Manoir sur le Cap is a charming hotel in an excellent location. My room was advertised as being "small" and it most certainly was, with just a bed and a dresser. I would not recommend this size of room for a couple or a family, but for a solo traveller it was fine. The bed was very comfortable and the room and bathroom clean. I appreciated that the room had a mini fridge and I loved the balcony. Why I'm not giving a 5-star review: there were multiple caveats and downsides. The coffee and tea station included teabags but no way to boil water; there was an icebucket but nowhere to get ice; the reception closed at 4 or 5 PM and there was no way to get, say, refills of coffee pods or other amenities after hours. Setting up a basket of toiletries and small items you might need in public areas would have been nice. There is no elevator - not that you'd really expect one in a historic home - and the stairs are narrow and steep and the railing is low. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with mobility issues or even vertigo. If you are an able-bodied solo traveler looking for a reasonably-priced hotel across from the Chateau Frontenac, this is a really good choice!

The room was damp and musty but clean and quiet. It was ok for one night. The bed was comfy but pillows were either too flat or too puffy. The lady on reception was very helpful and the location was great-walking distance to shops and restaurants. Old port was very pretty.

We stayed in this hotel in 2022 with our kids and loved it and the city so much that it was our first choice this past week when we wanted a place to go to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We stayed in the "condo" both times as we loved having the extra space. The location of the hotel is so close to everything in Old Quebec which was perfect if we wanted to pop back to the hotel for a little break. The staff was friendly and helpful and despite the fact that we only speak English, they communicated with us fairly well. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

I loved that my room had all the charm and uniqueness of a century earlier...but all the modern conveniences. It was a good central location in the old Quebec area I wanted to explore. A walkable location for history, restaurants and shopping. The staff suggested walks and restaurants and were great at answering questions. Comfortable bed and room temperature controls that worked great for the cool rainy days we were there. (I only mention that because we met travelers staying elsewhere who said they wore there coats to bed!)

I spent my last night of a 16-day trip at the Manoir Sur Le Cap. It is in a great location and is separated from the Chateau Frontenac only by a pretty park. This hotel, like most in the area, is an older building with lots of historical charm. It also includes a long, winding staircase up to the rooms. I mention this only because I had WAY too much luggage! Thankfully, the guy at the front desk helped bring up my very large and extremely heavy bag … up two and a half flights! I also really appreciated that I was able to check in early because I had just gotten off a cruise ship so I was in the city early! I took a tour and then came back and my room was available! For cruisers, I’d suggest doing an excursion to eat up some time before heading to the hotel! The room I had was simple but clean. The air conditioning unit above the door worked its magic perfectly (it was 30C/86F when I was there with 80 percent humidity!!!). The room I had included a partial view of the river, which was nice! It also had a large window that I think opened (I couldn’t figure out how to open it and didn’t want to break it!) and there was a little balcony with a chair out there! The TV included apps you could log in to to watch from your accounts, which was nice. The bathroom was clean and included a hair dryer and essential toiletries. It was a nice stay, and, again, the location was amazing! If you’re like me and coming with a lot of luggage, I’d suggest requesting the ground floor (I’m not sure which type of room is on that first floor, though). Those with physical limitations might struggle in a lot of the city with its steep hills, and do note that this hotel is on a slight hill and includes steps to enter the first and second doors and the front desk area (and, of course, all those glorious stairs to the rooms). Overall, it was a great trip and I’m so glad I stayed at this charming spot!

We absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. The building itself is a heritage property, and its old-world charm is beautifully preserved through the décor and overall ambiance. Our room was on the second floor — not very large, but spacious enough for a couple like us. The bed was comfortable, and all the amenities (air conditioning, iron, hot and cold water, hair dryer) worked perfectly. The room was furnished with wooden pieces that matched the old school vibe. The artwork on the walls was particularly intriguing, offering glimpses of old Quebec City and everyday life from the past. The location is excellent, and our room had view of the Château Frontenac — a real highlight!

