbi is lacking. Satisfies the craving if you're not willing to make the drive up north but there's definitely better places elsewhere.
google avatar

Paul K.

Yelp
Korean manna from heaven is called korean barbeque. I came with my family and we all were able to sit together and break meat. It was wonderful quality beef and pork. We also enjoyed the many side dishes that were top tier quality. There was no skimping out on the quality of the food. Great location with plenty of parking. And the service is attentive and great.
google avatar

Michaela E.

Yelp
Great quality cuts of meat, they serve you plenty each portion. Very busy, I'd go during not peak hours. They added an iPad ordering system which is so helpful my go to in the San Marcos/Vista area. Much better than Gaja in Oceanside!
google avatar

Ramon D.

Yelp
My family's go to Korean bbq spot in North County San Diego. We go here mostly every month. My son loves the corn cheese and I always order steam egg and fried rice for my sides. The quality of meat is good and restaurant needs a little bit more love. Maybe need some more love and attention in the restroom. Even before we moved to North County , Manna is our spot. We loved the sauce, that I can't find somewhere else (not sure if that's their own). And we've try a lot. Good service but sometimes it can be slow that looks like due to low staff members but they improved it now, they have the bell button for service and with tablet now to order. Sometimes it can get really busy but compared to other locations, maybe 10 minutes will be our longest wait. I bring family and friends here and they don't disappoint. The prices for sure went up, I remember on my first Manna experience way back it was around $21 the A-2. Quality food comes with a price. We will come back. See you soon!
google avatar

Anna L.

Yelp
Service is great, at first I thought it was a pretty small kbbq spot but I didn't realize there is a back room available too.. highly recommend the LA Galbi and beef belly. Something I don't see very often is that they have lettuce on the menu, not lettuce salad, just lettuce so you can make wraps with it (IYKYK!), add an order of green onion salad, and it's the perfect combo with your meat of choice. If you order the lettuce they bring the garlic, jalapeño, and ssamjang too. So good.
google avatar

Maddie M.

Yelp
Best Korean BBQ in Vista/ Escondido area! Great service, quick service, great ambiance and good for families and kids! The sides were delicious especially the Chinese noodle dish and salad! The meats were so fresh and large portions! Great all you can eat!
google avatar

Erika M.

Yelp
Manna is usually my goto AYCE KBBQ. The marinating flavors are the best here! I was unimpressed with the bulgogi. It was not good and was too chewy. However I do love their LA YANGNYUM galbi and beef tongue. Corn fondue is also a must. Kids under 5 eat free. Age 5-9 years old eat half price. I was disappointed with this rule. My 5 year old barely eats so charging him half price isn't realistic to me. The servers were nice but understaffed.
google avatar

Randy

Yelp
Arrived on Sunday for the premium package which is 35.99 per person. Jennifer was super excited and impressed me with her smile and engagement once seated . She has an incredible sense of humor and engagement, to include recommendations . The inside is nicely decorated and has a good vibe. It's a smaller place so you could def be seated with others close enough to hear your conversation. Food was delicious , juicy meat and good flavor
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
Price point for value and flavor is what makes this restaurant worth the trip! You will not leave hungry and for $35 person, that is pretty amazing. Not to mention, you will have fun!
google avatar

Jules F.

Yelp
Really delicious Korean bbq spot with multiple locations. This one is great! Third Manna I've been to and it did not disappoint. One of the great things is that you can really just choose as many different things on the menu as you want. I've gotten the premium and the regular before and they're both fantastic. The premium is really if you just want to add items one through eight. But the regular Menu is exceptional as well. If you're going for Korean food, you have to try the Galbi. I really dig the jumalook and bulgogi as well. I love the banchan. We always get extra kimchis and wilted greens. The fresh salad is tasty too. Don't forget the Sundubu spicy tofu soup for a real treat! Oh and the service here is fantastic. Attentive and eager to bring you more. It's all you can eat! But pace yourself each meat dish is about a pound of food.

Ryan

Yelp
AWESOME food and service, went very well every time that we went and we keep wanting to go back but worry about raising our cholesterol LOL. Jokes of course, but the food is so addictive, if you're looking for a new place to try out but worry about not liking it, this is THE place! Our experience every time consists of a somewhat long wait BUT the food and everything else after the waiting is so damn worth it.

