Dear Googlers,
York delivered two fabulous meals this weekend. The first, just written about was the Fox and Roman. Now, this cafe my wife has been following online for sometime. And, I have to say it was a pleasure.
Locals queuing for a restaurant is the world's best recommendation. Anywhere where the locals eat, you should too. Funny listening to American cousins who didn't understand the menu and turned themselves away.
Anyway. Yorkshire Rarebit. What can I say. A triumph of cheese on toast, with bacon. The tomato jam, yum! I did think about asking for brown sauce. The only place I've had such good rarebit is Terry's, Great Suffolk St in London. They put a duck egg on top. Back to Mannion. Coffee great. Made by someone whose not just stuffing hot water through the machine. Definitely care and attention. Service was good. Again York delivered on the genuine service.
While Betty's maybe an institution, Mannion is the informal counter point. Go, choose off the boards and enjoy.