Location is amazing, it is at the center of Old Quebec and you basically can walk to all touristy spots from this hotel. We couldn’t find the hotel at first (google was a bit weird) but we were able to sort it out with the help of the other hotel nearby. I spoke to reception probably twice and the experience was neutral. Customer service could be better - I had to ask if my card was charged because reception did not go over this and we wanted to pay at the property, not a lot of explanations were given. “Here’s your key, room 4. Card on booking.com will be charged.” Oh well 🥲 It was also a bit annoying that you had to walk to the reception to ask about parking and they couldn’t give you directions in advance; however, a wonderful neighbour helped us find parking right across the hotel’s entrance so that made up for it lol We booked a two double bed room (Room 4, just one flight of stairs - Take note: No elevators) and it was big enough for a family of 4. The bathroom was spacious as well. The hotel has an older style (even the curtains, TVs and comforters looked old) but overall, no complaints. I felt like I was in my grandmother’s ancestral home.

Manoir-sur-le-Cap was perfect for what I needed: a good, affordable hotel close to the action with parking. The absolute bonus was my little terrace out the back overlooking the St Lawrence. I opted for the small double room - a bit tight, but absolutely fine for one person - and the terrace felt like a luxurious extension of the room. Kelvin made late night self-check in easy... and the parking lot at the back was a godsend. I wish there had been a mini kettle in the room, rather than just a Kroenig coffee maker, but the fridge was a nice touch. Would recommend!

Yelp
I have to agree with Kameron G.'s review. The customer service at Manoir Sur-le-Cap was horrible! I have traveled all over the world and have learned to keep a "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door. If I need linens and toiletries, I know that I can ask the hotel and get them. On our last day, we went down to get coffee, and the Asian manager said we couldn't have any!!! What???? Here we are guests who paid to stay at this place. She explained that it was because we didn't allow the maid in to refresh our towels and such. She said that if we wanted coffee, we'd have to pay for it!! Manoir Sur-le-Cap, you have a beautiful establishment in a great location and for an "okay" price. Do something about your customer service!

Yelp
I love this little hotel right across from the Chateau Frontenac and next to the Terrasse Dufferin. I found this place 10 years ago, long before Yelp and Trip Advisor and it's nice to know that it is still owned by the same family. There have been some décor upgrades since my last visit but everything else has remained the same. This isn't a luxury hotel (rates are extremely reasonable - from $70 per night during the off-season) so there is no breakfast, no concierge and no parking but the rooms in which I've stayed and seen on my way in and out of the hotel are all charming and functional. They vary in size and amenities but all are reasonably priced, clean and cozy. I'd say that there are 15 or 16 rooms total - all different and all with private baths. Many feature stone walls, wrought iron beds and sitting areas. A few, like mine, even feature outdoor balconies. Parking is available right across the park in the Chateau's garage but there are also a few street spots scattered around the very quiet neighborhood. I really do love Hotel Sur le Cap but on this trip, I had a couple of less than pleasant experiences that may influence my decision to stay there in the future. #1 - As I was getting ready for bed, I took my earrings out and one fell down the uncovered sink drain. I thought for sure their maintenance person would be able to fish it out of the p trap but I never received any follow up. The next bit of disappointment came when I let the desk clerk know that we were leaving one night early because of the huge snowstorm that was about to hit. I certainly didn't expect them to refund us, but it would have been nice for them to do what the hotel next door had done for their guests and offer a partial credit toward a future stay. As many Yelpers have said before, you get what you pay for but sometimes you get more. I still love Manoir sur le Cap and I would absolutely recommend it to other travelers, just don't expect stellar customer service.

