Malaysian Food Is Multicultural and Ever-changing Thanks to a New Generation of Chefs

"A tiny neighborhood stall where a simple breakfast of milky tea, roti, curry and a poached egg can be had for about a dollar or so, exemplifying some of the city's most economical morning meals." - Jeff Chu Jeff Chu Jeff Chu is an editor-at-large at Travel + Leisure. The roti canai is cheap and delicious. It is filled with dhal and paired with runny eggs and sambal. I would recommend if you live in KL Masjid India. Also got me goreng and nasi lemak (very nice and spicy also).

I’ve been here twice the taste and quality stays the same for years. Love the roti canai and egg combo. It’s affordable and very filling. One cons from my second visit is that now it seems people can smoke while eating here, it was not the case 2 years ago.

AVOID!! (Indian with Indian palate here) I don't know how anyone can screw up a flaky Paratha, yellow daal and fried eggs... But these guys managed. Their Roti Canai 'special' was a putrid mess. We had a nice Indian (or Pakistani) waiter was helpful with translating/explaining what some of the dishes were. Only saving grace was a Maggi noodle dish served with chicken. And it's Cash only. Anyways. AVOID.

Went on weekend morning, 8.30am. Specially is roti canai. Saw many ordered roti banjir and telor goyang. They take cash only. Parking is easy for motor. Service was fast. There's a mountain of roti canai ready to be served.

Stopped by at 5am on a Monday morning, while doing my laundry next door, and so happy I did. I ordered Roti banjir special and a hot tea. It's was delicious. Not sure of the price though as a fellow early morning diner kindly offered to pay for me. Malaysians are awesome. 😊

I came to this place because of the plethora of high reviews. But in reality, it is just an unsanitary food stand serving cold dishes with a half boiled egg. (I got the special that looks like curry puke.) Now, the dish itself wasn't that bad. I liked the red sauce (whatever it was), but i hated the fact that it was cold. And as im writing this review, 1 hour later, Im having a lot of gassy farts lol. I really hope I dont get sick, me being a foreigner and the stand being unhygienic as is. I gave two stars because honestly, its not like I couldn't eat it, or it tasted that bad. Its just unsanitary and cold food, which is a breeding ground for food borne illnesses. I'll update if I get sick. If there's no update or edit, I managed to brave through the storm lol!

[Original reviews] Kari Ayam simply sensational. Breakfast Special is stunning! Outstanding Kari Kambing. Big chunk of juicy mutton half the size of your fist. Excellent curry spicing. Returned for second visit last night. Kari Kambing you can cut with a spoon! Deep, rich spicing. Also ordered Kari Ayam. Whole leg. Indescribably soft and tender. Different curry sauce to the Kambing but equally delicious and rich. Simply outstanding. [Update with edits, 05.25:] I've now eaten here 100+ times since ~2015, at many different times of the day, always excellent, sometimes sublime. Now back home in Kuala Lumpur after Covid-19 pandemic and Mansion Tea Stall is absolutely just as excellent as it ever was. Visited 5 times already in five days, including bringing friends (who loved it!) for Roti Banjir Special and Kari Kambing (tender, juicy, tasty, easily the best in KL - see latest photo). Communal style dining, often have great conversations with other customers, from musicians and artists to senior Muslim clerics.
