manorhaus Ruthin, Denbighshire, North Wales - Explore & Book

"As soon as you step through the front door of these converted Grade II-listed Georgian townhouses, the ‘stylometer’ starts to soar. This is no run of the mill hotel. manorhaus Ruthin (with a very deliberate small m) is a restaurant with stylish rooms and art gallery all rolled into one. Owners Christopher Frost and Gavin Harris bought it in 2002 and certainly know a thing or two about design. Be ready to discover your very own art gallery in your bedroom, each one showcases local talent, as do the lounge, bar and restaurant. Bold colour schemes and modern furniture work well alongside the original features of this beautiful building. Settle down to dinner and the design theme continues: the food is beautifully presented, delicious and local.Venture outside and there is a definite air of sophistication to Ruthin. The timber framed houses bulge with delicatessen, gift emporia and jewelry galleries. This town also has a name in the arts world, thanks to its £4 million craft centre. Highs The beautifully designed rooms have fabulous power showers and fast-fill bathsThere's art everywhere and you'll always find something new to discover Ruthin is a magical town with much to exploreThere are lots of facilities that you wouldn't expect in a small hotel, including a bijou cinema, a library, a sauna, a fitness room, a bar and a great restaurantSister property to the lovely manorhaus Llangollen Lows The house is set right on one of the town’s busy roadsThe artwork in some rooms is bold and bright - it may not be to everyone’s tasteSome rooms are compact; some may find them a little too smallWhen we last visited, rooms were showing signs of wear and tear" - Fiona Reece

Beautiful hotel in the centre of Ruthin but very quiet. We only stayed one night but wished it was more. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed, they've thought of everything. Unfortunately we were there for a family event and didn't get to dine in the restaurant. We hope to come back one day.

Stylishly decorated, well equipped, clean and comfortable, close to the centre of town. ||Bed was super relaxing and breakfast was top class. ||Sam the dog was also made welcome. ||Rhuthun is a great base to see the surrounding countryside. We were at the top of Moel Fammau taking in the panorama and a couple of hours later soaking in the bath ready for a night out. ||Diolch yn fawr.

Stayed 2 nights whilst visiting the area.|Positives: well priced, well located, spacious room, tea and coffee facilities were good.||Negatives: room layout a bit odd, with a bath in front of the window and a wet room that had seen better days. The locks on the doors are pretty poor. In fact the room door wouldn’t lock very easily and the closing arm needed adjusting, the fire door at the top of the stairs was unnecessarily heavy, the front door required slamming to shut and the front gate was a pain. So entry and exit wasn’t a pleasant experience. The shampoo and conditioner didn’t work, there was no shower gel.||Overall the place has the potential to be very good, but it feels in need of a bit of tlc.

Beautiful boutique hotel, comfy bed, clean room, quality linen and furnishings, helpful hosts. We couldn't recommend highly enough. We would definitely stay again 5 stars!

The room we had was lovely but contrary to what the web site said our group were unable to dine there on the Tuesday. It looked and felt like an experiment on how to run a hotel with two people, very nice people would add.

Absolutely fantastic stay. The host was very polite and friendly. We ate in the restaurant on the Friday night and the food, drink and service was 10/10. The bedroom was immaculate and had every thing we needed. Lots of nice extras such as a cafetiere with coffee in the room, dressing gowns and toiletries. Perfect location . Will definitely return in the future.

Arrived and followed the comprehensive instructions to gain access to the property, find our room and collect parking permit - all went without a hitch. Nearby carpark has lots of space but can drop off at the door. Pass works across the county which is a real bonus. Room was dramatically decorated in dark tones and floral paper - and really worked. We had said we were bringing our dog - a bed and bowls were waiting for her in our room. Fresh ground coffee and cafetière in the room too. Small details - big impression. We had breakfast on both mornings - wonderful Welsh breakfast (with amazing bacon) freshly cooked to order. Dining area is informal and full of interesting art. In the basement there is a fantastic 20-seat cinema. Gavin & Chris put on films with a themed 2-course menu that residents can attend, but is open to locals - we got a quick preview: sound quality and seating are impressive and the setting is unique. Look at their website for details - we want to return for the experience. Perfect location to explore the whole town on foot; garden furniture to sit quietly and read if you want. Lovely hosts, lovely stay in this historic but very comfortable quirky accommodation.

A boutique guest house with great food options, there's even a bijou cinema in the basement for film nights.

Yelp
Let us not get confused here. All this fusion crap going on with trying to make food more 'interesting' has unfortunately spilled over into the accommodation business. Fundamentally it means that people fill a place full of tat and upsell by saying their bed and breakfast is now a 'Boutique Hotel' and charging double or even triple what the going rate is. I have paid far less in London for hotels far better than this. I paid a Kings ransom purely because it was a last minute booking and I was going to be out until the wee hours at a local gig and it seems this was enough to bump u the price. To top it all, I missed the roll call for breakfast and they didn't even offer to make up a small plate or pot of Tea in lieu. I managed to get a laff out of the experience though, as I was leaving it started to piss down and, because they don't have parking, I had to walk half a mile to recover the vehicle. The 'Manager' opened the door for me and basically shut it immediately behind me without a word of goodbye or the offer of an umbrella. I felt about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit. It was so existential it actually made me laugh out loud. For the record .... A boutique is "a small store that sells stylish clothing, jewelry, or other usually luxury goods".The word is French for "shop". By literal definition, it is not a fucking hotel.

Yelp
The Manorhaus in Ruthin is a charming gem of hotel run by 2 fellows with exquisite taste. The hotel's exterior is a bit drab but once you get inside, it is comfortably (if eclectically) decorated. I am not a fan of modern art but even I was intrigued by the unusual photographs and paintings which apparently change out from time to time. In fact, it felt a bit like being in a hip fun art gallery. Our room was well appointed with a comfortable bed, a flat screen TV, a DVD player and excellent reading lights. The hotel has a small sauna, a delightful reading room/library filled with the latest design magazines and large selection of current DVD's to play back in your room. We booked a half-board stay and really enjoyed the food at the Manorhaus. In fact, the best dessert of our trip to the UK was their Lemon Tart with homemade Honey Ice Cream! We even tried to get the recipe but they politely refused as there are plans to eventually market it. (it is THAT GOOD!). There were several breakfast offerings ranging from healthy to typical fried breakfast foods.