Yelp
I rarely leave negative reviews. I always feel like there's pros and cons to each place I visit, but I try to focus on the positives. And let me preface this by saying I never actually stayed at this hotel. I booked this hotel for a 3 day weekend getaway to Quebec, Friday to Monday. Unfortunately, a snow storm cancelled my Friday night flight, so I was put on the first flight out Saturday morning. I immediately emailed the hotel to tell them I would not be coming and to feel free to give it away. Saturday, my flight took off and 10 minutes later, a door blew open and we had to return to the airport to get it fixed. We waited 7 hours until they finally said it could not be fixed. I went back and forth via email with the hotel a few times during this whole time to keep them updated and finally let them know we would not be coming at all. By this point, late Saturday afternoon, we decided to just cancel the trip, but not for lack of trying. The hotel told us we had to cancel on the site we booked it on, so I immediately called hotels.com and asked them to cancel the hotel room so we wouldn't get charged again. Hotels.com called the hotel and asked them to cancel it for us, and the hotel said they couldn't do that because we were technically mid-stay. So that was pointless. Not only that, they charged me for the whole trip that I didn't get to take. After 4 months of going back and forth with the hotel and credit card company, the hotel agreed to refund me for 2 nights and charge me for 1 night. So not only did I have to get a new hotel room at the original airport for Friday night to try to get to Quebec the next morning, I also paid for a hotel room in Quebec that I did not use. I lost a lot of money on a trip I never took. I feel like this is bad business practice and have explained over and over that I wasn't a no-show on purpose, and I kept in touch with them as soon as possible each time new information arose. They were free to re-rent the hotel room each night I told them I wouldn't be there. And due to winter in Canada and a large snow storm, I doubt the hotel was sold out and they weren't losing money. As a big business versus a single person, I definitely lost in this battle. The hotel probably lost nothing by not having anyone use water and electricity and not paying housekeeping, while I paid for double hotels, food, and transportation and spent my holiday at an airport. Both the hotel and American Express failed me on this trip. As someone who travels VERY often, I have never seen a hotel be so unreasonable. Because of their unwillingness to work with me, I wouldn't trust other aspects of this hotel. If anything in your plans change, you can count on Manoir Sur le Cap to fight you on everything. If you need anything while abroad in Canada, I would trust a bigger hotel with a better reputation. Unfortunately, I like to stay at boutique hotels and give the little guys business, but this time I got burned by that. Last thought: think twice about booking with a hotel that so strongly feels their rules are the last word and extenuating circumstances mean the customer is wrong!

Yelp
First off, let me start off saying that we absolutely LOVED the location of this hotel. Perfect walking distance to great views and activities, and the entire neighborhood looks like it's straight out of a movie. There are dozens of hotels in the neighborhood (and that same street for that matter), though. Unfortunately, the only spoiler to a perfect Valentines Day vacation was Manoir Sur Le Cap. When we arrived, we believed we would be getting a room which had two double beds (as per our reservation on Expedia). After lugging up our luggage three narrow, winding flights of stairs (no elevator), we arrived in a tiny closet of a room which housed only one double bed. Confused, my boyfriend came back down to ask the front desk who rudely told him he was confused and patronized him by explaining what "double" meant. She told us if we wanted a bigger room, we would have to pay the additional cost. We gave up as the bickering was getting nowhere (also, this hotel had limited hours so the woman was trying to put on her shoes and bolt out the door to go home), and took the single double. This size would have been adequate for one single person, as we couldn't open up both luggages in the room while keeping walking space. The room itself was clean, but dimly lit with only two side lamps. The main light was flickering so we couldn't use it, but the front office was locked before we could ask anything about it. There is a fridge inside, which was a plus, and the bathroom area was clean and not as cramped. There is a complimentary coffee maker, but when we made hot water from it the water had bits of dust inside. The second days events is what pushed me over the edge to write this bad review. We were on our way out of the hotel to go dog sledding on Valentines Day when we heard a quiet knock on the door. It was the woman we spoke to the prior day, telling us that someone would be coming into our room while we were gone to take marketing photos. She told us to lock our bags in case, and that she would move our things while the photographer was there. My boyfriend told her that he was not comfortable with that, and that it was not okay with us as 1. We didn't have time to pack up since we had 20 minutes to make it to our appointment, and 2. We had paid for and reserved the hotel room on VALENTINES DAY. She kept pushing, saying that it was the only day the photographer could come as he was 'busy'. We asked if they could take photos of the other rooms instead ( only four rooms out of fourteen I believe being used ), but she said it had to be that day. My boyfriend wouldn't budge and she ended up leaving, but we locked up our things anyway since we couldn't be sure that no one would come in that day ( if she would have come just moments later, we would have been gone and she could have gone in without consent ). I don't believe the woman meant to give us a hard time ( we couldn't communicate 100% with her in English ), but this hotel really needs to work on customer service, problem solving skills and respect towards their customers. There are plenty of hotels on the same street, so I advise choosing one of the neighboring ones instead. If you do, I would recommend to get one of the larger rooms and to always leave your things secured and locked up. Don't expect to be able to get any help there since they will either be not there or will argue with you about how you are wrong. Didn't offer a receipt during check in or check out, nor did they ask us how our stay was. May be good for people not traveling with anything valuable, and guest who will be there only to sleep (you never know who may waltz through). Disappointing Valentine's Day stay.