Yelp
Manna is one of the best spots to get KBBQ in north county! For $30ish dollars it's so worth it because it's all u can eat. If u go to your local Korean grocery store (which is a good drive from north country) you'll be spending about $10 for one plate. I clearly had a great time here because I forgot to take good pictures of the food!! There's a great selection of meats and good side dishes. They also give big servings. The indoor decor is also very cute. There is also a big parking lot outside. The service is amazing! The ladies are super sweet & even made my friend's birthday so much better with her positive energy! Just FYI be cautious if you are planning to come here later in the evening. We came in around 8:30pm and they do last call for meat around 9PM. We felt a little rushed because we were the last ones in there but the nice servers assured us to take our time because they do not close until 10:30.
google avatar

Yelp
We've eaten at this location and the one down on convoy. Each location keeps the meats coming. Service is good. The staff are good at replacing grills that are getting blackened and knowing what heat to cook at. Drinks can go dry sometimes, I have learned to get a soda, and a water. Soda is served by the can, they'll offer you a cup of ice if you want it. Ambiance is all about eating. They've packed as many tables into the place. Each table has a spread of Korean sides (kimchi, bamboo, coleslaw, potato salad, and a few others I've forgotten). They will restock the sides upon request.

Randy M.

Yelp
Always a great time at this place. Great value for the quality and selection of items on the menu, and expected atmosphere for AYCE. Luck of the draw on getting a good or great server.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Korean BBQ, we always come back to this place even after trying other places this restaurant beats them all!
google avatar

G M.

Yelp
If it is a craving and a drive to Oceanside is not possible then it will do. I found the banchan not fresh and sometimes not great and not to par. The meat is ok but again it is if you need to scratch the itch because it is near and convenient but this location is not my first choice. It is ok but banchan is not fresh.

Yelp
Manna (from Heaven) KBBQ has several locations (Convoy Street) in and around greater San Diego. It is one of the best and tastiest AYCE Korean barbecues. As I mentioned in a recent review of Ji Rong up in Rosemead, Lunar New Year is a magical time of of year. It's gets my taste buds reviving for for some delicious Asian food. This year was no different. Our son recommended this location, since it's about half way for both of us. We arrived around one-thirty, as the Lunch crowd was easing out. We were seated pretty quickly and had waters and Menus offered almost immediately. The only real decision was whether we wanted a larger 47 item selection, which includes Pork Jowl, Beef Tongue, Shrimp and Squid for $33.99 AYCE. Or, the slight smaller 35 item selection for $26.99 AYCE. You do get Bulgogi, Chadol, Octopus, Korean Gyoza and Beef Belly in both. We went with the smaller selection and had plenty to choose from, see Menu items. Our tab for three came to just under $100 for three, including soft drinks and taxes, but before gratuities. Five Stars AYCE Korean BBQ

Yelp
Average all around. Hadn't eaten here in a year or so and came by for an early dinner. There are two menus and the one with more meat options was about $30 per person. Although service was decent, the meat quality was significantly different than the Manna in Mira Mesa and Convoy. For example, the chadol (thinly sliced beef brisket) was super chewy and not my fav. I would also skip the rosemary pork steak next time and get the manna steak. All the other meats were flavorful and tasted delicious without any sauce. I noticed they had a lot of sauces in squeeze bottles but you should try the meat plain first to know what quality it is. For sides, the fishcake with jalapeno and japchae tasted good, but some of the banchan were obviously stored in the freezer! The macaroni salad, bean sprouts and the spinach side were almost icy. The rice paper wraps were also super cold and hard. The kimchee was disappointing too. We usually ask for refills on the sides, but didn't want any! I appreciate people refilling waters and brining napkins when needed. The store is also pretty clean. I am surprised it gets so busy (maybe due to the lack of similar food in the area). Personally, I would rather drive to Mira Mesa or Oceanside when I am having a Korean BBQ craving.

Visited this location twice. Here are the highlights of my review: Service: Although they do accept walk-ins, make a reservation beforehand especially when arrivind during peak hours and days. We noticed during our visits that you will be seated much faster than the walk-ins. Reception was polite and the service, which includes the food turnaround was above average. 5/5 stars Food: You have two AYCE (all you can eat) options, didn't note the pricing however the more common meats will always be on the lesser priced option. In summary, your common AYCE meats (i.e. bulgogi, pork belly, beef belly) were good. The Manna steak (flat iron) was a tad chewy for my taste. The food at this AYCE was not bad but didn't stand out either. Our sides were rice paper, corn cheese, steamed egg (must try), japchae style noodles were good too. Beer was ice cold too. 5/5 stars Overall: Being that it's an AYCE BBQ joint, this is one of the more cleaner restaurants that I've been to. Tables and floors weren't sticky and the service to prep the table for next patron was fast. Ventilation was good too, the smoke doesn't circulate around the restaurant like some AYCEs. I would return when in the area.