Yelp
Very good location, clean and nice stuff. I was in the roon no.16 which is on the top floor. It has very nice view of Fairmont and the park beside. Inside the room it was small but enough for 2 people, there is a bathtub at the end of the bed, TV, fridge, and a 2 pieces bathroom. I can say "I love this little hotel" and "I will come back for sure"

Yelp
This place is full of character, quiet, very comfortable, and close to the action. For 2 nights we had Room 3: kitchenette ( toaster, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, electric teakettle, mini fridge, sink, dishes and silverware and cabinet space). We also had a little patio table and chair outside, and a private entrance. The room was very nice with two beds and a table, TV, and chairs. We also stayed in the room first door on the left as you walk in (can't recall the number). It was also super comfortable for our family of 4 for one night. Down to earth, easy walking, nice situation right on the quiet park next to the Frontenac and the waterfront boardwalk. And, if you happen to require a visit to the US Consulate, it is about 40 paces from the front door! Only minor downside is parking. Unload at the door and then find a parking garage or lot. They will help you! We were pleasantly surprised by the cost of the big public parking lot down on the waterfront, which is a 10 or 15 minute walk. (For some reason we expected around $32US per night but it turned out to be less than that.) There's other parking that is closer, but we were there on the busy "New France Festival" so those options were full. It seems street parking is not an option in this neighborhood. Would love to come back to MslC.

Yelp
Great place! Nice service ! Family friendly. Close to the water and besides the chateau frontenac.... Great location!! Beautiful rooms and love all the antiques, paintings and stairs!

Yelp
Location would be hard to beat. Right in the walls with a quiet park across the street. We had #16 at the very top of this old building. Room tried to keep period with open beams and a cute clawfoot tub in the middle of the room - but the space was better used for our bags and turning around in the tiny spaces left over. Shower room was small but functional. A work-a-round AC unit was not needed at night as we propped open the un-screened window, but heat rises and an afternoon nap required full blast. No bfast is offered - an issue for some but we'd rather be forced out to seek a local spot and local people. We were happy enough to extend our stay.

Yelp
Really nice old house/hotel from way back when. Very small rooms, no TV but awesome little balconies and window A/C. Great value and friendly staff with helpful tips on fun stuff to get up to. Who needs a TV on holiday anyway? F that.

Yelp
Sur le Cap was a fantastic little hotel with character and warmth! It's situated right next to the Chateau and river front, across from a small park. It's peaceful and easy to find! The hotel itself is old fashioned but beautiful. The staff members were extremely friendly and helpful, and I really enjoyed the long climb up the carpeted stairs to our room. The décor reflected the original era of the house and the little balcony (with limited river view) was great! The TV is tucked into a cabinet, so remember to explore! The toiletries were nicely arranged and the bathroom was small, but clean. It was a definite bonus that they had a Keurig machine! I would definitely recommend staying in this hotel if you were on a budget!

Yelp
I can echo what's already been said. Lot's of character, good location, nice staff, reasonable price. I went recently and it hadn't changed much from 10 years ago.

Yelp
Location is definitely key here. Right by the Frontenac hotel, the governors garden, the citadelle, the terrasse, the petit-champlain...I could go on but you have all of old Quebec within walking distance. Despite the hotels lack of breakfast, they make for it in free wifi, keurigs, decent TVs and charm by the bucket load. The staff is lovely and are always willing to help. I highly recommend this as a place to stay for couples given the smaller size of the rooms. If you're a New Yorker, like me, you won't even notice the difference!
